2023 WNBA draft jumpers
Tumblr media
1. Lou Lopez Senechal (G)- UConn
Without a doubt she has to be one of the biggest draft jumpers. Before this season many people hadn't even heard of her, now she's projected to possibly be a first round pick. Due to injuries to Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, Lopez Senechal was thrust into a primary scoring option for UConn. She is averaging 15.7 ppg and shooting 43% from the three point line. Lopez Senechal has gone from not even being drafted to possibly being a first round pick.
2. Maddy Siegrist (F)- Villanova
Tumblr media
Siegrist is leading the nation in scoring with 28.9 ppg. She doing it efficiently, averaging 51.8% from the field. She is also Villanova's all-time leading scorer, men's and women's. I don't think she gets the respect she deserves, and I think she can give any WNBA a big boost off the bench. I think there is a possibility she can be a lottery pick.
3. Diamond Miller (G/F)- Maryland
Tumblr media
Miller is a 6'3" guard/forward combo. This season she's averaging 19.7 ppg 6.5 rpg 2.9 spg and shooting 47% from the field. She's hit many buzzer beater clutch shots this season and is a big reason why Maryland is doing so well despite losing Angel Reese and Ashley Owusu to the transfer portal. She was already considered by many to be a lottery pick, but she has jumped up to being a projected #2 overall pick.
4. Alissa Pili (F)- Utah
Tumblr media
USC transfer Alissa Pili is a big reason why Utah reached the #2 overall team in the country for the first time in program history. She was also named the PAC-12 player of the year. She is averaging 20.3 ppg 5.4 rpb 1.0 spg while shooting 58.3% from the field. A problem I see with Pili is she is undersized at the 4 position, where she primarily plays for Utah. However, she does have another year of eligibility, but it isn't known yet if she will be returning to Utah for another season.

Phoenix Suns Trade Three Players to Golden State Warriors for Vinny Del Negro
Tumblr media
On January 26th, 2001, the Phoenix Suns traded forwards Corie Blount and Rubén Garcés and guard Paul McPherson to the Golden State Warriors for guard Vinny Del Negro.
The Golden State Warriors added guard Vinny Del Negro in a three-team trade with the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers. A 12-year veteran, Del Negro struggled in 29 games with the Warriors, shooting just 33.3% from the field and producing 2.7 PPG, 1.1 RPG and 2.1 APG in 13.7 MPG.
The Warriors began the season 1-7 and never really righted the ship. The team was 14-28 after 42 games. Del Negro was dealing with bone spurs in his ankle but with the Warriors in the cellar of the NBA standings, the team decided to move on from the veteran guard.
Tumblr media
Corie Blount joined the Phoenix Suns in the 1999 offseason when he passed on a few offers from other teams and signed a two-year, $2.3 million deal with a player option of $1.2 million in the final year.
The 1999-00 Suns brought intrigue to the NBA. The team acquired guard Penny Hardaway from the Orlando Magic in a sign-and-trade and drafted forward Shawn Marion in the first round of the 1999 NBA Draft. With a nucleus that already included Jason Kidd, Clifford Robinson and Rodney Rogers, the Suns had a legitimate case as contenders.
The Suns were one of the better teams in the NBA, beginning the 1999-00 season 13-7 after 20 games. In that time, head coach Danny Ainge resigned from the position to spend more time with his family.
Assistant coach Scott Skiles replaced Ainge and not much changed. The Suns won their next four games and continued to perform well. Phoenix was 53-29 record, good for a tie for fourth best in the Western Conference.
Blount missed the first two months of the season as he recuperated from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Blount reserve after returning in January. He appeared n 38 contests (one start) and contributed 2.8 PPG and 3.0 RPG in 11.7 MPG.
Phoenix was tied with the San Antonio Spurs for fourth, but lost the tiebreaker because the Spurs had a better record against teams in the West. That meant the Spurs would have homecourt advantage in a first round matchup between both teams.
Both Phoenix and San Antonio had stars out during the first round. Jason Kidd was out with a broken right ankle and Spurs forward Tim Duncan was out indefinitely with torn cartilage in his left knee.
The series started with a low-scoring 72-70 win for Phoenix. Blount hit three clutch free-throws in the win and Rodney Rogers stole an inbounds pass to seal the game. Spurs center David Robinson had 25 points and 15 rebounds in the second game as San Antonio evened the series with an 85-70 victory.
In Phoenix, the Spurs took a ten-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Suns outscored the Spurs 32-15 in the fourth quarter to take a 2-1 series lead. Kidd returned from his ankle injury in Game Four and Hardaway had 23 points and seven rebounds as the Suns won the series 3-1 with an 89-78 victory. Blount had a big role in Phoenix's first round win, averaging 7.0 PPG on 57.9% from the field, 6.5 RPG, 1.3 SPG and 1.5 BPG in 21.7 MPG.
