I think they should make a Grand Theft Auto set in New Orleans. Not least because a lot of the men look and carry themselves like the main characters the GTA franchise often creates, but also because what's not to love about guns, jazz and buildings in severe disrepair? The flight here was a little dystopian - an old BA plane with no wifi and no working outlets near my seat. 10 hours of unfettered rumination punctures by TM, and a potential social abattoir at my eventual destination, wondering what the hell I got myself into. I feel like a hero when we taxi to Louis Armstrong airport. There is no clear theme for the people on my flight - every imaginable type. Two college age boys discuss, loudly, the music of Linkin Park. A chic woman. Two wedding guests, one of them I recognise from Raya in 2016. The air outside the airport is thick and humid, the same shock to the system as arriving in Miami in December. The hotel is nice and it would later seem that everybody has a beautiful room for a low price Hungry and wired, I bike to Bacchanal, first through a district seemingly built on bachelor parties and spring breakers, then through a beat up and barren industrial stretch parallel to the Mississippi River. I can't believe I'm biking along the goddamn Mississippi River to a bar where, if I'm lucky, I'll see maybe 3 people I know out of 50 There's something about a wedding in a foreign city that makes all the pickiness, in terms of the company you keep, fade quickly. Desperate times call for desperate rapports. I see F has shaved an ornate pattern into his dead, dyed parts of it. When I talk to him I am unable to hold the fact he's extremely tight with the Kardashians in my mind at the same time as his being so thoughtful about art. I see M and if I were anywhere else I would keep my distance, but I am here and I hug him gratefully. E shows up with his usual disgruntled tone accompanied by his weirdly reassuring touch, but that touch does not outweigh that toned. He is carrying a bucket of wine. I meet H's father, and remember H told me two years ago how much he looks like Jeffrey Epstein. This is, in fact, incorrect. I smoke cigarettes in a daze and get my first taste of how friendly people are in the South, and not friendly in a New York "I am robotically charming because I need your 35% tip" way. It's real and it's what the rest of America could only dream of being After Bacchanal I surpass rabid hunger to a higher plane where I'll gladly be introduced to anybody and listen to their life story. We hit a dive bar with a cigarette vending machine that demands exact change. I go against my own credo and drink a Coca Cola, for the sugar. Later E will watch me eat my first gumbo, squeeze hot sauce into it. By midnight, aka 6am in my body, I am too beat to negotiate going home with him, and fall asleep to episode 7 of Sally4Ever

“Independently of Julian being the man I live with,” Davis says, “I think he’s a great actor. So I knew that he’d bring a good, solid, grounded thing to the show. It was actually quite nice having someone who really knew you around, when you’d been through this massive trauma.

“I actually I think I use work as a complete way to just escape everything. So, usually it’s a bit annoying when you’re simulating violent lesbian sex and shouting over your shoulder, ‘don’t forget milk, ya know.’ But we managed to separate that off quite well.”

Sally4Ever is up on the docs! I know it’s Julia’s show, really, but I felt weird not putting it in Julian’s folder, so that’s where it’s living at the moment (with a note in Boosh Peripheral > Julia).

I haven’t watched it yet--still psyching myself up for the glorious cringe--but I hope you all enjoy it immensely. xx
