Just like Pluning, a native Palaweña, who dreamt of having the love she always wanted, Binibini 6 - Angelica Danao Lopez resembles a perfect representation of a Palaweña dreamer.

Angelica's costume is a creative representation of her roots where she came from - the last ecological frontier, PALAWAN.

The main inspiration of Binibining Palawan's national costume is the rich marine life and majestic atoll reef of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Tubbataha Reefs.

The cave represents the only attraction in the country that is complete from mountain to sea ecosystem, the World Reckoned Seven Wonders of Nature, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.

The sequin embellishments adorned with faux sea weeds, topped with aquatic plants and orchestrated with beautifully made corals signify some of Palawan's riches.

Her bodysuit and accessories are made out of precious pearls and crystals to represent the wealthy resources that lie beneath the grounds of Palawan.

The complete ensemble that is innate and symbolic to its land and its people is thus now called "PERLAS NG PALAWAN".

My Ultimate Traveling Goals

The most doable ones are in Philippines (of course) and Japan. I'm gonna have to find at least one travelling buddy for France and Italy. US, well, it depends if my friend from Virginia is willing to come with me, but if not I also have family I can contact in the US in case any shit happens.

These are technically not goals for me though. It's more of a "Well, if I I have too much money and need a grand vacation, I have this list."

I have not included here the places where my friends want to go with me. They mentioned other places in Philippines and then Portugal, Indonesia, and Singapore. Hmm... I do wanna try going to Norway but my reason is very shallow compared to the ones on this list. And so, I'd rather not spend money for something shallow.

There are way too many places in Philippines we (my folks) can visit if we just cared enough to, lol. The ones on this list are just the ones I look forward to the most, if I ever get the opportunity to. Mom said she wants us, as a family, to go to places more often now that she's gonna retire. How convenient for her, while I worry about the entire budget HAHAHA. Well played, ma.

I've gone to caves, I've hiked up mountains, I've dived under a waterfall, I've done kayaking. I haven't camped in a forest yet. I guess that's what my fam and I can do later. Paragliding would be fun too, but I'd do that one with friends cause I don't wanna hear mom's "YOU WILL DIE."

Out of the experiences I had reconnecting to nature, I like hiking up mountains the most. It's the most chill one, and most fulfilling. Going inside caves wasn't all too exciting for me, surprisingly (cause I embrace darkness). It's stressful to go under inside a cave because it's slippery and you can't see far into that abyss. Diving under the waterfall and floating in the water right where it falls.... the experience was also underwhelming. "That's it? Now what. Now I have sore shoulders." LOL. Kayaking was fun! Hella fun! But once it's over, it's whatever. We let the water push us forward and we use center of gravity to prevent ourselves from getting yeeted out of the kayak. What did I gain after that? Sore hips and legs under just a few minutes.

But when I hike up a mountain, there's so much for me to notice. The birds. The shape of the leaves. The texture and color of boulders. The paths of streams. The natural footpaths made by other people just by using them often. There's so much time to spend, it doesn't just pass like one flip in a book. I can rest in between. I can get a better footing and can rely on the ground's friction. I can get sore all over my legs and hips, but once I reach the summit, what do I get? I get a great view above and can just be present to breathe all that in. It gives me a great spot to just write down any thought I have. It makes me feel more appreciative of all the steps I took to get there at the top. That's what I want out of travelling.

When I travel, I want to be able to appreciate not just the moment I spent, but also the history behind it, how it's survived to this day, how people have shaped it, how it came to be, and how it's affecting me, and what I get after the entire experience.

Museums are very insightful, if you know what you're looking at. It's also quite empowering. I get out of museums feeling so much more inspired.

I want to take a good look of infrastructures in Southern France. I don't just find them aesthetically pleasing, but also the structures themselves are impressive, considering their age and the knowledge and tools people had in the past. I want to analyze it personally, and then appreciate the wondrous works of the engineers that designed them and the hard work of their builders. I was thinking of Greece too. But I'm more interested in bridges and aqueducts. This trip is the most ambitious one, I must say.

Japan, I obviously am going there to satisfy my anime desires, especially the One Piece theme park. I'd be livid! One of the other main reasons I want to travel Japan is food AND their arcades. Akihabara is a must. And then I also wanna try doing the traditional tea ceremony. The scenery and vibe in Kyoto I think is the best for it.

I always want to go to a stage theatre. So I'm thinking, I gotta go to The Folgers Theatre for it. It's the farthest one in this list though, and it's the most challenging one to schedule. And tbh, I won't mind if I never get the chance to get there. I still added it here because if I could, then it would be epic as a theatre kid.

