I've had this Belia plate (painted by engelmech iirc) for a while, and finally got a Elder body again. I never noticed how similar she's painted to Eclair, my lusis mod, until putting her together. I think they'll be sisters 💕

I tried again with an unmodded sculpt aaaand... yeah, I don't like it any better 🥲 I think I'd have to mod the eyes just a little bit, so it's an in between of these two, but I'm a bit worried I'd take off too much again like I did the first time...

So I'll see if I'll do that, or if I'll just go with the first modded version and use the other as a romance sculpt, or if I'll sell that one...

Unoa Freak 1, 2 and 3 [Review]

Summary

The Unoa Freak series is specifically written to celebrate and discuss Unoa dolls. Created in 2003 by Gentaro Araki, founder of Alchemic Labo, they were one of the first BJD available on the market. They are not as popular as they once were but Unoa dolls come in many common sizes, making these books a great resource to this day. The books also contain tutorials on face-ups, manicures, modding, stringing and more.

These books have been created with so much love and creativity, from the beautifully illustrated covers, to the fashion editorial style spreads for the patterns. They are one of my favourites to take off the shelf just to flick through the pages.

The number of patterns varies by book and each one has been created by different artists, so do take a look at the tables below before purchasing.

The patterns in the book don’t work for every size of Unoa doll, usually each pattern is designed for a particular body sculpt (cries in Unoa Zero)

My copy of UF2 had a few pages come loose from the binding - not sure if it's a common problem but something to keep in mind

Final thoughts

I don’t think I would recommend these as pattern books for beginners, as the patterns are sized so specifically and the instructions are quite minimal, but if you are an experienced sewer I think you will enjoy the variety of styles here. My main reason for recommending these books wouldn't be the patterns though - it's the peek into BJD history that make them special. I think they are a great addition to any bookshelf.

Let's see if I can remember how to do this... Hi! This is Shiloh! Here's a link to my carrd! This might be my first post, however, I'm far from new! If anything I can probably be considered a fossil at this point given that I've been around for well over a decade now. You may remember me as soenatte and to be honest not much has changed about me, except for the fact that I moved half the world away. I'm still the same book-devouring, nature-loving, doll-collecting geek I've always been, and I wanted this blog to reflect that.

I recently pulled out my camera again, and have been trying to relearn how to photograph my miniature resin companions as well as develop my 'style' so to speak. Not sure how great it's going, but it's been great fun! The little guy in this picture is my precious treasure, Yohre, a Unoa L-Bi who recently arrived to live with me. I'll share more about him in another post soon!

My October toy haul finally arrived! Yay! I was finally able to get a grail for me, that I've been after for a long, long time. It is by a Chinese company, that made figures for their Chinese market only. They were unlicensed, but they weren't making copied products, only their own original sculpts based on licenses they didn't hold. They are no longer around, and this figure is from 2014, and quite huge for such a figure. I wish Nendoroids were as big (Sasuke Nendo released in 2017, so no, not a copy of that), or at least Q Poskets were this big. But then they would be $100USD, instead of $20-30. I wasn't able to get it back when it was released, so it took a whole lot of waiting, but finally, one of my friends saw one and asked right away if I still wanted it, even if it was opened! I wish it was still sealed, but oh well, I can't pass this opportunity, since I don't know if I'll ever come across this figure again in my lifetime. If I do, and it's sealed, I'll get it again! Lol!

I also got my first ever U-Noa doll! It's the one produced by Sekiguchi, but I can't say I don't love the idea that it's not resin. I wish it was a head sculpt with inset eyes, so that it would have that OG U-Noa Azurite feeling, but beggars can't be choosers. I also wish it was one of the more roker-themed ones, with clothes that are closer to t-shirt and jeans, or even better straight rock/punk-ish, but I will settle for this one. Since, this is the only one I'll probably ever be able to get -- I don't believe I have ever seen them on my regular Japanese retailers before, I don't feel I'll get to see another for pre-order as easily ever again. He is a beautiful doll, and I love him, but I wish his clothes or at least his hair was darker, in theme. I love all the Sasuke stuff; I hope to be able to get a second of the Figuarts Zero to unbox one. I already have a second Vibration Stars III waiting in Japan to be shipped. My Eren Suit PUP has a right eye that's bigger than the left... I don't know how to feel about that...But I do love the clear file. I should really stop hoarding those. DX

Also added three Nanana Surprise Minis Series 2, I was able to find locally! I got one from series one from Amzn, back when those released, but I never saw them locally. I fear I completely missed out on getting CJ Cuddles, and so I just got the three from this series I really wanted, before I can't find them in stores anymore. I am also eyeing the kitty one... we'll see, if I get her as well.

Hey, Tumblr bjd fam! Do you keep photos of dolls you no longer?

I no longer own any of these, but apparently liked the photos enough to transfer them to my phone.

I do miss some of the dolls I've sold. I used to think I needed to limit the amount of dolls I owned, even if I liked them. If I wanted a new one, an older one had to go. I no longer own any of the dolls I started the hobby with. I sometimes think fondly of some of them and wish I'd kept them.

Over the years, the style I like has changed. There is still something very charming about the older dolls I still have, though ❤️
