Inspo: Deftones - Change (In The House of Flies)
Pairing: Samantha Carpenter x Male!reader
Summary: There were no ends you would cross if it meant protecting what you had...
Tumblr media
Warnings: Angst, sprinkled fluff if you squint hard enough, and some pretty descriptive gore and torture (read at your own caution)
Words: 1940
DNI IF YOU’RE YOU’RE YOUNGER THAN 18 AND CAN’T HANDLE VERY DESCRIPTIVE GORE!
“Richie…” The sing-song tone of the man’s name stirred him awake. Laboured breaths fell from his lips. His eyes searched for some stability of focus with a single light above him illuminating the ground around him about a foot. “Time to wake up, fucker.”
The killer stared into the endless darkness that began around the foot perimeter of light given to him. He could hear the scuffing of shoes, he believed, but he couldn’t see who was responsible for the sound. “Who the fuck are you?” Richie exclaimed. “You ruined my favourite part of the movie, you fuck!”
Behind him, you slowly stepped out of the darkness. White wife beater and blue latex gloves over your hands. In one hand, you held a snow globe and a knife in the other. And without the miss of a beat, you brought the snow globe and smashed Richie in the back of the head. The impact was enough to make Richie not let out a yell or cry, only a grunt as his head fell forward, eyes blinking rapidly as he tried to process the hit.
“You think this is a fucking joke, but this is far from it.” Moving around the killer, you stood in front of the man, crouching down and finding his gaze. It disgusted you that this man was near your sister-in-law. How close and how manipulative he was to Tara to just fulfill his dream of a slasher movie or reality. “You held a gun to my wife’s head. You attacked my sister-in-law, and for that, you gotta pay.”
Richie was in a daze, able to feel the trickle of blood running down his neck with the rest soaking up in his hair. “Where’s Amber?” He questioned and you could nearly laugh in amazement at this psycho’s care for his girlfriend that was just as crazy as him. They were two peas in a pod of fucking crazy and in some way, you respected it.
“Tara killed her,” you answered. “Seeing your girlfriend burnt to a crisp and a bullet in her head was one of the most appealing things I think I’ve ever seen.” You grabbed his chin, forcing him to meet your gaze. “When you fucked with the Carpenters, you fucked with me.”
The man grounded his teeth together as you backed up and stepped to the workbench. Looking down at all the items you had gathered to use for this torture. Samantha had begged you not to do it, but when it came to her or her sister being hurt, there was very little that could pull you away from getting revenge.
Grabbing the Torque Wrench, you gently lowered one end into your other hand and sighed. Seeing the contemplation on your face made Richie’s eyes widen as he grasped onto words. “Hey, man. I get it, alright? I promise I won’t ever come back again. I’ll fucking skip town and you’ll never see me again,” he begged. “Please, man.”
Ignoring his words, you turned to the man with a scowl. Eyes narrowed deeply with a darkened look in your iris’. “If there is one thing I’ve learned from slasher movies is that the killer is always going to try and manipulate to get what they want,” you explained. “Come back and get revenge for the ones that bested him. But, Richie, this isn’t a movie. And you, my friend, are going to experience what a true killer is.”
And before he could get any more out, you brought the torque wrench down onto his shins, shattering them. His screams are the last thing you heard before allowing yourself to fall into a limbo of rage.

No call...
Nothing…
Samantha had given you nothing for days when she went back home to see Tara when she was put in the hospital by a killer. Leaving you in your apartment, contemplating what to do with yourself. At first, you did what you did every day and that was work. Being a part of a Biker Club took time away from Samantha, but it brought in the cash needed to keep the both of you well above “afloat”. But with time passing and the lesser texts and call you got from Sam, the higher your anxiety got.
You wouldn’t consider yourself an impulsive person after Sam came into your life. But when she was gone and made no attempt or couldn’t make a chance for communication, your brain switched back to its old ways. And seeing the news about the ghostface killer back and causing terror in your fiance’s hometown, you couldn’t stand by.