Phoenix matched up with the 67-15 Los Angeles Lakers in the next round. Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal led the way with 37 points and 14 rebounds as Los Angeles routed Phoenix 105-77 in Game One. Game Two was closer. After a Hardaway layup with 46 seconds left gave Phoenix a 96-94 lead, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant made one of two free-throws with 43 seconds remaining.
After Hardaway missed a jumper, Bryant nailed a game-winning pull-up from Bryant with 2.6 seconds remaining. Hardaway missed a heavily contested runner at the buzzer as Los Angeles won 97-96. Game Three was also close. Phoenix had a lead going into the fourth quarter at home. The Lakers gained control late and 9-of-12 free-throws in the final one minute and 34 seconds to win 105-99 and took a 3-0 series lead.
Facing a sweep, Phoenix led by 23 at halftime of Game Four and never relinquished a lead and won 117-98. Los Angeles closed out the series with an 87-65 victory in Game Five. Blount played in five games with Phoenix and amassed 3.2 PPG and 6.0 RPG in 15.0 MPG.
After Phoenix’s second round series loss, Blount's larger role in the playoffs led him to opt out of his contract. He received offers from other teams, but decided to sign a two-year deal worth $3.2 million with a player option for the 2001-02 season. The Suns also signed guard Tony Delk.
In the offseason, Phoenix made some smaller deals signing forward Rubén Garcés and guard Paul McPherson as training camp invites. Garcés previously played in the Continental Basketball Association and McPherson was an undrafted rookie.
A 6-foot-4 guard from DePaul, McPherson averaged 11.2 PPG and 4.6 RPG as a junior at DePaul. McPherson's performance in Summer League at the Rocky Mountain Revue with Phoenix led to his invite. The guard managed 18.7 PPG and led all Summer League players in field goal percentage (61.9%).
The Suns suffered some bad news when guard Penny Hardaway was out for the beginning of the 2000-01 season. Hardaway had what was believed as a simple arthroscopic left knee surgery but it was eventually revealed that he had microfracture surgery. Hardaway later went through a second arthroscopic surgery on his knee in late November.
Even without Hardaway, the Suns were still good. Marion stepped up in his second year. After dropping its first game, the Suns won 10 of the next 12 to rise to 10-3. Phoenix continued to play quality basketball into 2001.
In January, Hardaway returned for four games before being shutdown for the rest of the season. Looking for proven backcourt help, the Suns made the decision to trade for a veteran guard in Del Negro to add depth while dealing three bit players who were mainly on the bench. The team was 24-16 when it made the trade.
Blount had a minor role in his second season with Phoenix. The forward played in 30 games (six starts) and was producing 1.8 PPG, and 2.8 RPG in 12.9 MPG.
Garcés barely played with Phoenix in his first NBA season. The 6-foot-9 forward saw action in 10 games, managing 1.6 PPG and 2.2 RPG in 6.2 MPG. McPherson showed some flashes of ability such as a 9-for-10, 20-point game in a win against the Toronto Raptors, but was relatively quiet.
The guard appeared in 33 games and recorded 3.4 PPG, 1.5 RPG and 0.5 APG in 9.3 MPG. Blount ended his time in Phoenix with a stat line of 2.4 PPG and 2.9 RPG in 68 contests. He shot 49% from the field and 56% from the free-throw line in that time.
The NBA didn't allow veterans on one-year contracts to be traded. To make the deal work, Blount waived his player option, making the second year guaranteed and the trade legal.
The Warriors released forward Chucky Brown from his 10-day contract to make room on the roster for the three players acquired in the deal.
Tumblr media
After the trade, Del Negro was a bench option for Phoenix. The Suns had the second best defense in the NBA. They finished with the sixth-best record in the Western Conference at 51-31. Del Negro participated in 36 games with Phoenix, compiling 4.9 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 1.8 APG and 0.6 SPG in 14.6 MPG.
In the playoffs, the Suns went on to a matchup with the third seed Sacramento Kings. In the series opener, Jason Kidd had 18 points and 14 assists and the Suns held on for an 86-83 win in Sacramento after Kings guard Jason Williams missed a potential game-tying three-pointer.
The Kings led by 32 points in the third quarter and won easily 116-90. In Game Three, Phoenix jumped out to an early 17-point lead in the first quarter. Sacramento quickly erased the deficit and took a lead in the third quarter. The Kings outscored Phoenix 14-6 in the final three minutes to win 104-96.
Sacramento closed out the series in Game Four with a 30-19 fourth quarter score and 89-82 final score. Kings forward Peja Stojaković had 37 points as Sacramento eliminated Phoenix. Del Negro played in the first three games of the series but was out of the rotation in the finale. The guard averaged 2.7 PPG on 57.1% shooting, 0.7 RPG and 1.7 APG in 8.6 MPG.
