A Prayer for God's Power
1 Oh, that You would tear the heavens open, come down, that mountains shall shake before Your? –
2 as when fire burns twigs, as fire makes water boil – to make Your Name known to Your adversaries, so that nations tremble before You.
3 When You did awesome matters, which we did not expect, You came down, mountains did shake before You!
4 Since the beginning of the ages they have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any Elohim besides You, who acts for those who wait for Him.
5 You shall meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, who remembers You in Your ways. See, You were wroth when we sinned in them a long time. And should we be saved?
6 And all of us have become as one unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as soiled rags. And all of us fade like a leaf, and our crookednesses, like the wind, have taken us away.
7 And there is no one who calls on Your Name, who stirs himself up to take hold of You; for You have hidden Your face from us, and have consumed us because of our crookednesses.
8 And now, O יהוה, You are our Father. We are the clay, and You our potter. And we are all the work of Your hand.
9 Do not be wroth, O יהוה, nor remember crookedness forever. See, please look, all of us are Your people!
10 Your set-apart cities have become a wilderness, Tsiyon has become a wilderness, Yerushalayim a waste.
11 Our set-apart and comely House, where our fathers praised You, has been burned up with fire. And all that we treasured has become a ruin.
12 In view of all this, would You restrain Yourself, O יהוה? Would You keep silent and afflict us beyond measure? — Isaiah 64 | The Scriptures 1998 (ISR 1998) The Scriptures 1998 Copyright © 1998 Institute for Scripture Research. All Rights reserved. Psalms chapter 79
1 (A Psalm of Asaph.) O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
2 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
3 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.
4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.
5 How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
7 For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
8 O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.
9 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
10 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.
11 Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
12 And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
13 So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.

Monday, First Week of Advent
Liturgical Colour: Violet: B (2))
First Reading Isaiah 2:1-5 The Lord gathers all nations together into the eternal peace of God's kingdom.
The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
In the days to come the mountain of the Temple of the Lord shall tower above the mountains and be lifted higher than the hills. All the nations will stream to it, peoples without number will come to it; and they will say:‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Temple of the God of Jacob that he may teach us his ways so that we may walk in his paths; since the Law will go out from Zion, and the oracle of the Lord from Jerusalem.’
He will wield authority over the nations and adjudicate between many peoples; these will hammer their swords into ploughshares, their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift sword against nation, there will be no more training for war.
O House of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 121(122):1-2,4-5,6-9
R/ I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’ And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.
R/ I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord. For Israel’s law it is, there to praise the Lord’s name. There were set the thrones of judgement of the house of David.
R/ I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
For the peace of Jerusalem pray: ‘Peace be to your homes! May peace reign in your walls, in your palaces, peace!’
R/ I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
For love of my brethren and friends I say: ‘Peace upon you!’ For love of the house of the Lord I will ask for your good.
R/ I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
Gospel Acclamation cf. Psalm 79:4
Alleluia, alleluia! God of hosts, bring us back: let your face shine on us and we shall be saved. Alleluia!
Gospel Matthew 8:5-11 'I am not worthy to have you under my roof: give the word, and my servant will be healed'.
When Jesus went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him. ‘Sir,’ he said ‘my servant is lying at home paralysed, and in great pain.’ ‘I will come myself and cure him’ said Jesus. The centurion replied, ‘Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and my servant will be cured. For I am under authority myself, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man: Go, and he goes; to another: Come here, and he comes; to my servant: Do this, and he does it.’ When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, ‘I tell you solemnly, nowhere in Israel have I found faith like this. And I tell you that many will come from east and west to take their places with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob at the feast in the kingdom of heaven.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

