my brain has been almost entirely consumed by knitting and crochet the past few weeks and I don't really know what to do about it. plus I've been working on my term paper for Ancient Egypt, which has taken up a lot of my brain space as of late
went to the Museum of Natural History today and I got a mammoth plush!
her name's Lana since it means "down, soft fleece, wool". plus it follows Tullia the Leopard Shark that I got last year for my birthday

at the leaping bear, did bruna and rufus start the business? whats the relation between the two? and why is the... security so tight with the bloodstained bat? are people sneaking into the rooms that often or is it to make sure all the tenants behave during their time at the leaping bear?
Bruna won ownership of the Leaping Bear at a high-stakes gambling table. When she collected her winnings, the previous owner made a point of telling her — a bright young thing with a burgeoning gambling addiction — that if she treated the Leaping Bear right it would make her more money than the gambling tables ever would. The previous owner was "cashing out" after a few decades of earning a living in the marketplace to retire on the surface, hence giving up the inn in a game of cards.
She was at just the right age that having stability was starting to sound really good, so she renamed herself to Bruna, took to wearing the bear mask, and dedicated herself into making the Leaping Bear a comfortable and reliable home for travellers. At first the gambling continued, but she slowly managed to drop the habit.
Rufus (and his bat) came with the place, and Bruna's attitude was that whatever he was doing seemed to be working, and he seemed happy to stay, so she kept him on the staff. They've since become friends.
The purpose of Rufus (and his bat) is twofold: to let the tenants know that their rooms are protected, and as a warning. Specifically: fuck around and find out. He's also a little bit superstitious; he's pretty sure that if he ever doesn't bring his bat to work, that will be the day someone decides they want to try Finding Out.

Bear being so shy that she looks for Lucy or Keira’s approval before doing anything. If someone invites her to play a game with her or go grab a snack at training or camp she won’t move until Lucy or Keira encourage her and let her know she’s ok to go
Bear's first day at Barca had Jana and Bruna asking if she wanted to kick the ball around with her and Keira having to coax Bear out from behind her legs and tell her it's okay to play.
Later on, Lucy has to lead Bear over to Patri and Pina to play as well.
Bear doesn't like doing anything without the support of her mums

Money and privilege isn’t enough to protect women and girls from sexual abuse. Content Warning: descriptions for child sexual abuse
High-fashion brand Gucci is owned by Balenciaga's parent company, Kering, and heiress Alexandra Gucci Zarini came forward in 2020 to allege she was sexually abused by her stepfather for many years—and the Gucci family intentionally covered for him instead of protecting her.
Balenciaga's name has been dragged through the mud for the last few weeks after the high-fashion brand released a campaign featuring young girls holding bondage teddy bears and standing on top of court documents from a Supreme Court case about child pornography. Ever since the brand was forced to apologize and remove the campaign, investigative journalists and everyday social media users have been digging deeper into the roots of Balenciaga and its parent company Kering.
Balenciaga and Its Parent Company Kering Have a History with Pedophilic Content
The S&M teddy bear photo shoot was just the tip of the iceberg. The very next campaign that Balenciaga released featured art books that glamorize pedophilia, cannibalism, and the occult. Some of the images look very similar to the kind of photo shoots that artists like Marina Abramovic, who is known for hosting "spirit cooking" events with powerful people in the fashion and political world, have done with fashion magazines in the past. And many of the paintings depict dystopian, disturbing scenarios in which adults are leading around young children in occult-like costumes with their heads and faces covered fully in hoods, naked toddlers covered in blood playing with severed human body parts, and young children standing around a rodent presumably getting ready to sacrifice it for an occult ritual. It has left many people wondering why on earth a fashion brand would willingly display these types of books in a fashion campaign.
