The first snow fell on Fort Featherly last night, and Pickerel and her family knew what it was.

“Well, it’s back. Ugh. Where’d I put my boots?”

But this is the first winter for the Ameraucanas, the Creves and the Pyncheons.

“WTF????!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“What’s all this white stuff?”

“Nope! Nope! Nope! Nope!”

The flock of Featherly spent much of their time inside the Bunk today and made a number of verbal complaints to the Management about the outdoor accommodations.

Bumble Chickskin, the Hen Who Crows.

It has done nothing but bucket rain for four days, and in today’s respite Bumble and the Fort Featherly Flock made haste to dig worms. Success was had.

The Infiltrator. Prinny is now sleeping on the main perch in the Bunk, much to the continued disgruntlement of the hens who were there first. Prinny, bless her, is unfazed. The Ameraucanas have crammed themselves on the left in the photo and the Original Gals are on the right, cliques preserved. (Bumble is displaying her best floof to the camera.)

Meanwhile Morgaine and the Pyncheons have taken up sleeping quarters just below. Another perch is going up in the Bunk soon. I am beyond thrilled that the feathered friends are all putting themselves into the Bunk at night to sleep, temps here are dropping into the teens next week! The flock will be high, dry and much warmer in the Bunkhouse.