(Readings for the memorial)
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Monday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading 2 Timothy 1:13-14,2:1-3 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me.
Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. You have been trusted to look after something precious; guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Accept the strength, dear son, that comes from the grace of Christ Jesus. You have heard everything that I teach in public: hand it on to reliable people so that they in turn may be able to teach others. Put up with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 18(19):8-11
R/ The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just. or R/ Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.
The law of the Lord is perfect, it revives the soul. The rule of the Lord is to be trusted, it gives wisdom to the simple.
R/ The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just. or R/ Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.
The precepts of the Lord are right, they gladden the heart. The command of the Lord is clear, it gives light to the eyes.
R/ The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just. or R/ Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.
The fear of the Lord is holy, abiding for ever. The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just.
R/ The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just. or R/ Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.
They are more to be desired than gold, than the purest of gold and sweeter are they than honey, than honey from the comb.
R/ The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just. or R/ Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.
Gospel Acclamation John 14:23
Alleluia, alleluia! If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him. Alleluia!
Gospel Matthew 25:14-30 You have been faithful in small things: come and join in your master's happiness.
Jesus spoke this parable to his disciples: ‘The kingdom of Heaven is like a man on his way abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one; each in proportion to his ability. Then he set out.
‘The man who had received the five talents promptly went and traded with them and made five more. The man who had received two made two more in the same way. But the man who had received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
‘Now a long time after, the master of those servants came back and went through his accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more. “Sir,” he said “you entrusted me with five talents; here are five more that I have made.” ‘His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master’s happiness.”
‘Next the man with the two talents came forward. “Sir,” he said “you entrusted me with two talents; here are two more that I have made.” His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master’s happiness.”
‘Last came forward the man who had the one talent. “Sir,” said he “I had heard you were a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered; so I was afraid, and I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have it back.” But his master answered him, “You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered? Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have recovered my capital with interest. So now, take the talent from him and give it to the man who has the five talents. For to everyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough; but from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away. As for this good-for-nothing servant, throw him out into the dark, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.”’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

