Pickerel, 6 years old.    Very Good Hen.   She has been actively trying to integrate her family into the new Ameraucana group.

The first snow fell on Fort Featherly last night, and Pickerel and her family knew what it was.
Tumblr media
“Well, it’s back. Ugh. Where’d I put my boots?”
But this is the first winter for the Ameraucanas, the Creves and the Pyncheons.
Tumblr media
“WTF????!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Tumblr media
“What’s all this white stuff?”
Tumblr media
“Nope! Nope! Nope! Nope!”
Tumblr media
The flock of Featherly spent much of their time inside the Bunk today and made a number of verbal complaints to the Management about the outdoor accommodations.

The minute the rains let up the bantams are out and about, inspecting, foraging and critiquing everything.

The moment the rains start up...

“Everybiddy back to the Beak Bunk! Last one in is a wet hen!”

Bumble Chickskin, the Hen Who Crows.
It has done nothing but bucket rain for four days, and in today’s respite Bumble and the Fort Featherly Flock made haste to dig worms. Success was had.

The Infiltrator. Prinny is now sleeping on the main perch in the Bunk, much to the continued disgruntlement of the hens who were there first. Prinny, bless her, is unfazed. The Ameraucanas have crammed themselves on the left in the photo and the Original Gals are on the right, cliques preserved. (Bumble is displaying her best floof to the camera.)

Meanwhile Morgaine and the Pyncheons have taken up sleeping quarters just below. Another perch is going up in the Bunk soon. I am beyond thrilled that the feathered friends are all putting themselves into the Bunk at night to sleep, temps here are dropping into the teens next week! The flock will be high, dry and much warmer in the Bunkhouse.

Ku, feeling a bit nervous in the vicinity of Bumble Chickskin the Magnificent.
Of course, Ku is generally a bit nervous no matter what is happening. She lacks a bit in self confidence. (She is very sweet, though.)

I now present to you the Bumble Strut.
Tumblr media
This little lady OWNS this chicken coop. When she steps out, everyone else steps aside. Bumble Chickskin is the Hen Who Crows. Small in stature, but HUGE in attitude! Her moms raised her to be confident, and it shows.

Co-habitation! The Ameraucana children are finally going into the Beak Bunk to sleep at night, joining (sort of) the original Beak Babes. The younger Ameraucanas are on the lower shelf. Yep, that is Toad hiding under CinderFella. What a guy!

Pick would like the young bantams to come to her house, but they are still unsure.
Tumblr media
They are making progress, however!
