Jharkhand govt tapping our phones: Babulal | Ranchi News - Net4News
Tumblr media
Ranchi: BJP leader Babulal Marandi on Saturday stirred a hornet’s nest by accusing the Hemant Soren government of tapping the phones of his party colleagues illegally but it was met with a vehement denial from the ruling parties in the state. Marandi’s allegations, which were without any substantive evidence, came at a time when his own party government at the Centre is charged with using the Israeli spyware Pegasus to illegally snoop on telephones of several people in the country. Talking to TOI over the phone, Marandi said, “I have been hearing that of late the ruling dispensation has increased its surveillance of big and small workers of BJP in the state out of political vendetta. Many who are connected with me have expressed fear about it saying how the government is using phone tapping as a tool to track their whereabouts and activities. “Officials working at the direction of the government on such illegal activities must always remember that no government is in power for eternity. They must also take lessons from history that anyone doing such illegal acts will have to pay sooner or later,” the former chief minister warned. While Marandi did not provide any proof to back his claims, he, however, said he will bring it out at the right time. In the past, former minister Saryu Rai, who was part of Raghubar Das cabinet in the previous BJP regime, had accused his own government (read chief minister Rabhubar Das) of surveillance using the special branch of police. Denying Marandi's charge, JMM central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharjee asked him to file a complaint before a competent authority if he has proof of his allegations. "Babulal ji must also reveal the names of all those whose phones are being tapped if he has the information. He must also complain before a competent authority on this issue rather than just making baseless allegations. The reality is that all BJP leaders are today terrified because of their wrongdoings by their past governments. BJP is only putting Babulalji on the front to rake up non-issues," Bhattacharjee said. Marandi, however, said his brand of politics has always been based on issues and maintained that any government resorting to illegal surveillance of politicians is bad in democracy. Citing an example of surveillance in the early 2000s when he was the CM, Marandi said, “Once I learnt that some MLAs were huddling in Tamar for a secret meeting. A senior official of the state police then suggested to me that he secretly puts them under detention and keep constant vigil over them to prevent any untoward incident. But I had strongly rejected the idea as I believe that politicians must never be kept under any kind of such surveillance, irrespective of which government is in power. I am okay if the police keep criminals and Naxals on their radar.” He, however, didn’t comment on the Pegasus row which broke last month. In the past, Marandi had dubbed the controversy as an attempt by anti-BJP and anti-Modi camp’s to defame the country and the prime minister. Meanwhile, Congress advised Marandi to question their leader (Modi) on the surveillance rather than make accusations against the state government. Party spokesperson Alok Dubey said, “Babulal ji doesn’t have to be wary about the JMM-Congress-RJD government in this state as it is for the people and by the people. Rather than levelling baseless allegations, he along with the state BJP unit must question Modi ji if and why his government resorted to illegal surveillance using the Israeli software. Even the Supreme Court has recently expressed concern over it and stated that a detailed probe must be done if the reports of the Pegasus Project were true.” Source link Read the full article

Jamshedpur: The LGBT community in Kolhan division has urged the state government to consider them for the EWS (economically weaker section) monthly pension scheme since they are in dire straits financially in view of the pandemic. Amarjeet Singh, secretary of a transgenders’ outfit named Utthan here, said, “Transgenders earn their livelihood mostly by begging on trains and by performing at auspicious occasions like marriage, for example. But now with passenger trains’ not operating and weddings being postponed/cancelled because of the pandemic, there isn’t much to do to earn money. Now, even if people are people are getting married, they are doing it on a small-scale and we often don’t even get to know about them.” There are around 200 transgenders across the three districts in Kolhan division who are looking for help from the government, he added. The outfit has also requested for a permanent house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the transgenders, who are presently living in rented homes in the slums. “A pension scheme and a house under the awas yojana would give us a decent life and the community will feel empowered,” Singh said. He, however, expressed his gratitude to the respective administrative officials in the three districts for helping them in getting the Covid vaccine shot. “In Jamshedpur, the DC (Suraj Kumar) organised a vaccination camp exclusively for us last month,” Singh said. Covid takes charm out of Eid, drives faithful indoors | Ranchi News - Net4News
Tumblr media
