Even though there's no art portion (bash or fight) to @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash this year, I still wanted to make a quick look for it. This year's theme is Celestial, but the heavens forbid me to put Andrea in anything but the comfiest beachwear possible!
Welllllll... I suppose that's only partly true; a dark button-up shirt wouldn't be the comfiest in direct sunlight, but we'll make an allowance. Just this once. :P

"Aren't they beautiful?"
Beachgoers may catch the tiniest flash or sparkle after a sneeze, or a bit of movement out of the corner of their eyes after a languid yawn and think nothing of it, but the locals tell of a sprite with a camera nearly as big as it is and the little cave--really barely more than a divot in the earth--where L'oli and her sister keep their unique Collection.
Week two of STVBB ‘22: Meet the Locals! I struggled hard with this one, for reasons I can’t really articulate in any sort of cohesive, coherent manner, heh.

Follow-up of a sort; my piece this week was originally wallpaper-shaped and had Andrea and Kezel in the midground, working on separating the flowers, leaves, and stems that Rumi and Tayto were harvesting, but no matter how I tried to finagle it, the composition really just did not work in the end. I really liked the sketches for them both, though, and decided I wanted to work on painting them a little more tonight, so I did!  But then I got bored, so there’s that, lmao.

When you're stuck inside due to rain, it can be hard to see other people having fun despite—or because of—it. But maybe you're just not seeing the details, bc you're a nerd who needs glasses but didn't bring a pair to the beach ;P
Week three of @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash‘s 2021 art fight: Rained Out!  I nearly gave up on this one several times throughout the process but I think it all came together in the end, which is nice. Nothing particularly challenging this week (unless you count none of the current social media hotnesses being set up well to do two-image spreads and giffing it into one image crunches it near beyond recognizability, heh) but that’s fine, I kinda needed a slow week anyway.

It’s @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash season again, bay-bee! Teams were announced a couple weeks ago and applications opened up yesterday—and there’s nearly a hundred competitors signed up already!  It’s gonna be a wild time for sure, but as usual I don’t know where my own home will be yet; I like waiting ‘til the end of the app period and helping prop up the team with fewer members, but also I told myself last year that maybe I’d just spectate this year in an attempt to not get overwhelmed by both participating in the art fight itself and trying to keep the spreadsheet up to date (which ends up being a near full-time occupation, especially on the last day of a prompt!)
As of right now, Team Relax is ahead on members, but it’s not by much in the whole scheme of things and that can always change at a moment’s notice; if you’re an artist, writer, or musician in the WoW community and want a neat four-week creative challenge, you should really check it out!

At the end of a long day on the beach, there's really nothing to do beyond grabbing some drinks with friends and toasting to an even better day tomorrow! @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash ‘21 prompt, week two: Refreshments!
I don’t have much to say about this one—this was my third attempt at this week’s prompt (the first two relied on me being a competent IRL baker, which, uh... lol?). I really ended up being down to the wire, because I also decided to go start to finish in Procreate, which I’ve not really done before, and then my file wouldn’t actually transfer to my computer no matter how many methods I attempted to use so I had to manually export every layer as a png and then reassemble it all in Photoshop, sdlsghkslkgfhg.
Composition is very heavily based on "Hip, hip, hurra! Kunstnerfest på Skagen" by Peder Severin Krøyer.

