I got silly goofy again with more NeXus characters. Anyway: Cher & Sherlock character study that got away from me and ended up being just over 2500 words
(the fic can also be found on ao3)
The clock ticked on the wall. There was the occasional shout of laughter from outside the apartment. Cher sat at the table, shoulders rigid, fingers tapping the wood beneath them impatiently. The wood was smooth under their arm, the back of the chair digging into their shoulder blades. They wanted to keep moving. They wanted out of here. They wanted to keep everyone safe.
Cher was dropped off at Alonzo’s and his partner’s place to be babysat, despite what Uriah told them. He said it was for their safety but they felt Uriah didn’t trust them, or that he thought they couldn’t take care of themselves. It was humiliating. Not to mention this was probably putting the lovers out of their way just to be there with them. They did not want to do that to them. Cher was not worth the amount of effort the two vampires were putting into them.
Suddenly, a mug was placed before them, snapping Cher out of their thoughts. Owl, what Cher has taken to calling Alonzo’s partner, took the seat across from them, a matching mug in their hands. They were silent, not looking at Cher. Their fingers stopped tapping. They couldn’t help but analyze the situation, Owl’s body language, the way they kept their eyes on the mug in their hands, the mug that was left suspended between the two of them. But Owl just fucking sat there.
The silence lasted for a few more moments
“It’s just hot chocolate, I’m not trying to kill you,” Owl said, those piercing eyes finally glancing at them. “Thought you might like something to do than just sitting here.”
“Where’s that boyfriend of yours,” Cher asked.
Owl opened their mouth, presumably to quip back, but stopped themselves. “Sleeping. He’s running himself ragged over this case.”
“And you’re okay with that?”
Cher knew that the case Alonzo was running after was connected to them and the magical world. It was dangerous to have him this close. Cher knew that. Uriah knew it. And they were sure Owl knew it too.
“I do what I can,” Owl said with a shrug. They took a sip out of their mug before continuing. “I keep him safe. That’s all I need. But, I came in here to check on you. Not Alonzo.”
“I don’t need to be checked on-”
“I’d beg to differ,” Owl cut them off, leaning forward and resting their elbows on the table. “You’re in a bad situation, in a stranger's house, being watched like you are some flight risk. You sat at this kitchen table the whole time because you couldn’t bring yourself to sit in the living room,” they started counting on their fingers as they continued, to prove their point, “You haven’t asked for food, or water, or even for the damn bathroom. And you’re doing this to yourself because you feel like if you get too comfortable it would put us in danger. That it would undermine the struggle and pain you put yourself and your pack through just to keep them safe. You’re ready to fight, to run, if the moment calls for it.”
The air was still between them. Cher was stunned silent, and Owl was still looking at them. How those eyes of theirs were natural would be beyond them. There was the smallest smirk on Owl’s face. A self-assured, cocky smile, as if they knew they were right before they even spoke.
“Am I close?” Owl asked, voice dipping quieter.
Cher didn’t say anything, but they did drag the steaming mug toward them.
“That’s what I thought,” Owl said, smiling.
“You’re not getting anything out of me,” Cher warned.
“Never said I wanted to,” Owl said. “However, I took the risk of assuming you wouldn’t mind some company.”
“I like being alone.”
Owl scoffed into their drink, “Sure, Cheri.”
“What is that for,” Cher demanded.
“Nothing, nothing,” Owl said, holding their hands up, “pardon me if I think that a wolf likes being alone is a little absurd.”
“It’s not uncommon.”
“I guess not. But seeing you interact with Zachary, coupled with the fact that I know you have a pack, tells me otherwise. You are a protector, Cheri, whether you like it or not.”
Cher huffed, rolling their eyes. “Say what you want. This was needed.”
“Of course it was. Someone came after you, and you didn’t want the pack getting hurt. You haven’t stopped since Washington, and I’m assuming you’re not all too pleased about how long you’ve spent here.”
“What do you know,” Cher said, annoyed.
“More than you give me credit for,” Owl shrugged, but still there was an edge to their tone and Cher could tell that Owl didn’t like their experience undermined. “When will you start accepting that we can hold our own around here?”
“What?”
“You heard me,” Owl said, sipping at their drink.
“What do you mean by that?” Cher asked, painfully clutching the mug, warmth seeping deeper into their bones.
“I mean,” Owl drawled, as if explaining it to a child, fingers messing with the rim of their cup in a bored manner, “Uriah would never have harboured you if he thought you were a genuine threat, no matter how much he says he doesn’t trust you. Whether that be you or whatever storm you’re dragging along with you.”
Cher didn’t answer, curling in on themselves. They still didn’t like being here, especially now that Owl was reading them like an open book. Was this just something that vampires could do? Or were Uriah and Owl special?
Owl sighed, relaxing back in their chair. “Listen, I’m not here to interrogate you,” they said. “I just want to talk.”
“We are talking,” Cher snipped.
“Normal talking,” Owl clarified. “Small talk.”
“Why do you want to talk with me?” Cher asked.
“Honestly? Cause you’re interesting,” Owl said genuinely. “You’re a puzzle that I can’t quite figure out. I want to know what makes you tick, Cheri.”
Cher’s mind flashed through the worst outcomes of this situation. Owl could use this against them, or get something about their pack out of them, putting them in danger. Cher wouldn’t be able to stop them from here if they were to put something together. But, a smaller part of Cher’s brain chastised them for it. What was Owl going to do? They were with Uriah, and he was proving himself to be trustworthy. If something was to go wrong, it wouldn’t be because of them.
Cher took a deep breath, “What do you want to know?”
Owl sat there for a moment, staring at the drink in their hands. “You miss home?”
Cher almost changed the subject. However, their silence drew Owl’s eyes again, and they couldn’t stay quiet with the curiosity that burned behind them. Maybe they understood why Alonzo fell in love with them.
“Greatly,” Cher whispered, “every damn day I’m gone.”
“What do you miss most?”
“My pack.”
Owl chuckled, “Naturally. I don’t know why I asked that. You got a big one?”
Cher shrugged. “One could say that, sure. I never really keep track. We’re already a few generations deep.”