The least you expected tracking your girlfriend down was to find Richie, Samantha’s ex, standing over her with a gun in hand. Ready to kill her at the drop of a pin. But when you came through the door, grabbing everyone’s attention, it left Richie in a moment of shock. He knew you. He’d seen the pictures of you on Samantha’s Instagram and hadn’t expected you to Woodsboro.
And his momentary shock left the perfect opening for you to run at him and tackle him to the ground. Punching him ruthlessly until there was a bloody splatter on the hardwood floor. Standing to your feet, you ran a gloved hand through your hair, chest rising and falling as you stared down at the bloody and bruised man that lay unconscious.
“Y/n.” The quivering and quiet voice made you lift your head, turning to find Samantha seated against the wall, eyes wide and surprised by your arrival. Glancing at Richie and back at the girl, you moved toward her. Seeing you here, it brought on a set of tears in the girl’s eyes as she reached out for you desperately. Praying to God that this wasn’t just her seeing a fantasy and that it was actually real. Not her mind playing tricks on her to ease the fear of death.
But when your gloved hands held her arms, she let out a sob. Hands balling up a handful of your leather jacket, logo stitched into the back with her face pressing into the sweater that you wore underneath. It was like a warm heavy blanket was placed on her. Providing nothing but warmth and comfort–something she’d been needing the past few hours of constant life or death.
“Your okay,” your soft timbre voice told her, breaking through her thoughts. “I’m here. No one’s going to hurt you, baby.”
Samantha choked on a sob, unable to shake the residue of fear in her heart. Leaving tremors to be felt throughout her body that rested in your hold. “Are you real?” She wept softly, sniffling harshly.
You pulled her closer, looking over your shoulder at Richie’s body and clenching your jaw. “I’m real, Sam.”
Tumblr media
“Hey!” Richie’s head snapped up with a gasp, whimpers falling from his lips as the pain corrupted his body and mind. Wrists a crimson from the constant thrashing of his limbs, trying to break free and run from the infliction you were placed upon him. But with each minute, each hour that passed, he felt the hope slowly fade away. You slapped his cheek, smiling at the destroyed and broken features the man wore. “Stay awake for me,” you whispered softly, with the edge of your words becoming more deciphered as a demand. “We aren’t done yet.”
“Just…” Richie choked on his words, turning his head enough to spit out blood that gathered at the back of his through. Barely having enough energy to stay awake, the stream of blood and spit hung from his parted lips, landing on his shoulder. “Just kill me already.”
Backing away, you scoffed and moved to the workbench. Each item has some splash of Richie’s blood on them. The pliers for pulling some of his teeth and nails out. Kitchen knife to slice at his flesh and make the shivers run down his body from the breaks of blood that seeped out of his skin. Other garage tools just broke his legs to the point they were irreversibly damaged. Only leaving the Glock 22, your weapon from home, and you’re bowie knife.
Slowly, placing a finger on the face of the blade, you dragged the digit along the blade, following the pristine curve before you grabbed it by the handle. “I wanted this to be much slower,” you began. “Much smarter. But this is going to have to do.” Turning to the man, you slowly approached him with one of those sinister looks in your eyes. “I wanted to take Amber and torture her right in front of you. Pull her eyes from their sockets and make you eat them. But since she’s dead and I’ve done about everything I can to hurt you, now, killing you is the last thing I can do.”
Crouching in front of the man, your nostrils flared in anger, lips twitching into a grin. “But this is going to be the most painful and horrifying minute of your life.” Richie couldn’t get a grasp of what you were saying before you stabbed the knife into his side. Your nose twisted in distaste as you slowly began to drag the blade across his stomach. A sizable wound was created once you reached the other side, twisting the knife before letting go and shoving your hand into his stomach. The gasps and choked screams that fell from the man formed into choking noses when you used one of the intestines and wrapped it around his neck. Pulling, pulling, and pulling until Richie’s last breath could be heard in the quiet basement.
