Have I mentioned how much I like the "The Ecdysis Club/An Ecdysiast's Parable" pun in Cultist Simulator?
Ecdysis is the process of an arthropod shedding its exoskeleton as it grows. An ecdysiast is a professional stripper.
By switching the two words around, and naming the cabaret after shedding your skin but the moth lore after the strip tease, the writers conflate their meanings. So the dancers shed their skins in an act of transformation, empowered¹. And it is the adepts seeking power who invoke the arthropod in moth lore, which presumably strips itself bare for the consumption of outsiders².
You see this is literally the case, if you play the dancer route
As with all things in the Wood, it is unclear if this consumption would be metaphorical

in light of the librarian showing us just how unhinged the cultist is i bet the cultsim patrons don't actually need the cultist for new information or anything they just commission those essays because they want to see what that weird feral idiot's doing with those lore bits
like mme bechet and count jannings are only calling the cultist up because the kerisham review readers/the count's bros see the insane ramblings the cultist puts into every article and they eat that shit up

Book of Hours x Disco Elysium - Which one is your signature skill?
First time posting here. Have mercy on me. :)
Here are some portraits of the elements of the soul from BoH in the style of the skill portraits from Disco Elysium with a little character creation mockup. After posting this on the Discord server, I was encouraged to post it on r/weatherfactory. There I was encouraged to post it on Tumblr.
Here are the links for the hi-res versions of the skills, if you're interested. :)

The cultist, after reading a book: Aha! I've found this incantation hidden between the lines that will allow me to summon a violent creature of the Thunderskin! Then my rival will surely perish at its hand!
The librarian, after reading the same book: Alright, I know how to play drums now. I'm gonna play a fun tune for my midwife neighbor :) and then she'll help me clean up that one room :)

It's really weird, but it also totally makes sense that Judaism exists in the Secret Histories canon. Like Christianity does not exist, and the word's still out on other major world religions, but Book of Hours confirms that Judaism is 100% A Thing in this world.
But like...Persians exist. Englishmen exist. Every other culture and ethnicity exists. So, of course Jews exist, and with that comes Judaism. It's a package deal. Even for non-practicing Jews. Even for Jews raised gentile. Religion, culture, and ethnicity are inextricably linked.
Meanwhile, Christianity doesn't really have that base. You can literally swap out Jesus for Dionysus or Mithras, and history turns out mostly the same. And that's what they did, making the Church based around Sol Invictus instead. The cathedral doesn't have crosses, it has sun wheels instead.
But in this one tower you find a menorah, because a Jewish doctor once lived here. And that really means something.

tier list of all the hours in cultsim based on how horny I think they are
S Tier: The Grail - Self explanatory
The-Mare-In-The-Tree and The Malachite are canonically rumored to fuck nasty in the woods despite it technically being illegal to fuck if you’re immortal
A Tier: Mother of Ants - im biased because I think she’s hot. the fact that jesus is one of her names won’t deter me from trying to hit that.
The Forge of Days - Quite literally caused a millennial calamity via killing the Sun-In-Splendor because she was afraid that they would get too horny, would put in S tier but she did kill her lover so.
The Moth - Listen having one of the ways to ascend as the carapace cross is to be a stripper and lapdance in several occult locations. The moth may not fuck be they sure as hell don’t mind that.
The Sister and Witch + The Witch and Sister - these lesbians are literally intertwined with two different versions corresponding to different aspects. Which one is the witch and which one is the sister? I don’t fucking know and neither do you. One drowned after the other and if that doesn’t scream tragic sapphic sex idk what does. also they probably sent the recipe to the sex in the beach cocktail to some random bartender as a prank good for them.
B Tier: The Flowermaker - While I don’t know much about them, I do know that those flowers a definitely drugs. Not horny enough to bone but horny enough to make Acid 100000.
The Thunderskin - Bro got flayed because The Grail and him fucked to the point that he was the sacrifice bc they just really boned that much.
The Beachcomber - While this avian hour does not have any lore behind its sexual preferences, it is said to “collect the secret liaisons of the hours and gloat”. Fucking voyeur.
C Tier: The Elegiast- He is not the kindest hour, but he does not forget. This may or may not extend to the liaisons of mortals. Best not to ask him about it.
The Colonel and The Lionsmith - Gonna be honest these two are too caught up with trying to one up each other via eternal strife to actually think about committing the crime of the sky. Shoutout to the theory/headcanon that The Colonel and The Mother of Ants are secret lovers though.
The Vagabond - Has probably fucked in her lifetime, but is definitely too salty over being banned from the Mansus to think about sex.
The Velvet - She’s too busy digging in the dirt and hiding juicy gossip and world ending secrets. Understands consent as she did say No to the Glory.
D Tier: The Sun-In-Rags - I don’t think any of the technical children of The Sun are too happy about being born via failed and lethal sex. Definitely don’t think the Sun-In-Rags is happy about visiting what’s essentially his mom when it’s the spitting but depressed image of his dad.
The Door in The Eye - I don’t think medieval LASIK is hot tbh but that might just be me. Other than the fact that Teresa is within its vicinity, there are no horny vibes here unless you count blood.
The Meniscate - Child of The Sun, see above. However, bonus points to how she’ll take in the dancer if they are too symmetrical to be sorted under heart or moth.
F Tier: The Wolf Divided - CONSUME TEAR KILL FLESH. CONSUME TEAR KILL FLESH. CONSUME TEAR KILL FLESH.
The Crowned Growth - EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD EAT MOLD
The Madrugad - Probably the least traumatized of The Sun’s children. Also probably has the level head to not get involved with anything that has to do with The Crime of The Sky.

