Fritz is going to pass in history as the only person who got to do the most improbable and embrassing thing and to take Admiral Kazansky down with him. The man who's he worships the ground he walk on and who's been his greatest crush since when Bradely showed him a picture of his uncles back when he was ten years old. Frizt has a thing for older man and an even bigger things for Thomas Kazansky.

So when it happens and said Admiral ends up on him, face at least than once centimetre away, he feels like heaven has opened his door for him and only him. He takes to feel like that for almost two entire minutes before everyone and their staff manager is shouting and taking Admiral Kazansky away from his chest. He misses him already.

They're gonna talk about this at his wedding and during his eulogy, years from now, because it was so awsome. Not the part where he tripped in front of all the people he could have tripped in front of but, y'know, the following part was actually so awsome.

Phoenix is at his right, Roo at his left and Vice Admiral Cyclone is patting Admiral Kazansky everywhere to see if it's okay. And the Admiral is laughing, full blown scale laugh. Simpson check the kid, I'm alright, and try to not made his life impossible. It wasn't his fault. Fitz is looking at this man, a couple of steps from him, standing up, straightening his uniform and coming towards him with his end out to help him on his feet and he can't find a single word to say to him if not I'm so sorry Admiral.

Think nothing of it ki-Lieutenant, you probably saved me from hours of long boring speeches. Let's get your ribs checked, I'm not as lit as I was thirty years ago.

People are going to talk about this day yes, at his wedding and at his funeral, as the day he tripped, took down Admiral Kazansky with him and then Admiral Kazansky himself took him, with an arm around his shoulder to the doctor. Ah, fuck them and their eating together with the Admiral, he got the preferential treatment and the man is hugging him! Or at least he's giving half of a hug. Fritz isn't pitchy.

(Captain Mitchell is sitting on one that blue and really uncomfortable hospital chairs, when Fritz finishes with the doctor. He's looking at him without really been looking at him and, the moment the Admiral is out of the room too, Maverick is on his feet.

I get held back once because of paperwork and you fall on one of my students! And worst of all they call me telling me you were in an accident and at the hospital, Frizt know he isn't quiet screaming but he feels like the man had quiet a scare, maybe he should intervene to say it wasn't the Admiral's fault? But worst of it all Iceman no one, and I say no one, not even Rooster that little traitor, filmed it. Now I'll have to leave with the idea of what it happened without having hard proof of you being clumsy once in a while.

Oh, that's and interesting turn of events, maybe someone should fetch him pop corn if they're going to be there for a little longer? But then they are both laughing, and Maverick is gently moving the Admiral's face to check if everything's okay before kissing his nose. You're allowed to have this kind of fun without me, got it Kazansy?

Yeah, whatever makes you sleep at night Mav he answers sweetly before kissing him on the lips, once and then a second time. Yep, Fritz is gonna need popcorn, ASAP.)

((In the next two days the Admiral comes around during class to check if he's really okay and if he feels like flying or not. Frizt would very much like to inform this man that he's already personally flying without the need of a plane, thank you very much sir.))

Pre-Flight Rituals

What habits do your favorite pilots have before taking to the skies? What rituals do they do to calm themselves?

As a little reminder, my requests are open!

Billy “Fitz” Avalone: Billy has a WHOLE ritual he goes through. After donning his flight suit, he has to put on his LEFT boot first, and then he has to wrap the laces twice around his ankle after getting his boots tied. He swears that this makes him pay better attention, something about the pressure. Callie just thinks he has undiagnosed OCD.

Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw: He was raised Catholic, but hasn’t really been a part of the faith for years; his belief in a higher being has shifted a lot over the years. He does pray before going up- a silent prayer to his father, Nick, to look over him. Aside from that, he knocks on the dash three times. Though, recently, he's gotten into the habit of whispering "Talk to me, dad." I wonder why.

Brigham “Harvard” Lennox: He has to pop his knuckles twice before taking off. And he does. No one knows how he can do it but he DOES. The truth? He’s double jointed in both hands, and it helps release the pressure in his joints to pop them. Changing altitudes has caused for his fingers to get sore.

Callie “Halo” Shen: She has a necklace she wears beneath her uniform at all times- a gift from her mother when she became a lieutenant. She has to make the clasp touch the little “C” twice- once on either side. It reminds her of when her mother would tap her head twice on her way out the door. It feels like her mother is with her- her own personal little co-pilot.

Jake “Hangman” Seresin: He acts like he doesn’t have any sort of ritual, but that’s a big ol’ lie. He sits in silence before going out- it doesn’t matter where, just someplace where he can be alone for a moment. He doesn’t pray- he hasn’t prayed in years, not since leaving home when he was eighteen. But he does talk to himself- which sounds weird, I know. He whispers the Courage section of the Naval Core Values: “Courage is the value that gives me the moral and mental strength to do what is right, with confidence and resolution, even in the face of temptation or adversity.” Sometimes, he’ll whisper it more than once. It helps him calm down and get his head focused.

Javy “Coyote” Machado: He talks to an old photograph of his parents that he keeps in his flight jacket. Tells them the details of the flight, explains what he’ll be doing, what role he’ll be playing this time. He promised his mother he’d come home- and he’s doing his best to honor that promise.

Logan “Yale” Lee: He taps out TAPS. Sort of morbid, he knows, but having played trumpet (and the bugle, once) in the past, it’s the one song he knows by heart. He also tries to eat a mint! Fully believes in the whole “mint makes you focus better”. It also calms his tummy because he gets a nervous tummy sometimes.

Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia: He taps his right boot against one of the wheels of his jet four times. It doesn’t matter the wheel, but he has to tap. He also walks the length of the jet- he doesn’t touch, but he looks. He’s a surprisingly detail-oriented person, so he likes to look and make sure everything looks right.

Natasha “Phoenix” Trace: She’s hands on; she has to walk the length of her jet, touching everything- making sure it feels right under her hands. If it doesn’t, she’ll have one of the engineers come over and fix whatever small problem it is. She also taps her name on the side of the jet twice. She’s a confident pilot; once she sits down, her mind is clear. She feels at home in the skies.

Neil “Omaha” Vikander: He likes to stand on the edge of the flight deck and look down at the water. It clears his mind, and allows for him to focus. If he’s doing a takeoff from land, he stands off to the side and stares at the sky.

Reuben “Payback” Fitch: He sings! It doesn’t matter the song- whatever comes to mind first, he starts singing. Music has always had a calming effect on him, and to just be able to sing a few lyrics before climbing in helps him. His favorite one to sing, though, is Rock with You.

Robert “Bob” Floyd: He does helmet checks- goes through and makes sure that his fleet mates helmets are okay. No cracks, no tears. He isn’t sure why, really. He also, like Phoenix, taps his name twice.

BONUS Pete “Maverick” Mitchell: “Talk to me, Goose.”

The whole squad gets a tattoo to commemorate the mission and their time at TOP GUN. Everybody chooses a different spot but it represents how they're going to be forever linked one to the other, doesn't matter how fare they're going to go, or not go, and how many time it's going to pass before they're going to be all together.

He is drinking his third shot when he realises that fuck it, if he could graduate from Harvard, becoming a doctor and a fucking excellent pilot, the 1% of the 1%, he could surley master the courage to go and talk with Admiral Kazansky. He has to talk with the man, not ask him for a date because he isn't Fritz. Frizt could go there and ask the man without having half of the alcohol Harvard has in his body now. He's not drunk, he swear. He just need a little liquid courage. Oh honey, you can go and talk to the man, he isn't going to eat you Penny says, filling his glass one more time. This is the last one of the night, so you go there before Mav comes around and swips him out before everyone's eyes. Okay, okay he can do it. Thanks Penny he says drinking until the last drop of his vodka.

He's half way the bar when Captain Mitchell slides on the booth, just on the right side of the Admiral and kisses him. Nope, so not gonna happen to night, sorry, he tried at least? he tries to convince himself when a hand drags him back towards the booth. So Harvard, my dear husband is asking himself when you would have find the courage to come and talk to him or if he had to make the first move to come to you. Now kid, you have to now that Iceman does the first move only with me or when he wants to get someone to disappear Mav says with a conspiratorial look at his husband so what about you sit your ass down son? I'd hate to loose another pilot so soon.

Harvard has to be very pale because another pilot? Oh god, he's going to die. Did Admiral Kazansky really- oh for chrissake Pete, let the man sit and have another drink before he has a heart attack. And then Harvard is sitting down without realising because Maverick is sneaky and he should have known better than to just trust the man. There's a beer already in front of himself and so, lieutenant what was all that fret? If it wasn't for the uniform, and that I hand picked you, I would have asked Penny to escort you out or that you were trying to flirt with me. the Adrmial says after a long minute of silence and Harvard is really trying to not choke on his own beer. It's-i'm not Fitz sir, I was trying to find the moment to come here and talk to you, sir. Everyone else did it and I didn't like to be left out of the loop, sir.

Uhuh, you're one of the kids I haven't seen around the house yet. But here you're, you can speak and introduce yourself the man is positively trying not to laugh and Captain Mitchell is stuffing is mouth of peanuts because he wants to be serious. He's going to say something, he really is, because his mouth is opening and closing and the beer bottle is slowly but steadley becoming lighter and still, not a single sentence is out.

Admiral Kazansky is looking at him, Captain Mitchell is looking at him, hell Penny is looking at him behind the bar but still, silence.

Did Mav ever told you what he did to piss Admiral Cane that much? the Admiral asks, looking back at his husband who's already trying to escape the story behind the question. But no sir, he didn't and so it begins.

Penny has to send them all out because she has to close the bar but the Admiral, call me Iceman, is still going on and on about this or that thing that Mav did or sharing randomly old gossip about other Admirals and Harvard's jaw is aching for how much he's laughin. It's 3 am and he has to go to sleep because in four hours they are going to have another loop to do and he needs to sleep but he really doesn't want to leave them. Now he gets why everyone is always around their house and why Halo decided to work with this particular Admiral years ago.

Do you prefer waffles or pancake Lieutenant? the Admiral asks, after exchanging their goodbyes.

Pancakes with a side of fruit salad, sir he answers, confused by the question. The last person who was interested in his breakfast habits was Yale and that's a particular story that involves a burn pan he doesn't want to think about right now. As it, it happend just two mornings ago and most of their clothes are still smelling like smoke.

Another on your side than, Mav. We will be expecting you on Sunday morning, it's going to be a brunch, all the squadron and the hopes are less alcohol in the mimosas than last time the Admiral announces before walking away, a half asleep Maverick on his side and Penny looking at them by her car.

Sunday morning. Perfect. Now he just has to find the strength to wake up at seven for the rest of the week. Easy peasy. And he can finally tell Fitz he talked to the man and take Yale with him so maybe, maybe, is boyfriend is going to learn how to cook once and for all.