Allowing the intestine to fall from your latex hands, you puff out air ruthlessly. Tilting your head slightly as you stared down at Richie’s body. Lifting your hand, you stared at it. No shake. No tremble. Just stillness. A sense of balance in mind even though you had just committed a terrible act against someone.
Although it was a lot to think about, you unfolded a tarp and laid it out in front of the chair Richie was restrained to. Cutting the rope binding his wrists and ankles, the man’s body simply fell forward with a thud. Rolling up the tarp over and around his body, you tied off the ends with rope and lifted his body over your shoulder.
Coming upstairs, the hours had passed and settled into the late hours of the night. Giving you a further sense of calm when you walked outside and tossed the body into the bed of your truck. Grabbing the cover and rolling it across to hide the body till tomorrow when you would find somewhere secluded to hide the body.
Getting cleaned up, you came upstairs and quietly entered your bedroom. Slipping on a pair of shorts before lifting the covers and sliding into bed. Laying on your back, eyes fixated on the ceiling intently. You wouldn’t be haunted by what you did tonight. You’d done almost the exact same for your club and this wouldn’t be the end of the violence you cause on the deserving or undeserving. No, tonight was your chance to do a deed for the people of Woodsboro, and for your future wife.
“Is it done?” The gentle voice belonging to Samantha shook you from your thoughts. Looking to the woman that had her back to you. Cautiously, you weaselled yourself closer before sprawling a hand over her waist and pulling her gently against your chest. Face stuffing itself in her hair where you inhaled the beautiful scent of her coconut shampoo and conditioner.
“He isn’t going to hurt you or Tara anymore.”

Heard also lost because her legal team could not catch a break. They did not succeed in moving the case from Virginia, where Depp filed suit and where the Post’s servers are situated, to California, where Depp and Heard reside, where much of their relationship unfolded, and where legal protections (known as anti-slapp laws) for people who speak up on matters of public interest—such as preventing domestic violence—are significantly stronger than in Virginia. They could not get the case dismissed after the High Court in London, in 2020, ruled against Depp in his libel claim against the tabloid the Sun, which called him a “wife beater”; the judge in that case found that twelve of Heard’s fourteen abuse accusations as presented in court were proven to be “substantially true.” They could not exclude from the jury pool a man who read out the following text from his wife: “Amber is psychotic. If a man says a woman beat him, they never believe him.” They could not present evidence in Heard’s favor that the judge, Penney Azcarate, ruled out as hearsay, including testimony from seven medical professionals that Heard had reported contemporaneous episodes of abuse to them and a series of text messages from one of Depp’s employees, Stephen Deuters, in which Deuters appears to acknowledge that Depp physically harmed Heard on an airplane. (“When I told him he kicked you, he cried.”)
But the two most crucial strikes against Heard may have been that Azcarate permitted cameras in the courtroom and did not sequester the jury—a perfect one-two for Depp’s online brand of asymmetrical warfare. Trials are not often live-streamed in Virginia; that one centered on allegations of domestic abuse, including sexual assault, was televised is downright shocking. (Certain passages of Heard’s testimony in the U.K. case were kept confidential even in the final ruling; in the U.S., those details, as recounted by Heard in Virginia, were made available on YouTube in perpetuity.) The trial’s live stream provided hours of raw material for the fancams, TikTok lip-synchs, and cheapo animations that the pro-Depp legions used to saturate every corner of digital space. “Remember tonight do not do any outside research,” Azcarate would often admonish the jury when they took a break, revealing a naïveté about the inexorable seepage of the #JusticeForJohnny movement into every social-media feed. To “research” the case only required glancing at TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, or Instagram, where Heard was cast as the delusional harpy and Depp as the lovable rogue. (As Amanda Hess wrote, in the Times, “I did not follow the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard—it followed me.”)
Was rereading the New Yorker article about the verdict and got angry all over again.

You are so real and right actually. This is why I’d get so fucking frustrated everytime I see someone going, “Well, men get raped too!!”. Yeah… But every single time a man does open up about getting raped most of the comments will either be saying something about how “lucky” he is or asking where the woman was when they were younger… All of which are comments made by men. It’s actually so fucking sad that the only times people mention men getting abused is when they use it as sort of like a gotcha to feminism.