Of the principles in Cultist Simulator, some seem easier than others to get a feeling for what the common thread is meant to be in their themes, and Heart seemed like one of the more confusing to me, but I feel like I have a better idea of it now after having thought about it in the context of literal hearts. I know in theory that the heart is made of a different kind of muscle from the skeletal muscle, and it's specialised to work continuously, but intuitively it feels weird that it never rests. It speeds up and slows down as needed, but it never stops. If you're lucky, your heart may beat continuously for a hundred years, never pausing once in all that time. If it's injured, it just heals while working. If it's not strong enough for the demands placed on it, it gets stronger while working. Normal muscles need a mixture of work and rest to get stronger, but not the heart, or at least not in the same way. If it pauses for just a minute, that's a life-threatening emergency. Occasionally (particularly if I have a blocked nose), I feel tired of breathing, and take a break for half a minute or so. I suppose there are even multiple sets of muscles that work the lungs, so if one can't be used, others can temporarily take over. With the heart that's not an option, it just has to keep going. If you think about all this, does your heart feel tired? Mine does. I assume it's just psychological. They're built for this after all. I can't remember if I've read anything about Heart Longs, but whatever it is they do, it must be exhausting, but perhaps they're built for it too. If Longs even have muscles, are all of a Heart Long's muscles cardiac muscle? I assume percussigants lack the ability to become tired. The heart must work continuously, because its work is the work of staying alive. It isn't the only part of the body with this property, but it is one of the most visible and obvious. This links in to another of the themes of Heart, vitality. Both Heart and Nectar relate to life, but I think a large part of the difference is that Heart is life like warm-blooded animals live it, needing to constantly keep going because if it stops it will never start again, while Nectar relates more to the much more chill lifestyle of plants. Vitality provides the ability to keep going through hardship, but the continuous act of living is also what creates vitality. Joy, too, inspires action over rest. Most of the game's curses can be overcome with Heart. I guess you just need to persevere and outlast them. The principles generally have something a bit creepy about them, something that's just too much. I think this is what that is for Heart, even though it's one of the more overtly positive Principles. Possibly I'm overgeneralising from a few examples. I'm not sure I can actually describe all the other principles this way. Perhaps it's silly to put too much thought into understanding the principle of Heart, given there is no deep truth to be discovered here in real life, it's just a bundle of associations that the authors put together. That doesn't mean it's not something that can be understood though. The games are well-written, with thought put into fitting things together in a way that makes sense.

The Earthly Powers
I wanted to talk about a pet theory I've had for the presence of the powers of Sky, Scale, Rose, Moon, and Nectar, specifically why they're present in Book of Hours and not Cultsim, which has confused me for a while.
Initially I thought they may have been recently classified in the time between the games, but it seemed like a drastic change to add five new powers to the roster in that time, until I saw the posts talking about the differences between the librarian and the cultist, particularly how the librarian is much more grounded in the world around them. Maybe these powers are rarely present in the Mansus, and instead powers of our world, and potentially viewed by the cultist as useless as a result, powers unrelated to the power of the Mansus, of magic, that do not contribute to their ascension.
What use is the Sky and Moon of our world, not visible within the Mansus? What nectar, what blood, flows through a land not of the living? What relevance is scale, the immensity of the earth they seek to leave behind? What value is a compass rose in a land which cannot be mapped?
