Thank you for asking @hanktalkin (og post)
So, I generally head canon that Engineer is about 10 or so years older than Scout is, which is fine because in canon that would make Engineer 37 when Scout is 27. However, thinking about them when they are a bit younger I think introduces some goofiness especially when adding a Soulmate AU to the mix.
I was thinking about the particular set up where when you turn 16, you are able to write on your arm and whatever you write shows up on your soulmate's arm. So you have Scout; a 16 year old sophomore/junior in high school, and Engineer; a 26 year old Engineering major most likely working on his first (of many) PhD.
Engineer, who hasn't gotten any response from his soulmate in a decade, being shocked when one day writing starts showing up on his arm. Or maybe, because he hasn't gotten a response in a decade, he just assumed he didn't have a soulmate so he'd been writing Engineering notes on his own arm one day to Scout's own surprise.
What I'm saying is that Scout finds out that his soulmate is really smart like really fast, so he of course uses this to his advantage. I'm just imagining Scout writing Engie notes during exams. Asking him how to solve radicals, or how to find x, or what the the quadratic formula is and??? Engineer in the middle of a high level physics lecture having to show his work on how to multiply "4 x 25" because Scout is clueless and doesn't know how and is failing his math class for the 3rd time.
Just imagining Engie's classmates, who he probably told years before that he did not have a soulmate, looking at his arm seeing basic level math and not believing him when he swears it's for his soulmate. Scout who is suddenly passing all his math tests having to scrub his arm clean every morning because Engineer decided to stay up all night working on an invention so he just has foreign equations scrawled over him (Engineer not being able to break the habit of using his skin for notes even though he now has a soulmate who can see them).
Also for a bit of angst: I can see a situation where Engineer maybe messes something up due to Scout writing something in a poor place at a poor time. Engineer deciding his life was better before Scout/having a soulmate is too much of a distraction so he cuts off his arm and attaches the gunslinger - sufficiently severing his connection to Scout. Him quickly regretting it once its done (not realizing that Scout had grown so much on him), but not being able to undo it just being sad over the fact that he will never meet his soulmate now (+ Scout now having a faint scar on his arm/seeing how Engineer stops responding/this boy got more abandonment issues now than he did before).
Then fast forward a decade when they both just happen to work for Mann Co. and one of them (or someone else entirely) piecing it together (cue more angst especially if they were getting close before they realized it and then Scout getting mad at him for abandoning him a decade before.
Anyway yeah that was the idea

Feeling goofy + poetic 😨
Tumblr media
I walk with my XX year old self around the garden. He wishes he could grow wings and fly. He wishes he could walk to the shops by himself at night. I tell him I walk at night to buy ice cream
I draw with my XX year old self. He says he likes Van Gogh. He sings the song he made up about the Starry Night painting, and I read him poems I made about my own
I sit in the lounge with my XX year old self. He practices his spellings for the test each week. He always gets 10/10 and cries when he doesn't, I tell him I cried from happiness when I got my imperfect results
I learn myths with my XX year old self. He tells me how mummification works, I tell him about Ishtar's potential links to Aphrodite. He tells me he likes hanging out with boys, I tell him I am one
I do equations with my XX year old self. He does the higher level math group's homework as a hobby, I taught my higher set classmates how to do quadratic equations
I watch the other people walk by with my XX year old self. He explains how his friends play a game where they avoid him for the whole of break time, I explain that my old friends didn't talk to me for months at a time when we were stuck at home
I breathe slowly with my XX year old self. He stays quiet about how much his teacher screams at their class and his mistakes, about how the maths teacher is weird, rude and picks favourites. I stay quiet about how lucky he is not to be one of those favourites
I play Minecraft with my XX year old self. He sets up a Herobrine shrine and asks if I can walk around caves with the sound turned on. I jump out of my skin everytime I'm attacked while mining
I put on makeup with my XX year old self. He can't understand why he can never get it to look right. I contour my nose and add light mascara above my lip
I look at my XX year old self from a distance. He cries to teachers about the entire grade of people bullying him. I cried and spoke with a teacher about my parents not accepting who I am
I waltz with my XX year old self. He says he's learning so he can dress up and dance with a beautiful woman some day. I tell him I've got several 3 piece suits and practice singing in the kitchen
I read with my XX year old self. He spends his free time analysing Jekyll and Hyde, listening to the Jekyll and Hyde musical and rating Jekyll and Hyde adaptations. I show him I'm reading the Sherlock Holmes books, underlining anything interesting and watching adaptations every day
I check test results with my XX year old self. He passed and is excited about his future, he tells me he doesn't want to feel so much. I passed and am neutral about my future, I tell him feeling is better than having nothing at all
I'm still each age I've ever been, and I achieve all their dreams just by living

It is the weekend already! This first week went by fast. Over the weekend, I will probably not post too much if I do at all. I want to spend time with Julien since he will be flying out for university on Tuesday with my parents. He moves in later that day. I will be staying with a friend from dance and her family. She's homeschooled too and also in Girl Scouts with me! Plus, her mom is fun even though my friend gets embarrassed by her sometimes. I am sad I won't get to be with Julien when he moves in, but I have ballet, and he doesn't want me to have to miss classes.
Tasks Completed:
Geometry - Review of multiplying binomials and solving quadratic equations + practice
Lit and Comp II - Vocabulary quiz + read about literary analysis and developing a thesis + writing quiz + read about The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

What I’m Grateful for Today:
Being able to stay with my friend next week when my mom and dad take Julien to move in at university.
Quote of the Day:
The main thing to do is pay attention. Pay close attention to everything, notice what no one else notices. Then you’ll know what no one else knows, and that’s always useful.