Like there are women who will dismiss a male rape victim and that is disgusting and vile. But that handful of women who may or may not even call themselves feminists is treated like it's a tenet of the Church of Feminism that ALL feminists think is true.
The majority of ridicule about male rape comes from men, simple as. The majority of ridicule, disbelief, and cruelty about women being raped comes from men. And yeah, the majority of rapes are perpetrated by men. Simple as. I understand feminists that get so fatigued from having to fight for women's rights, from women being expected to take on every problem in society requiring an emotional load, telling men who use male rape victims as a gotcha to just fuck off and die. It isn't women's job to teach disgusting men how to collectively develop sympathy for their own gender, much less for women victimized by other men. Men who dismiss rape like that are imo a lost cause and don't deserve the patience or emotional labor to futilely try to explain sympathy and empathy to them.
And again, I appreciate artists who try to incorporate male victims into their work. Most of them really try to do something good (except Grant Morrison retconning Batman as being raped by Talia. That was stupid on every level and was edge for the sake of edge like everything else he's ever fucking written)
I think the reason Kentaro Miura's depiction of Griffith and Guts as rape victims doesn't get this same level of ridicule from male readers is because they were both assaulted as children. If they were both assaulted as adult men, I think more male troglodyte fans would joke about it like they do Mark from Invincible and Nightwing from DC. I jokingly call Nightwing a whore for two-timing Barbara and Starfire in one run, but I will NEVER ridicule him for being raped by Tarantula.
I've also seen men praise Mark's depiction showing his rapist not dealing with any consequences of raping him, because it accurately shows how female rapists are never held accountable for their crimes (unlike male rapists and men accused of rape, who always totally definitely get held accountable). They hail it as an accurate depiction of "female privilege." How many rape cases perpetrated by men make it to court? How many involve jail time that lasts more than a few years at most? How many men have people like you rushing to their defense when a woman "cries rape" because you defer to his claims over a woman who is totally lying and just being vindictive? Does your idea of "facing justice" just equate to how many people on social media criticize and talk negatively about a man accused of rape? Men accused of rape rarely have their lives and careers ruined: take the most recent high profile case of Johnny Depp, accused wife beater and rapist. Regardless of your opinion on if his account of things is true: He was never taken to criminal court, he won multiple cases against Amber Heard, she wound up owing him money in court fees and settlements, he has thousands of fans who stood by him, he has friends in the industry like Jason Momoa who will prank his ex-girlfriend by dressing up as Depp to fuck with her on set, and he still has roles in the industry rolling in. How was his life ruined and career destroyed, exactly? Did he get as many random people posting about wanting to rape and kill him, like people did Amber Heard the instant she started going public? Did strip clubs make "Hey Johnny, we're hiring!" billboards after the settlement like they did for her? But people still insist that Depp was absolutely ruined by false allegations and is just as much a victim of MeToo as the women raped by Harvey Weinstein.
It isn't a female privilege that men emasculate male rape victims and refuse to believe that what they view as the "weaker sex" can rape a man. It's a side effect of patriarchy that hurts men, but that men collectively refuse to care about because patriarchy is too beneficial to them as a whole to fix.
And I'm saying this as someone who really hates the notion that men should care about feminism ONLY because patriarchy sometimes hurts them. You don't see racial activist groups appealing to white people by saying "Well, racism ACTUALLY hurts white people too! So that's why you should care about it!" Or LGBT+ groups appealing to straight people by saying that homophobia negatively affects straight people (What if your straight son who likes ballet was ridiculed bc he was perceived as gay? Even though he's one of the normals! See, it benefits you too to dismantle homophobia!)
Sometimes dismantling an oppressive system benefiting Group A at the expense of Group B means that Group A doesn't benefit at all from dismantling the system. But that shouldn't matter, because something shouldn't benefit you personally for you to support it. It's not our fault that a large portion of men can't take male rape seriously, especially since they're not going to listen to women calmly trying to explain to them how empathy and sympathy work. It's not our fault that these men use male rape victims as a punchline one minute and then as a shield in arguments with feminist harpies the next minute.