After Phoenix's loss, the Suns shook up the roster, dealing Kidd to the New Jersey Nets for Stephon Marbury. The Suns also traded starter Clifford Robinson to the Detroit Pistons.
Del Negro was on Phoenix's roster for the 2001-02 season but was traded nine games into the season to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team deal that brought Bo Outlaw to the Suns. Del Negro had scored two points in two games with Phoenix.
Del Negro ended his stint in Phoenix with 4.7 PPG, 1.3 RPG, 1.7 APG and 0.5 SPG in 38 games. The Suns guard shot 52% from the field and 89% from the free-throw line.
Tumblr media
The Warriors went 3-37 after the trade to finish up the 2000-01 season 17-65. Rubén Garcés was waived by the Warriors nearly a month after the trade. He played in three games with Golden State, going scoreless in seven minutes while pulling down seven rebounds.
Blount was given a significant amount of minutes and responded well. The 6-foot-9 power forward saw the most playing time of his career (24.2 MPG) and rebounded the ball at the highest rate of his career. Blount had a rebound rate of 18.2% and averaged a career-high 8.3 RPG in 38 games. Blount also posted 6.8 PPG, 1.3 APG and 0.8 SPG.
McPherson saw a slight uptick in playing time, but still had a background role for the struggling Warriors. The guard appeared in 22 games with Golden State, tallying 6.8 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 1.0 APG and 0.6 SPG in 13.0 MPG.
After the season, McPherson became a free agent and signed a contract with the Denver Nuggets, though he was eventually cut in 2001 training camp.
Blount was on the Warriors heading into the 2001-02 season, but was traded shortly before its inception to the Philadelphia 76ers in a three-team, seven-player deal also involving the Charlotte Hornets.
Tumblr media
Vinny Del Negro on how the trade had been in the cards for some time (via Arizona Republic):
"It just didn't work out. I thought I would have been here [in Phoenix] last summer. Golden State talked about it. Finally, it got done. I'm just happy I'm here now. Golden State was going in a different direction with an emphasis on youth. I needed to be on a winning team, which I have been all my life."
Corie Blount on how he was happy to leave Phoenix (via Arizona Republic):
"I'm glad I'm out of there, to be honest. We're not winning as many games, but at least I have a good feeling about being here. There's a lot less stress. I don't think guys over there (in the Phoenix locker room) have a good feeling about being there anymore. It takes a toll. Those guys over there are tight, I guarantee you. And it carries over, I don't care what anybody says."
On coach Scott Skiles:
"I don't have to worry about his (expletive) anymore. That's the major thing. This is a hundred times better (at Golden State)."
Paul McPherson on the trade (via Arizona Republic):
"I know you can't come out and disrespect anybody like that, but Vinny Del Negro has maybe two or three years left in the league, tops. I guess that's the decision they thought was best. I just got to come back and take it out on them. "They felt like Del Negro was a better player than me, and there's nothing I can do about that except prove them wrong. I didn't feel like I had a chance to show what I can do on a consistent basis, and then you get judged on that. I didn't understand the trade or the way it went down."
Feeling bitter about the trade:
"I thought I was a member of a family there. And then to get traded like that and not even hear about it from coach Skiles first. He told me later, 'I know you know what's going on, so we just have to be professional and move on.' "I really didn't appreciate the way it was done. I didn't think I was given a fair shake. I was bitter, and I'm still bitter now."
Golden State Warriors assistant general manager Gary Fitzsimmons on the trade (via ESPN):
"They just felt they needed a veteran guard who could play both positions. It was a good situation for Vinny and a good opportunity for us to add depth, and that's why we did it."
On Corie Blount's interest in heading to the Warriors in the deal:
"He's very excited to come here. All of them are excited."
On acquiring McPherson in the deal:
"That was the hardest part of (Phoenix's) part of the deal -- giving him up. They think he can be a player. We think this guy has a significant potential and upside."
Phoenix Suns head coach Scott Skiles on the trade (via Arizona Republic):
"We've made a commitment to our two young big guys (Jake Tsakalldis and Daniel Santiago), and that left Corie out of the loop," said Suns coach Scott Skiles. "Paul, we think, has the potential to be a good player, but because of Penny's injury, we felt like we needed more of a shooter and veteran guy there."
On Corie Blount and Paul McPherson's opinions of him and the trade situation were relayed to him (via Arizona Republic):
"That's all right. They can think whatever they want. That's fine. When I was traded to Washington from Orlando, I wasn't overly excited about it, that's for sure. But I understood this was a business, and I went."

Southern Indiana’s Alex Stein
I tip my cap to Alex Stein.....what a career, and what a senior season!  Storybook stuff......