But of course it doesn't stop there. Balenciaga's parent company Kering is associated with some extremely disturbing content too. The CEO of Kering, François-Henri Pinault (who is married to actress Salma Hayek), owns Christie's auction house, a famous auction site that sells a series of pedophilic art. Brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman created multiple child sex mannequins that are extremely disturbing and predatory. There is one piece of art in particular that is labeled F*ck Face. It's a male toddler with an erect penis in place of his nose and an anus in place of his mouth. The piece of art shows the boy walking with a large brown t-shirt on and purple sneakers. It sold for $140,000. This is just one example of many similar mannequins.
It's important to note that Kering also owns the following luxury brands: Adidas, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Puma, Montblanc, and Gucci. And a Gucci heiress came forward a couple years ago to allege that she was sexually abused by her stepfather while the Gucci family covered it up for years.
Gucci Heiress Alexandra Gucci Zarini Was Allegedly Sexually Abused by Her Stepfather and She Says Her Family Covered It up for Years
Alexandra Gucci Zarini, 37, came forward in 2020 to allege she was sexually abused for years at the hands of her stepfather, Joseph Ruffalo. Zarini is the granddaughter of industry titan Aldo Gucci, and she says from the ages of 6 to 22 she was sexually abused by Ruffalo—and even worse, her mother, Patricia Gucci, and her grandmother, Bruna Palombo, knew of the abuse and groomed her for Ruffalo. She alleges they allowed him to videotape her naked in the bathtub while he hit her, in addition to a slew of other physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Zarini says both women were pressured to stay quiet by Ruffalo.
Zarini filed a lawsuit in a Los Angeles court in 2020, alleging that her mother would hit or try to choke her, and then Ruffalo would step in and act like her rescuer, only to abuse her in even worse ways. She said she knew the abuse was coming because she could hear the ice clinking in his glass of scotch, which meant he was headed to her bedroom. He allegedly also encouraged her to use cocaine and crystal meth. The lawsuit alleges that Ruffalo would get into Zarini's bed naked and digitally raped her and rubbed his genitals on her. Palombo allegedly told her "to keep quiet" and cover everything up.
“If you think this doesn’t happen here in Beverly Hills, then you should know that my perpetrator still lives in California, spends time at the Bel-Air country club and volunteers in your children’s hospitals,” she said in a video.
“What he did to her is inexcusable and I was devastated when she disclosed everything to me at our family doctor’s office in London in September 2007. I immediately initiated divorce proceedings against Mr Ruffalo and set about healing my family through counseling," Zarini's mother Patricia Gucci said in a statement. However, she said that her allegations against her and Palombo were untrue. “I am equally devastated by the allegations against me and her grandmother, which are completely false,” she said.
These dark, disturbing allegations really make you wonder why these Kering luxury brands are associated with so much child abuse and pedophilia, whether it's pedophilic art, child sex abuse allegations, or predatory campaigns featuring minors with bondage teddy bears. At some point, you have to acknowledge that these can't all just be coincidences. What else are these brands hiding? What else is hiding beneath the surface?

A year later
War was now almost at the threshold, and I had been learning plenty from kind but fierce Helga. As I dutifully washed the sheep, I observed how many trained for battle. I was certainly no warrior, but I didn’t like having to wait for the men to make peace either.
“Lord Salazar Slytherin!” The herald cried.
I quickly washed myself and, with the tip of her wand, washed off the stench and detritus and I was quickly at Helga’s side, bowing to the tall man. He was a tall man with green eyes and brown hair, with a roguish look, and beside him, three people were standing: two beautiful women and a tall and scary-looking man. The women consisted in a tall and strikingly beautiful redheaded woman, who surveyed everyone with an expressionless look, and the second was a shorter blonde woman, who observed everything in silence. Finally, the man among them had silver hair and one eye patched and the other was as cold.
“…I am not sure, Sal. Many had died already, and I do not wish to endanger my people. Not to mention, many runaway nobles are here and hiding from their enemies. I cannot risk their safety.”
The silver-haired man looked at me and whispered to Salazar. He took a look at me, and my heart started beating fast, not liking such attention. He then spoke “How many of you are convicts or running away from the nobility? Raise your hand.” He commanded.
At least eight more raised their hand and he nodded. He then turned to Helga “Shall we discuss this on your office?”