Is learning only formulas of QUADRATIC EQUATIONS enough?
Remember solving the questions from polynomials? No? Here’s an example so that you can understand Quadratic equations.
2x2+3x+1
Tumblr media
Still not sure about the concepts from polynomials? Take a test of polynomials in class 9 on the SeekoG app so that you can save time by understanding Quadratic equations better and faster.
Now that you are confident about polynomials, do you know that it is very much related to Quadratic equations? But how?
Here’s how – Try Equating a quadratic expression to a constant and this is how you get a quadratic equation. For example- the above-given expression has been converted to an equation.
2x2+3x+1= 0
Other than this do you know the points that are quite important in these equations?
Let’s take   px2+qx+r=0   as an example.
Here are some key points that need to be remembered by all of you:
p and q are the coefficients of x
In a quadratic equation, the value of p should not be equal to 0.
The roots of a quadratic equation are the only value of x that could satisfy the equation.
Not many points to remember. This chapter is quite easy, right? Actually, this is just a small drop from the sea of quadratic equations. You now know about roots but what about the value of roots? How will you find it? Is there some specific formula for finding these?
Well, there is a formula to find the roots of the equation. But other than the method that involves a formula, there is another method as well. So, what are these methods? Now this should be answered by you. Take the test & use the methods you know to be ready for your class 10 Maths Quadratic Equations!
It's great to know about quadratic equations but won't it be excellent to know about the Cartesian plane? Click to read more.

A guide to balancing school life and extracurricular activities
Are you struggling to find the perfect balance between school and your favorite extracurricular activities? Fear not! This creative guide will provide you with practical tips, hilarious anecdotes, and a dash of humor to help you navigate the chaotic dance between homework and hobbies.
Check out: Doubtconnect, an AI-powered doubt-solving buddy!
Ah, the eternal struggle of being a student. Classes, assignments, exams, and a mountain of homework seem to consume your every waking moment. But wait, there’s more! Extracurricular activities come knocking at your door, tempting you with their allure and promising unforgettable experiences. How can you possibly find the balance between the demands of school and the pursuit of your passions? Fear not, my friend! This guide is here to show you the way, with a sprinkle of humor to keep you entertained along the journey.
Section 1: Embrace the Chaos
Life is messy, just like that squished sandwich at the bottom of your backpack. But hey, chaos can be fun! Embrace the whirlwind of school life and extracurricular activities with open arms. Here’s how:
Find your inner Zen: Take a deep breath and repeat after me, “I am the master of my schedule.” Remember, you’re in control, even if it feels like your calendar is plotting against you.
Prioritize like a pro: Make a to-do list and rank your tasks by importance. Separate the must-dos from the nice-to-dos, and tackle them accordingly. It’s like organizing your closet but with less lint and more quadratic equations.
Section 2: Time Management Magic
The key to balancing school life and extracurricular activities is mastering the art of time management. Prepare to don your time wizard cape and cast these spells:
Create a schedule: Use a planner or a digital calendar to map out your commitments. Assign specific time slots for studying, attending classes, and participating in your extracurricular activities. Be sure to leave room for breaks, snacks, and the occasional dance party.
Make the most of downtime: Waiting for your piano lesson to start? Whip out your flashcards and review for that upcoming history test. Utilize those idle minutes wisely, and you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish.
Section 3: The Power of Multitasking (or Not)
Ah, multitasking — the mythical skill we all aspire to possess. But does it make us more efficient, or does it just leave us with half-finished projects and a lingering sense of confusion? Let’s find out:
The multitasking trap: While it may seem like a good idea to write an essay while attending soccer practice, it’s important to focus on one task at a time. Give each activity the attention it deserves, and you’ll avoid turning your essay into a dramatic love letter to your soccer ball.
Transition like a pro: When switching between school and extracurricular activities, take a moment to clear your mind and mentally prepare for the shift. Leave your calculus woes behind and embrace the joy of rehearsing with your improv troupe.
10 common doubts students have about academics and how to clear them
Section 4: Communicate, Collaborate, Conquer
Just like a superhero needs their trusty sidekick, you too can benefit from a strong support system. Here’s
how to gather your league of extraordinary friends:
Talk to your teachers: Don’t be afraid to have an open conversation with your teachers about your extracurricular commitments. They might be more understanding than you think and could offer valuable advice or flexibility.
Enlist the help of friends: Team up with fellow students who share your interests and commitments. Together, you can conquer challenging assignments, swap study notes, and even carpool to extracurricular activities. It’s like forming your own Avengers squad but with textbooks instead of superpowers.
Wrap-up Section: Find Your Rhythm and Rock On!
Congratulations, my friend! You’ve made it through this guide, armed with the knowledge and strategies to conquer the chaotic dance between school life and extracurricular activities. Remember, finding the perfect balance is a journey, and you may stumble along the way. But fear not, for even the best dancers trip on their own feet sometimes. So keep practicing, stay organized, and embrace the beautiful chaos of student life!