Alex grew up in Evansville, as his Dad is the long-time women’s basketball coach at the University of Southern Indiana.  He grew up shooting hoops in the PAC on campus.  His Dad played at USI.  His sister attends USI.  He went to Evansville’s Reitz High School, and became a really good player; in fact, Stein was named All State in Indiana after averaging 19.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.5 apg and 2.6 spg as a senior.  With such deep roots in Evansville - and at USI - he chose to attend Southern Indiana.
Fast forward.....Alex has a terrific career during his first three seasons at Southern Indiana. Heading into his senior season, he already had 1,487 points, over 300 rebounds and almost 300 assists.  He was really good and having a really good career......and then, in his senior season, he took it to another level.  He and his team had the dream season (almost)......In this season alone, Alex Stein and the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles accomplished the following:
*  Stein had 48 points in a win against Lake Superior State.  It was the second highest individual scoring output in USI history.
*  Bellarmine was 19-0 and ranked #1 in the country --- and had won a remarkable 67 consecutive games at home (their senior class hadn’t lost home game in their career) - when the Screaming Eagles went into Knights Hall to knock off Bellarmine, 80-76.
*  On February 21, Stein scored his 2,000th career point in a game against Lewis.
*  Southern Indiana is building a new, beautiful arena, which is expected to be ready for the start of the 2019-2020 season.  As such, this was the final year for the PAC --- the gym where Alex Stein grew up playing.  In the final game in the PAC, Stein hit a shot with 2 seconds remaining to beat rival Indianapolis, 67-65. His final shot in the PAC was a game-winner......what a special moment!
* Southern Indiana received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and defeated Ashland in the opening round, 66-60.  In the following game, they played top-seeded Lewis, at Lewis. Mateo Rivera beat the buzzer with a running bank shot to give the Screaming Eagles a dramatic 62-61 win over the Flyers. Then, for the Regional Championship game, USI faced Bellarmine for the fourth time this season....and Alex Stein put on a show, finishing with 33 points (shooting 10-14 fg and 11-11 ft), and led the Screaming Eagles to a 76-69 win to send USI to the Elite Eight....in Evansville!  What a dream.....reaching the Elite Eight in your hometown!
*  In the first round of the Elite Eight, USI faced West Texas A&M, who came into the game with a stellar 34-3 overall record, and having won 19 consecutive games.  USI led wire-to-wire and defeated the Buffs, 94-84, before an Elite Eight record crowd of 7,330 fans.  What an atmosphere!  .....oh, and Alex Stein scored 31 points in the highly impressive win to send USI to the NCAA Division II Final Four.  The dream continued....
*  In the Final Four, USI played a very good Point Loma Nazarene team, and fell, 81-71.  The Screaming Eagles fought to the end, and Stein scored 18 of his 22 in the second half.....and, in the second half of his final game, Alex Stein became the all-time leading scorer in the proud history of Southern Indiana basketball, and finished his career with 2,219.
Congratulations, Alex Stein, on a remarkable career!  Well done!  I tip my cap.... it was a pleasure to witness......

Selain memiliki usaha, Anda pun menciptakan lingkungan yang lebih hijau melalui reproduksi barang barang limbah. 9. Jasa Penerjemah Kuatnya arus globalisasi belakangan ini menuntut setiap orang setidaknya mengerti bahasa asing, seperti bahasa Inggris, Arab, Jepang, hingga Mandarin. Once a Huskie, Always a Wolf  #IsaiahThomas
5 foot Huskie Tacoma, Washington – Feb 7th 1989 Over rated, not good enough, too small, wont last. These words entered the mind of young man who had dreams bigger than any man who has blessed the league, doubt and uncertainty couldn’t stop the GIANT that is Isaiah Thomas (not THAT Isaiah Thomas, the younger one).
Thomas attended Curtis Senior High School in University Place, Washington. At Curtis, Thomas averaged 31.2 points as a junior Not bad for a little guy huh?  On March 12, 2011 Thomas scored 28 points and hit a game-winning buzzer beater in overtime to lead the Huskies to victory over Arizona in the championship game of the Pac-10 tournament. He was among the final ten candidates for the Bob Cousy Award in his junior season.
Thomas was drafted as the 60th pick by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the 2011 NBA draft. He was the final pick in the draft. On February 19, 2012, Thomas recorded his first double-double with 23 points and 11 assists against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Impressive….but have you seen the beast that is The Pizza Boy this season!? Career Avg: PPG - 18.4 APG - 5.2 SPG - 2.6 2016-2017 Season PPG - 29.4 APG – 6.4 SPG - 2.7 Last 10 Games PPG – 34.3 APG – 7.2 SPG – 3.2 With a name like his you know he’s destined for greatness. #BaselineBuckets

Tapi ternyata isu dunia maya berikut pelintirannya, berbalik cepat seketika.