I just found out a girl i follow is "lds" what is that? There is a latter day saint church in my town but are they mormans? Why do people have to be apart of a denomination? it just seems confusing and divisive, isn't there only one bible?
LDS = Latter Day Saints = Mormons.
Mormonism is a cult. Yes, there is only one Bible - the inspired word of God. This is also why Roman Catholicism is so wrong - we are not to add human teaching/"revelation" to Scripture. LDS breakdown:
The following from this link: The Mormon religion (Mormonism), whose followers are known as Mormons and Latter-day Saints (LDS), was founded less than two hundred years ago by a man named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ (Articles of Faith, p. 35) who told him that all churches and their creeds were an abomination (1 Nephi 13:28; Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith – History 1:18, 19). Joseph Smith then set out to "restore true Christianity" and claimed his church to be the “only true church on earth” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 670; 1 Nephi 14:10). The problem with Mormonism is that it contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Christians do not have a reason to believe that the Bible is untrue or inadequate. To truly believe in and trust God means to believe in His Word, and all Scripture is inspired by God, which means it comes from Him (2 Timothy 3:16).
Mormons believe that there are in fact four sources of divinely inspired words, not just one: 1) the Bible “as far as it is translated correctly” (8th Article of Faith). Which verses are considered incorrectly translated is not always made clear. 2) The Book of Mormon, which was “translated” by Smith and published in 1830. Smith claimed it is the “most correct book” on earth and that a person can get closer to God by following its precepts “than by any other book” (History of the Church 4:461). 3) Doctrine and Covenants, containing a collection of modern revelations regarding the “Church of Jesus Christ as it has been restored.” 4) The Pearl of Great Price, which is considered by Mormons to “clarify” doctrines and teachings that were lost from the Bible (Articles of Faith, p. 182–185) and adds its own information about the earth’s creation.
Mormons believe the following about God: He has not always been the Supreme Being of the universe (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321) but attained that status through righteous living and persistent effort (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345). They believe God the Father has a “body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s” (Doctrine and Covenants 130:22). Brigham Young taught that Adam actually was God and the father of Jesus Christ—although this teaching has been abandoned by modern Mormon leaders.
In contrast, Christians know this about God: there is only one true God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10; 44:6–8). He always has existed and always will exist (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17). He was not created but is the Creator (Genesis 1; Psalm 24:1; Isaiah 37:16). He is perfect, and no one else is equal to Him (Psalm 86:8; Isaiah 40:25). God the Father is not a man, nor was He ever (Numbers 23:19; 1 Samuel 15:29; Hosea 11:9). He is Spirit (John 4:24), and Spirit is not made of flesh and bone (Luke 24:39).
Mormons believe that there are different levels or kingdoms in the afterlife: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, the telestial kingdom, and outer darkness (Mormon Doctrine, p. 348). Where mankind will end up depends on what they believe and do in this life (2 Nephi 25:23; Articles of Faith, p.79).
In contrast, the Bible tells us that after death we go to heaven or hell based on whether or not we had faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. To be absent from our bodies means, as believers, we are with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6–8). Unbelievers are sent to hell or the place of the dead (Luke 16:22–23). When Jesus comes the second time, we will receive resurrected, glorified bodies (1 Corinthians 15:50–54). There will be a new heaven and new earth for believers (Revelation 21:1), and unbelievers will be thrown into an everlasting lake of fire (Revelation 20:11–15). There is no second chance for redemption after death (Hebrews 9:27).
Mormon leaders have taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary (Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115; Mormon Doctrine, p. 547). Mormons believe Jesus is a god, but that any human can also become a god (Doctrine and Covenants 132:20; Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345–354). Mormonism teaches that salvation can be earned by a combination of faith and good works (LDS Bible Dictionary, p. 697).
Contrary to this, Christians historically have taught that no one can achieve the status of God—only He is holy (1 Samuel 2:2). We can only be made holy in God’s sight through faith in Him (1 Corinthians 1:2). Jesus is the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16), is the only one ever to have lived a sinless life, and now has the highest place of honor in heaven (Hebrews 7:26). Jesus and God are one in essence, Jesus being the only man who existed before physical birth (John 1:1–8; 8:56). Jesus gave Himself to us as a sacrifice, God raised Him from the dead, and one day everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:6–11). Jesus tells us it is impossible to get to heaven by our own works and that only by faith in Him is it possible (Matthew 19:26). We all deserve eternal punishment for our sins, but God’s infinite love and grace have allowed us a way out. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Clearly, there is only one way to receive salvation and that is to know God and His Son, Jesus (John 17:3). Receiving salvation is not done by works but by faith (Romans 1:17; 3:28). We can receive this gift no matter who we are or what we have done (Romans 3:22). “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Although Mormons are usually friendly, loving, and kind people, they are deceived by a false religion that distorts the nature of God, the Person of Jesus Christ, and the means of salvation.
(Editor’s note: many of the references in our articles on Mormonism are Mormon publications, such as Mormon Doctrine, Articles of Faith, Doctrines of Salvation, History of the Church, Doctrine and Covenants, and so forth. Others are from the Book of Mormon itself, e.g., books such as 1 Nephi, 2 Nephi, and Alma.)