Ranchi: Muslims across Jharkhand will offer their prayers indoors on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha on Wednesday, Doranda Jama Masjid’s imam Maulana Syed Shah Alcama Sibli said on Monday. “We have sat down with all the stakeholders, including religious leaders, heads of different mosques and some prominent people from our community, and we have decided that everyone, barring those who stay in mosques and the heads, will offer namaz within the confines of their homes as congregations during a pandemic are not recommended,” Sibli said. He added, “We have communicated the decision to all our mosques across the state to make sure that Eid-ul-Adha celebrations do not become a threat to public health.” The chief of Imarat-e-shariah (Ranchi chapter), Mufti Mohhamed Anwar Qasmi, said, “We had issued a directive to all the mosques in Hindi as well as in Urdu during Eid, asking the devotees to refrain from offering namaz in groups, avoid hugs and handshakes because of the pandemic. A similar protocol will be followed for Bakrid.” He added, “The festival commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim who was ready to sacrifice his first born on God’s command and later, sacrificed a sheep as per the almighty’s instructions. So people should also try to sacrifice congregations amid such tough times.” Even the usual hustle and bustle was missing from the Bakrid market in Ranchi on Monday with traders complaining of sales being down this year. Manish Singh, who sells goats, said, “I have been feeding Kallu Dada (a goat which is priced at Rs 1,10,000) for more than four months to fetch a good amount this Bakrid but no buyer has approached me yet. Earlier, there used to be an auction for such goats. Today, only a few have approached me for cattle.” Source link Read the full article

Jharkhand introduces 5 mobile RT-PCR testing vans | Ranchi News - Net4News
Tumblr media
Ranchi: The Jharkhand Rural Health Mission in association with the Delhi-based JITM Skills Pvt Ltd launched five mobile RT-PCR test laboratories in the state on Saturday. Additional chief secretary (health0 Arun Kumar Singh flagged off the mobile laboratories which will be deployed in five districts — Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Palamu and Hazaribag – since the positivity rate is higher or the population density is more in those areas. The mobile laboratories, approved by ICMR and the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories, have a capacity to test 1,000-1,500 samples per day. The mobile labs would cover an area within 35km radius of the district headquarters and also test samples collected from far-off areas of the five districts. Singh said that till March 14 last year, there was no facility to conduct Covid-19 tests in the state but with concerted efforts almost every district is now equipped with an RT-PCR or TrueNat testing facility. “We have conducted tests on 1.06 crore samples till July 16, of which 37.42 lakh tests were conducted on RT-PCR while 57.23 lakh samples were tested on Rapid Antigen Test kits,” he added. National health mission’s director Uma Shankar Singh said that the state has adopted a five-pronged strategy of testing, tracking, isolating, treatment and vaccination for containment of Covid. “The mobile laboratory would further augment the state’s capacity to test more samples. As of now, the government has eight RT-PCR laboratories and effort is being made to equip the remaining 16 districts with similar testing facilities,” he said. Source link Read the full article

Ramesh takes oath as 10th guv; lays stress on developing state | Ranchi News - Net4News
Tumblr media
Ranchi: Ramesh Bias took oath as the 10th governor of Jharkhand in Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. He was administered the oath of office by Jharkhand high court’s chief justice Ravi Ranjan. The ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan’s Birsa Mandap. As many as 150 guests attended the event including around 50 family members and relatives of the new governor. “Keeping the Covid-19 situation in mind, the guest list was pruned from last time,” a senior Raj Bhawan official said requesting anonymity. Chief minister Hemant Soren, the ministers of his cabinet and senior bureaucrats of the state attended the ceremony. Welcoming Bias into the office, Soren said: “I sincerely hope that we will get his guidance in steering the state into its path of development.” Speaking to journalists after taking oath, Bias said his primary focus will be ensuring the development of Jharkhand. “I will work along with the chief minister and if necessary, will seek all help from the Centre in ensuring that Jharkhand remains on the path of development,” he said. Bias also said that he has invited Soren for a detailed discussion about the state. Congratulatory messages poured in from all quarters for Bias after he assumed office. Former chief minister Raghubar Das, in a written statement, congratulated Bias on his appointment. “During your tenure, the interests of the institutions will be preserved and upheld, law and order will be restored and those who are engaged in unfair practices will be held accountable,” Das said in a statement. The BJP, however, criticised the incumbent government for not inviting two former chief ministers at the swearing-in ceremony. “The JMM-led coalition government demonstrated a lowly mindset by not inviting Raghubar Das and Babulal Marandi, the two former CMs of the state. Apart from being the first CM of Jharkhand, Babulal Ji is also the leader of BJP’s legislative party. An inquiry should be initiated against the officials of the state cabinet coordination department and action should be taken,” BJP’s state general secretary Aditya Sahu said. 71% health workers in J’khand fully vaccinated in last 6 mnths | Ranchi News - Net4News