“Very well. Henriette, dear, come with me.” Helga commanded.
“Eadric,” Salazar commanded “Bruna, Mathilde, stay here and keep an eye on the runaways.”
“Yes, my lord,” they both said, sounding like Siamese cats.
Then, we both followed our leaders into her office. I hadn’t been there much, but I was nevertheless exciting. My father never once allowed me to get into politics, waiting for the perfect suitor to take over as I was relegated into birthing children and keeping the household standing.
Helga sat on the desk as Salazar sat across her and the silver-haired man, Eadric, stood tightly beside Salazar. I did the same, forearms crossed as my hand rested on the other.
“Do tell me why sending my folk into slaughter is a good idea.”
“I can assure you, my dear, that there won’t be slaughter. Godric is not the brightest, but his courage and skills in battle are not to be question. Besides, you and I had fought in the past, as well as Lady Ravenclaw. This war, if fought well, could gain the king’s trust. And your hand, Henriette, used to be the queen’s favourite, correct, girl?” He then looked at me, and I had to brace myself before clearing my throat.
“Indeed, sir, though right now I cannot say. I haven’t seen or heard from her in a year. I would be willing to, if my ladyship wishes so.”
Salazar arched an eyebrow and I noticed how Eadric studied me closely. He wasn’t very talkative, but I felt like he was going through my mind with his only eye nevertheless. I worked up the courage and faced off, despite my skin puckering out of nervousness. After what it felt like an eternity, he chuckled, impressed, and whispered again at Salazar’s ear. He nodded and looked at Helga “If you join my ranks, I promise that nothing should happen to your people, as long as they follow us.”
Helga nodded “I shall give it some thought.”
They stood up and Salazar kissed Helga’s hand and nodded at me. I bowed and nodded at Eadric, who simply followed Salazar out. Outside, I saw how the women broke from an embrace and quickly followed Salazar to his horse.
Days passed as Helga and I discussed our strategy, and agreed to wait for Godric so we’d hear him out first. A week later, Godric blessed us with his presence. He rode with his own entourage, looking rather handsome in the sunlight: his red hair and peaceful blue eyes, alongside his armour, made him like a personification of Apollo. He helped off her horse to a rather beautiful woman, with black hair and striking brown eyes, wearing an armour as well and she kissed his cheek, making him blush bright red.
“That’s Luxia Thorne,” Helga whispered “Godric’s lover. She’s a great dueller, giving him a run for his salt and his second in command. They’re inseparable and seem to love each other dearly. See those siblings?” She nodded towards to equally beautiful pair of siblings: their skin was dark, with equally dark hair and dark eyes, though their regalia was red, as well as Godric’s and Luxia’s. “They are the son and daughter of the Baron Osada, and although he works with Salazar, he’s very supportive of his children being at Godric’s care.” They were certainly a most regal group, looking like storybook heroes to save the day. Unlike Salazar’s unfriendly and cold villains.
Though decades later I’d see for myself that nobody’s pure and nobody’s pure evil, and that historians aren’t often good at deciphering the human experience and limit themselves to tell a simpler story.
Primrose blinked, confused “But wait. How come these academics can be wrong and write simple stories? Isn’t history’s whole point to tell the story as it is?”
Henriette chuckled “Let me ask you something. Do you believe the historians who called me a trickster, a cold and bad wife, a cheater and many more?”
“Of course not!” Primrose cried.
“Or perhaps the ones who says that Iploytta Howard slowly poisoned her husband to take full reins of Winbourne?”
Primrose shook her head “That is non ethical! To make up lies and slander figures just because of what you believe! What happened to the truth?”