“Damn, that must be hard to manage,” Owl commented.
“It is what it is,” Cher sighed, “most of them aren’t old enough to participate in the logistical side of things.”
“And I thought Zach was a handful,” Owl commented, taking a moment to take a sip of their drink.
“Do you consider him a child?” Cher asked.
“In some ways,” Owl said. “He isn’t terribly young in human years, but he is new to vampirism. I can have adult conversations with him and then have to scold him for something stupid five seconds later.”
Cher chuckled, “Fuck, don’t I know what that’s like.”
“You got ones like that?”
“More than I can count,” Cher groaned. “Love them all to death, but I question how any of them are still alive.”
“I get that.”
“You have anyone other than Zach and Uriah?” Cher asked.
“Lump Alonzo into that group and that’s all I got, in some ways,” Owl shrugged, “the rest of the people I know I wouldn’t consider family the way I do them.”
“You’ve built a nice life with them, huh,” Cher commented, not unkindly.
“I sure have.”
Cher could relate, but they didn’t say that out loud. Owl didn’t need to know their connection to their pack ran that deep. It was bad enough they knew as much as they did.
“Do you want to see some pictures?”
“Pictures?” Cher repeated, confused.
“Of me and Uriah from earlier in our lives,” Owl clarified, “I can let you look through the old photo albums while I update the current one.”
They would let Cher do that? Look at something that, they’d assume, was important to Owl? To them all? One part of Cher felt like they were overstepping something. But, how could they when they were invited to do so? Was it an invitation, or a test? Could they-
“I see smoke coming out of your ears, Cheri,” Owl teased with a chuckle. “I’m asking you if you would like to. This isn’t something you need to overthink. Just a simple yes or no will do.”
“I would like to,” Cher responded, surprising themself.
Owl smiled genuinely. “That’s what I thought. Come with me,” they stood from the table, grabbing their mug before making their way out of the kitchen. Cher hesitated for a moment before following suit.
Owl had placed a few coasters on a side table beside the couch before moving across the room to a fairly full bookshelf. “Feel free to sit anywhere,” they said over their shoulder, fingers running along the spines of the albums.
Cher looked around for a second, taking in their surroundings. There was a couch and a few armchairs that encircled a small coffee table, end tables between the pieces of furniture. Cher hesitantly perched at the edge of the couch, on the side closest to the preset coasters. If anyone looked at them they were sure they’d see the tension that was currently residing in their whole body. However, they didn’t get to think about that much, as Owl was already turning around with two albums and a small decorative box in their hands.
“This one is one of my oldest,” Owl said, holding out the more tattered album. “It’s from a couple of decades ago. It’s not the oldest, but we sure were different people back then. Younger. More naive.”
“More naive?” Cher asked, placing their mug down to take the book from Owl.
“Mhm,” Owl hummed. “You never really stop growing, even as vampires. You learn and experience things you never would have if you were human. Gives you an ongoing update on how you view life around you.”
“How old are you guys?” Cher asked.
“Aw, come on now, Cheri, it’s rude to ask people their age,” Owl teased.
Owl turned back to what they were doing, leaving Cher to slowly flip through the book open on their lap. They saw countless pictures of Owl and Uriah in different locations, smiling their widest and looking happy. The descriptions beneath each gave context as to what was going on. There were a few where one was not as happy as the other, in the wake of a prank that was less than pleasant. Seeing the two of them like this made Cher’s heart squeeze. They missed their family.
They got to a picture of Uriah, his back to the camera, at the edge of a lake. The description didn’t give much away, just revealing when the picture was taken, and Cher turned the book around to show Owl.
“What was going on here?” Cher asked, tapping the picture.
Owl glanced up from their work, smiling when they recognized what they were looking at. “There’s a whole story behind that picture,” they said. “You wanna hear?”
Cher nodded, placing the book back on their lap to pay attention.
That’s how they spent the rest of their night. Listening to Owl tell these stories, fuelled by the pictures that Cher would point out. The silence was comfortable between them in between stories as Owl worked and Cher browsed the pictures. The two of them continue to share drinks, and laughs, and Cher would even offer the occasional story about their pack.
This was comfortable, Cher realized, not sure if they were more spooked or surprised by the fact. Owl genuinely did seem to want to get to know them, despite knowing the time that they would share would be temporary. Cher wondered if Owl felt the same way, or if it was different for them.
Later in the night, when the album updating was done, Cher found themselves relaxed on the couch, enjoying the conversation that they were having with Owl. It had been hours since Uriah dropped them off, but they were okay with that. They liked being with Owl. They were nice and seemed to sense when they were getting skittish about a topic, changing the subject soon after. Cher felt like if they met under different circumstances they would have been fast friends.
There was a noise behind them and Cher tensed immediately, spinning around. Uriah stood behind them, as if he was there the whole time. Cher let out a breath, scowling at the man. “Do you not knock?” they scolded.
“This house is just as much mine as it is theirs,” Uriah said.
“You knew who you left with me, Ry,” Owl commented, the slightest edge to their voice. Cher didn’t expect the vampire to stick up for them. “It is good manners to knock.”
Uriah didn’t answer them, turning back to Cher. “Let’s go,” they said, “we need to get back.”
Cher almost talked back, but stopped themselves, biting their tongue harshly. They got up without a word, brushing past her on their way to the door.
“I will see you later,” Uriah said to Owl.
“Uriah,” Owl stopped him. Their voice dipped quieter as they continued, but Cher could still hear them. “They’re a good person, Uriah. I promise you.”
“I know that,” Uriah said.
“I’m just saying. I know how skittish you’ve been around them. Treating them like a loaded gun.”
“Would you disagree?”
“Yes.”
Cher paused, caught off guard by the sincerity behind the vampire’s voice. Did they mean that?
Uriah was also quiet for a few moments, and Cher believed there was some kind of silent conversation going on between them. “You mean that?”
“Every word,” Owl promised. “Just… just get to know them. You’ll see. You know they won't hurt us already, but they aren’t as dangerous as you make them out to be.”
“I’ll see what happens.”
There was a soft sigh from Owl, and then they said, “Thank you. Have a safe trip, Uriah.”
“I will.”
