Yoongi wasn’t a fan of these three day Winter Solstice gatherings. Too much socializing; too much politics. It was to be expected since it was a gathering of regional wolf pack to form and renew alliances, find mates, and sometimes even to make enemies.

The last gathering he’d attended was with his mother as one of her betas. Soon after his best friend, Namjoon had come into his power and split from his mother’s pack. Most young alphas could submit to the pack Alpha but Namjoon just could not so Yoongi’s mother had released him to start his own pack.

Unfortunately, Yoongi had felt the pull towards Namjoon greater than his bond with his mother so he’d left with him. A few weeks later they encountered the survivors of a pack war. They were a beta the same age as Namjoon named Hobi and a young alpha named Jungkook. They both had submitted to Namjoon and the four of them now lived together.

The Solstice gathering was neutral ground where multiple packs converged and the only thing Yoongi looked forward to was seeing his mother. Namjoon had also been talking about hoping to find a beta mate or even an omega one to help enlarge their pack. Yoongi knew that this talk of their Alpha mating upset Hobi as the beta had a bit of a crush on their leader.

As the small pack entered the gathering place, Yoongi saw an alpha pulling a blonde omega by the wrist as a group of betas laughed and followed them. He took a step towards them to protect the omega but Namjoon’s arm stopped him.

“They smell like pack, we can’t interfere. It’s against the rules, ” Namjoon warned. When Yoongi looked back towards the group two wolves had approached them; an alpha and a beta. Yoongi glared at Namjoon.

“They smell like pack, too!” Namjoon defended himself. The two alphas were now squaring off and the omega had been thrown to the ground. Yoongi didn’t even remember running but he was suddenly kneeling next to the cowering omega wolf.

“Are you hurt?” he asked. The blonde wolf turned his gaze to Yoongi causing the beta to gasp. He was beautiful; a button nose, sparkling eyes, a sharp jaw, plump lips and cheeks. Suddenly the omega threw himself at Yoongi. He buried his face in Yoongi’s neck and wrapped his arms around his neck tightly. Instinctively, he wrapped one arm around the omega’s back and the other under his knees before standing up.

His packmates made it to Yoongi side and when he looked over to the two alphas the offending one was on his knees baring his neck at their Alpha Dae, while the omega’s defender was refusing to submit.

“Seokjin, kneel!” Alpha Dae demanded.

“No!” the alpha responded. “This is the third time he has hurt Jimin. He submits now to your face but he disobeys your orders when you are not around.”

“Seokjin! I am your Alpha,” the wolf growled.

“Not after this.”

A crowd had gathered and it was palpable the moment the bond between packmates broke. The new Alpha’s scent changed immediately as he came into his power. His former leader stumbled back with force of it.

The new Alpha turned towards Yoongi with a growl and Namjoon stepping in his path. Even new, if he attacked a rival pack his justice from the Alphas would be swift. The enforcement of the neutrality of the gathering was deadly.

“He’s feral!” Someone in the crowd yelled.

Hobi laughed, “No he isn’t.”

“Hobi, don’t!” Jungkook warned. “Can’t you feel his power? It’s like Namjoon.”

“No,” Hobi said. “But sensing a wolf’s strength has never been my thing. You always say that about Joonie too but I can’t sense it.”

Hobi stepped around Joon and walked over to the very feral looking Alpha.

“Hey, Seokjin, right?” Hobi reached his hands and placed them on the new Alpha’s shoulders. At his touch, Seokjin went from glaring at Yoongi to looking at Hobi. “That’s it. You can relax now. No one is going to hurt the omega.”

The crowd began to disperse as Seokjin calmed down and they realized he was no longer in danger of attacking anyone. Hobi instructed him to take deep breaths and his eyes began to clear.

“Namjoon, he’s an alpha with no pack to ground him. He’s not feral now but he might be soon.”

The beta who had been by his side earlier approached, “Jin, I’m sorry. I tried to protect Jimin but they were too strong.”

“You did good, Taehyung,” Jin said. “You ran and got me to protect him.”

“But now we are out of the pack.” Taehyung answered

“We?” Jin asked.

“Yes, WE,” the beta repeated. “I follow you, Jin.”

