Hello!
I saw that you would be happy to talk about Chivalry a bit, so I was wondering what your favourite part of it has been so far? Whether it be your favourite scene, a little detail that makes something come together, or a certain interaction that was particularly fun to write!
I really enjoy this fic, and I will say that you have single-handily made me (and probably the entire Elegies server) Hegemol fans! I got to give it a reread soon - I love the set-up and twist in Chapter 6, and all of the details that you add that really breaths life into the setting.
(Also, getting back to writing after hiatuses can be rough at first, but you got this thing! Just take your time - we'll always be excited for the Best Beetle Boy :) )
Thank you as always for the asks Tigerlily!! I'm sorry this one took so long to answer.
So far out of what's posted, I think chapter 6 with the dream sequence is my favorite thus far. It was very very fun to write, and I love diving into the more metaphysical sensory details. I've got so many more scenes in my head that won't happen until much later in the fic, and among those are some I can't wait to get to haha-- but for now, the fucked up dream sequence with Lurien (wink) is my favorite.
I also enjoyed writing the bath scene right before it but I had to edit it like 3 times because for some reason I initially wrote it EXTREMELY homoerotic like. More homoerotic than when I write actual sex scenes. Fellas is it gay to wash the grave dirt off of a previously dead knight??? (Yes)

fanfic tag game
I was tagged by @thetimemoves. Thank you!
Ao3 name: greenapricot
Number of fics: 73 - 48 recent (the last 5 years). 25 from before 2009 (all originally posted on livejournal)
Fandoms: Lewis (40), Endeavour (7), Shetland (2), Inspector Morse (1), Victoria (1), Harry Potter (18), Supernatural (4), Firefly (2), Torchwood (1) The numbers don’t match up with the total number of fics because some of them are crossovers.
I’m only going to answer questions for the fics from the last 5 years because I don’t really remember a lot about writing the older ones.
1. Fic you spent the most time on: Phantoms in the Early Dark (Lewis, James/Robbie, teen, 35k). It’s a multi-chapter casefic and also my longest fic by far so it outpaces just about everything else. Second most time spent is probably the third part of my OT3 series, Overture (Lewis, James/Laura/Robbie, explicit, 5.9k) writing three people having sex at once is complicated as it turns out. Or Over the Edge (Lewis, James/Robbie, teen, 11.8k) which I resurrected from abandonment and then it grew multiple chapters.
2. Fic you spent the least time on: I assume one of the ficlet’s that’s less than 500 words is the one I’ve spent the least time on, but I also don’t have clear memories of the process there because they’re short. Both Why not? (Endeavour, Box/Fancy, teen, 800w) and Aftermath (Lewis, James/Robbie, teen, 1.4k) appeared almost fully formed in my head (one in the middle of the night one in the middle of a bath). I wrote them pretty much in one sitting on my phone and posted them only a couple days later which is very unusual for me (usually there is a lot of obsessive editing).
3. Longest Fic: Phantoms in the Early Dark 35k for the fic itself (38k including the epilogue fic). Second longest is Wolf at the Door (Lewis, werewolf au, James/Robbie, teen, 12k).
4. Shortest Fic: More than all the rest of the world (Lewis, James/Robbie, teen, 235w)
5. Most hits: Phantoms is the top of everything so I’m going to pick second most as well. Second most hits: All in All (Lewis, James/Robbie, explicit, 3.7k) part two of the All Told series.
6. Most kudos: Again, Phantoms. Second most kudos After All (Lewis, James/ Robbie, teen, 3.7k, 5x fic) part one of the All Told series.
7. Most comment threads: Phantoms. Second most comment threads: Over the Edge, and I’m going to also pick third since OtE was already an answer: It’s the heat, clearly (Lewis, James/Robbie, teen, 4.1k)
8. Fave Fic you wrote: Picking a favorite is very hard. I love them all. Phantoms is definitely the fic I’m most proud of and it may well be my fave, but since it ends up being the answer to so many questions I’m going to pic a favorite of the fics I haven’t already mentioned here (or in any other meme) and go with Misuse of Police Resources (Lewis, James/Robbie, explicit, 4.2k) because it was super fun to write and super fun to read the reactions to it in the comments.
This got really long so...
9. Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: I have plans for a third fic in my Shetland series No Holiday. I had also planned to write a follow up to Where Everything Slipped from when I first wrote it but I’ve never gotten back to it. I also have plans (and an outline and a fair amount written) for a casefic in my wingfic universe but in These Times I keep end up writing shorter less complicated things. I’m sure I’ll get back to all three of those at some point.
As far as rewriting, I can’t say that there’s anything that I’ve written in the last 5 years that I would change. I obsessively edit things before I put them out into the world, so if it’s been posted I’m happy with it. Probably some of that pre-2009 stuff could do with some rewrites though.
