I'll be honest, I really wish SEGA would focus on other IPs aside from Sonic and Yakuza. I'm really scared that we might never get another Puyo Puyo game ever again...
Puyo Puyo x Tetris 2 wasn't that long ago (2020) so I wouldn't be too worried yet. If we don't get another Puyo game in a couple years, maybe start sweating about it then.
Similarly, Sega has tons of IPs. If we focus on whatever isn't Yakuza or Sonic, the last five years from Sega has give us:
Company of Heroes 3
Endless Dungeon
Hyenas
Samba de Amigo: Party Central
Demon Slayer
Football Manager
Project Diva Megamix
Persona 5 Royal
Two Point Campus
Humankind
PSO2: New Genesis
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania
Total War: Rome Remastered
Total War: Warhammer 3
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate
Two Point Hospital
Vanquish and Bayonetta Remastered
Citizen of Space
Most of the Sega Ages Switch games (Shinobi, G-Loc, Columns, Puyo 2, Virtua Racing, etc.)
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Sega is at least still moving forward. Even if it means they are neglecting their history in favor of recycling the same parts of Sonic the Hedgehog over, and over, and over, and over again.

I'm sorry, but I despise what the Sonic the Hedgehog series has become. Nearly every game in the series since 2010 has been a nostalgic cashgrab, and SEGA seems to be more focused on live-action films and Netflix cartoons than the quality of the actual games themselves. I don't want to support this series anymore. I don't want to call myself a Sonic fan anymore.
this is not a confession booth

Any thoughts on the Korone DLC for Frontiers that was exclusive to pre-orders in Japan?
It's fun that she got to be the Sonic ambassador for Japan and in general Korone is one of the few vtubers I've generally liked. That's not to throw shade at anyone else, but most of them are aimed at a demographic I am not, especially if we get into the realm of like, professional vtubers, run by talent agencies and stuff like that.
But Korone is cute and seems to venture outside of the comfort zone of what you'd normally think of as "a cute anime girl plays video games." That's probably why she became the Sonic ambassador in Japan, right? Horizons are being broadened.
As for the DLC itself, eh, whatever. It's some different color shoes and some Koco reskins, right? It's very minor, but Sega is inching very slowly into the world of letting Sonic wear cosmetics, I feel. Most of the other cosmetics in Frontiers aren't very interesting, either. I'm not losing sleep over the Korone cosmetics being Japan-exclusive, if that's what you're wondering.

I just want a proper 1991-1997 Sonic the Hedgehog collection that has all of the Mega Drive/Master System/Game Gear/Saturn titles and keeps them in 4:3 at their original framerates. Is that too much to ask?
To some degree, yes. Because there's always going to be caveats and trade offs for something like that. Collections are usually quick and low budget affairs.
Because your "proper" collection could be:
Sega Genesis ROMs for Sonic 1, 2, 3&K, and Spinball emulated with notable and obvious sound problems, as they typically are 99% of the time.
A new port of Sonic CD based on the old Windows 95 port, with crunchy PCM wav audio and transparency issues (just like Sonic Gems Collection got).
A new port of Sonic R, also based on the Windows port, with the broken colored lighting and ear-piercing ring sound.
A new port of the Sega Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast that also, regrettably, is actually just the PC version, meaning no polygonal half pipe special stage.
Would you be okay if half the included games were full of the same shortcuts Sega often takes with these sorts of things? Because even if they got M2 to fix up the first two with proper, correct emulation, the last two are almost definitely guaranteed to be what we'd get, no matter what.
I'd love to get a really polished version of what you're suggesting, but it feels like it'd be too much effort for Sega to bother with. Too much effort for most people to bother with, really. And with Sonic Origins being so recent, Sega's not going to want to indulge in another Sonic collection of the Genesis games for at least another couple years, maybe more.
Fingers crossed that maybe Digital Eclipse will want to take it on some day.

Any thoughts on the Hyperdimension Neptunia series?
Not really, no. It's emblematic of a certain brand of anime fan I lost touch with. I've heard some of those games aren't terrible, but it's pretty far outside of my wheelhouse, generally. Literally the most I've ever interacted with the series is...
...
Well now I can't even find the image. It was just some picture of one of the characters subtitled with "I've come here to Nep at you."
But no, most of what I know about that game (read: next to nothing) is from that very first game where, like, Keiji Inafune was a summon. That and the fact there was a Neptunia game where they crossed over with Sega Hard Girls, something else I have little-to-no experience with.

