Bufflehead ♀️ The way I try to photograph diving ducks is kind of funny. My approach is similar to the red light, green light game. When the duck dives, I run towards it for about 3-4 seconds, then kneel down before it pops back up. I do this until I'm in close range to get a decent shot. I won't say it works 100% of the time, but I does help! Red-tailed Hawk It was very interesting watching this Hawk observing the wild turkeys walking beneath it. They were less than 3 feet away from each other. The Hawk is on the railing of the bridge at Franklin Park near the pond, and the turkeys are casually walking around on the bridge. I was thinking to myself, there's no way he's thinking about attacking one. Co-sponsored by the Franklin Park Coalition, Brookline Bird Club, Franklin Park Tennis Association, and the Emerald Necklace Bird Club. Information for participants: Please bring binoculars if you have them. Limited loaner binoculars will be available, provided by Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center @massaudubonboston on a first come, first served basis. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes, dressing for the weather conditions, and wearing a hat with a brim. Expect to walk 1-2 miles on paved paths. The nearest restrooms are at the Franklin Park Golf Course Clubhouse. In the event of heavy rain, the walk will be canceled. Common Goldeneye ♂️ with a juvenile Herring Gull. They actually weren't hanging out together. I was focused on the Common Goldeneye, and as it started swimming away from me, I just happened to catch this frame as it swam past the Gull. Hermit Thrush These have to be one of the easiest migrants to get a photo of, but somehow, this season, I was getting crappy photos. There was always branches blocking them. They're usually foraging on the ground and when you're walking, they will normally fly up to a nearby branch, perch there, look around for a little bit, (if you stand still) then fly off to another nearby area and continue foraging. I finally got a clear shot of one.
