User-generated content submission to the "Queerbook 2024" book jam. (Realized too late I am not legible for it due to being 25 years old of age now and not living within the bounds of the 'US of A' but yk, still gonna try my hand at it and see where it leads)

Feel free to prove me right or wrong as you wish, but do so constructively please. Thank you.

And before somebody asks, yes I like to count a couple things with hexadecimal, octal and senary number systems even for titles and the like, at least as one more mean to customize the linguistics involved when I get to communicate with myself and other people. First part of the short story by itself

ZHE START (often implicit granted but I really like to mess about the conventions and rules as to make them my own and keep them flexible enough for others to re-use... )

As she navigates the ocean of clades, lady Kér was sitting just by the super-mall's entrance. Coming from the subway, she took her time on the side bench as to text both of her parents that she arrived and was faring all well and good from her commute to the bigger city. Awaiting patiently on the side for a friend of hers, she observed other people some with vague curiosity & distracted attention.

And then as she saw her friend, one amongst a couple more in her social tribe, coming just around the corner calling our autistic erudite by her first name, Kate.

Vera Hervaga: Long time no see Kate! How are things going along for you sweetie? Kate Kér: I was about to ask you the exact same Vera, but sure. I am going about nicely. Still seeking my way into a job but each of my projects is progressing along steady and fast. How about you? And how is Idefix? Vera Hervaga: Oh, he is currently with Tekla at the veterinarian clinic, just a simple health check for him, nothing serious really. As for myself, I am doing great albeit I had next to no time to spend with you the other week, sorry about such. However, I was about to ask you if I could join one of your tabletop roleplaying game... things. I don't really know much about this game genre and did not research the details, but knowing you I felt safe as you would... like, introduce me to such. Only if you can, of course. Kate Kér: Oh ok, fantastic. Yes I can, got plenty of free time on my hands as of late. And I am more than happy to introduce you to such games, no questions asked. I would go sail the seven seas, figuratively, for friends like you Vera. And yeah, it is all nice and fair here, especially because I wanted to take a look at a few specific shops today. Don't mind if we do? Vera Hervaga: Yes Kate, I would be happy to follow suit. Kate Kér: Great! You tell me if you need anything from me, specific or not? Vera Hervaga: Sure thing, I will tell you when I have any mighty need you can help me with.

And therefore, as they went walking to go shopping some, Kate felt a grandiose emotion occupying her heart gently, one of euphoria & joy, both of gender, shape and social context. And because she is very well aware of our reality compared of hers and to some farther key planets in the galaxy ahead, she thought of her endless gratitude for the scale of existence, the way she was gifted of so much abundance and how she is living by in such a comforting world system early-on in its history... And still, she thought with her own blend of nihilistic optimism that even our reality has plenty of wonders and marvels to be unraveled and explored by every sapient-kind individuals in the wide vector array of time. And that is worth being curious and caring over, despite all the pain and failures we come across on the way to success.

ALSO ALSO ALSOO okay this is the thing i got tht im most excited abt i j didnt wanna like get to distracted talking abt it nd then forget all the other stuff FDGHDFHD but like !! we went to a bookstore at some point nd idk if any of my cousins got anything (tbh i think we all spent a lot of out time lamenting abt how we all wanted to get heartstopper but cldnt bc our parents wldnt let us if they saw it <//3 speaking of i need 2 watch tht show at some point ik its not the big new show anymore but iv heard its cute sm when it was so !!!) nd like my sibling got a book tht was like. an offcial diney book tht was like a retelling of beaty nd the beast were bells mother was the one tht cursed the beat? tbh i cldnt telll much abt it nd im supried tht thts like. an offical diney tihng but it does seem pretty cool nd i like wasnt meaning to get anything at first but i got this book called no big deal nd like at first i was like "oh i rly want this but idk if i shld get it :((" bc it was abt a fat protagonist nd like her dealing w body issues nd learning 2 be confident w her body nd stuff nd i didnt know how my mum wld react if she saw i bought it esp rn but its less of huge issue if it ended up like on my bookshelf or anything than if like tht happened w heatstopper nd i didnt have to tell her i got it if i just hid it in my bag when i got home so i bought it !!! one thing abt it tht i like i tihnk in my excitment didnt fully read on the blurb at first was tht it has like a romance which at first i was like "okay im prob gonna find those bits kinda annyoing but itll be fine" bc i feel kinda like ehh on wether ill enjoy a romance in smth or j find it annoying but i didnt im finding it rly cute so far !! tho like its more currently tht she just hasa crush on this guy but i still think its rly cute nd tbh like. okay i feel kinda dumb for being as into this book as much as i am nd for reading it like as soon as we had the chance to sit down somewere when we bought it bc i told myself tht like i was gonna have shadow and bone as the first book id read to get back into reading and like i think bc its a y/a romance (i wldnt even says its j abt the romance tho id the thing but it still is technically ig) i feel dumb abt reading it b4 shadow and bonei think bc i shld prob unfollow some ppl online bc i feel like theres tht attitude a lot on here thts like "y/a romance is STUPID nd ur only smart if u ready books tht are INTELLECTUAL and if u dont nd read y/a u shld be made fun of relentleslly!!!!1!!1!!" but i just realsied how stupid tht is bc like. its a y/a novel. its my age range. like im literally the same age as the protag so why wld its be dumb for me to read the book (also in general tht attitude is stupid nd i hate how needelssly judgy ppl are abt ppl just like. liking shit yk -_-) but ya im rly enjoying the book sm so far like ive been reading it sm today nd honestly thts like. what im like whenever i read even tho i havent been reading as much recently i still feel like whenever i do im reading the book every moment i can yk which i used to do a LOT when i was younger nd i was more into reading (but better this time bc im not reading h*rry p*tter FGFDFHD) (but also i was like tht both times i read the hunger games. man i need to reread those. ok im getting oftopic FDGDFHGDF) but ya the book is v v good so far i think im enjoying it a lot nd ya :] also i do think i rly wanna get back into reading after this i tihnk i will.. ya<3