Tumblr media
Ranchi: As nationwide vaccination drive against Covid-19 is set to complete six months on Friday, the state government looks back on the many highs and lows, including overcoming vaccine hesitancy to facing supply gaps in doses, during the first ever adult immunization drive. Talking to TOI, the nodal officer for vaccination drive in Jharkhand, Dr Ajit Prasad, said, “It has been a challenging job as we increased the number of sessions sites from a few dozen to over 3,000 session sites to operate daily. Apart from that, we got the much needed boost in our coverage by extending the drive to panchayat-level and special weekend drives which saw around one lakh people being vaccinated in a single day.” Asked about the challenges, Dr Prasad said: “Initially we faced vaccine hesitancy, however, IEC, door to door survey as well as awareness programs helped us in overcoming that and now we end up exhausting our doses before even it is replenished.” As per health department records, Jharkhand has been able to completely inoculate around 13,50,465 beneficiaries, out of around 2.47 crore targeted beneficiaries. A total of 64,89,159 have received their first doses till July 13. Out of the targeted 2,20,955 health workers, 1,58,895 have been administered both the doses, ensuring 71% coverage while 207418 have received their first shot, followed by other frontline staff with 56%. Of 3,98,051, 2,25,397 have received both doses while 362547 have received first dose. The coverage rate for senior citizens stood at 13.32%, as 4,30,709, out of 32,31,564, have received both doses while 14,07,788 have received their first jab. Those in the 45-59 age group 4,32,831 people receiving their both doses while 17,75,599 received their first jab, the coverage being 8.39%. Even though youngsters have been turning out in large numbers to take the jab the coverage among the 18+ category with complete inoculation remains lowest with a mere 0.65 % receiving their both the doses. Out of 1,57,34,635 beneficiaries, only 1, 02,643 have received both doses while 2735807 have received first dose. On being asked about the low coverage among the 18+ category, Dr Prasad said that the disruptions in supply chain of vaccine doses as well as the increased period for administering Covishield are to be blamed. “It is not that we aren’t vaccinating the younger population on a priority basis but their vaccination started late and the duration between both the doses of Covishiled is a minimum of 84 days. In next three months, we will be able to complete inoculation of a bigger chunk in that category too,” said Prasad. Source link Read the full article

NHRC sends notice to Centre, state on food survey findings | Ranchi News - Net4News
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ranchi: Taking note of media reports highlighting deprivation of the eligible beneficiaries under Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) from supplementary nutrition during the lockdown period, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Centre and state government. The survey was conducted by Right to Food campaign, Jharkhand, in 159 blocks of the state covering 8,818 beneficiaries (children from 6 months to 6 years, pregnant and lactating mothers) in 2,037 Anganwadi centres. The objective of the survey, conducted in the last week of June, was to find the status of distribution of supplementary nutrition under ICDS, particularly during the Covid-19 induced lockdown period. The report was released on July 5 in Ranchi before a panel that also attended a public hearing. The hearing confirmed findings of the report that as many as 45% beneficiaries in the age group of 3 to 6 years (entitled for hot cooked meal) and 68% of beneficiaries comprising children of 6 months to 3 years, pregnant and lactating women (entitled for take home ration THR) were deprived of their legal entitlement. The commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of the Right to Food, which is one of the basic human rights, which the state is duty bound to protect. Accordingly, it has issued a notice to the chief secretary, Jharkhand government and the secretary, Union ministry of women and child development, calling for a detailed report in the matter within six weeks. The commission in a press statement issued on Tuesday also pointed that reportedly in Jharkhand, every second child is stunted or underweight and every third child is affected by stunting, and around 70% children are anaemic according to the data of the National Family Health Survey. Convener RTF, Jharkhand, Asharfi Nand Prasad, said the governments are expected to take the issue seriously after NHRC taking cognizance of the matter. “We have approached the government also with the findings and flagged the issue as violation of National Food Security Act,” he said. Prasad added that since the matter of ICDS is included in sections 4 and 5 of the NFSA, the Centre is equally responsible as the state government. “The Centre and state are authorised to release the funds and jointly monitor, implement the NFSA. So in case of violation, both should be held accountable, which the NHRC has take note of,” he said. Source link Read the full article