“Me, too,” an angelic voice declared from Yoongi’s arms. As they claimed Jin as their Alpha, Taehyung and Jimin’s scents changed to reflect their new pack alliance.

“Jimin, can you please release that stranger and come here?”

“Oh, Jin,” Jimin answered from Yoongi’s embrace. “But he smells so good.”

Yoongi put Jimin down when it looked like he was going to bury his face in his neck again.

“Jimin…”

“Oh fine,” Jimin said with a sigh before turning back to Yoongi. “What’s your name?”

“Yoongi.”

“I’m Jimin. WIll you sit with me at dinner, Yoongi?”

“Okay,” Yoongi said quietly.

Jimin ran over to Taehyung and dragged him away.

Jin touched his forehead to Hobi’s quickly and said, “You smell nice.” before following his new pack his ears bright red.

“Who thinks it's okay to just comment on people’s scents like that?” Namjoon asked. “It’s so rude.”

“Yoongi and Hobi don’t seem to mind,” Jungkook said. “They are both blushing.”

Later that night, Yoongi made his way to the field where the evening meal was taking place. His mother said that years ago alphas would hunt game and bring them to the dinner now most alphas just went to local big box club store and bought food for the meal.

Yoongi smiled as he saw Jimin hovering at the tables but not sitting down yet. When Jimin saw Yoongi, he smiled too and skipped over.

“Our packs have sat at a table over by that tree.” Jimin said linking their hands and leading him over to where the rest of their packmates were seated.

Yoongi could see that Hobi was sitting next to Jin. They were talking and laughing with the beta feeding Jin. This wasn't unusual. Often times betas and omegas would feed alphas from their plate or hands and if a beta was lucky an omega would feed them too. It was a sign of deference.

What was unusual was that the alpha was feeding Hobi too. For an alpha to be hand feeding a beta meant that he was courting him. Jimin gestured for Yoongi to sit before saying he would go make them a plate.

“Can he be anymore obvious in his interest in Hobi?” Namjoon said with a sneer.

“What’s the problem? They aren’t doing anything indecent. Or are you just jealous that Hobi isn’t doting on you, feeding you as usual?”

“I’m not jealous and I am perfectly capable of feeding myself.”

“Oh, really?” Yoongi teased. “Then why didn’t you serve yourself a plate?” Namjoon looked down at the empty table in front of him realizing that instinctively he had been waiting for Hobi to serve him as was his habit. With an angry sigh, Namjoon got up from the table to serve himself.

Jimin returned with an overflowing plate.

“I want to thank you for helping me today, Yoongi.” JImin said beginning to feed the beta.

“It was nothing. I wanted to step in earlier but Namjoon warned me away. He’s worried about making enemies but we’re allied to the strongest pack in the region.”

“The Min pack?” Jimin asked. “I hear their Alpha is really scary; she’s so powerful.”

Yoongi smiled, “She can be, especially when I didn’t do my chores. She’s my mom.”

“Oh -” Jimin said looking at Yoongi in awe. “Do you think I could meet her?”

“I don’t see why not?” Yoongi said. “Think she’d like you.”

“Really?”

“We have similar tastes.” Yoongi said with a shy smile. Jimin blushed and said he was going to get something to drink. Jin followed him to also get more food.

Namjoon was on his way back to the table and as he passed Hobi he put a piece of meat in his mouth. Hobi froze without chewing and Yoongi looked at his best friend in shock. Namjoon had also froze realizing what he had done.

Still holding the bite in his mouth he looked at Namjoon with a silent question, ‘do you mean it?’

“I’m sorry - I didn't,” Namjoon stammered.

“Spit it out, Hobi,” Yoongi said. Namjoon may be his best friend but he wasn't going to let him be a little shit to their packmate.

“No!” Namjoon said. “Don’t ... just …” Namjoon turned and left.

Hobi chewed the bite quickly before Jin came back and sat down with Jimin close behind.

Yoongi went back to paying attention to Jimin and continuing his meal and conversation. Suddenly Yoongi stopped, “Jimin, why aren’t you eating?”

“Because you are not feeding me.” Jimin said with a blush.

“You want me to feed you?”