In all of these, I'm actually going to be focused on their structures and achritecture as well, yes even the One Piece tower. They have the 3 Going Merry rooms I gotta check out.

Today's activity our topic is "Reviving country striving tourism caused by pandemic"

First we would tackle what is the meaning of "Tourism".The meaning of "Tourism" is the activity of people traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for leisure, recreation, or business purposes. It involves visiting destinations, experiencing their culture, attractions, and engaging in various activities while away from one's home. Let's talk about the country or places that we need to revive. I preferred the Philippines as an example, Do you know that the Philippines has places that are often targeted by tourism such as Rizal Park, Tubbataha Reef from Palawan, Calle Crisilogo, Kawasan Falls and more.But when the "COVID-19" starts in some of most of the places in the Philippines, it rarely visited by tourists.

But I know how to revive some tourism spot by giving some step. First "Assess the Current State" The first step is to thoroughly assess the current condition of the tourist spot. Identify the challenges it faces, including deteriorating infrastructure, lack of amenities, or declining visitor numbers. Conduct surveys and gather data on visitor preferences and satisfaction. Then, "Infrastructure Improvement". Reviving a tourist spot often requires investment in infrastructure. Renovate or restore historical landmarks, improve roads, bridges, and transportation access, and ensure the availability of basic amenities such as clean restrooms, parking, and signage. We also have "Conservation and Sustainability". If the tourist spot is a natural attraction, conservation is vital. Implement sustainable practices to protect the environment, wildlife, and ecosystems. Develop eco-friendly facilities and educate visitors on responsible tourism. Further, "Community Engagement" Involve the local community in the revival process. Their support is crucial for the long-term success of the tourist spot. Encourage residents to participate in initiatives, such as guided tours, local crafts markets, or cultural events. Add to this is "Cultural and Historical Preservation". If the tourist spot has cultural or historical significance, focus on preserving and showcasing this heritage. Establish museums, interpretation centers, or exhibitions to educate visitors about the site's history. "Marketing and Promotion" Create a comprehensive marketing and promotion strategy. Utilize digital marketing, social media, and collaborate with travel agencies and tour operators to increase visibility. Highlight unique features and experiences the spot offers. "Accessibility and Connectivity", ensuring that the tourist spot is easily accessible. Improve transportation links, including road, rail, and air connections, and provide information on how to reach the destination." Diversify Activities" Offer a variety of activities to cater to different types of tourists. This could include adventure sports, cultural events, food festivals, or educational programs. Diversification can attract a wider range of visitors.

"TREASURE" 

The Philippines is a country located in Southeast Asia that boasts a wealth of natural beauty. It is an archipelago of 7,107 islands surrounded by pristine blue waters teeming with marine life. The country's beaches and natural landscapes are among the best in the world, attracting millions of tourists each year. From crystal-clear waters, powdery white sand, lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and majestic mountains, the Philippines has it all.  

              One of the most beautiful and iconic places in the Philippines are its beaches. The country has a coastline of over 36,000 kilometers, with a variety of beaches ranging from secluded coves to busy beach resorts. Each beach in the Philippines has its own unique character and beauty. Some of the most popular beaches are found on the islands of Boracay, Palawan, and Siargao.   Boracay is a small island located in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. It was voted the world's best island in A2012 and is known for its powdery white beaches and crystal-clear waters. The island's main beach is White Beach, a 4-kilometer stretch of powdery sand that is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water activities such as parasailing and banana boat rides.

             The island is also home to other beautiful beaches such as Puka Beach, Diniwid Beach, and Bulabog Beach, which are less crowded and offer a more secluded atmosphere.   Palawan is another popular destination in the Philippines known for its stunning beaches and natural wonders. The island has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park. Palawan has pristine beaches such as Nacpan Beach, a 4-kilometer stretch of powdery white sand that boasts clear turquoise waters. The beach is perfect for swimming and sunbathing and offers an excellent view of the sunrise and sunset.

             Other notable beaches in Palawan include El Nido's Seven Commando Beach and Coron's Malcapuya Island.   Siargao is a hidden gem in the Philippines that is slowly gaining recognition for its beautiful beaches and world-class surfing spots. The island is located in the province of Surigao del Norte and is known for its Cloud 9 waves, one of the best surfing spots in the world. The island has numerous beaches, such as Daku Island, Naked Island, and Guyam Island, which offer a more quiet and secluded atmosphere.   Aside from the country's beautiful beaches, the Philippines also has a wealth of natural attractions that are worth exploring. The country has a diverse landscape of mountains, forests, and waterfalls that offer a different kind of adventure to visitors. Some of the popular nature destinations in the Philippines are the Banaue Rice Terraces, Mount Pulag, Mayon Volcano, and Pagsanjan Falls.  

