Freshii 3-Day Juice Cleanse
I’ve been feeling more like a pasta-tarian than a vegetarian lately, so- inspired by a coworker- I decided to do a 3-Day Juice Cleanse from Freshii to get myself back on track. It’s not so much a Detox as it is a nutritional cleanse. I don’t know if I’m going to lose any weight doing this (Freshii disclaims that they can’t guarantee weight loss because every body is different) but for scientific purposes I weighed myself this morning pre-cleanse: 168.8 lbs How it works: You drink four juices roughly 2.5-3 hours apart throughout the day and end the day with a Metabolic Salad. If you’re hungry during the day they recommend drinking lots of water and herbal teas. They also recommend light exercise only since the reduced calories may lead to feeling lightheaded or dizzy. Day 1 Thoughts: It’s 5 pm and I’m surprisingly not hungry ... but I feel empty. I want to munch. I really miss the fiber that normally goes along with all these veggies. Also, as soon as I determined that I was going to eat and drink nothing but juice and salad for the next couple days I immediately became fixated on pizza. It wasn’t even a craving, it was more like someone telling you “Don’t think of elephants” and then all you can do is think of elephants. My mind just kept going “You know what you love? Pizza. You know what you can’t have? Pizza.” But I’m not craving pizza ... my brain is weird. I walked home (approx 20 mins) and walked up 6 flights of stairs. I caved in and cheated by 9 pm. I had a pb and banana sandwich before bed ... actually it was an hour and a half before bed. I could have done without the bread, that would have been healthier and in keeping with the veggie cleanse. I think the fact that I stayed up so late (late because I get up at 5 am) is the reason why I became so hungry. Note to self: go to bed early tomorrow and Wednesday. Day 2 Thoughts: I weighed myself this morning and I had lost a full pound! Wow. Currently at 167.8 lbs. Unfortunately I then called in sick to work and went straight back to bed with a headache. I slept until noon and didn’t start my first juice until 1 pm. I haven’t been drinking as much tea and water (that is to say, none) as I did yesterday. Mostly it’s because it takes me a good hour to get through one juice. They’re very hearty. Then I take a bit of a break and then it’s time to start the next juice. I’m not waiting the full 2.5 - 3 hours between juices today because I want to get them all done by a decent hour tonight. I didn’t exercise today and I only left the apartment to go grab tomorrows juices.
No exercise.
Day 3 Thoughts: I’m alert almost immediately after waking up instead of the usual grogginess for the first couple hours. I pee every half hour (and it’s bright orange!). I’m a bit constipated but not too bad. I’m drinking tons of water and green tea - this is definitely a habit I’m going to keep up. I prefer veggies in their munchable format. I forgot to weigh myself this morning (damn) but I’ll weigh myself tomorrow morning prior to eating or drinking and I’ll get to see the full three day effect. Today I drank the juice in fast bursts to minimize the taste. I could trick myself into thinking I was drinking heavily sugared iced tea for the first few gulps and then the aftertaste would kick in. It still took me most of an hour to get through a juice. I really enjoyed the Metabolic Salads. I’m not normally a fan of mangos but it was nice to eat fruit that wasn’t juiced.
I walked home (approx. 20 mins), walked up 6 flights of stairs, took out the recycling via elevator and then walked back up 6 flights of stairs. And the final weigh in ... 165.8lbs! I feel awesome. I think my definition of hunger has been altered. I now drink water instead of snacking and I’m drinking several large cups of green tea at work each day. Juicing helped me power through caffeine and sugar withdrawal and it’s been 7 whole days since I last drank pop, which is astounding for me. I’m going to try my very best to keep up these habits. 10/10 would try again.