Uriah was beside them a few moments later, and he seemed to be a bit more relaxed. Uriah opened the door, stepping aside and motioning for them to go through. “After you, mon cheri.”
Cher ducked their head as they passed by, face heating up at Uriah’s eyes boring into them.
“Did you enjoy yourself?” Uriah asked when they were alone.
“Something like that,” Cher replied, not looking at him.

UFC Fight Night Predictions: Analyzing the Upcoming Matchups
As one of the biggest and most exciting mixed martial arts promotions in the world, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) never fails to deliver electrifying events that keep fans on the edge of their seats. UFC Fight Night is one of the promotion's many events, and it features some of the most talented fighters in the world battling it out in the octagon. In this article, we'll be analyzing the upcoming UFC Fight Night matchups and making some predictions about who might come out on top.
First up is the highly anticipated fight between Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland. Hall is a seasoned veteran with 38 professional fights under his belt, while Strickland is a younger fighter with a record of 23 wins and only three losses. Hall is known for his devastating striking abilities, while Strickland is a well-rounded fighter with solid wrestling and jiu-jitsu skills. In this matchup, we predict that Strickland will come out on top due to his superior grappling and wrestling abilities. Hall will put up a good fight, but ultimately, we believe that Strickland will secure a win via decision.
Tumblr media
The next matchup on the card features Kyung Ho Kang and Rani Yahya. Kang is a well-rounded fighter with a record of 17 wins and eight losses, while Yahya is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with a record of 27 wins and 10 losses. In this matchup, we predict that Yahya will win via submission. He's a highly skilled grappler and has won the majority of his fights via submission. Kang is no slouch on the ground, but we believe that Yahya's grappling prowess will ultimately prove to be too much for him to handle.
Another exciting fight on the card is the matchup between Niklas Stolze and Jared Gooden. Stolze is a German fighter with a record of 12 wins and four losses, while Gooden is an American fighter with a record of 17 wins and six losses. Both fighters are well-rounded and have solid striking and grappling skills. However, we predict that Stolze will win via decision. He's a technical fighter with good footwork and striking abilities, and we believe that he'll be able to outpoint Gooden over the course of three rounds.
Finally, we have the main event, which features a matchup between Uriah Faber and Ricky Simon. Faber is a legend in the sport with a record of 35 wins and 11 losses, while Simon is a younger fighter with a record of 18 wins and three losses. Faber is known for his explosive striking and wrestling abilities, while Simon is a skilled grappler with solid striking skills. In this matchup, we predict that Faber will come out on top via TKO. He's a veteran of the sport and has fought some of the toughest fighters in the world. We believe that his experience and superior striking abilities will be enough to secure him a victory over Simon.
UFC Fight Night is always an exciting event that features some of the best fighters in the world. While it's always difficult to predict the outcome of a fight, we've analyzed the matchups and made our predictions based on the fighters' records, skills, and fighting styles. Of course, anything can happen on fight night, and we could be completely wrong in our predictions. Nonetheless, we're excited to see these matchups unfold and witness some of the best fighters in the world showcase their skills in the octagon.

Commitment
POTTER'S HAND MINISTRY November 2, 2021 "COMMITMENT" Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, and to lie with my wife: This shows Uriah as a man of great integrity. He was a true “team player” who did not want to enjoy the comforts of home as long as his fellow soldiers endured hardship on the field of battle. COMMITMENT - means that certain decisions are made in advance, irrespective of the circumstances. I will honor Christ, whatever the pain and whatever the cost. INTEGRITY - the quality of being honest, strong moral principles. The state of being whole and undivided. COMMITMENT - is a promise to myself to change and challenge myself. PSALM 37:5-6 Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. If you know your commitment with the Lord you are undivided,  that no matter what happens around you, or no matter what offers to you,  you are still holding on to your commitment with Him. Ano ba yung goal mo? Our goal is to honor God, to praise him, to worship him. TRAP - if you bite in that trap you will be in danger. But if you are committed and spirited you will know if it is test or not, or if it will give a better result. QUESTION: Analyze yourself. • Where are you putting your commitment? QUOTES: Don't ever allow yourself to feel trapped by your choices, take a look at yourself. You are  unique person created for a specific purpose. Your gift matter. Your story matters. Your dreams matter. You matter. 1 KINGS 8:61 And may your hearts be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time." 1. Free Will (Choice) 2. Control 3. Discipline URIAH's ATTITUDE: - Accountability (responsible) - Honesty - Faithfulness - Discipline - Diligent - Trustworthy #pottershandministry

I need to gush about Honor Bound for a bit, I apologize for how long this might get, but I figured it can’t be too wrong to show gratitude for something you hold dear! I found Honor Bound through the “Bleeding through the Bandages” chapter in book 4. I got into whump around that time, mainly as a coping mechanism for my own pain, and I saw that chapter pop up on my dashboard and I didn’t really consider it was part of a bigger story and I needed a distraction so I was like, might as well. And then it ended up being the best depiction of what I was feeling that I’ve ever read; not just the pain, but the frustration, and the exhaustion, and the mind-numbing boredom shown in other chapters too. I read the previous chapters of book 4 and then decided I wanted Context and also More Sam and then I read the first three books in two days. And then I reread them all in one day because I needed to reprocess the journey that was. And then I reread all of them again with book 4 when it finished, and then religiously followed book 5 through the worst time I’ve ever had, and reread the previous books multiple times as 5 was updating as well. Needless to say it quickly became my comfort series, and on multiple occasions waiting for a new chapters was one of those little joys that kept me going. I am so, so thankful I found it when I did. The Honor Bound family is like no other found family, at least to me. All of them are such complex individuals, but their interpersonal relationships are just so deep and meaningful and each is so incredibly unique, I could honestly write essays upon essays analyzing each one. And the way you connect everything and weave tropes into the overarching plot is just Insane, it’s truly like you’re… retelling a story that actually happened, you know? Like these are real people and real stories. Because I can’t com prehend how you come up with some of this stuff. And there are so, so many “cinematic” moments that are just. So raw and hard-hitting and just stay with you. Big and small moments alike. The Ryan