10. Share a bit of your WIP or share a story idea that you’re planning: My current WIP (Robbie takes a life drawing course and James happens to be the model) is in the (hopefully) final stages of editing. I posted a snippet from the first chapter in a previous writing meme. This is from chapter 2:
Robbie is at his desk staring down the new protocol that’s been mandated for the upcoming performance assessments when Hathaway arrives with coffees and two small, brown paper sacks.
“‘Morning, sir.” Hathaway deposits a coffee and one of the sacks on Robbie’s desk. The sack has the tell-tale pleasing oily spots that mean it’s a croissant from that little bakery James passes on days he takes the longer route on his morning run.
“Nice run?”
“Mmm.” James’ mouth is already full of croissant as he shrugs off his jacket and drapes it over the back of his chair; a not dissimilar motion to shrugging off his robe last night. There are no outward signs that James saw Robbie in class, which means either he didn’t, or he did and has chosen to ignore the whole thing.
Robbie fishes his croissant out of the bag and takes a bite of flaky, buttery heaven to distract himself from the fact that he now knows exactly what the curve of James’ naked shoulders looks like under the fabric of his shirt. When he’s finished the croissant he’ll ask which course James has chosen, even though he already knows it’s Ancient Greek, and that will prompt James to ask him what he chose. He’ll admit it was the life drawing class, James will either turn red with embarrassment or make a sarky quip, or both, Robbie will offer to drop the course, and that will be that.
He’s not even halfway through his croissant when Innocent pops her head in to “borrow James” for a few hours. They don’t have an active case at the moment, so off James goes, leaving Robbie to face the performance assessments alone. As James disappears out the door, he has the sinking feeling that not bringing up the class first thing was a missed opportunity. Ah, but what does it matter? James will only be gone an hour or two.
But an hour or two turns into four hours, then the rest of the day.

I tag @bryndeavour, @vita-s-west, @mcgstarroar, @daisyfornost, @ronniebox, @novemberhush and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it.

Ten Writing Questions
Tagged by: No one, I stole this because I wanted to do it.
1. Do you share your writing online? Why/why not?
Nothing is posted just yet. The only reason I haven't posted anything public is because I am a perfectionist and I want my stories mostly written before posting a first chapter. I hate starting something I can't finish and I know myself well enough to know that unintentionally dropping something is definitely a possibility. It’s just who I am as a person u_u
I tend to have middle pieces of a story completely written out but with no written beginning or end. I was once told that if you can't find inspiration for the scene you are currently writing, start writing a scene for the future. I have summaries of each chapter with small written dialogue for certain scenes. If I am not feeling inspired by the scene that I am writing, I will choose one that will appear in the future. Possibly an end scene even. Whatever tickles my fancy :) that way there is always progress.
2. If you had to write outside of your genre what would you pick?
A mystery of some sort maybe? :) Something heavy with dialogue and maybe science or math. I tend to focus more on the setting, atmosphere and emotions/thoughts when it comes to my writing so I would love something more factual and less wishy-washy. I would also say action but I actually love writing action, I am just not very good at it.
3. List up to 5 WIPs that you are currently following on writeblr.
I am currently only keeping up with @thricepiercedpirate‘s fics. I had two other fics that I was routinely obsessively checking up on but those fics were completed a couple of weeks ago. So now I am lost :)
4. Do you have a favourite author?
David Wong. I don't think he's well known. I've also only read his 'John Dies at the End' series :) But when it comes to faves, there’s that one. Also Clive Barker with the Abarat series. Those two are the only ones that have stuck with me over the years.
5. What was the first story you ever finished? How do you feel about it now?
Nope. I've never finished a damn thing. The closest I can get to answering this question is actually by bringing up my old RPs. I only ever finished one of them and it was written with a friend of mine (the friend that got me into op) through a year and a half of writing back and forth. It wasn't constant, there were months where neither of us could reply. The rp though ran a good 5 years in story and included a lot of things we had to do research on.
Probably one of the few pieces of my old writing I still don't mind looking back on (and yes, I still have every single reply saved). It’s been 7 years since we finished it.
6. If you could only ever read 3 books again in your lifetime what would they be?
No clue :) I don't read much anymore. But seeing as I haven't read the most recent book of the 'John Dies at the End' series then I wouldn't mind rereading those.
7. What are your long term goals for writing - is it a hobby or do you hope to publish one day?
100% hobby. I just wanna fucking finish and post something.
8. What would you like to write about more?
Darker themes. I am not entirely sure what I mean by that but when I was younger my step-father had a lot of 'banned books' in his library at home and I would read through them. Cannot recall the titles of any of them because I was young but they were dark. And very real. Helped open my mind at a very early age. I just want to write something real I guess.
