Here are my favorites this year so far. First line and a half are in a order, the rest aren’t. There’s a lot more I liked this year, but I haven’t listened to them enough/the aren’t “””my favorites””” And links to them if you’re curious what they are:
Murderer - I Did it All for You (repetitive, dark garage rock, members of a thousand Toxic State bands)
Protocol - Bloodsport (best hardcore release of the year, completely raging/pummeling hc drenched in feedback, ffo YDI/Negative Apporach/Infest/Youth of Today. Tallahassee HC Forever)
Pinocchio - Pinocchio 7″ (i have no description, just one of the best bands around, members of Vexx/numerous Toxic State bands. Apparently they’re a “divisive” band and that’s so dumb. One of my favorite bands to see live)
The Minneapolis Uranium Club Band - The Cosmo Cleaners... (good ass smart/methodical punk, in the vein of Wire/Devo/Minutemen, but much more in its own universe (and with songs three times the length of those bands)
Warm Bodies - UFO Extremo’s (also one of the best bands around, complete ripper)
Laura Stevenson - The Big Freeze (devastating)
Haram - Where were You on 9/11? (NYC hardcore band secured firmly in their own sonic world)
Hank Wood & the Hammer Heads (2 song cassingle of some of their best songs, garage rock played by a bunch of hardcore dudes)
Denzel Curry - Zuu (it’s just good!! No link it’s on spotify)
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs (i was gonna write a straight up review of this just now but i didn’t. also no link)
Blazar - Reach Out (I said Tallahassee HC Forever, dammit! Members of Ex-Breathers, Night Witch, more)
Armor - Demo (I said Tallahassee Hardcore Forever, dammit!!)
Pile - Green and Gray (equal parts 90s Touch&Go, Archers of Loaf, and pre-1960s country)
L.O.T.I.O.N. - World Wide W.E.B (hardcore-tinged industrial)
Torche - Admission (slow and low)
Sunn O))) - Life Metal (slower and lower)