This week, the fourth wall gets a little wobbly as it's covered in art and bits of RL bleed into Andrea as a result!  The beach bash—and art fight—is way better with friends, but for the pedantic perfectionist data nerd sometimes that means playing detective and scouring the reference images of 250+ characters in a vain attempt to put a name to a face. Or faces. Or backs. Or part of a hand.
Listen. I'm telling you, if I just go through all these character references again, I know I can ID this character that looks absolutely nothing like anybody who's signed up!  I just missed the right link before, you know?
Week three of @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash!  This week’s theme was “Selfie” and there were a lot of good meme options, so I did a bunch of them.  I’m also including the full version of Castani (the blood elf with the gem-encrusted tiara) cos I actually really like how her face came out but like 75% of her got cropped (and then the crop got shrunk and resized to be an appropriate size on the wall, lmao).  Anyway the spreadsheet is turning into a wild beast of gargantuan proportions and I’m honestly a little scared of how much updating there’s gonna be to do when I wake up (since it’s T-minus four hours ‘til the deadline, I haven’t updated it since about 2pm, and almost everybody is going wild with their character counts this week, lol)

Sailors know that on a clear, calm night the horizon disappears and the boundaries between sea and sky blur to intangibility; like many Kul Tirans, Andrea's heart has always belonged to the depths, but lately something inside has made the choice between the two a little less clear-cut...
Fourth and final week of @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash‘s 2020 art fight—this year the final prompt was “team swap” again!  At the start when the teams were announced, I was having a tough time deciding between Surf and Sky; I ultimately went with Surf because I liked how the ref came out better, and it turned out to be the team I would have joined if I’d waited til the last minute to try and balance things like I’d originally planned to do, but Sky would have worked out pretty well in the end, too.
I didn’t get to draw nearly as many folks as I wanted to over the course of the fight, but I can always go back to the spreadsheet and cherry pick some folks.  Plus, there’s always next year...

Andrea's never been the spiritual sort but as Leshii explains, these days dressing up to "invite the Loa" is more for fun than reverence or caution. The pretty phoenix ought to watch her back, though—brightly-coloured birds show plain on the beach and some predators aren't confined to the water…
My submission for week one of the @stranglethorn-bonfire-bash 2020 art fight, featuring Address the satyr and Leshii the dwarf!  This week’s theme was “Menagerie” and I have to admit—I struggled a lot more than I think I ought to have when it came to filling it.  A lot of my ideas were either not beachy, only included my own character, or didn’t include my character at all (or some combination of the three), and none of those felt “good enough” given that all my submissions last year were group shots and I’m not actually sure if including your own character in your submission is a requirement or not.  Maybe I should have double-checked that, rofl whoops :x Anyway, I ultimately decided that maybe having the other people in the piece be exclusively ones wearing animal-themed outfits would be good enough, or was gonna have to be good enough.  From there it was just a matter of filtering the spreadsheet for all the people who’d given carte blanche access to their characters for the fight and checking out references one by one.
This is also the first piece I’ve done almost exclusively in Clip Studio Paint!  I’ve been dragging my feet on learning to paint/colour in it for forever, but the fight’s all about learning new things so it really was about time.  The only thing not done in CSP was Andrea’s rash guard and hat contrast’s pattern, which were Puppet Warped in Photoshop and then transferred back to my CSP file (CSP may very well have a puppet warp of its own but at that point there were <8h left ‘til the deadline and I didn’t want to risk not finishing when I knew I could do it in like 5m in Photoshop).