reveal, Joseph Stormbeck’s death (best death scene ever by the way?? I’ve told everyone I know about it when I read it I was absolutely in Awe. Never recovering from that), every moment between Sam and Isaac (I also have a sibling who I’m not technically related to by blood but would like, probably die for, so I just really appreciated everything about them and we need more stories like theirs) (and also every time Sam called Isaac out. Good for them), Sam talking Gavin through his caning holy shit that was a religious moment, Gray’s slowburn adoption of Gavin and when Gavin decided he wanted to be a Uriah (and how his initial thought to getting asked what he wants to be called was “Moore”. And then he was like “Well fuck.” Love that dumbass), just every single thing Finn ever did for the family, Finn and Ellis and Gavin’s monologue about giving Finn a concussion (!! chills!!) and their reunion after Coleen, Vera and Tori and the Work Song scene??, Vera and Tori lowkey adopting Edrissa and Edrissa’s character development and her rants about pretty things and her and Sam and Zachariah’s adorable Young Love that made me so giddy right along with them and Sam and Zachariah’s meet-ugly (I mean it was kinda sweet), Gray being the parental figure we all needed, and Nata and Zelda and Nata helping Sam (and now Gavin!!) and Vera being so proud of her puppy. Also, Isaac and Gavin’s relationship…Insane. The most dramatic enemies to lovers and I love them for it. Invented love. It’s so crazy to read the beginning and see how far everyone’s come and think about everything that has happened from that one Whumptober prompt. It’s a lot but it also makes so, so much sense. I can’t imagine a version where Isaac and Gavin aren’t together in some way (and since I started out of order, when I realized it was a enemies to lovers I was really excited to see how all of that happened. Especially after reading the first book, because it (1/2)
(2/2) was like, how the hell are they gonna get from point A to point B. No way those are the same characters, how is this ever going to get justified? And then Gavin ended up having the best character development Ever, and I love that, I love that he had to work for it and that we as the readers have to work to love him too, because it pays off). And now the ending of book 5! Oh God. On that note, you’re so good at writing villains; making them human and also absolutely detestable and killing them off in the most satisfactory way tailored to them. There was never a point after a major arc where I thought “oh, I wish this had happened instead of x, I wish this had gone this way instead”. Also, to go back on the topic of pain (physical and mental both)! The way everyone copes with it differently, it’s the same thing but it’s unique to the person dealing with it and that’s so clear in your characters, and I also love, love how you made a point of showing how pain changes people because that’s something that I find so often gets ignored, whether voluntarily or not, even in whump. But, yeah, pain definitely changes people. And that’s not always bad, and it’s not always drastic, but it happens and it’s not a shameful thing. Everyone breaks. And HB made me believe that I was allowed to break, and that it’s still possible to live a life you think is worth it. And I won’t even get into how much it’d taught me about friendship and family and how it made me reflect on my own relationships with my loved ones (especially Isaac’s perspective, oh God). It’s just such a rewarding journey. That’s the best word to describe it, I think. And this latest chapter: “The sun shone brightly on the hood of the car, so bright Isaac almost had to close his eyes. The wind moved through the trees that swayed on either side of the lane. Isaac rolled his window down, and he could hear the birds calling to each other, and the sound of the wind rustling the long grasses that smelled so green. With each heartbeat, Gavin relaxed in his arms, his head falling against Isaac’s shoulder, his breaths becoming deep and slow again. A tear rolled down Isaac’s cheek, and he hid his smile against Gavin’s hair.” That image. It’s so vivid and visceral. It gives me the exact same feeling as spring after a long winter (which is…super fitting, actually). It’s that moment of pure contentedness when you realize it’d all been worth it. I don’t know, it just really, really struck me, and I’m so glad the book ended on that note. Despite knowing more hurt awaits, even that feels okay, because happiness will always find a way to seep through. And God, do they deserve that! It’s gonna be heartbreaking when their story ends, but I also know it’s gonna feel right. Like a peaceful retirement. Just, thank you for sharing this world with us, Athena. I hope you’re aware how meaningful this story is to so many of us. And being able to follow it in real-time and hear your inputs and chat about the characters and scream in the comments and reblogs is such a privilege (and being able to read it for free at all? Five books (six counting Vera)! For free! Though I will be getting books 1 and 2 soon hopefully actually). I cannot wait for book 6 and I Will be crying about book 5 until then (and long afterwards, most likely). And I wish you all the best in everything you take on next.<3
Wow, I... wow. I had to set down my phone and just sit in silence after I read this. I’m just... so humbled and amazed that you were able to connect so much with the story and the characters. I’m so glad that you saw something of yourself, and that you were able to find comfort in it. I find comfort in them, too, just knowing that the characters are there when I need to write them.
It’s important to me for things to turn out ‘right.’ That’s part of why I write whump: the bad guys can be defeated, the good guys emerge safe, and love prevails. Writing Isaac and Gavin’s love story was absolutely the biggest surprise for me, it really did feel like I was the last to know. But I treasure them both so much and I love writing them. The family is so fun to explore, with each relationship being so different from the other. I’ve poured so much of myself into this story and into every single one of the characters.
Book 6 is going to be such a challenge. It’s the last book in the series, and the one that’ll (hopefully) tie everything together. I’m giving myself a little break, but I’m also a little scared to start it because once I start it, then each chapter will be closer to the end, and then it’ll be over. I have a few more things in store for the family but at the end, I hope they’re safe, happy, and together. These characters mean more to me than I can say and I’m so happy I’ll have you with me along the way.

Rest in Pieces | Far Cry 5 | Leah Rook
Summary: Funerals are never easy, but they can be defining.
a/n: Wrote this to get an idea of who Leah was prior to her decision to become a deputy. I wondered what could have derailed her from her chosen course in law. And I realized she’s a country girl at heart who held onto a big little dream until she was the only one left at home to take care of her folks and the land she grew up on.

Rest in Pieces
A biting winter wind howled down the mountains into the Holland Valley. Leah stood on the back porch and watched the flurries dance in the air obscuring her view of the vast landscape that surrounded the Rook family farm. This land had been in her father’s family for four generations, and from the sound of the wind the whole valley was mourning the loss of Paul Rook almost as powerfully as his daughter.