Arus berbalik dua kali lipat. Laris. Laris. Laris, beib!”
Jauh hari sebelum para pakar hoax menjadi profesi, orang-orang marketing pabrik rokok ini sudah diuji dengan perang dagang sesungguhnya, menguasai toko demi toko, kampung demi kampung. Ukuran karier mereka jelas.
Rokok putih memakai jenis tembakau virginia. Karakter tembakau virginia memang mirip kertas. Apalagi kalau basah. Sudah pasti mirip kertas.
Mereka, para jagoan marketing pabrik rokok, sudah biasa anjlok bersama isu. Djarum pernah diterpa isu: ‘Demi Jesus Aku Rela Untuk Mati’. Omzet langsung jatuh. Tapi kemudian mereka bisa bangkit lagi.
Contoh lain.
Bajilak, bukan?
Hal seperti inilah yang membuat para aktivis antirokok selalu kemut-kemut. Pusing.
Tanpa perlu membaca isinya. Atau disebarkan dulu, baru dibaca kemudian.
Jangan kecewa, ya…
*tersenyum culas*

Detroit Pistons Acquire Jerami Grant in Sign-And-Trade Deal
Tumblr media
On November 22nd, 2020, the Denver Nuggets signed-and-traded forward Jerami Grant and traded the draft rights of Nikola Radičević to the Detroit Pistons for cash considerations. Denver also received a trade exception.
After a second round loss in the 2019 NBA playoffs, the Denver Nuggets knew they needed some athleticism and length on the wing to become a legitimate contender.
A 6-foot-8 wing with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Jerami Grant was an optimal fit. His ability to guard multiple positions while developing a respectable perimeter shot made him the perfect complement.
To acquire Grant, the Nuggets dealt a 2020 first round pick and fit Grant into a trade exception created from a previous trade involving Wilson Chandler. The deal involved no other players, meaning Grant was set to join an intact nucleus.
With rising expectations for the 2019-20 season, the Nuggets lived up to the hype early on, beginning the year with a 13-3 record. Though the team suffered some losses, by the end of Christmas day it was second in the West with a 21-9 record.
Denver would cool down slightly, but was still third in the West after 65 games with a 43-22 mark. At this point, the NBA season was paused for nearly five months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the NBA season resumed in the summer with an Orlando, Florida-based bubble format, Denver was 3-5 in eight regular season bubble games to finish out the regular season with a 46-27 record. It was good for third in the West.
Grant joined a crowded frontcourt and played most of the 2019-20 season as a reserve for Denver but filled in at times as a starter at both forward positions. He appeared in 71 games (24 starts) and managed 12.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 1.2 APG, 0.7 SPG and 0.8 BPG in 26.6 MPG.
In the opening round, the Nuggets faced a Utah Jazz led by the scoring star Donovan Mitchell and defensive stalwart Rudy Gobert.
Mitchell dueled with Jokić and Jamal Murray down the stretch of the opener which went into overtime. Mitchell scored 57 points and had 26 of his team’s final 32 points in the final 11:29 of action.
Murray and Jokić combined for 65 points and had 30 of Denver’s final 37 points in a 135-125 Nuggets overtime win. In Game Two, the Jazz responded well, building a 31-point edge in a 124-105 win. The third game continued the Jazz offensive onslaught as they took the game by 37 points.
With Denver struggling defensively, head coach Michael Malone made the decision to insert the defensive-minded Grant and guard Monte Morris into the starting lineup over rookie Michael Porter Jr. and Torrey Craig.
The move seemed to pay off as Denver was much closer in Game Four. Mitchell had 51 points and Murray recorded 50 in a back and forth matchup. Mitchell had 18 points in the fourth quarter as Utah held off Denver to win 129-127.
Facing elimination, Denver tried to get back in the series. Utah led by as much as 12 with 3:35 left in the third quarter, but the Nuggets outscored Utah 45-23 over the last 15-plus minutes to stave off elimination with a 117-107 victory.
Murray was spectacular in Game Six, helping the Nuggets pull away late, scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter and 50 overall as Denver forced a seventh and final contest with a 119-107 win.
The series decider was close. Unlike the first six games, both Denver and Utah failed to reach 100 points and shot under 40%. Jokić gave the Nuggets an 80-78 lead with 27 seconds left after a hook shot.
On Utah’s final possessions, Mitchell turned the ball over with eight seconds left and after the Nuggets missed a layup Mike Conley missed a three at the buzzer that would have given Utah the series. The Nuggets took the first round matchup 4-3.
In the opening round, Grant appeared in all seven games and amassed 11.3 PPG on 41.7% from the field, 3.4 RPG, 1.4 APG and 1.0 BPG in 34.1 MPG.