I was just remembering how hard I tried not to get involved in this case. I had read some news in 2018 and did not understand why people sided with him and loved him despite the messages and that it was proven that he abused her in the UK. The reason I'm here now is because my mom has tiktok and she showed me "Amber Heard citing a movie in her testimonial". She showed me about the makeup kit and why she was lying. "We have to support Johnny Depp" she told me and my sister. We didn't believe it for a moment. No man who jokes about r4piing his girlfriend's corpse deserves my support. I told myself what everyone says can't be true. It's too stupid. My limit was seeing my mother falling for this, showing me a tiktok of someone making fun of her testimony and imitating her. I said enough. I did my research in a non-biased way. After all, even if it's not like that now, he was my childhood crush. I've seen a lot of his movies. I contributed to his millionaire fortune. I respected him. None of this changed the fact that he was undeniably an abuser. It didn't take me long to connect the dots. Proven in the UK that if he's a wife beater, problematic past, aggression, misogyny, racism, homophobia, equally problematic circle of friends, like 30 years older than her, she's surrounded by his staff throughout their relationship. And in the op she didn't even mention his name. But it didn't make sense for everyone to be against her, I felt like I was crazy. I told my sister: well it seems that we are the only ones. I mean, I knew everyone hates women, I didn't think it would be to this extent. The feminist pages that I followed didn't talk about this, celebrities supporting him. Johnny Depp’s exes saying that because he didn't abused them she must be lying. A disinformation mess. I argued with so many people and they all repeated the same bullshit. The evidence was there and still he won. And everyone thinks THAT made the world a better place. I can’t believe it.
(Someone said there were terfs on my post so if you're terf fuck off.)

MY BAD I meant to send that to your art account where you actually talked about the TADC thing. my bad
Tumblr media
Don’t worry you’re fine! I don’t mind answering your question at all :) sorry about the late response
Prefacing by saying that this really isn’t meant to be a callout post or anything like that, just an explanation. What I’m taking about happened about a year ago, so it’s very possible that she already changed her viewpoint on the situation as of right now. I’d just rather not risk it for the sake of my own comfort until I get confirmation.
To put it very simply, Gooseworx made a pretty poor taste tweet joking about the whole Amber Heard & Johnny Depp trial situation:
Tumblr media
[link to tweet here]
When this case was at the height of its popularity I generally tried to steer clear of any information surrounding it since I found the way everyone was acting very weird. Luckily, Rebecca Watson has an exceptionally well done video about the case on her channel that helped fill in the gaps for me.
What I’m hoping the case is here is that she wasn’t properly informed on the situation at the time. There was a flurry of misogyny and ableism laced misinfo surrounding the trial, so her having fallen victim to that and supporting Depp as a consequence is very possible.
The fact of the matter is, however, that Depp was the main perpetrator of abuse in his and Heard’s relationship; the initial ruling and three appeals of the defamation case held up that 12 out of the 14 claims of domestic abuse that Heard faced were properly substantiated and that journalists were justified in labeling him a ‘wife-beater.’ Amber did admit to hitting him and saying he wouldn’t be believed in court if he brought it up due to him being a man (which is definitely not a viewpoint I support) but viewed in context with what was previously stated, we can see that her actions were primarily retaliation in response to the abuse she had been receiving. Being a victim of abuse myself I can say firsthand that, while I never physically retaliated against my abusers, receiving their abuse definitely led me to having many unsavory and resentment driven thoughts against them for how they treated me.
Being abused can lead victims to do and think and say many less than moral things, but that retaliation does not immediately somehow make the victims just as bad as their perpetrators (or god forbid worse, as most interpreted it as in this trial). Just because Heard wasn’t a ‘perfect victim’ and didn’t merely sit down and take Depp’s abuse the whole time doesn’t make her the ‘evil attention-seeking manipulator’ everyone painted her out to be. Gooseworx’s tweet playing into this narrative and ignoring all the wrong Depp had done to this woman in favor of mocking her for jokes just perpetuates this idea that the only abuse victims ever worth listening to or taking seriously are the ones that don’t fight back. I’m not a fan of that idea, so I don’t feel comfortable interacting with nor supporting her content anymore.