August 20, 2023
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Isaiah 56: 1, 6-7
God’s words in Isaiah convey an outreach to all people including, foreigners.
Psalm 67
The Psalmists shares the same inclusive message from God.
Romans 11: 13-15, 29-32
Paul demonstrates inclusivity as he writes to the Romans.
Matthew 15: 23-28
Jesus eventually choses an inclusive gesture.
Any one of us who knew our immigrant grandparents can tell stories of the hard times they faced when they emigrated to this nation.  Prejudice existed based on their nationality and culture, and often surfaced because of their religious beliefs.  Roman Catholics faced such problems in the 19th century.  People often find it difficult to accept differences in culture, food, and customs.  Some believe their way is a superior one and others may have fear replacement or scarcity of resources when claims for help are being addressed.  Many of us can attest to this reality when we look at the numbers of cultural churches that were established in our community. They assisted folks in their transition to this nation’s culture. Inclusivity and the embrace of the “other” is a human issue.  And our Scripture readings this weekend address the same thing.
Long before the birth of Christ, the ancient Prophet Isaiah realized that the “Lord would bring foreigners who will join themselves to the Lord.”  The religious leaders did expect the foreigners to abide by the Jewish laws and customs but the acceptance of the “other” into the community is remarkable.
In the Letter to the Romans, Paul appears to have already accepted the “others,” the Gentiles, into the Christian community.  At the same time Paul reaffirms Israel’s special place in the eyes of God. He writes, “For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.”
Perhaps Paul is aware of the story Matthew shares with us today when Jesus tells the Canaanite woman requesting his help, “I was sent to only to the lost sheep of Israel.”  But her persistence on behalf of her daughter eventually has Jesus saying to her, “O woman great is your faith” and her daughter was healed.
Let us turn to a recent book by Amy-Jill Levine, a Jewish scholar who teaches the New Testament.  Her credentials help us explore the relationship between Jesus, Jews, and non-Jews as we experience them in this Gospel.  Just as an aside, when one finishes Matthew’s Gospel, we find Jesus commissioning the disciples to go out to all the nations.  Matthew now expresses a more inclusive message.  This reality causes me to remember a statement in Luke.  Jesus, after being lost in the Temple, returns home and Luke tells us that “…Jesus increased in wisdom and in years.”  Perhaps this reality was at play in this Gospel.  But during his ministry it seems Jesus is coming to grips with his ministry that is reaching more people and is expanding his horizons.
Levine in her book, “The Difficult Words of Jesus” shares that, “…thinking the Messianic age was beginning they (Jesus’ apostles) would not have the time to get to the Gentiles if they were to go to their own people first.” (79)  But Jesus could also look back into the Jew’s sacred scriptures and find examples of the prophets assisting non-Jews.
But it is the woman, who in my mind, is a deciding factor in this story.  She understands the differences between the two cultures, and even after what looks like an insult, she presses on.  Levine writes, “She is the model for anyone, seeking aid for a child, who is told: you don’t have the right papers; you don’t have insurance; you don’t have money.” (96)
“Woman great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”  Jesus is a model for all of us as he steps outside his comfort zone and realizes the goodness and faith of the “other.”  “He grew in age and wisdom.”  May this Gospel story enlighten us to see the faith, the goodness, and the beauty in those so many call the “others.”
Levine writes, “…Matthew recognizes that both Jewish and Gentile identities are important, and it gives us the model of not just recognizing, but even celebrating various forms of difference in our own settings.” (98)
Wouldn’t you love to meet this courageous fearless women who serves as a model for all of us?

please pray im strong enough to make it through the night
Thank you for requesting a prayer, beloved—that to me shows an immense amount of strength and gives me hope that you desire life, even if you can't see that right now. I can't hope to understand your specific pain, but I know what it is to not believe the morning will come. I encourage you to reach out to a helpline/medical professional if you're thinking about harming yourself—it's saved me many times. Crisis Text Line is a great resource in the US/UK/Canada/Ireland, and many countries have suicide hotlines. Prayers are world-changing, and action, too, is a kind of prayer. I always say we should believe in miracles, but not depend on them. Or perhaps we can say sometimes we get up and accomplish the miracle ourselves.
If I'm getting the wrong idea and you're experiencing another kind of pain, I wish you strength through whatever illness or danger you're going through, and pray for the morning to find you safe.
Some verses that have kept me company on dark nights:
[Eliljah] went a day's journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19:4-8)
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)
I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. (Psalm 118:17)
I have set before you life and death . . . Now choose life. (Deuteronomy 30:19)
. . . because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death (Luke 1:78-79)
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. (Romans 13:12)
all of Psalm 102
Perhaps, like Elijah, you will rest and eat and drink, and in time you will be ready to trust in the morning. The journey may be too much for you right now, but it will be there for you when you are ready. You just have to keep yourself alive, even in the wilderness.