Pulling the neck of her coat more closed, she stared out into the field of white only broken here and there by the dark outstretched limbs of evergreens. One good thing about the cold, she couldn’t cry. It was like the tears froze before they could even get to the surface. That didn’t take away the pain at all. No, the sucking maw deep in her chest gaped like a black hole that threatened to swallow her up wholly and utterly.
A wailing from the house pulled Leah’s attention back to the present. Her mother was taking it bad.
“Mama?” she called, walking back inside and sealing the door behind her.
Another pained sob echoed through the house, pulling Leah up the stairs to her parents’ room. She’d almost never been in that space, though over the last few days she’d crossed that threshold several times a day.
“Mama?” she said more softly, trying to make even her voice comforting as she crouched on the floor next to her mother and draped her arms around the woman, who seemed to have collapsed under the weight of her own grief.
Ruthie Rook had always been the strongest person Leah knew. This crumpled form draped in black wool bore so little resemblance to the woman she remembered when she was growing up. Though the rough hand that grabbed hers, that was familiar. The whole family worked the land, and her mother had been no exception. In fact, she probably worked harder than everyone else considering she had to cook for everyone, clean, and keep up with four kids beyond the work on the farm.
She held her mother tightly, rocking her until the sobbing calmed a bit. Hearing the door slam downstairs, made her mother startle.
“Who?” she managed to ask before her voice gave out.
“It’s just the boys.”
Her mother relaxed against Leah.
“Ma, Sissy!” The full baritone voice that carried up the stairs belonged to her oldest brother Josiah. Leah hated when he called her that, but he always did, even more so whenever she asked him not to do it. She’d figured out to stop asking by middle school.
“Up here,” Leah replied. Judging by the resounding sound of boots on the stairs, he wasn’t alone. She shifted and tried to get her mother to her feet, but it proved futile.
“What happened?” Josiah shouted when he rushed into the room.
“She’s grieving,” the youngest Rook child replied like the answer should be obvious, even to her brawny brother.
Uriah leaned against the door jamb, trying to stay out of the line of fire like always. While Noah walked over and offered his sister a hand up. Josiah was broad and muscular like their father had been in his youth; he easily hauled their mother to her feet as she clung to him.
“I got you, Ma,” he told her, ignoring Leah completely.
Noah leaned closer to her as Josiah escorted Mother to the hall. “You doing all right?” he whispered.
“Could be better,” she admitted.
The youngest brother, Uriah remained silent and took up the rear as they all moved down the hall. The car Josiah hired for the family waited in the drive, the heat from the tailpipe billowed into the cold air like smoke from a fire. Leah stopped at the door and grabbed her mother’s coat, draping it over her shoulders. Both she and Josiah helped her into the warm garment; he swatted his sister’s hands away and buttoned it up himself.
Leah just let out a long breath and waited for her brothers to leave. She locked the door, making her pace slow enough to earn Josiah’s annoyance yet again. “Sissy, get a move on. We can’t chance being late.”
Her green eyes rolled as the tumbler of the lock slid closed. Even today, he couldn’t let up for just one damn minute, she thought. She climbed into the vehicle and sat between Noah and Uriah; the former draped his arm over her shoulder and gave her a squeeze. It was just like when they were kids. Uriah hung back and tried to go unnoticed; Noah played the calming influence and comforted the younger ones when Josiah was on a tear. It was almost a blessing when their oldest brother got a football scholarship to Ole Miss. After that, they only had to deal with his brand of prideful teasing and irritation during the summer, on holidays, and for special occasions. It was almost bearable.
Honestly, Leah didn’t know if she could take it today. She sank against Noah, trying not to let her own grief overwhelm her. She missed her father more than she could ever explain. She’d always been Daddy’s Little Girl; he’d taught her to hunt and shoot, encouraged her big dreams of going to law school, and was certain she’d be the District Attorney of Hope County, which had been her meager little dream.
The drive would not take long. Thirty minutes or so with the weather, if her guess were correct. She laid her head on Noah’s shoulder, remembering the last few weeks; most of which were spent in the University Hospital in Missoula. The man in that faded in that hospital bed had borne so little resemblance to the one that held her on his shoulders on parade days when she was a child.
Watching the landscape pass by through the windows, Leah realized that she hadn’t been home in too long, she had missed all the signs. The man who laid in that bed with barely the strength to get to his feet felt like a stranger at a glance. Only when she studied his face could she find traces of her dad.  He’d gotten so gaunt, looked almost skeletal at the end, and she’d overlooked it—been so focused on her own goals, that she hadn’t been there for him when he’d needed her.
Her eyes screwed shut to stem the flow of tears. She had to be strong for her mother; she had to be strong like her brothers. You can do this, she assured herself.
Once they reached the church, Pastor Jerome rushed out to the vehicle and pulled the door open.
“Ruth,” he greeted, holding a hand out to the widow.
Leah ignored the conversation that sparked around her, instead steeling herself for the next hour or so. She just had to make it back home. That’s all. Noah let her walk on her own once they all exited the car. Uriah pulled the wrist of his coat back to check his watch. His sister didn’t know how to read the action, though she never really knew how to decipher Uriah’s behaviors and whims, even as children. Despite being the third child of four, he somehow managed to keep to himself. Though maybe being the youngest brother made him more likely to pull away.
She didn’t realize that she was analyzing her brothers as a coping mechanism, at least not until they reached the front of the church. At the first sight of her father’s profile, all the strength Leah saved up flooded out of her like an ice cube on the pavement in summer. Her knees gave out and she hit the floor with an echoing thud. She gasped fruitlessly but couldn’t seem to catch her breath.
The whole world seemed to collapse in on her all at once. She stared at the runner, her nails digging at the carpet fibers for purchase as she became aware of the weight of Noah’s hand on her back. His voice sounded in her ears, but she couldn’t make out what he was saying. And no sound left her.
He was gone, really gone. The man who’d always believed in her was gone. The one person that looked at her like she could do anything. He’d always been there. Loved her when it seemed like no one else could. Held her when she cried. Gave the biggest and tightest hugs. Encouraged her. Believed in her. And now …
“Why?” she finally sobbed in a whisper, when Noah raised her face in his hands.