“Yes,” Jimin said leaning into Yoongi’s side.

“But I’m not an alpha. Wouldn’t you prefer … ?”

“I am right where I want to be.”

“Okay,” Yoongi responded and with shaking hands reached towards the plate and grabbed some of the steak and held it in front of Jimin’s mouth. Jimin grabbed the piece delicately with his teeth.

“It’s probably too cold.” Yoongi said.

“It’s delicious,” Jimin said with a laugh. Yoongi smiled in relief and they finished their meal feeding one another.

Yoongi and Jimin also watched as Tae and Jungkook played the most ridiculous game at the table. A few times the beta acted like he was going to feed the alpha but instead he diverted the bite and ate the bite himself. He did so with a cute noise or sound effect and rather than getting upset at the teasing, Jungkook had the biggest smile.

Normally the young alpha was shy but with Taehyung’s outrageousness the boy was coming out of his shell. Jungkook began doing the same to Tae holding bites out for him only to eat them himself. They had now devolved into aggressively trying to force the other to feed them. Even if it meant diving towards the other open-mouthed and trying to take the food from their fingers. They were laughing too hard to be successful.

As night approached, Jin told his packmates that he was thinking they’d sleep in his car for the night and tomorrow they would make a run into town for supplies.

“Didn’t you bring supplies?” Jungkook asked.

“We would have been sleeping in the tent with our pack but I doubt they’d welcome us.” Jin said with a laugh.

“You can bunk with us,” Jungkook offered. “I’m sure Namjoon wouldn’t mind. We got a big enough tent.”

Yoongi wasn’t even surprised with how oblivious the boy was. He was so into his new friend.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Hobi said.

“It’s fine,” suddenly Namjoon was behind them.

“Oh, really?” Jin said. “Thanks so much!” The two packs made their way over to where they had set up the tent when they’d arrived. Everyone took turns going to the communal rest area to wash up with Jin’s pack making a detour to his car to get their bags first.

Back home Namjoon’s pack lived in a two bedroom apartment near Jungkook’s college, but for the gathering they’d have to all pile onto the big air mattresses that were wedged together in the tent.

Yoongi took a place close to the edge and Jungkook laid at the opposite end. Hobi and Jin laid in the middle and Tae between Jin and Jungkook. Jimin moved between Hobi and Yoongi. Joon looked at them all contemplating where he should go.

“My shoulders a wide enough for two …” Jin said with a teasing smile at Namjoon.

“Oh my god,” Hobi laughed and blushed at the assumption that he’d be sleeping on Jin’s shoulder but the new Alpha just laughed.

Yoongi wasn’t used to snuggling to sleep with his pack let alone near strangers but JImin it seemed had no such qualms because he was literally already sleeping on Yoongi’s chest as Namjoon was experiencing an existential crisis. Jimin was softly snoring into his ear as Namjoon refused to back down and slipped between Jin and Tae.

“I must warn you,” Tae said, addressing Namjoon and Jungkook. “I will usually cling to whatever or whoever is next to me as I sleep.”

“Don’t,” Namjoon warned.

Now that everyone was settled the two packs drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Yoongi woke to Jimin’s face in his neck. He moved so that Jimin’s head was pillowed on his arm instead and he could look at his face. Jimin looked even younger than the 24 he’d told Yoongi he was. He looked like an angel, like a baby angel.

Yoongi realized how ridiculous his train of thought was and sighed but the sound must have awakened Jimin whose eyes began to open.

“Hi,” Jimin whispered.

“Good Morning,” Yoongi whispered back. Jimin pressed his lips to the underside of Yoongi’s neck and chin and Yoongi clenched his teeth. This was a very suggestive move on Jimin’s part meant to provoke and arouse him. Yoongi grabbed his jaw roughly and Jimin gasped when their lips crashed together.

It was too heated for a first kiss but Jimin’s teasing had pushed him past being tentative. Their lips and tongues explored each other and he slotted one his legs between Jimin’s. Yoongi pulled him closer and pressed his thigh against Jimin’s arousal.

Jimin let out a soft whine and rocked his erection against Yoongi seeking relief.

“Yah!” Jin’s voice rang out. “Can you not do that right next to us?!”