The Nuggets advanced to a next round duel with the Los Angeles Clippers. Los Angeles went on a key 49-24 run from the first to third quarter to easily take the series opener 120-97.
Denver built a 44-25 first quarter lead in Game Two and led by 19 points early in the third quarter. Los Angeles made a run and cut the deficit to five points. Jokić (26 points and 18 rebounds) and Gary Harris combined for three buckets to allow the Nuggets to regain control and they took the contest 110-101 and tied the series 1-1.
In the third game, Paul George had 32 points for the Clippers and his team outscored the Nuggets 29-19 in the fourth quarter. The Clippers won the game 113-107. Los Angeles took an 18-point lead in Game Four before the Nuggets went on a run and tied the game at 48 early in the second half. A 21-5 run by the Clippers led to a 96-85 team win and a 3-1 series lead for Los Angeles.
Facing the 3-1 series deficit for the second consecutive series. Denver trailed by 16 points in the first half of Game Five. Nuggets veteran Paul Millsap led a run in the third quarter with 14 individual points. Murray scored 26 points in a 111-105 comeback victory making the series 3-2. In the sixth contest, Los Angeles led by 16 points at halftime. Denver dominated the second half 64-35 and had a key 30-8 run in a 111-98 win.
Game Seven saw Los Angeles build a 12-point advantage in the first half but the game momentum quickly switched again. Murray dropped 40 points and Jokić put up a triple double as Denver outscored the Clippers 50-33 in the second half. The Nuggets completed the 3-1 series comeback with a 104-89 victory.
The second round saw Grant struggle on offense, recording 9.0 PPG on 34.5% from the field and 25.7% from the three-point line), 3.0 RPG, 1.1 APG and 1.0 BPG in seven games. He did provide solid defense, guarding both Leonard and George more than any Nugget throughout the series.
The Nuggets made it to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 11 years and matched up the Los Angeles Lakers and the superstar tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
In the opener, Davis starred with 37 points and 10 rebounds and the Lakers outscored the Nuggets 67-41 in the second and third quarters as they easily won 126-114.
Game Two looked like it was headed in a similar direction. Los Angeles built a 10-point edge at halftime. However, Denver managed to stay within arms reach. Late in the action, Jokić converted a hook shot with 20.8 seconds left, giving Denver a 103-102 lead.
The Lakers missed their next two shots but managed to regain possession after both misses. With 2.1 seconds left, Davis broke free after a defensive switching mixup involving Grant and Mason Plumlee and nailed a fadeaway three at the buzzer off an inbounds play to win Game Two 105-103.
Jokić and Murray scored a ton for Denver in the first two games but hadn’t received much help from a third scorer. In Game Three, the Nuggets had control for much of the game. Jokić and Murray combined for 50 points, but a major key was Grant who had several drives and managed to get to the foul line to score a playoff career-high 26 points. Denver managed to make the series 2-1 with a 114-106 win.
youtube
In Game Four, Davis and James put up a combined 60 points and the Lakers dominated the paint with a 25-6 advantage in second chance points in a 114-108 Lakers victory.
Los Angeles built a 15-point lead in the third quarter of Game Five. Grant led a comeback as Denver managed to tie, but James (38 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists) wouldn’t allow another comeback as he scored 16 points in the final frame to give the Lakers the 117-107 win and the 4-1 series victory. Grant had 20 points in the loss.
For the Conference Finals, Grant put up 15.8 PPG on 45.6% from the field and 30.8% from the three-point line), 3.6 RPG, 1.4 APG and 1.2 SPG in five games.
Though his perimeter shooting could be spotty at times, Grant’s performance in Denver’s magical playoff run was impressive and helped his case for a significant payday in free agency.
Grant often guarded the opponent’s best offensive option in every series. This included the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and LeBron James. And he had some big performances offensively as well.
There were signs of concern however. Grant’s on-off numbers were usually in the negative all season despite Denver’s overall positive performance. During the regular season, the Nuggets were outscored by 2.2 points per 100 possessions in the 1,892 minutes Grant was on the floor. The team was plus-7.4 points per 100 possessions when he was on the floor.
Grant’s numbers on the floor with Jokić also were negative which stood out considering how veteran Paul Millsap’s net rating with Jokić was positive. There was some noise in the numbers such as Millsap playing mostly with the starters.
Tumblr media
After the season, Grant opted out of the $9.3 million final year of his contract and became a free agent. Though Denver offered him a three-year, $60 million deal, he opted to take the same exact figure deal with the Detroit Pistons. The move was a surprise considering Denver’s recent Western Conference Finals finish and the surplus of talent the roster had compared to Detroit’s status as a rebuilding team.