“Shh.” That was all he said, when he pulled her into a hug, tears glistening in his own eyes. There was comfort in her brother’s embrace—he gave hugs like her daddy, tight and warm and unrestrained. The kind of hug that made you know for certain someone cared. He rocked her gently, well, rocked them would be more accurate. Even Uriah, laid a hand on her shoulder.
Puddled on the floor, Leah blinked past the edge of her brother’s shoulder. She hadn’t cried yet. She’d managed to escape it, until that moment. Seeing her father laid out at the front of the church cemented the whirlwind of the last few weeks.
Before anyone else arrived, Noah got Leah off the floor and into the family pew. Apparently, the ceremony was beautiful, if the condolence cards received afterward were to be believed. And Josiah gave a fitting and respectful eulogy, but that should surprise no one. Leah couldn’t attest to any of it. She stared at the casket the entire time, holding Noah’s hand, as the occasional sniffle shook her entire body. Besides that, it was like time stopped for her, and it did not restart until they reached the house again.
Thankfully, there was no graveside event. The ground was frozen. His casket wouldn’t be interred until the spring thaw.
“What the hell was that?” Josiah growled at her once he had handed mother off to Uriah.
Leah didn’t answer, couldn’t. She watched their mother rise up the stairs and into the house. The door didn’t quite close behind her. Josiah grabbed Leah’s arms and shook her until her head tipped enough to catch the angry look on his face. Still all she could do was blink, but the tears were too hot now, the cold wind couldn’t stop them even as they burned her already red cheeks.
“Back off,” Uriah called from the door. “Let her be.”
“He’s right. We all lost him. And she’s the one that’s been here the whole time. The one who had to put this all together,” Noah argued.
Josiah’s glare softened a shade, and he brought his hand to his sister’s face. She wasn’t sure if she really saw it or if it was an illusion. He’s eyes went glassy for a moment before he blinked it away. Then he pulled her toward him and planted a kiss on her forehead. It only served to shatter her all over again, but this time he caught her up in a big hug, one that held a surprising amount of tenderness.
“Come on, Sissy,” he whispered in her hair. “It will be all right. You’re going to be all right.”
Reassurance from Josiah Rook. In all her wild imaginings, that was not something Leah ever thought she would live to see, let alone experience for herself.

TITLE : HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
DATE : 5th February , 2021
Father God in the name of Jesus! I thank You for my life and the person reading this life. Please forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness and purge our sins with the everlasting blood of JESUS. You have predestined pathways for us to walk down. Holy Spirit lead us our savior JESUS Christ. Amen
Today, our topic is ,how do you know you have a real relationship with God? One of the surest way to know that you have a true and sure relationship with God is when you SIN. Because if you have a relationship with God, if right now if you live in sin and you're addicted to porn, sleeping with someone who is not your wife, doing drugs , whatever you are doing ,you can know right now whether you have a relationship with God or not.
If you are right with God, He will do 3 things in your life to show that you really belong to Him. What happened to David, happens to everyone who truly knows God and they decide they're going to live in sin.
1. GOD WILL LEAD ME TO CONFRONT MY SIN.
David in his life has committed a perfect crime, he had sex with Bathsheba , he has covered it up and nobody will ever know ,David thought because he was a man of God owns heart everything was cool. But things are not always as they appear. Because if you may remember , there's a footnote in chapter 11 and it reads like this 2nd Samuel 11:27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
He thought nobody will ever see and Joab will keep his mouth shout . He thought he had fooled everybody but it displeased the Lord. Now , God had waited patiently for a year, He knew David would do what he ought to do ,God doesn't settle all his account at the end of the day, week or year but God does settle every account. David had wrapped up the account of adultery and murder on a credit card and now debts have to be settled. God waited for 1 year, David wrote about that event in Psalm 32 and 51, what we found out was that David was miserable in that year, Psychologically, physically, mentally and spiritually David was absolutely wretch, but David wasn't prepared for Nathan but God prepared Nathan for David. Nathan visits David and David had no idea why Nathan had come to visit.
So the story begins in.
2 Samuel 12:1 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
If you're right with God , He will send the Nathan into your life, when did God send Nathan? Was it immediately after he committed adultery? No
Was it after he murdered Uriah? No. Was it after he married Bathsheba? No
Nathan does the wise thing, he tells David a story and David assumes it is true, now here is the story.
2 Samuel 12:1-4 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
Now the symbolism of the story is plain, it is not hard to figure out, in the story David is the rich man, Uriah is the poor man, Bethsheba is the ewe lamb, the traveler is temptations, David got angry with the rich man, let's see how David puts it.
2 Samuel 12:5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
Let's analyze it. Nathan tells David a story which is not true but David thinks it's true, David gets worked up on someone's else's sin but ignores his own , Now Nathan is about to share with him 4 words that will make him run to God
2 Samuel 12:7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man....
Can you imagine how David would have felt, his hands begin to shake the , his eyes begin to feel with tears because he was the man. His sins has been exposed,
If you are truly a child of God and if your heart is truly right with God, whatever sin you conceal from God, He will expose it. Then God takes step 2
2.GOD WILL MOVE ME TO CONFESS MY SINS.
David had concealed his sin and God had revealed them and now, what God tells David through Nathan is,
2 Samuel 12:7-8 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
Here is a man after God owns heart, and he had totally forgotten God's heart. This is the lesson, you never have to do what is wrong to get what is right for you, you know how I know that, because God always wants what is right for you, with God the end never justifies the means and the means never justifies the end. Let me make this simple, if you got to lie, cheat ,steal or cover your tracks and nobody is looking to get what you want something God doesn't want you to have, and David was about to face how wicked sin is.
Davids sins were much worse than he thought, God tells him 3 things ,all sins breaks God's heart. Listen to what tells David.
2 Samuel 12:9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight?
Then he says this in verse 10.
2 Samuel 12:10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
And then He says he verse 14
2 Samuel 12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
Here's the point, all sins ultimately primarily against God, if I steal from my boss, I'm not primarily stealing against my boss, I'm stealing against the God who said You shall not steal, for what David sin has done is when we sin.