Hope this helped answer your question.

You’re right, kind of. It doesn’t mean that the 3 other independent judges rulings, that found him to be a wife beater are overturned though. Just that these 7 people who had access to social media through the trial whilst there was a huge smear campaign going on against her ruled this way.
They literally polled to find the place he was most likely to win that’s why they chose Virginia rather than California lol
Also how do you think they found her claim of speaking up against sexual violence to be deformation with malice against JD when she never spoke about him sexually assaulting her till 2 years after the article was published.
This whole thing is a mess.
If you're talking about the Sun Trail in the UK and the appeals, the more I look into that trail the more of a sham I think it is. It was all hush-hush behind closed doors, they barely let Depp speak/provide evidence. and the initial judge has been found that her son works for TalkRadio (a sister company of The Sun, ya know, the people getting sued she ruled in favor of). Also the trail didn't "prove he was a wife-beater" it said that the Sun "was allowed to call him a wife-beater"
2. As for the jury and social media, neither of us can say they did or didn't check social media behind closed doors, we're not omnipotent. But allow me to argue that it doesn't really matter if they did or didn't, because of that smear campaign you're talking about? Guess who entered the entire thing into evidence and served it to the jury on a silver platter? Amber Heard. She literally presented the smear campaign and all the support for Johnny Depp and rage against herself to the jury in the court. So if they were affected by that, it's nobody's fault but her and her teams.
3. I mean... Yeah??? Of course, they would go to the state they were most likely to win? That's just good lawyering??? They're not trying to lose their case lol, if they have better odds in Virginia then obviously they'd go there. This isn't some kinda gotcha it's just being smart??????????
4. It doesn't matter when she did or when she didn't claim it, she claimed it in the end. They decided it was false, and that means it's defamation. They decided she did it with the intent to harm him and his career, and that means it has malice. I could claim some dude did the same thing to me 20 years ago to his boss and that man would have the same grounds Johnny did in this case.
And finally something we can agree on, this whole this is a total mess.

Yes deceptive editing is illegal. That's why Adam Waldman was kicked off of the case. He also refused to testify about any of his illegal behavior citing attorney client privilege.
People care because of the larger social implications, right. Some people like you view it as so obviously that she's a lying abusive gold digger you would have to be deranged about thinking men can't be abused. Some people think it's one of the most well documented public cases of abuse and are highly disturbed about the way Depp was able to spin the case, use abusive litigation to keep pushing her into court, even after being legally declared a wife beater in his UK case, all because he did illegally leak edited information before the trial to prejudice public opinion and then the judge made the horrific decision to live broadcast rape testimony.
Obviously the reason we all care not because it's someone's favorite rich celebrity (especially Amber Heard was a B list celebrity AT BEST - no one who takes her side is really doing it as a stan). For me, because I have read hundreds of pages of court documents, it's also about how we (and he) treat bisexual women. He admitted to defacing paintings from her ex wife and was jealous of how much they interacted. There's witness testimony of the way he acted when she was around other women. Constant slut shaming and even calling her slurs in text (he justified this in court by saying homophobia wasn't bad in 2014).
You seem like you don't have an in-depth grasp of the facts of the case, which is fine, and you don't have to, but if that's the case you shouldn't judge other people for thinking she's the real abuse victim. You can't assume someone is an unsafe person if you don't know much about what happened. Again I'm fine with coming off anon and sending you links or answering questions if you do care, but it's completely fine if you'd rather not waste your time on rich celebrity drama - just don't lose good mutuals over it if you've decided not to look further into it
Hi again nonny! I have two related things to talk about so I’m splitting this into sections. Thanks for being so civil and I apologize if anything I say comes off as attacking or anything like that in the personal section, I just have a lot of feelings if that makes sense.