In an effort to recoup something for Grant, the Nuggets signed and traded him to the Pistons along with the draft rights to a 2015 second round pick Nikola Radičević. A 6-foot-6 guard, Radičević played professionaly in Spain, Serbia and Italy and had never come over to the NBA, though he played for the Nuggets in 2017 Summer League.
Grant wanted a much more featured role as a featured scorer and leader, something the Pistons could offer him. Other key factors mentioned were the fact that the team’s head coach and lead front office decision maker were Black men and Detroit’s place as the Blackest major city in America.
The Grant move created a $9.5 million trade exception for the Nuggets. Denver later used $4.2 million of that exception to acquire JaVale McGee in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the 2021 trade deadline. The deal left the club with a $5.3 million trade exception which expired in August of 2021.
Grant joined a Pistons team lacking direction. The team’s new general manager Troy Weaver was heavily ridiculed for a seeming obsessive pursuit of centers. The team drafted center Isaiah Stewart in the first round and also signed centers Mason Plumlee and Jahlil Okafor in free agency. The team also traded for centers Dewayne Dedmon and Tony Bradley.
Dedmon and Bradley were quickly removed via release and trade respectively, but the pile of pivots arriving to Detroit’s roster was remarkable.
Grant started at the small forward position and was a pleasant surprise for the Pistons. He had just nine points in his 2020-21 team debut but proceeded to record at least 20 points in 14 straight games.
In that stretch, Grant produced 26.3 PPG on 46.6% from the field and 40.6% from the three-point line drawing early All-Star and Most Improved Player consideration.
Grant’s performance also highlighted his decision to step into a larger role which drew skepticism around the league since he had never been more than a 3-and-D contributor, meaning he played defense and primarily operated in the offense as a finisher rather than a shot creator or passer.
Grant cooled down, but continued throughout the season to have large moments such as a 43-point explosion against the Chicago Bulls in February.
youtube
Late in the season, Grant missed nine out of the last 10 games due to right knee soreness. The forward ended the 20-21 season with 22.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, 0.6 SPG and 1.1 BPG in 54 games and 33.9 MPG.
During the season, Detroit was one of the worst teams in the NBA. With former All-Star Blake Griffin having all of his talents sapped from a laundry list of injuries, there was an opportunity for Grant to step up but at the same time was a reason for concern in how the Pistons would fare during the 2020-21 season.
The Pistons began the year 1-7 and continued to lose. As the season wore on, veterans Derrick Rose and Griffin were traded and bought out respectively leaving the Pistons as one of the younger rosters in the NBA. Just 26th in offensive efficiency, Detroit finished the year with the second worst record in the NBA with a 20-52 record.
One of the surprises of the NBA season, Grant finished second in voting for Most Improved Player of the Year voting behind New York Knicks forward Julius Randle.
After Detroit’s miserable regular season, the team ended up winning the draft lottery and selected highly touted prospect Cade Cunningham with the first overall pick.
With Cunningham in the fold and the previous draft class of Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart all on the roster, Detroit was officially in its rebuild. At 27, Grant was a wise sage of the roster.
Detroit began the 2021-22 season 1-8. The losses continued to pile up as the team was 4-24 after 28 games.
Grant’s efficiency numbers took a dive early on and after playing in 24 of the first 25 games, he missed 25 games from December into February after undergoing surgery to repair a UCL sprain in his right thumb.
By the time he returned, the Pistons were 12-37 and on their way to another lottery pick. Near the trade deadline, Grant was one of the hottest names on the trade market.
With just one year remaining on the three-year deal, there was concern for the Pistons on if they would be able to retain Grant at an ideal price. Teams like the Portland Trailblazers, Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards were reported to have interest but nothing came of the rumors.
Grant finished out his second season in Detroit, participating in 47 games (all starts) and posting 19.2 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.9 SPG and 0.8 BPG in 31.9 MPG.
Shortly before the 2022 draft, the Pistons finally dealt Grant with one year left on his contract. They moved the forward to the Portland Trailblazers with the number 46 overall pick in the draft for a protected 2025 first round pick from the Milwaukee Bucks and three second round picks including the number 36 pick from the 2022 draft.
Though Grant and the Pistons failed to string together many wins in two years, Grant’s evolution into a decent primary scoring option was a revelation. In 101 games, the forward averaged 20.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.6 APG, 0.8 SPG and 1.1 BPG. Grant shot 43% from the field, 35% from the three-point line and 84% from the free-throw line.
Though Grant did trade in some efficiency in his offensive evolution, there was proof that he could be a featured scorer in an offense rather than a background player who fills in the gaps off the ball.
Soon after the Grant trade, the Pistons dealt Nikola Radičević’s draft rights to the New York Knicks in a deal that saw them acquire Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel and two future second round picks.