1. We despised the word of God , because even though we know what God tells us what to do we don't do it. We despised the word of God.
Then we disgrace the name of God , even though we know that God wants us to what is right, we still do what is wrong, and we damage the reputation of God, we give outsiders to say something like this " you're an evangelist and you have been sleeping with someone the whole time you been ministering? "
Every time you sin, you despised the word of God , you disgrace and damage the reputation of God, all sins hurt God. This is the David I want you to love and respect. I know he's an adulterer, I know he's a cheat, I know he's a murderer but this is the real David, watch what he does.
2 Samuel 12:13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD.
This is the David after God's own heart, not did he made a public confession , it is the most published confession in history, it has been read by millions of people over 1000s of years. The reason why God can take away Davids sin is because of his descendant Jesus, another King.
When you go back to what the Lord told David,
2 Samuel 12:13 ...The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
Another translation says, the Lord has laid your sins on another, that's exactly what God did through Jesus Christ, 2000 years later, Jesus was standing before pontius Pilate, and Pilate has done a thorough investigation about this man named Jesus and he said I found no fault with this man.
This is what he said about Jesus
John 19:5... And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
2000 years after this happened, Pontius Pilate looked at Jesus and said "You are the man" because when Jesus died on the cross He became the man who took our sins that we might be forgiven and enjoy God's grace .
David wasn't defined by his sin and neither of us, you're defined by what Jesus did on the cross, your sins may define your pass, they don't have to destroy your present and they don't have to determined your future. You know why, because you can come to the Man, who took your sin , turn to Jesus who said I'm going to take your sin for you and from you and I'm going to deliver your from guilt to grace , because I AM THE MAN
Thank you for joining me and have a great weekend

Python Training in Bangalore
Best Python Training in Bangalore Offered by Industry Experts at Uriah. Enroll For Python Course and Learn How to Use Python Programming.
Python for Beginners------Anyone can learn Python
 Prerequisites to learn Python
To learn Python we don’t require the knowledge of any other programming languages. To learn all other programming languages we should know the basics of C/C++. Python It is simple and easy to learn a language that is recommended for beginners. Because of this most of the entry-level programming courses uses python to explain the concept of programming to their students.
What is the necessity to learn Python?
Even though python has made available to the public in the year 1991, suddenly it became more popular because of its advanced features. Since market trends keep on changing everyone needs simple and easy to learn the language. Nowadays, for the development of all advanced technologies, most of the developers prefer Python language which is more flexible compared to other programming languages.
What makes it different from other languages?
To learn Python there is no need for any prerequisite languages.
Python supports programming as well as scripting languages.
Its syntax is very simple and readable compared to other languages.
Since Python is an interpreted language there is no need to be compiled before its programs are executed.
It’s free and open source and can run in any operating system.
C is a procedure-oriented programming language but not an object-oriented programming language. Java is an object-oriented but not a procedure-oriented programming language. Whereas Python supports both object-oriented as well as a procedure-oriented programming language.
Since Python is a General-purpose programming language we can use it in various domains.
It is possible to merge any other languages with python so as to improve the performance of any application.
Python has got a large standard library so that we are not required to implement all the functions. It has got many inbuilt functions and modules to perform specific operations.
Python has an automatic memory management system that automatically clears the garbage.
Since python is a portable language it is possible to move from one platform to another without making any changes in the python program.
Python is a dynamic typing language. Based on the value provided to the variable, it will consider the type automatically. There is no need to declare the variables compared to other programming languages.
Because of its inbuilt features it takes only fewer lines of code compared to other languages. Python has got many inbuilt features so that performance and memory utilization will be improved.
What are the applications of python?
The various domains where we use python are as follows.
• Desktop Applications –Any software that runs in our operating system. Some examples of desktop applications are Microsoft word, skype, Photoshop, Windows file explorer, web browsers like chrome, firefox, internet explorer.
• Web Applications-It is an application program that runs on a web server which is accessed through the internet connection. Some of the websites developed using python are Instagram, Google, Netflix, Pinterest, Dropbox, Uber and so on.
• Database Applications-It is a computer program whose main purpose is to operate a huge amount of information by entering, retrieving and managing data from a computerized database. Computerized medical records, banking systems, and airline reservation systems are a few examples of database applications.
• Networking Applications-The network applications are useful to transfer the data from one place to another within a network. Some of the networking applications are file transfer between two accounts on two computers, instant messaging, and real-time video conferencing
• Game Developments-A library in python called PyGame makes it easier to write games. It provides image handling functionality and sound playback features that can be incorporated into the game easily.
• Data Analysis (Data Science)-The process of extracting useful information from data by using various techniques and algorithms. Data science courses in Bangalore covers various domains like Artificial intelligence, Machine learning, and deep learning. Data science uses any of these methodologies in order to analyze data and extract useful information.
• Artificial Intelligence-It is a part of data science that allows machines to mimic human behavior.
• Machine Learning-It is a part of AI that uses algorithms to analyze data, learn from it and predict future without human intervention.
• Deep learning is a part of Machine learning that uses various algorithms from an artificial neural network.
• IoT-Internet of things-It means, all the electronic devices are connected to each other in a local area called a network and this network is further connected to each other to form a bigger network.
So for the development of all these technologies we need to use Python which is more flexible than any other programming language.

WIP Wednesday
I haven't done one of these in forever, and once again haven't been tagged. Either way you guys get the littlest update on what I am working on so that I am held responsible for what I do. ANYWAY
(if ya'll wanna do something too you should tag me! I love seeing people's works :D)
This week I wanna show y'all two snippets, one from my OC work and one from a fandom I rarely talk about on here. I'll start with the fanfic stuff first (all is gonna be under the cut because I think it looks cooler that way)
So, here I present a part of my Cher & Sherlock character study. These guys are from NeXus (created by the one and only @mr-laveau which can be found on their youtube channel). This mostly is just me seeing how my Characterizations of these two listener characters play out with one another. That and I have been itching to write something NeXus related since the second video on the channel. Anyway:
The clock ticked on the wall. There was the occasional shout from outside the apartment. They were not worth the amount of effort the two vampires were putting into them.  Suddenly, a mug was placed before them, snapping out of their thoughts. Owl, what Cher has taken to calling Alonzo’s partner, took the seat across from them, a matching mug in their hands. They were silent, not looking at Cher. Their presence wasn’t… unwanted, but Cher still felt on edge. Their fingers stopped tapping. They couldn’t help but analyze the situation, Owl’s body language, the way they kept their eyes on the mug in their hands, the mug that was left suspended between the two of them. But Owl just fucking sat there. The silence lasted for a few more moments. “It’s just hot chocolate, I’m not trying to kill you,” Owl said, those eyes finally glancing at them. “Thought you might like something to do than just sitting here.”