So just finished ‘happy birthday,you’ (yes obvs It’s amazing) and I’m there writing my lil review i do in my notes for all the wolfstar fics I read(and omg let me tell you I did that ao3 wrapped and I actually read 780 fics this year, I’m still contemplating whether to either be extremely proud or kinda maybe a lil bit embarrassed?) anyway so was doing this and thought it would be nice if you could see what I wrote about your fics as yes I’ve read all 5(omg but haven’t done a review on lock it down as ywah didn’t but know I read it )so yeah omg and even tho I am in my second year of an English literature degree I do write as I talk and I talk with my sweet ass adhd brain who has big fat dyslexia n yes am I the age of 20 where I deeply struggle on how to punctuate so when you read them and this I suppose keep that in mind okay good had to put that in there so Brain didn’t go over board with worry bout me now going to overshare. Btw thwse r all on my top wolfstar fics and I think 21/780 is pretty good Baso the 21 are my fav fics and ur 5(well 4 but we already established that) are in that list

Right cool “Ever thus” was the first one I read, this is what I said straight after I finished it - Ever thus - just such a good fic man LIKE MAJOR PINING but omg worth it ! And lime the friend group dynamic is so good ! And omg how they go pub all the time love it just so British and omg the roommates and best friends thing was DONE PERFECTLY like omg the banter aswell just love this fic sm ! 10/10⭐️’

Next I definitely clicked on ur profile to look for ur other works well that’s actually a lie I did it half way through reading ever thus to check you had more as wow ur writing style? So fuckin unique. So here’s JWTDO- ‘Just what the doctor ordered - urm hello THIS IS THE BEST WOLFSTAR NON HP AU IVE READ omg I CANT GET OVER IT ! ITS SO JUST BEAUTIFUL! Like we’ve got sexy older Remus and omg the depth of these characters! ‘Wrapped up ‘ is seriously my favourite wolfstar writer to date ! I lobe how this flows abs yes they finally propose omg injust want hours long of this fic ! It’s so funny aswell lime ahhhhh ! 10/10 SO FUCKIMG GOOD and how they get back together aswell oh man so good⭐️’

Next one is ‘the players secret’ man I loved this fic lime It would make me so excited like I would be at work see this notification from ao3 that you updated it and just squeal inside( also this is gibberish what I say next be warned) - ‘The players secret- Another work by wrapped up and I’m so excited!!! Story seems. So good so far and I just lobe how they write ! Omg hust finished it it was amazing I love their chemistry! Omg you literally don’t find out what the world thinks of the documentary I kinda like how she ended it as Cant really do more with it like it’s a fic bout new documentary abs when that’s relased what more can you do Yk so yes ending left me satisfied 10/10 ⭐️⭐️’

The group that had captured Az kept coming back throughout the day with other bound creatures, none of them sentient, like him, not that they seemed to have noticed the difference. The one time he tried to speak to them, the large man with the sword who had carried him here pounded at the top of the bars, unspeaking, and Az had cowered away from him, knowing a threat when he heard one.

When they came back with a rust monster wrapped in rope, he’d been momentarily hopeful. If they didn’t realize what they had - but no. They’d left it bound in ropes and tossed it into a wooden box, and they’d slid the box away from the cages so that an errant antenna couldn’t rust the bars away.

