Hello, class. I am Taneleer Tivan, also known as the Collector. What we'll be doing now is Show and Tell. Yes, I can hear you now. "That's kiddie stuff," right? Well, with many students from different planets here, I'm sure we'll see some amazing things. I've collected many incredible things myself, hence my name. Now, does anyone want to show us something amazing first?
[[Thank you!!!]]
Starfire was eagerly raising her hand once it was about the students starting to show things off. Once she was chosen, she quickly slipped off of her seat to move to the front. She wasn't actually carrying anything with her, so that did raise a few confused whispers between the others. Once she stood, she gave a special whistle, and through a window came a pinkish somewhat worm-like creature flown towards her, landing right in her arms. It made some bell-like sounds, and Starfire giggled to it before hugging it tightly, and then presenting it out towards the class. "This is Silkie! He is of a very rare species," the researchers at her home world had even assumed the species to have died out long ago before he came into Starfire's life, "and he has chosen me as companion, which is a very big honor!" Gently scratching under Silkie's chin, who purred in a rather melodious way in return, she continued. "It is said that they are having many abilities, although they have always been very rare and as such it is unknown what those are. As you have seen, he can fly, I believe he is also able to sense certain emotions or thoughts of those around him, although perhaps I am merely interpreting too much. He has also helped me to recover from a sickness faster, before!"

Starfire #9
Writers - Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti
Art - Elsa Charretier
Cover - Amanda Conner & Paul Mounts
Variant Cover - Neal Adams, Scott Williams & Alex Sinclair
Let the road trip begin! Kori, Stella and Atlee take a vacation to Atlee's home - the underground city of Strata. But trouble follows these girls everywhere, and home is not what it used to be! And Kori gets a new pet! (Or maybe the pet gets her!)
The old saying goes, "its about the jouney, not the destination." That's certainly true of this issue since we mostly get some girl time on the trip down to Strata. Lots of good character bits in here especially for Stella, she's really the highlight of the issue. We hear more of how she feels about her job, her brother and her responsibilities in general, plus she gets to kick some butt, so it's all good. She'd definitely a stand-out this issue!
And just when you think this book can't get any cuter, we are introduced to Syl'khee a little alien that seems to have adopted Kori as it's caretaker. He's an intelligent litle bug-like fellow who communicates musically and definitely has his own ideas about what he needs. This might be a bit much for me on the "cuteness scale." This book doesn't need a pet sidekick with the large supporting cast.
I'm mourning the loss of Emanuella Lupacino. Her artwork was just amazing and made this book a fun and beautiful experience. While Elsa Charretier does a nice job bridging the gap (with lots of Kirby influence, I might add), it's just not the same. I actually found myself more interested in the Kirby-inspired characters than anything else. Her style may grow on me in a few issues, but it's a bit jarring coming off the previous issues.
I have to mention the fun Neal Adams variant cover. Inspired by the classic Action Comics #400, Adams turns this one into a nice Teen Titans reference! I’m not familiar with the original story or what’s behind the cover, but I’m a huge Titans fan and this new version made me giggle!
Fun little interlude that seems like its building to some action next issue.