9. Have you ever written something you regret?
Of course :) All of my old FF stuff that I still get alerts from. People are STILL reading them and I have no idea as to WHY. I assume its all youngins like I was when I wrote them.
10. Is your writing a secret or do people irl know about it?
Not a secret, just not something I openly talk about because I don't want to have to explain ANY OF IT.
I’ll tag: Everyone and no one. I think you all know by now that I don't tag people. So just do it if you want to :)

What is your total word count on AO3?
156,790. Woah. I definitely didn’t think I’ve written that much.
How often do you write?
Not as often as I’d like tbh. I tend to write when inspiration strikes and I have the time. Those don’t usually both happen at once though. I generally squeeze it in at least once a week, but it varies a lot. (It does sorta shoot up in the middle of midterm season for some reason, though. I tend to really wanna write when it’s the worst possible time.
Do you have a routine for writing?
Nope. I mean, not even a little bit. I like handwriting things a lot more, but I’ve got no issues with typing stuff either. Sometimes I’ll do an fairly in-depth outline of what I’m doing with a story, sometimes I honestly just wing it and hope for the best. Half the time my notes on a fic end up in different places depending on what papers I had around me at the time. Long story short, I’m a mess.
What’s your favorite kinks/tropes/pairing?
I’m gonna start with the easy question: favorite pairing? Coldflash. Pretty sure it’s no contest at this point. Tumbled headfirst into the fandom a couple years ago and never looked back. (Although I also multiship, and it’s both a blessing and a curse)
Trope-wise...I always like enemies-to-lovers/friends-to-lovers stuff. Found family is also one of my faves that I’ve had for a while. IDK if this counts as a trope exactly but hurt/comfort is my jam - destroy my emotions and end happy is all I ask of anything. @kashinoha also got me into sickfic a little while back, although I’m writing it less now (partially cause too much of that tag for CF is my stuff...figured I’d back off a bit).
Do you have a favorite fic of yours?
Literally going back through all the things I’ve written to figure this out.
Umm... Doubts and Things Deserved is probably one of my favorites just cause it’s the hurt/comfort-y Len and Coldflash fic that I live for. Tbh there’s some weird wordings and whatnot that I wish I’d fixed, but I still love it. I also go back to Smooth Criminal (because singing and Coldflash, need I say more?) and Heists, Holidays, and Head Colds (because fluff and humor and there are puns) pretty often.
Switching gears, but Calm Before the Storm is another personal favorite of mine. It’s a short Hobbit thing and isn’t even posted as its own fic, but I like the OC I created for that story, and she’s since sorta demanded to have her entire story told. So it sorta got spun out into a whole AU universe because I like this character and her backstory, but it’s not one that I can take into original story territory.
Speaking of, Reminiscing the Past is also pretty special to me? It’s for YuGiOh and one of my older fics (so it’s not the best written and my style’s changed since then) but it kinda got me into writing? It also has its own set of original characters that have actually now sorta led me to reframe that entire story as an original work. So aside from my fanfic, this is actually my current writing project at the moment, and it just makes me happy cause I’m finally writing some stuff of my own.
Your fic with the most kudos?
Putting Things In Perspective (Coldflash soulmate AU from 7 POVs - aka probably the most technically difficult of my fics so it makes me happy). Okay, this isn’t surprising. It’s my most viewed thing and just topped 8k hits recently?? Wow, I love you guys.
Anything you don’t like about your writing?
That it rarely happens. I get lazy and writing feels like I’m procrastinating work, so instead I end up on this hellsite instead of writing OR doing work and I think you get the picture. I should write more often. I also feel like my writing is really fast, if that makes sense? I always see other people’s things and they’re these super long, really developed epics, and I have no idea why mine just end up shorter? Dunno if this is bad or not, but it sorta bugs me.
I also suck at action scenes. But that just is what it is.
Now something you do like?
I’m not sure if I’m necessarily good at it, but I tend to fold a character’s voice into the narration itself, and I love using that sorta thing to distinguish who’s narrating the fic/chapter (tbh that’s what Putting Things In Perspective is as a fic, and I’m actively trying to do that for Such Deliberate Disguises.) It makes me feel like the storytelling is unique, I guess? It’s also fun when characters take over the story. It doesn’t happen for me often, but it does on ocassion, and that’s always fun, even if my brother looks at me and says I’m crazy when it happens.
Tag some of your favorite writers:
Umm...I’m not sure who has or hasn’t been tagged? I know there’s a bunch of super talented writers in the Flash Trash chat that I haven’t really talked to yet, but if any of you see this and wanna do it, consider yourself tagged :)
(Or really anyone else in the Flash fandom, so many great writers here)