He sat in his cage, hands bound behind him, and watched the sun move blindingly across the sky, burning his skin as he sat under it for hours. The cool breeze that started as dusk approached was welcome, if insufficient. As the sun started sinking, he wriggled like a worm into the shadows and leaned his sunburned face against the side of the bars, relishing the coolness of the metal.

The adventurers returned with an unconscious carrion crawler dangling between the fighter and the archer and shoved it into the cage next to him. He squeaked, wriggling back to the opposite end of the cage, as far as he could get.

The archer laughed, wiggling her fingers at him. “Oh, hi there! Are you gonna dance for us? There’s better steps than the worm, you know.”

“No, I-”

Before he could finish his refusal, the wizard snapped her fingers from outside the cart and a spectral hand grabbed his face, muzzling him and sending an intense wave of cold and pain through him, lingering for several seconds before it released him and allowed him to fall forward, his head hitting his knees. He was nauseous, the pain gone from the rest of his body, but still lingering around his mouth and throat.

“No backtalk,” the wizard snapped, “You don’t need a tongue to go on show.”

Go on show? Was that what this was about?

“Please!” he said, “Please, I’m not-”

His body seized up again, just like it had before, and he couldn’t speak or move. His heart raced, but he was just as helpless as he’d been then.

“That’s right,” the wizard said coldly, leaning over the edge of the cart where she could see him. “You’re not anything. Filthy little gobbo. You’re gonna make us money, or you’re gonna be out on the streets where anything could happen to you. Got that?”

She released the spell, and he gasped for breath, even though he’d been breathing the whole time. In the absence of motion, in the absence of speech, it hadn’t felt real to be breathing, and it took longer than he had to make it feel real again.

The archer kicked the side of his cage and he nodded frantically at her, agreeing before he could get frozen again.

“Aww, he’s nodding,” she said, half to the wizard and half to him, her eyes still locked on him with a look that made him shiver. “Is the stupid little goblin starting to learn his place?”

“If he’s not, I’ve got some power left. And some spells that don’t miss.”

Az shook harder, his whole body visibly betraying him to the archer’s sharp eyes. She raised an eyebrow and he nodded again, frantically.

The fighter was sitting on the top of the rust monster’s crate, ignoring the rustling noises it made as it tried to get out. “I thought you were gonna make him dance, Dania.”

The moment the archer’s face started sliding toward a smile, Az struggled to sit up, to get his hands underneath him a little bit. “Oh, you want an early show?” she asked, “We’ll see if he’s smart enough for that.”

She jabbed an arrow abruptly through the bars, so fast he hadn’t even seen her draw it from the quiver before it was almost piercing his foot, making him flinch away to avoid it.

“See?” she said gleefully, just at the edge of a laugh he was sure would be more chilling than the others had been. “You’re getting it already.”

He rolled and ducked as well as he could as she continued to stab the arrow in his direction. The fighter started clapping in rhythm and banging on the side of the crate, making the rust monster’s noises louder as he alternated between claps and bangs, a rhythm the archer made only a passing attempt to follow.

Az had never been the strongest person in the clan. He’d been chosen to scout more for his speed than anything else. That served him fine when the archer thrust her arrow toward his head, feet, and legs and all he had to do was pull them out of the way.

Dodging the thrusts toward his chest and arms, and sometimes toward his thighs, was harder, making his stomach muscles hurt and his breath come hard and heavy.

The wizard scoffed. “You two are so immature.”

The fighter laughed, a warm, open sound that didn’t fit any of this and made Az resent him almost as much as he resented the archer with her cold glee. “Aww, come on, Rosie. Everybody loves a dancing animal. Gonna be a real moneymaker!”

His abs were burning long before his captors were bored with him, and by the time the arrow stopped coming and he could slump back to the bottom of the cage, he was soaked in sweat, cold on his skin and stinging in his eyes and the places his sunburns were worst.

He laid there, unmoving, until they were all the way off the cart, just in case. Then he rolled over one more time, pressing his face into the cold metal at the bottom of his cage. The cold was quickly becoming less pleasant in the night air, but at least it meant his face was safe, where it still stung and ached from whatever the wizard had done to him.

He was still lying in the same position, trying to stay still and not to draw any attention, when the fighter slapped the side of the cart with a loud, resounding thud and wished all the “beasties” good night.

Beasties. That was him, now, if he didn’t get out. If he didn’t get killed.

He wanted to curl into a ball, to tuck his legs up against his chest for comfort, but he needed to be mobile if the archer came back. Or if the crawler woke up and started flailing its tentacles around. Or if more spectral hands appeared beside him.

The moonlight was kinder to him than the sunlight had been, but he still didn’t sleep.