                 The Banaue Rice Terraces are a man-made wonder that is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. It is located in the Cordillera mountain range and is made up of thousands of terraced rice paddies that have been carved into the mountainside. The rice terraces are 2,000 years old and are still being used by the locals to grow rice.   Mount Pulag is the third-highest mountain in the Philippines and is located in the northern part of Luzon Island. The mountain is surrounded by a virgin forest that is home to various plant and animal species.

               The summit of Mount Pulag offers a stunning view of the sunrise and the sea of clouds, making it a popular hiking destination in the country.   The Mayon Volcano is an active volcano located in the province of Albay in the Bicol region. It is known for its near-perfect cone shape and is considered one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. Visitors can hike the volcano and enjoy a panoramic view of the surroundings, including the nearby towns and bodies of water.   Pagsanjan Falls is a cascade of waterfalls located in the town of Pagsanjan in the province of Laguna. Visitors can ride a canoe or bamboo raft to reach the falls and experience the thrill of going through the rapids. The falls offer a beautiful view of the surrounding forest, and the cool water is perfect for swimming.  

            In conclusion, the Philippines is a country blessed with natural beauty that is unmatched by any other. Its beaches, mountains, and waterfalls are among the most stunning in the world and offer a different kind of adventure to visitors. The country's natural wonders are a testament to its rich cultural heritage and diverse ecosystem, making it a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature.

Can I Tell You...about Berna Romulo Puyat.

Although we’ve never met in person, Berna Romulo Puyat and I have come to know each other thanks to Instagram. We started direct messaging each other a few years ago when she posted a picture wearing one of my clutches given to her by a common friend. Berna has been a long time advocate for wearing Filipino design. In her role as the Philippines Secretary of Tourism she traveled everywhere in the country and through her I saw so many beautiful destinations I have since added to my bucket list. More recently, she has been appointed the Deputy Governor of Central Bank of the Philippines.

I wanted to name a clutch after her that best embodied her spirit, style and love for the Philippines. The Berna clutch is a classic half dome silhouette crafted and molded from natural raffia. It has a variety of hand-embroidered floral motifs and other components that are all hand made in the Philippines. Grace Kelly! Her style was simple and classic, but never exaggerated. Grace would exude elegance, even when wearing button down shirts, capri pants, full skirts, cardigan, and ballet shoes. I also love the way she accentuated her outfits through simple accessories, such as pearls or a nice bag.

I can still visualize myself wearing her clothes because her style and fashion sense are timeless.

5.    What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Raising my children as a single parent since my husband passed away in 2010.

6.    What is your most treasured possession?

My wedding and engagement ring because, without Dave, I wouldn’t have had my children.

7.    Who is your favorite writer?

Kevin Kwan! I only watch movies or read books that have a happy ending so no surprise there. 

I couldn’t stop laughing when I first read his book Crazy Rich Asians! I find his work so funny and relatable. It also didn’t come as a surprise to me when he included Filipino characters in his book, Rich People Problems.

I was fortunate enough to have met him last year and can confirm that he is as intriguing as the books he writes. 

8.    Which living person do you most admire?

If I narrowed it down to two choices, I would choose my mom and dad. I am fortunate enough that my parents are still with us. My mom, Lovely Tecson Romulo, is now 83 years old and my dad, Alberto Romulo, is turning 90 this August.

Mom always inspires me to be strong and to strike the balance between being a mother and a public servant. Dad always reminds me to uphold honor and integrity in public service to preserve the trust the public places in its public servants.   

9.    Where is your dream destination?

I am blessed to have visited the various UNESCO World Heritage Sites in our country such as the Rice terraces (Cordilleras), Vigan City (Ilocos Sur) Puerto Princesa Underground River (Palawan), Baroque Churches located in Intramuros, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Iloilo City and Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (Palawan). So my dream is to visit other sites in other parts of the world.

The top on my list are Angkor Wat (Cambodia), Machu Picchu (Peru), Old Havana (Cuba), Works of Antoni Gaudi (Spain), Chitchen Itza (Mexico), and Serengeti National Park (Tanzania).

I also want to revisit Cappadococia, Turkey to ride the hot air balloons! Nine years ago, my daughter and I woke up as early as 4 am on two separate days to ride the hot air balloon. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to because of the weather. 

10. What is your motto?

“Happiness is a choice.  Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. You can choose to focus on the good or the bad. I choose to be happy.”