Jimin blushed and laughed covering his face then suddenly swung his arm over Hobi to slap Jin’s chest.

“Stop messing up my fun,” Jimin scolded. Namjoon shot up at the noise and Yoongi was surprised to see that his Alpha’s head was pillowed on Jin’s upper arm.

Namjoon tried to extract his hand from Tae’s. In his sleep the beta had grabbed ahold of his hand and had laced their fingers and pulled his arm around his waist. Jungkook was laying on his back and one of Tae’s legs was thrown over over his hips.

Tae opened his eyes enough to acknowledge Namjoon and release his hand before immediately throwing his arm across Jungkook’s chest and falling back asleep. Jungkook never even stirred at the whole commotion.

Yoongi suggested to Jimin that they go search for coffee and breakfast and the two left the cabin together. Once they arrived at the dining area Yoongi saw a familiar face.

“Ma!” Yoongi called out.

“Yoongi!” She replied and walked over to the pair. Jimin was frozen beside him. This was a normal reaction other wolves had when encountering his mother. Her power was overwhelming.

The two embraced and his mother noticed Jimin.

“Who is this?”

“This is my friend, Jimin.”

“You have friends?” His mother teased.

“Alpha Min, it's an honor to meet you.” Jimin said with a shy smile.

“Oh, he’s precious, Yoongi,” she said. “You may call me Jisun.”

“Thank you, Alpha … I mean Jisun.”

“What pack are you with?” she asked.

“Kim pack, ma’am.”

“Doesn’t smell like it …”she said with a smile.

“Different Kim, mom.”

“Oh, okay. Maybe I can meet them later?”

“Absolutely, Jisun,” Jimin said before running off.

“I didn’t mean right this moment,” she said with a laugh.

“He’s nervous,” Yoongi explained.

“Well, with good reason. I’m hearing rumors of a rogue alpha stealing omegas.”

“Who said that?”

“Alpha Dae.”

“He’s just upset that Jimin chose Jin over him.”

“I knew the story was suspect. If what he said was true, the whole gathering would have been on alert.”

“But he might be setting up a false narrative to justify attacking Jin after the gathering.”

“True,” his mother agreed. “Let’s see what we can do about that.”

Yoongi ended up spending the day with his old pack and catching up with his childhood friends. He thought Namjoon would have joined him but he was busy doting on Hobi. In fact Jin was with them and the more competitive Namjoon got for Hobi’s attention the more Jin found it amusing. Yoongi thought it was strange because alphas could get very territorial.

At dinner, Yoongi finally saw Jimin again. He dragged a wide-eyed Jin over to Yoongi and his mother with Tae following close behind.

“Alpha Min,” Jin greeted, when Jimin urged him forward. “It’s an honor to meet you.”

“Please call me, Jisun, Alpha Kim.”

“Thank you Jisun. I am Seokjin but my friends call me Jin.”

“Are we friends, Seokjin?” she asked with a smile.

“I wish to be,” Jin responded, eagerly.

“Do you have something for me?”

Jin’s eyes went even wider as he patted his pockets for something to give the Alpha. Jimin stepped forward and presented a box to the Alpha.

“On behalf of the Kim pack, I present to you this token of friendship.”

Jisun accepted the gift and opened the box and took out a crystal wolf’s head. In the dwindling sunlight it sparkled beautifully. She gestured to one of her omegas to come forward and they handed Jin a package. In shock he opened it and saw a crystal heart the size of his palm.

“Looks like our alliance is serendipitous Alpha Kim,” Jisun said, to the gasps of others gathered. “We got each other similar gifts.”

“Yes,” Jin said. “The Kim pack is honored to call you ally and friend.”

Yoongi smiled knowing Alpha Dae would never attack Jin when the Kim pack had such a powerful ally.

“I get great joy from mentoring young Alphas as they come into their power.” Jisun said. “Do you have territory yet?”

“Not yet,” Jin answered as the two began to eat. “Jimin and Tae will be going to college next month and I was planning to rent an apartment nearby.”

“What college?” Jisun asked and Jin answered with the same school Jungkook attended.

“Oh, how wonderful.” Jisun said with a smile to her son.