Henriette smiled sadly “Most men don’t care about the truth or facts; they care about telling a story for an end. They used my story to be obedient and dutiful wives. With my poor Juliana and Ipolytta they told us to know our places, and with Maria Elisabeth, to leave the politics to the men. Most of these men don’t want to truly tell the story, they want to sell us one. For example, Cleopatra was used as an example of what bad rulers’ women could be. They used Anne Boleyn to explain why we ought not to meddle in politics. Marie Antoinette was made an example of why we should be humble and grateful. And more recently poor Isabella II of Spain, whose story told by men tells us how we ought not to be; to be chaste, obedient and quiet when a man is present. Now, this is a man’s world, therefore our narratives belong to them. When your time comes, no matter what you do, these men will use your story and twist it to subjugate the next generation into a new ideal. Our only hope is that our descendants are as insightful as you and see beyond the slander and lies of these cruel men and vindicate us.”
Primrose looked into the portrait’s eyes, decision in her eyes “When our interview is over, I shall tell your true story and put to an end such slander against you.”
Henriette smiled widely “Let us continue then. Now, I was about to talk about… oh yes! When Godric came to visit us for his own campaign.”
“Helga!” He smiled widely and warmly embraced her “my, you get more lovely by the day.”
“Save such compliments for dear Luxia,” she teased.
Luxia finally spoke “Worry not, I am not easy to get jealous, my lady.”
He finally turned to me and smiled “Ah, you must be the famous Henriette! Famous for having a mind as striking as her beauty. Lord Godric Gryffindor, it is an honour to make your acquaintance.” He kissed my hand and I couldn’t help but flush out of embarrassment. I looked over Lady Thorne, but she didn’t seem to mind. He then greeted one by one all the acolytes of Helga’s, a true example of chivalry.
I murmured to Helga “I can see why Lady Thorne is so taken by him.”
“Godric is nothing but kind and soft behind the legends of his fierce duellist prowess. He is a man, after all!”
We chuckled, agreeing on it. Men, no matter how mythical, were regular men in the end of the day. I wouldn’t relate to this till later in life.
When we got up, it was four of us: Helga, me, Luxia and Godric. We sat again in her chair “I shall ask you the same I asked Salazar: tell me why sending my people into a secure slaughter is a good idea.”
Godric explained “I am aware that it is not looking good in the front lines. War is nearly upon us, and stability is hanging by a rather sensitive thread. But should you join my ranks, I shall protect each of your acolytes as if they were my own and, together, we could convince Lady Ravenclaw.”
As they discussed, I mulled over what they said, then I blurted out, unsure of how to say it “What if the four of you fought together?”
The three of them looked at me curiously “Care to elaborate?” Luxia asked.
“The four of you are one of the most powerful wizards of your age, are you not?” They all nodded “And each of you possesses incredible power, do you not? Well then, instead of splitting, create a wizard union against those treacherous lords as one. I know most of them, and many of your servants have served them. Many are sworn to my father, vassals to my estate, and the queen and I were in good terms when I left.” The plan slowly started creating itself in my head, spiralling “and I shall ride to her summer estate, where she often visits her charities.”
“So it is true that Queen Aelgifu and you are good friends.” Godric gaped.
“I was there when she arrived as a royal bride to King Aethelred. I helped choose the court, read to her, went to church with her and was advised her on marital matters as a neutral third party. She also refused the marriage that had been proposed to me, the one that I ran away from and brought me here. If any of you goes, she will be alarmed, but not if she sees a friendly face. She wouldn’t be hearing out a mere witch: she’d be listening to a friend’s plea for help.”
They all looked at me, impressed by what I said. Looking between one another, and Helga spoke “Very well. You’ll leave in three days’ time. Two of my men shall accompany you.”
“In the meantime, I believe we must visit Sal and Wenna.” Godric concluded.
A week later
I had ridden for a whole week, but at last, I had found the Queen’s Lodge and, confidently approached the guards and declared “I am Lady Henriette of Wessex and demand to see Her Majesty. It is a matter of utmost urgency.”