Explaining my position:
I’ll just show you the screenshot
Tumblr media
The reason this makes me wary is because of how demeaning it is.
It turns “I believe this man is a victim of abuse by a woman and I want to show my support because I know how fucking hard it is for abused men to be believed or get any type of support whatsoever” into “uwu captain Jack sparrow is blameless :)”
I’m taking this the way I am because it perfectly mirrors my experience. For reference, I am a trans man. I was taken SO much more seriously when I was viewed as a battered woman. As soon as I transitioned it turned into “you wanted it” and “women can’t hurt men because men always have the power” I was thirteen and entirely oblivious to sex, she was 16 and I trusted her even when she made me commit literal crimes because SHE had the power in that scenario.
With AH/JD it’s different obviously because he’s older and has more connections.
My problem is not with either of them, nor either side’s supporters, it’s the fact that the people on heard’s side 9 times out of 10 are echoing the sentiment that pushed me into fucking hiding, forced me to pretend I wasn’t hurt, and convinced me it was all my fault because I wanted it.
It’s not the cause they’re supporting, as a survivor I support my peers to the best of my ability, loudly and proudly when appropriate, it’s the WAY they’re doing it.
You cannot claim to support victims whilst also making fun of them — this applies to both sides!!! I HATED all the memes about “my dog stepped on a bee” and the way people laughed at AHs description of violent rape by Depp. I also hate it when AH supporters say things like the post above or claim that AH is incapable of being at fault because Depp has more power.
Depp’s struggle with addiction was also cited as if that automatically makes him abusive. My entire family are addicts and I PROMISE YOU that had nothing to do with the horrible shit they did to me. Most addicts are struggling with underlying conditions, but being a drug addict or being mentally ill does NOT make someone an abuser. Can drugs make abuse worse? Absolutely! But the way many of Heard’s supporters just stopped at “he’s a drug addict so he’s an abuser” just doesn’t sit right with me.
As for my knowledge of the case, I watched Observe’s series on it — he’s the pseudo science behavior guy that was later proven to be abusive as FUCK which is why as soon as I learned that I re-examined the opinions I took on from him — but not much else.
To reiterate again, I’m not on either side, my problem isn’t that the person is supporting amber heard, it’s the way in which they’re doing it. Sort of like how it’s perfectly normal to like pepperoni pizza but it’s weird to say that pepperoni is better because big pineapple is a liar.
TL;DR, my problem isn’t with neither heard nor depp, it’s with the way the people that still talk about it (cannot stress this enough: on both sides!!!) approach abuse.
I would be saying exactly the same thing if they wrote that post but supporting Depp instead
——————————
Additional commentary:
On Depp’s side, I find it suspicious that he was regularly referred to as “Johnny” by his witnesses and supporting counsel. This is a common way to infantilise them. Kids are innocent, so by making depp sound like a kid you’re more likely to sympathize with him. Heard never had any of that.
As an autistic person looking back on the things that Observe put out about the case I can tell I was originally swayed by his rhetoric. He says that for autistic people he would establish a baseline and then the regular body language analysis would work on them. As an autistic person who has been accused of lying on numerous occasions simply for not making eye contact, or flinching at unrelated negative stimuli, that’s total bullshit.
You cannot tell whether someone is lying by the way they act alone.
We’ve seen time and time again that there are no consequences for the rich, those with money and connections, and it’s very possible that that’s what happened here.
I doubt that this case will ever truly come to justice regardless of who was the “actual” victim because that’s just how our society treats abuse. We turn it into tribalism. Team Johnny, team Amber. We will likely never sway the opinions of those who decided early on who was in the right.
I’m not trying to say I’m the pinochle of objectivity or anything here though please don’t take it like that 😭
The more I hear about this the more I reconsider my opinion. At the moment I don’t know who was “right.” But again, for the millionth time just to make sure I’m really driving this home:
It’s the wording, I would be having the same exact reaction if they made this post in favor of depp