“We have already talked to them about the best places to look for an apartment.”

“Wonderful,” Jisun said. “Where is Namjoon, Yoongi? Is that boy avoiding me?”

“Not at all Jisun,” Namjoon said as he approached his former Alpha with Hobi and Jungkook. “I have been busy today.”

They all started eating and getting to know one another. His mother raised her eyebrow at Yoongi feeding Jimin but he just smiled at her proudly and she gave him a nod in approval at his chosen mate.

“Namjoon, eat this strawberry!” Jin said scolding the other Alpha as he fed one fruit to Hobi and held out the other for Namjoon.

“I don’t want to.”

“My uncle is a strawberry farmer.” Jin argued. “What if he picked this strawberry? You would disrespect my uncle this way?”

Namjoon fought a smile at Jin’s antics and Jin held the strawberry out for Namjoon to eat. He leaned forward and took the strawberry from him and Jin laughed. Namjoon smiled and bit into his honey bun. Jin opened his mouth wide in Namjoon’s direction and he held out his treat for Jin to take a bite.

Yoongi was surprised at this. It should have been against their instincts to behave this way towards each other.

“Wow,” Jisun said. “Alpha mates. It’s pretty rare. They usually need an omega to balance them.”

Hobi was laughing at Jin and Namjoon’s antics, finally getting the attention he wanted from Namjoon and also getting the same from Jin.

“How about a very caring beta?” Yoongi asked his mom.

“Mates always seem to make it work. That’s what proves them mates.”

“Looks like our packs are joining.” Jimin said to Yoongi. “Especially if it’s as your mom says and Namjoon, Jin and Hobi are mates.”

“Hobi always had feelings for Namjoon but he never could see Hobi in the same way. He needed Jin there to complete the puzzle.”

“We need to talk to them, Yoongi, to be sure.”

“We can discuss as a pack tonight.”

“Oh Yoongi, you called us pack.”

“You’re my mate, of course we are pack.”

“So you are just declaring me yours without my input.” Jimin said with a faux scandalized expression.

“Jimin…”

“I’m just kidding, my love,” Jimin said laying his head on Yoongi’s chest. “I knew you were mine the moment our eyes met.”

That night as the wolves made themselves comfortable in the tent, Yoongi brought up the merging of the packs.

“We’ve been getting along,” Namjoon said. “But that’s too much. How would that even work with two Alphas.”

“My mother said that packs can have 2 Alphas if they are mates.”

“Mates?!” Namjoon shouted and Jin looked at him sadly. “Alphas can be each other mates.”

“Don’t you want us, Namjoon?” Jin asked and Namjoon gasped. “Come Hobi,” Jin reached out for the betas hand and pulled him out of the tent. “Maybe he wants to work for it?”

Namjoon watched them leave the tent with his jaw clenched and pushed forward.

“Come chase us, Namjoon,” Hobi said with a giggle as the two ran off. Namjoon growled and was out of the tent a second later.

“I guess we’re one pack now,” Yoongi declared as they felt their new bonds formed.

The two other couples settled into a pile and went to sleep.

The next day the new pack left the solstice gathering in two cars towards the apartment the 4 wolves already shared. Jin and Namjoon were already talking about how the pack needed a bigger place. Yoongi was in the passenger seat with Jungkook driving and Tae and Jimin in the back seat. The three were discussing their college schedules.

Namjoon and Hobi were in Jin’s car and Yoongi was sure that Hobi was already researching rentals with enough space for all of them. At breakfast, Jin had approached Alpha Dae to request that his and his packmates belongings be mailed to him at their apartment. Under the eyes of the other Alphas including Alpha Min, Dae had agreed promising the items would be sent within a week.

The seven boys were beginning a new life together, Yoongi thought. A pack full of mates. He smiled wondering when Tae and Jungkook would realize their connection. The Winter Solstice gathering was a time for packs to bond, form alliances and celebrate together. Yoongi reflected how before this gathering he thought these gatherings were tedious.

Jimin leaned over from the back seat to kiss Yoongi and steal his snacks when he was distracted. He laughed at Jimin’s boldness and admitted to himself that this year he’d actually had a good time at the gathering.