✧ ˚ · . the continent welcomes RHIANON AVENTIA of THE SPRING COURT, the LADY of THE SPRING COURT. when the HIGH FAE is glamoured, she bears a resemblance to BRUNA MARQUEZINE. the 30 / 583 year old FEMALE is reputed to be ALLOCENTRIC and INSIGHTFUL, but a decade of war has left them RETICENT and INTRANSIGENT. if created by the cauldron, they would be made in the likeness of HOLY WATER AND HELLFIRE IN EQUAL DOSES — WHAT ONE RECEIVES IS WHAT THEY SURELY DESERVE ; DUST COLLECTED ON THE DELICATE VISAGE OF A MARBLE STATUE, ITS WEATHERED HAND REACHING TOWARDS A LIGHT THAT WILL ALWAYS BE JUST OUT OF GRASP; THE SILENT DEFIANCE OF A CHIN HELD ALOFT IN PRIDE AND BROWN EYES GLITTERING IN WORDS LEFT UNSAID; THE ANCIENT ACHE UPON THE SHOULDERS OF ATLAS, EMBROILED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND RESIGNATION OF A BURDEN THAT WAS NEVER DESIRED BUT HIS ALL THE SAME. whispers throughout prythian claim that their allegiance lies with THE SPRING COURT, where they conspire to MAINTAIN THE WALL IN THE NAME OF PROTECTING BOTH THOSE IN THE MORTAL LANDS AND MEMBERS OF HER COURT.

BIOGRAPHY .
tw – infidelity, death, grief & depression
an unmistakable sense of otherness is a beast that boils beneath your skin from your earliest memories. you are a puzzle piece warped at its edges, just close enough to fill in the holes of an otherwise complete picture but far enough to make your existence feel cramped and uncomfortable – a product of your mother’s indiscretions against a husband that she never desired in the first place. it’s a fact that your 'father' never lets you forget, imbued in every aversion of his gaze and twitch of muscles in the set of his jaw, like a silent accusation of a betrayal you had no option but to be complicit in.
what your father lacks in affection, your mother possesses in abundance. she carries strength and softness in equal measures, a gentle hand with firm boundaries, and a just sovereign worth committing fealty to. you treat her very existence like folklore, acting as a shadow following in her wake and clinging anxiously to the gossamer of her skirt as if she’d slip through your grip like mist if you loosened your grip for even the barest of seconds.
she humors your clinginess, perhaps sensing how you practically ache for belonging. it’s like she sees through you, understands your every curiosity and desire – every need and fear – like they are her own, and frequently before you know them yourself; she nurtures your inherent curiosity, cultivates your sense of kindness and pride like she does the fine rose bushes in her palace gardens. granted, she doesn’t leave your brothers wanting for attention, either, but there’s something in the wistfulness of her gaze as she ponders you that makes you wonder if you mean something different to her altogether.
you ask about your father – your real father – once only, framed as a passing thought as she tucks you into bed one night. you’re still young - too young to know better - but your curiosity and thirst for knowledge have already been well-established. while you shouldn’t expect any different of her, her response is cryptic and flimsy, a gentle dismissal to get out of giving answers that she simply cannot offer you. However, the tenderness in her gaze as she bids you good night tells you everything you need to know about the affair without requiring as much as a word.
you start your education early, and you latch onto it with fervor. knowledge is power in your world, and you quickly develop a particular affinity for the books of your family’s library. literature becomes an escape, a quiet retreat to quiet your overactive mind and allow your imagination to run rampant. while your interests are wide-ranging and eclectic, poetry quickly becomes your first love. the wordplay, the use of language to paint masterpieces out of intangible emotions, the beauty of its simplicity – to an overactive mind and heart that lives in vibrant color, you feel there is no passion more fitting.
the word ‘precocious’ is one that you quickly make a home of, an identity and point of pride that you wear like a badge of honor upon your chest. ‘uncompromising’ and, more succinctly, ‘difficult’ are also descriptors you often find yourself saddled with. These criticisms are far from undeserved; your need to be right and inability to hold your tongue when struck with conviction is proof enough of that.