@stranglethorn-bonfire-bash season is starting up again (signups for the Art Fight end on the 15th!) and while I really enjoyed both drawing and RPing Apple at least year’s bash (and art fight), I wanted to challenge myself in a different way this year.  I can draw people with my own bodytype, but I’m not comfortable doing it, especially in semi-revealing clothing.  Beaches are pretty great for semi-revealing, though, so here we are!
Andrea Witterel (pronounced “ann-DREE-ah” instead of the more common “ann-DRAY-ah”) is a middle-aged midshipman from a family of ropemakers in western Stormsong Valley; the merchant vessel she was employed on got tangled up in some Old God Shenanigans™ during N’Zoth’s assaults on Azeroth with some funky end results; she’s not corrupted necessarily, but... well 🤫
Deciding between this year’s teams was tough—Surf makes obvious sense for a Kul Tiran, but Sky was an unexpectedly strong contender for Other Reasons™ and I ended up having to design out both versions before I could choose, haha.  Also included, since I don’t think I ever posted them to Tumblr, is a model edit I did of my hunter back in February for a twitter hashtag trend, and the first sketch of her that I don’t think got posted anywhere (until I made it my personal twitter’s avatar relatively recently).
I really really am currently enjoying my Kul Tiran alts (and race changed main); most of them are just a vague idea of what they might be if I were to ever flesh them out into a “real character” but the one that had the most thought put into it was the one that was based off a combination of these PTR/Wowhead dressing room screenshots and the trinket off Wrathion whose proc and on-use both give you fiery dragon wings.  She needed more than that obviously, but it was a good start; I’ve been thinking about it off and on for a while but haven’t really put much of it down and solidified it (since I don’t actively RP anymore, this hasn’t really been a problem until now, lol)
My hunter is currently rocking her look, but I’m not really convinced that my hunter is a good fit for her (especially with the specs being what they are); if the account that the lvl 103 draenei paladin on WRA is on ever goes inactive I will delete any character I have to to get that name on my account and that’ll be the official version of this character (and then I’ll have to decide on a class), but until then she’s a purely mindscaped character.  That’s why her first name is pronounced funny, by the way, though it doesn’t make much sense if her character name doesn’t end up Xellandria (which is in use by my Nightborne Mage atm)—the drake whose essence was combined with hers, Tarecgosa questline-style, was named Xeloszia (which, uh, didn’t realize til now had Xelloss in it lmao whoops) so it made sense to me that “Xeloszia" and “Andrea” became Xellandria (just Andria looks funny to me).
Witterel is the last name of the captain from Return of the Obra Dinn which has basically the best soundtrack of any game in the last five or so years and an LP of which has been my go-to for comfort watching/listening for at least a year and a half now—the night that ended with me going to the ER for a heart attack I was watching it for sure, and that was last July during the art fight, lol.
Eventually I will have more fun character tidbits over on Toyhouse, but that requires me to actually write them out, sooooooo...

Walking in the woods in the winter is a serene, peaceful experience, but snow can be tricky to traverse, and what do you do when you think snowshoes just look silly? You slog and you posthole and you tire yourself out and you make the trail more hazardous, that's what! Shame! Shame on you! Wear your snowshoes!!
Winterspring Wonderland is a World of Warcraft winter-themed art fight (in the same vein as the Stranglethorn Vale Bonfire Bash and Felwood Fright Fest) that’s going on now!  I actually intended to join the discord after sign-ups closed so I wouldn’t feel pressured to participate but joined a little too early, whoops :P
Week one’s theme was “Winter Activities” and while walking isn’t usually what one thinks of when thinking of activities, I really do genuinely miss being able to go walk in places, and we got rid of my own snowshoes and ice cleats when we were liquidating all of our stuff and moving earlier this year.  Time to live vicariously through Witterel again, eh? lol :P
I still don’t have video editing software but Clip Studio Paint has a new feature where it can save timelapses for you so I can do that now!  I enjoy watching them a lot, and naturally made one for this as well; you can find the 12-minute version here (or the 60s one here).

So Kul Tiran ladies don’t have properly scaled helms, at least in the Wowhead dressing room... but like, the warrior tier helm looks kind of badass this way?  Fangs, a lip ring, a metal chin, horns, visible hair?  Yes, please.  Not usually into lip rings tbh but it super works here.
I almost hope it doesn’t get fixed before they go live, cos’ ai chihuahua etc :P
(in other news, I think I’ve finally settled on a look for my upcoming KT alt; she’ll be a paladin if they can, but my hopes aren’t super high for that.  Warrior’s my second pick at the moment, but it’ll be easier to decide once I can actually get in game and start dressing rooming some sets.  They may also actually do a face model pass at some point, which would be nice cos they’re all babyfaced still, even the ones with horrible disfigurements and/or more wrinkles than a sharpei).