Jerami Grant on the decision to choose Detroit over Denver (via Detroit Free Press):
“It was tough. I was in a situation where I was comfortable. I loved my teammates, I loved the organization. It was a lot of things that made me teeter between my decision. But at the end of the day, I made the best decision for me and my career. My growth as a player is extremely important to me. It was a challenge, the challenge intrigued me. I made my decision and I’m happy with it.”
How a previous relationship with Troy Weaver impacted his decision (via The Denver Post):
“We go way back. It impacted it a lot. Just our relationship. It’s definitely a trust thing there. I trust him, he trusts me. It played a big impact on my decision.”
How he’s accepting the challenge of a larger role:
“It was the belief that Troy had in me, and the belief I had in myself. I knew this would be a challenge, and I’m open to challenges. It definitely wasn’t a no-brainer. Definitely was a tough decision for me.”
Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver on Jerami Grant (via Detroit Free Press):
“Jerami was number one on the list to go after. His versatility, his growing, budding offense, but more importantly, what he brings everyday to the Pistons. He’s a guy who works hard, he’s professional, he’s a great teammate. All the things we embody.”
How he’s improved his skills on the court:
“Jerami has really worked on his game, become an outstanding 3-point shooter. There’s more there. He’s come here because it’s a big challenge. I’m going to challenge him to become the best Jerami he can become. I expect him to continue to grow. I don’t campaign for players but I’ll say this right now — this guy is worthy of being an all-defensive player, for sure.
“The defensive mindset, who he is, the offense that people were able to see blossom in the bubble, which he brings to us here in Detroit now, along with his youth, he’s 26 years old. Just hitting his prime. We’re excited about everything he brings to the table as a young man and as a player.”
Denver Nuggets president of basketball operations Tim Connelly on Grant’s decision to choose Detroit over the Nuggets (via The Denver Post):
“Jerami’s a great guy and a really good player. He earned the right to be in unrestricted free agency. The whole time we were very encouraged. We were under the assumption we would get something done. Jerami, he wanted a new opportunity, a new challenge. He’s going to do great in Detroit.
“Detroit did a great job targeting him and recruiting him. Certainly was a bit surprising and disappointing, but we thank Jerami for all he did in the year here.”

Recent Observations
Just a few recent observations:
*  Tevin Olison, a 6′4″ redshirt senior guard from the University of the Cumberlands, is fantastic!  He’s long, and he can defend, score, pass..... Tevin can flat-out play!  He’s on a short list of the very best players in the NAIA this season.  Thus far, he’s led the Patriots to a 14-5 record (against tough competition) and he’s averaging 23.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.8 apg and 1.7 spg while shooting over 52% fg & 41% 3-pt fg.  He leads the team in scoring, assists and steals.  Tevin is really good, and he’s leading a talented team to an excellent season thus far.
*  Shawnee State is in the midst of an excellent season.  The Bears are now 16-2 and have won 12 straight.  Seniors James Jones and EJ Onu and leading the way for the Bears.  Jones is a 6′4″ athletic wing who is averaging 19.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 4.6 apg, while Onu is a strong, dominating 6′11″ big man that is averaging 17.3 ppg, 8.6 rpg and 4.1 bpg while shooting over 60% fg and 45% 3-pt fg.
*  In this past weekend’s series between Midwestern State and Dallas Baptist, the two games were decided by a total of two points, with Dallas Baptist winning both of them.  In the first game, Chandler Jacobs hit a three in the last minute to give the Patriots the win.  Here are the video highlights from this fantastic game:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vHOnWUTG2c&feature=youtu.be.  The finish to the second game was rather incredible.  Midwestern State hit a free throw with .6 (6/10 of a second), which appeared to seal the win for the Mustangs.  Dallas Baptist threw it to halfcourt and called timeout with .3 of a second left.  From there, Carson Hughes threw a pinpoint inbounds pass for the alley oop to Jalen White, who tapped it downward into the hoop as the buzzer sounded, for the win.  Just remarkable!  Here are the highlights, including the game winner:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSyOnEvQTIc&feature=youtu.be  As a note, this Dallas Baptist is now 9-1, and this is a really good, balanced team.  They are talented, well-coached, and....well, they are just really good!  Chandler Jacobs is likely to garner a lot of the headlines - and justifiably so.  He’s a stud. Strong. Athletic. Plays hard. He’s just really good!  I want to emphasize that this team has many good players and plays well together....yet I also want to emphasize that Chandler Jacobs is a stud!  Enjoy this highlight video from his junior season:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUKa47boA6A
*  For Olivet Nazarene, the duo of Alex Gross and John Contant is playing really well.  Gross is a 6′10″ junior who is averaging 21.4 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 4 bpg & 3.2 apg while shooting over 61% fg and 82% ft.  Contant is a 6′3″ senior who is averaging 21.1 ppg, 5.4 apg and 4.6 rpg.  Heck of a duo.....
