‘Giant’ Predatory Worms Lived in Greenland Waters 518 Million Years Ago.
Adorned with fins down the sides of its body, a distinct head with long antennae, massive jaw structures inside its mouth and growing to more than 30 cm (11.8 inches) in length, Timorebestia koprii was one of the largest animals in the Early Cambrian oceans.

Here is a new painting from me...
Meet Timorebestia koprii, a giant (~30 cm long) chaetognath from the early Cambrian (approx. 520 mya) Sirius Passet biota, North Greenland: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adi6678

A small pod of the newly described stem-group chaetognath Timorebestia koprii observed at a depth of nearly 400 meters. At a size of over 20 centimetres, it is the largest known gnathiferan.

Located in the Early Cambrian Sirius Passet fossil locality in North Greenland and buried 518 million years ago.
The new fossil animals have been named Timorebestia.
They were swimming predators despite only being 30cm in length and were giants predators despite being compared to other tiny Cambria Species
Adorned with fins down the sides of their body, a distinct head with long antennae, massive jaw structures inside their mouth, and growing to more than 30cm in length, these were some of the largest swimming animals in the Early Cambrian times.

Chaetognaths, with their characteristic grasping spines, are the oldest known pelagic predators, found in the lowest Cambrian (Terreneuvian). Here, we describe a large stem chaetognath, Timorebestia koprii from the lower Cambrian Sirius Passet Lagerstätte, which exhibits lateral and caudal fins, a distinct head region with long antennae and a jaw apparatus.

Here are a few of the ZBrush models I sculpted to help me create the Cambrian Epic painting. It was the press release artwork for the paper describing Timorebestia koprii, a giant (~30 cm long) chaetognath from the early Cambrian (approx. 520 mya) Sirius Passet biota, North Greenland: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adi6678