Hey, have you seen that episode of Death Battle where the Archie version of Sonic goes up against The Flash?
I haven’t seen that, but I have heard about it
On a related note, what I have seen is the VS Battles Wiki page for Archie’s Sonic, which claims he has godlike power (he is stronger than Goku in his most powered up states) because they take every single thing Sonic ever did in the comics as canon. This includes dozens and dozens of things he only ever did in one panel, including things like those forms Bollers gave him in the issue where Sonic got his Adventure redesign, as well as a bunch of things from the early issues he did as a gag, like fighting his own shadow
As such, in Sonic’s base form alone, his list of powers looks like this
Tumblr media
What’s even better is that if you look up, like... any of Sonic’s friends in the comics? Tails, Sally, Bunnie, fucking Antoine? Any of them? Because all of them have been shown to hold their own against Sonic at one point or another, practically the entire cast of Archie Sonic has been declared as on par with (if not stronger than) Ultra Instinct Goku
I love this stupid wiki

Unrelated to Sonic, but...what are your thoughts on the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies?
I honestly haven’t seen them in years, but they’re good. Very corny, but in an extremely endearing way. The third one is obviously bloated with some odd subplots, but they’re classics. My dad showing me the first was actually what got me into superheroes as a kid
I thought the MCU movies had the chance to surpass them, and I really like Tom Holland as Spider-Man, but I think they’re held back by the fixation with Tony and all the gadgets and stuff. It didn’t bother me so much in Homecoming, which had a lot of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man stuff that I love, and in Far From Home I was like okay, fine, they’ve gotta mourn Tony’s death. But if the third MCU film is still all about Peter being Iron Man Jr. then I’m gonna be disappointed
(The best Spider-Man film, though, is naturally Spiderverse)

Y'know, I've always wondered...why do people find Marine the Raccoon annoying? She doesn't have any voice clips on Sonic Rush Adventure, and I don't recall her ever making another appearance outside of that game.
I don’t dislike Marine, but most of it is probably her extremely over-the-top stereotypical Australian dialogue. Like, here are all of her lines in her very first scene, taken straight from Rush Adventure’s transcript
Aw, and what's this?... Strewth! I think they're dead!
Oh, blimey! You're alive!
Mind yourself, mate! Askin' a sheila's name and you ain't giving your own first...
Cheers! My name's Marine! Burt what's this? I come down here, save your lives, and not even a "thank you"?
Aw, well, she'll be apples. I'm more interested in how you managed to find this island. Crikey! You didn't swim 'ere, did you?
This 'ere's Seagull Beach, near Windmill Village! You got any questions, I'm your gal, mate! After all, nothin' goes on 'round these parts without me knowing about it first, mate! As for Seagull Beach, well, I named it after the heaps of seagulls round 'ere. Ain't it just ripper?
Strewth! You don't even know where Southern Island is? It's in the middle of the ocean!
What? You want to come to my village? Well, then, my house is your house!
It’s a constant barrage of Crocodile Dundee-ass slang. She only eases up in that last line

So, which Sonic Advance game is your favorite? I've only played 1 and 3, myself.
I’m honestly not sure I could say. I think they all have their unique strengths and I like all of them similarly

Hey, what are your thoughts on SNK fighters?
SNK fighting games remind me that I’m still just casual at fighting games. I had a moment of realization a bit ago that I guess I kind of like to play fighting games? I’ve put a decent amount of time in to a few of them. Marvel vs. Capcom 1, Tekken 3, Street Fighter 4, the first Darkstalkers are probably the games I’ve put the most time in to. And, um, Sonic the Fighters. And I guess the SNES version of Killer Instinct. I also curated a moderately sizable MUGEN install at one point in my life.
youtube
But I’m probably right on the edge of “getting it.” I think if I had to describe my skill level, I’m against that very first newbie ceiling, where I grok just the tiniest bit of the so-called “head games.” Normally my playstyle is just “maximum aggression, never stop never stopping.” But the last time I played Street Fighter 4 with my friends (uh, five years ago) I was starting to understand the idea of doing things just to fake my opponent out.
My issue with fighting games is I don’t like execution. I don’t like the idea that, in order to do a move, I have to hit a sequence of four buttons in order to throw a fireball, because inevitably I choke and whiff the input nine out of ten times. It just seems like an arbitrary barrier to entry when players could get to the real meat (head games) by just simplifying the inputs. I know Mortal Kombat does, but Mortal Kombat is its own kettle of fish.
And maybe you know where I’m going with this because most SNK fighters have some of the most complex special move inputs in the biz. I know that’s mainly for supers or whatever, but it’s always felt like the technical aspects of, say, King of Fighters were always a few steps up from your typical Capcom fair. SNK makes you work for your victories a lot harder.
Which is… fine. I was playing a King of Fighters just a few weeks ago with a friend as we tested out Steam’s new Shareplay streaming feature versus input latency in Parsec. But it does mean I’m always a little gun shy when it comes to SNK fighters, and the only one I own is KOF13 on Steam, which I’ve apparently played for all of 28 minutes.
But I do like them and their characters. I’m not super familiar with all of them, but guys like Terry are obviously great. Joe Hishashi. Duck King.
…basically, most characters that showed up in the Fatal Fury motion picture. Hm.
