Also some pictures of a resident Steppe bison femur.
"Leg bone from the now extinct large Bison priscus. The hole is where a piece of bone was removed for radio-carbon dating. This bison roamed the Peace River region around 11,000 years ago before being replaced by the ancestors of modern bison coming in from the south."
The musuem pamphlet is 22.8cm/8.9in tall and 10.3cm/4in wide for reference.

Went and saw them today. Didn’t take any pictures inside, I was too busy looking at everything.

Okay very random idea, but would it be worth it to try to extract DNA from buffalo skeletal remains from the 1800’s to clone those buffalo to add genetic diversity to modern buffalo stock in protected areas. Or, would it not be worth it because you wouldn’t be able to know if said cloned buffalo have a strong resistance to modern bovine diseases.
Just saying, if you’re going to clone animals, maybe do it for the purposes of ecosystem revitalization and also reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
I also know really basically nothing about cloning, but if there’s someone wanting to bring back the Dodo, an extinct animal from an island who’s biggest cultural significance is the fact that it’s extinct, then why not shore up the integrity of a species that is trying to rebound from oblivion who had a huge range and was very significant to many, many people and still is today?

Oh yeah, I'm heading to Victoria next week to go see my pal, Sue.
Do you think I can get an autograph? Or an autoscratch via claws?

These are all the books that are palaeontology based that I have, laid out in the order I got them. Not all of these are scientifically up to date because they are older but some of them are very new.
I haven’t finished The Dinosaur Hunters yet, but once I am I will start on The Rise and Reign of Mammals. If it’s anything like it’s predecessor, I’ll have to read it three times for it to stick in my brain (it’s a bit thicker too so maybe four times.)

So, on Global BC on the six o'clock news they had the things about the new paper on lippy t-rex because it involved someone from a BC university. And.... They are like, here are other BC dinosaurs! And, rather than the footprints none were actually dinosaurs.
There was Elasmosaurus, a mosasaur and one that I only saw for a second so it either looked like a lystrosaurus type or protoceratops type.
ANYWAYS, I was sitting there like "THOSE AREN'T DINOSAURS!" Sigh.

Any particularly interesting palaeo discoveries lately? I’ve been undergoing pain treatments, so any short-ish articles (even from the past three years, since I haven’t been keeping up as up with stuff) that anyone wants to link or anything?
I am an autism™️, so I go really into different things and sort of forget to moderate my interests 🤷‍♂️

Hey did you hear about the allosaurus that died because a stegosaurus stabbed it in the crotch?
http://westerndigs.org/allosaurus-died-from-stegosaur-spike-to-the-crotch-wyoming-fossil-shows/
Well, in all fairness, theropods did have rather rather prominent pelvic bones.
Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if I died getting stabbed in the pubic bones with a thagomizer.
And also, from the link:
“The scientists also noted that the strike was delivered with great force from below, an angle that could have been exploited most easily by Stegosaurus, which brandished its spiky tail not by swinging it from side to side, they say, but by jabbing it like a sword.”
Like… OW….

It interesting to think about how different movements of different groups of people made the world today. Also how the physical environment has shaped how people look in different places. But it’s also still quite mysterious. Idk I’m rambling.