(You will probably be able to find this fic soon on my AO3 :D)
And now my favourite part of this: the part where I get to show off my OCS. If you haven't seen anything before these two are my god characters. They are the sole reason why in my world anything exists. They are literally my heart and soul you guys i don't know if you understand. ANYWAY, snippet of the creation of the Strix:
Terra had been messing around with different designs for a bit, shaping and reshaping the clay in her hands in an almost bored manner. None of the designs were sticking out to her, and weren’t exactly how she was picturing things. Normally, this wasn’t such a problem. She was usually able to perfectly recreate what she was thinking. However, each time she did just that she found that the design was impractical, or didn’t look the way she imagined it would. In all honesty it was starting to irk her quite a bit.
She was about to give up on the design, but tried one more time. This one was also imperfect, but… Terra thought it had potential. It was a small, winged creature that Terra was going for, but there were a few things that she fixed or added. One of them was a short, curved, needle sharp beak. The other was sharper talons as well. After messing with the colours for a bit, making them a clash of green’s and blue’s, Terra brought the prototype to life. It slowly became mobile, turning it’s head from side to side, watching Terra curiously. Terra held out a finger to it, and it readily hopped over onto it, turning back to Terra and giving a small chirp.
Terra grinned, mouth stretching wide as she watched her creation. “Well, hello, little one,” Terra said gently. “You’re not as big as some of your cousins, but I think you look absolutely adorable.”
The creature chirped in response.
Terra only smiled wider, nose scrunching in the process. “Well then, what shall we name you and your siblings? Hm? Any ideas?”
The creature didn’t respond, only tilting it’s head in the other direction. Terra pursed her lips as she thought.
“What about… finches? No, that’s a bit to human sounding. We need something different.” Terra hummed, reaching up to gently stroke her fingers over the creature’s feathers. She had gotten an idea, and her eyes lit up. “Oh, what about Strix? That’s a fun sounding name. What do you think?” The creature chirped again, and Terra smiled. “I’m so glad. We’ll have to tell Caelus next time we see him, I did promise I’d keep him-”
“Tell me what?” Caelus asked, beside her all of a sudden. He settled next to her on the ground, eyes immediately falling to the Strix. “Never mind. I figured it out.”
Terra gave a sheepish smile, holding out the Strix. “Don’t you think he’s cute, though?”
Caelus didn’t seem like he did. He was never very good at hiding his feelings, especially not from her. “He’s… something,” Caelus said.
Terra swatted at his arm playfully. “Be nice at least. He’s technically yours too.”
Caelus looked spooked by the prospect, however he didn’t have time to comment on it before the Strix was hopping onto his knee. Caelus held as still as possible, eyes not leaving the thing.
“Aw! He likes you!” Terra gushed.
“And, uh… what is he, exactly?” Caelus asked.
“I call them Strix,” Terra said matter-of-factly, but she was already getting distracted.
Caelus stayed like that, staring down this creature. If he was honest, he actually didn’t mind this one all that much. It was a bit of an eyesore, but he was a bit smaller than the others. It was roughly the size of half his forearm in height. A manageable size. The creature chirped at him, and Caelus couldn’t help but give a small smile, reaching forward to cautiously stroke the feathers on the creature’s head. It looked like a freaky bird, he commented to himself.
Terra’s words caught up to him then, and he snapped his gaze to her. “I’m sorry, them? What do you mean them?”
“There’s more than one,” Terra said, like it was obvious, “I just haven’t had the time to make them. But-” She trailed off, taping the ground in front of her, at the feet of a few dozen more. They came to life in a blink, all staring at their companion and at Caelus. It was only a second more before Caelus was swarmed in a flurry of feathers and wings. Terra gasped, watching as the creatures settled and Caelus was covered with the birds.
Caelus did not look happy. Terra tried to keep her giggling subdued.
“Get them off,” Caelus said through his teeth.
“I don’t know, I think this look suits you,” Terra snickered.
“Terra-”
“Okay okay,” Terra said, though her amusement was still evident. She rose to her knees, hands reaching for the creatures, fanning them away or moving them herself. “Come on guys, you heard him. Shoo. Go.”
Caelus was relieved when they were all gone, but he was still grumpy. Terra giggled again.
“Oh come on, It wasn’t that bad! Stop being so grumpy. I saw you smiling at the first one, I know you secretly like them,” Terra teased.
“I do not,” Caelus denied.
“Uh-huh, okay, whatever you say big guy.”
Terra’s amusement was cut short when one of the Strix flew over and pecked at her neck.
“Ow!” She cried out, hand flying to the spot. She frowned at the creature who fluttered in front of her, looking up with that curious gaze of theirs. She pulled her hand away, only for it to come back smeared with blood. Her frown deepened even more.
“Are you okay?” Caelus asked, concern in his tone, half reaching toward her out of habit.
“Yeah,” Terra said, more mystified than in pain. “They shouldn’t… they probably don’t know better. They were just created after all.”
Caelus still seemed wary, but Terra didn’t allow for the conversation to continue. Instead, she started herding the birds up to place in a temporary home until she felt like they could join the rest of the world. It was going to be a while before they were accustomed to their new world, and Terra also had to train them on a few things to keep them safe.
This will be fine, Terra could feel it in her very core.
If you wanna read more, I also have this story about Terra and her realization that Vampires exist.
that is all I have, but but I love talking about my things and am open to any questions, and like I said i'd love to see y'alls work too!!