15 & 28?
15. Favorite Bible verse
oh it’s SO hard to pick. here’s one of them!!
“Let the groaning of the imprisoned come in before you; in accord with the greatness of your arm preserve those doomed to die.” (Psalm 79:11)
28. Do you wear a scapular?
I do not! My sister used to wear one (she lost it) and I wanted to for a while but I determined I would need to do more research on it before making that call since I didn’t know a lot, and then I got kind of swept up in my discernment :D

John 11:25 Jesus said to [Martha], “I am the resurrection and the life.”
Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.
1 Corinthians 15:58 …Stand firm. Let nothing move you…
1 Corinthians 1:18 The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing…
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
May you receive all that God is prepared to give you, every place where you set your foot on the land He leads you into, since no power or principality will be able to stand up against you, for the Lord is with you and will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1
May you be strong and very courageous, careful to keep the Word in your mouth and in your heart, meditating on it day and night, quick to respond in love to the Father's bidding, turning not from Him to the left or to the right, that you may be prosperous in the Spirit and successful in His work, never again terrified by the enemy or discouraged by circumstances. Joshua 1
May you help each other fight the good fight of faith that all may come to the maturity of the fullness of the knowledge of the Lord. Joshua 1
May you know that the enemy's heart has melted and his courage has failed because of what has been done for you by God Who is the Lord in heaven above and on the earth below. Joshua 2
May you make every effort to enter through the narrow door because many will try to enter and will not be able to. Luke 13
May you understand that relationship with God is more than acquaintance, and acceptance by God is based on the intent of your heart rather than the deeds of your hands. Luke 13
May you walk in God's wisdom and perseverance toward the critics of God, while showing mercy and compassion towards the children of the kingdom. Luke 14
My child, lift Me up. I am in your hands to declare or to stifle, to promote or to hide. Show My beauty, My dear one, do not cover it before others. Let My light shine forth in your life and let My ways decide your actions. Do not flinch from stares, for there are many gazing at you who are hungry to see what a life lived for Me looks like. They are undecided, caught between what they have seen in the world, and what they have heard of Me, but never seen. Walk in obedience to My Spirit, My love, and let them feast their eyes on the splendor that I will show them; not of you, but of the One Whom you love enough to follow in humble trust.
May God's mercy come quickly to meet you when you are in desperate need. Psalm 79
May God, Who is your Savior, help you for the glory of His name, delivering you and forgiving your sin for His name's sake. Psalm 79
May God make known before your eyes and among the powers and principalities that ask, “Where is your God?” that He avenges the out-poured blood of His servants. Psalm 79
May the groans of the prisoners come before God, and by the strength of His arm may He preserve those condemned to die. Psalm 79
May God pay back seven times into the laps of those who hurl reproach at Him, for then we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture will praise You forever and recount Your praise to all generations. Psalm 79
May you be cautious in friendship, as the righteous are, for the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26

God Remembers His People
Psalm 79:1-13
1. O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heavens, the flesh of thy saints unto the beast of the earth.
3. Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.
4. We are become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them are round about us.
5. How long, Lord? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6. Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
7. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
8. O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedly prevent us: for we are brought very low.
9. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
10. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.
11. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
12. And render into our neighbors sevenfold into their bossom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
13. So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.

6th March >> Mass Readings (USA)
Monday, Second Week of Lent
(Liturgical Colour: Violet: Year A(1))
First Reading Daniel 9:4b-10 We have sinned, been wicked and done evil.
“Lord, great and awesome God, you who keep your merciful covenant toward those who love you and observe your commandments! We have sinned, been wicked and done evil; we have rebelled and departed from your commandments and your laws. We have not obeyed your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land. Justice, O Lord, is on your side; we are shamefaced even to this day: we, the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel, near and far, in all the countries to which you have scattered them because of their treachery toward you. O LORD, we are shamefaced, like our kings, our princes, and our fathers, for having sinned against you. But yours, O Lord, our God, are compassion and forgiveness! Yet we rebelled against you and paid no heed to your command, O LORD, our God, to live by the law you gave us through your servants the prophets.”
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 79:8, 9, 11 and 13
R/ Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins.
Remember not against us the iniquities of the past; may your compassion quickly come to us, for we are brought very low.
R/ Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins.
Help us, O God our savior, because of the glory of your name; Deliver us and pardon our sins for your name’s sake.
R/ Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins.
Let the prisoners’ sighing come before you; with your great power free those doomed to death. Then we, your people and the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; through all generations we will declare your praise.
R/ Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins.
Gospel Acclamation cf. John 6:63c, 68c
Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life; you have the words of everlasting life.
Gospel Luke 6:36-38 Forgive and you will be forgiven.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
“Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
