Adobe Firefly’s generative AI models can now create vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator

  Adobe Illustrator is a widely used vector graphics tool for graphic artists and it’s about to join the generative AI era with the launch of the Firefly Vector Model at Adobe’s MAX conference today. Adobe describes the new model as “the world’s first generative AI model focused on producing vector graphics.” Like Firefly for creating images and photos, Firefly for Illustrator will be able to create entire vector graphics from scratch. And like the other Firefly models, the vector model, too, was trained on data from Adobe Stock.

  In its beta, Illustrator will now let you create entire scenes through a text prompt. What’s nifty here is that those scenes can consist of multiple objects. So this isn’t just a jumble of vectors that make up the overall graphic but Illustrator will automatically generate these different objects and you can manipulate them individually to your heart’s content, just like any other group or layer in Illustrator.

  Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP for generative AI and Sensei, told me the company used tens of millions of vector images in Adobe Stock to train Firefly to enable this new capability. Costin described the process as “a journey” and since there hasn’t been as much work done on using generative AI to create vector drawings compared to the work on creating other images, this surely took a bit more work on the team’s part. He noted that the team focused on creating a model that could generate these images with the fewest possible points, too.

  Another new feature that’s coming to Illustrator is called Mockup, which allows Illustrator users to take any 3D scene and then take any vector art and apply it to that 3D scene. That could be a design for a drink can, for example, or a mockup of a new logo on a t-shirt. “Mockup is really exciting to show your customers the art in context so they understand what they’re buying when they contract you as a freelancer,” Costin explained. Also new is Retype, which converts static text in images to editable text — and it’ll find matching fonts, too — and Illustrator is now available on the web, too!

Adobe Says Its New ‘Firefly’ AI Image Generator Doesn't Steal Other People's Art

Adobe has recently launched its own family of generative AI models named Firefly, which claims to be different from other image generators. Unlike other AI models that use internet data for training, Adobe's Firefly uses images from its stock image site, openly licensed work, and public domain content. Interested users can request access to the beta version of Adobe Firefly, but at the moment, the service is facing issues due to a high volume of requests. The Firefly AI model has your standard text-to-image diffusion AI model, with a few interesting twists. Users can input prompts as usual, and then modify the image according to their preference, such as changing the aspect ratio, lighting, or art style. The most intriguing aspect of this new AI integration is the training data Adobe claims to have used for the model. Adobe said that its current model is "trained on a dataset of Adobe Stock, along with openly licensed work and public domain content where the copyright has expired." Adobe's Vice President of generative AI, Alexandru Costin, explained that their AI system cannot generate content like other brands or intellectual properties because "it has never seen that brand content or trademark." Adobe's FAQ also states that customer content will not be used to train Firefly. However, Adobe's license agreement already permits them to use contributed stock images for Firefly and the company is developing a compensation model for contributors. Adobe has been absent from the AI image debate, even though its Adobe Stock service is one of the most popular stock image services in the market. While Shutterstock has already introduced its own AI image generator based on OpenAI's DALL-E, Adobe seems to be trying to find a balance between not being left out of the AI race and not getting caught up in the debate about training data. Firefly was trained on over 330 million assets from Adobe Stock and millions more from external sources. Compare that to the LAION-5B training set, the data used for Stable Diffusion, which includes over 5.85 billion images and their textual metadata. The AI system Adobe is using is not based on a single source but a selection of systems that analyze the prompt and are then implemented into the diffusion model. Adobe has not revealed which diffusion model it's using, but according to its press release, its system is designed to avoid biased AI images and other harmful content. Adobe plans to expand Firefly's features, including allowing users to work with AI systems directly within its Creative Cloud and Document Cloud software. Users will also be able to create custom vectors, brushes, and textures usable in Adobe's other suites of programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. Future versions of Firefly will use assets and training data from "Adobe and others." Adobe wants to allow customers to personalize and train the AI further with their own branded content. While it remains to be seen how customers will react to this, Adobe is developing a "compensation model" for contributors, but it would only have more details on that approach once Firefly was out of beta. When DeviantArt launched its own AI image generator, the community was widely annoyed that the system made opting into their new images being trained as default. FC Voluntari a învins-o în această seară în deplasare pe Dunărea Călărași cu scorul de 2-1 (1-1), în prima manșă a barajului pentru rămânerea în Liga 1.

Kanda a deschis scorul în minutul 31 cu un lob superb după o minge aruncată în față de Wiktorski. Jefte a restabilit egalitatatea în minutul 41 cu un șut din interiorul careului după ce apărarea gazdelor nu a putut respinge o minge centrată pe jos. Alexandru Vlad a adus victoria ilfovenia în minutul 73 cu o execuție perfectă dintr-o lovitură liberă de la 20 de metri.