Thankfully, a few (hundred) years and a healthy dose of maturity manage to teach you the value of impulse control, at the very least. Those years teach a multitude of lessons, from the subtleties of political intrigue, a keen sense of quiet, piercing perception, and most importantly, the art of shouldering that delicate balance of softness and steel — an understated, unassuming sort of power — that quickly become your greatest weapons. it won't be long until you're using those skills for the betterment of the court both at home and on diplomatic visits, especially as the telltale signs of imminent conflict begins to emerge on the horizon.
there's no moment of hesitation at the outbreak of war, no question that there was simply no other option than to back the mortals and fight for a better, fairer future for all. it's a noble cause that your mother champions without as much as a second though, a conflict that your 'father' pays for with his life on the front lines, and one that quickly pushes both your family and your court to its very limits. you learn that war is costly, and while you never question whether it will all be worth it when all is said and done, it's a sobering reminder that war is anything but fair.
you contribute with everything you can, and in tapping into your strengths, you bury yourself in diplomacy and logistics, in plans and alliances and numbers. it feels like the least you can do, and even though you regularly find yourself worn and exhausted at the end of each day, it doesn't feel like enough. ( truthfully? you're not sure that you'll ever feel it's enough. )
nobody is prepared for the bombshell that comes in the form of your brother scrambling home, hand-in-hand with a lady of the autumn court and declaring that he'd found a mate in her. from an objective view, you find it beautiful - a story of star-crossed lovers against the world made real - but the realist in you can't ignore knot of dread in your gut and the deep understanding that there was nothing good that could come from something like this. Still, your mother doesn't hesitate to open up her home and family to the girl, and between your trust in her judgment and your desire to support your brother in his decision-making, you allow your misgivings to fall to the wayside.
you'll come to regret that decision when that night comes. part of you wishes you could forget that night, push the memories of the screams and the chaos and the blood - oh, cauldron, the blood - out of your mind altogether, but it remains in vivid, painful detail. your mother, your high lady, slain in the middle of the night by a high lord drunk on power and the desire for revenge. to this day, you're still convinced that she took a piece of her with you as she passed - a piece you're still not sure you'll ever get back.
the loss of your mother is an all-encompassing sort of grief that doesn't hesitate to raze your entire sense of being in one fell swoop. it leaves nothing but ash in its wake, and if you weren't so hung up on your pride, you would've likely collapsed under the weight of your despair. there is nothing poetic about your rage, nothing beautiful about your sadness, nothing helpful about your pain; it's enough to sap the world of its color and to shatter whatever fragile optimism you still possessed.
you're a pro at masking, at pretending and feigning in the name of playing the game of diplomacy, and in the name of getting your court through the war and keeping it together for the sake of your family, you allow your political tactics to bleed into your personal life. you pack it all - the sadness, the anger, the resentment - away into a neat little box and tuck it deep into your mind in favor of something more palatable, and while you make a great actress, there's something off about it - a new sense of somberness, a distance, and severity that hadn't been there before. you assume that few notice, but perhaps they choose not to ask.
the war has ended, the wall is up, and yet peace is still far away. creatures lurk in the spring court, itching for any gains they can make on broaching the wall, and with a new high lord in place, you're aware that your people are in a vulnerable position. you've dedicated yourself to securing safety by ensuring the treaty's success and by any means necessary.

✧ ˚ · . the continent welcomes ELYSIA ARANTES of THE DAY COURT, the HIGH PRIESTESS of THE DAY COURT. when the FAE is glamoured, she bears a resemblance to BRUNA MARQUEZINE. the 31 / 539 year old CIS WOMAN is reputed to be ADROIT and DISCERNING, but a decade of war has left them CUNNING and JADED. if created by the cauldron, they would be made in the likeness of WORN PAGES OF BOOKS LIT BY DWINDLING CANDLELIGHT, THE FEELING OF FRESH AIR AND LIGHT STREAMING THROUGH A WINDOW, A SUDDEN SENSATION OF WATCHFUL EYES UPON YOU. whispers throughout prythian claim that their allegiance lies with THE DAY COURT, where they conspire to BRING A CLOSER UNDERSTANDING OF THE DEITIES AND THE CAULDRON TO HER PEOPLE .
