@baconpancaakes no, they weren’t free--I had to stare wistfully at the books I couldn’t afford like I was seeing my husband off to war--but I would’ve torn it the fuck UP if I’d gotten a free book at every book fair

#baconpancaakes #screaming and then silence #usually it was where I got any new releases I was after but they were always hardcover #which would blow through all the money I had for the book fair #or I could skip out on getting the newest fablehaven or w/e and buy two paperbacks

  Fruit that are Appropriate to Salt:

Grapefruit looks like a big cool orange but tastes like sadness and broken dreams. It’s like eating a raw coffee bean with a squeeze of lime it’s so fucking bitter!!

A lot depends on the variety, growing conditions, root stock, etc. I’ve had grapefruits ranging from as bitter as you describe to key lime sweet. But all grapefruit do have high tannins like coffee and dry wines. Roasting the grapefruit helps with that, as does eating it with a fatty breakfast like eggs and bacon, or eating it with a little whipped cream or salt, like the other thread was about. Like all tannic things, salts and animal fats help clear the tannins from your palate, making the other flavors more pronounced.

My weird food thing is that when I was a kid, I used to make almond sandwiches. Wheat bread, mayo, salad mix, whole unsalted almonds. Sometimes I'd skip the bread and make it as a weird salad in a coffee cup.
