veronica mars rewatch 2x04: green-eyed monster
• “The only way I’d ever make 2 grand a week working at the Hut is if they installed a pole.”
• not Wallace’s like 8 year old brother asking if Wallace is “hitting that” 💀
• uh so that guy following Wallace’s mom around has a criminal record? and is a federal agent? Somethings not right here…
• oh god I remember Meg’s parents. they’re like abusive and weird and there’s an incident where they lock their youngest in a closet for days or something?
• why do I feel like this woman who thinks her fiancé is cheating is doing the cheating?
• oh the Fitzpatricks sound really familiar..
• “What with the hoops? If I rub your head do I get three wishes?”
• “If I know I’m being brought in, I’ll put on my good underwear.”
“You should really do that anyway.”
Weevil and Veronica are the best and while I like the relationship they have now, I also lowkey would’ve liked to have seen them hook up.
• fuck off Jackie god damn
• I mean like I (kinda) get feeling threatened by your boyfriend’s best friend who’s a girl because that’s just like…what happens but also. a.) it’s really not like that between Veronica and Wallace b.) Veronica was friends with Wallace first and c.) friendships top relationships (imo)
also Veronica is just much more personable and interesting
• I’m confused as to why Wallace had to knock on the door and distract the guy while Veronica downloaded his files. Like he wasn’t even looking over her shoulder at what she was doing on his computer.
• Jesus this woman is so dramatic!!
• damn lol Keith really does know everything
• except that this guy was a cop lol
• omg Veronica’s wearing a shirt that says “live happily ever now” with a rainbow and I have a shirt that says that! rainbow and all (different design though)
• yeah I remember this guy was Wallace’s dad but I don’t remember Alicia having a double identity at alll
• also this shit with the bus crash is confusing. why did Weevil receive an anonymous phone call saying Curly Moran the stunt coordinator who turned up dead with Veronica’s name written on his hand, was responsible for the bus crash? And why was the call from Aaron Echolls?
• damn I wonder what lie Alisha fed Wallace about his dad

Every school has an obligatory psychotic jackass. He’s ours.
It has been one year since The Incident. In celebration of this beautiful, snarky, dynamic, passionate, beloved, smug, asshole, essential, etc., etc., character I have complied a lengthy (but by no means exhaustive) collection of some of my personal favorite fics focusing on Logan, or on his relationships, or fics that i just think do something neat in terms of Logan/his journey/his character. ❤️
Tumblr media
Previously on vmficrecs:
dark_roast, “Fish Out of Water,” Mature, Post Season 1 AU
Logan opts to leave Neptune, and spend summer vacation with his grandparents.
Notes: This AU is essential reading if you love Logan. His characterization is nearly perfect, and the premise of the fic is endlessly engaging and smart.
wily_one24, “Sleep, Perchance...,” Mature, Pre-series AU
Logan thaws towards Veronica and sets out to save her.
Notes: I want to eat this fic. If you’ve never read it, read it-- it will linger endlessly inside of your brain in the best way possible. So many of the things Logan does or says in this fic exist in a very tangible and palpable manner for me, it’s that good. I think about it constantly.
ghostcat, “What We Have in Common,” Teen, Post Season 3 AU
Weevil Navarro, his incredibly poor choice of a research paper prepping locale and the close talking, finger waving jackass that interrupts and effectively hijacks his night. Set in 2010, three years after The Bitch is Back.
ghostcat, “A Trace of Meaning,” Teen, Pre-series
13 year-old Logan Echolls and 14 year-old Veronica Mars wait at the Kane Estate for their held-up sleepover hosts to show up.
theohara, “Rich Dirt,” Mature, Pre-series AU
And Logan wouldn’t let you have anything. He’d danced over to you and smirked in your face and twirled your plastic cup right out of your hand and cooed that just because your Daddy wasn’t sheriff anymore didn’t give you license to break the law, and he’d acted all shocked with his hand over his mouth and he’d laughed like breaking glass and nanced off with your drink.
anjou, “Into the Blue,” Mature, Post Season 1
It’s almost summer, and Logan is sinking into the blue.
flyingcarpet, “Mexicali Blues,” Mature, Post Season 3 AU
When he reaches the water he doesn’t hesitate, just keeps walking until he can duck his head under and start to swim away from shore, letting the salt and the waves wash away the residue that Neptune’s left on his skin.
absolutelyiris, “Truth for a Dream,” Teen, Future Fic (Pre-movie)
Fleet Week 2012. A reformed bad boy turned sailor and a former party girl turned career woman meet in a bar…
Notes: A LOGAN AND PARKER FRIENDSHIP FIC!!! pure fucking delight
absolutelyiris, “Come Around,” Mature, Future AU
A woman travels the world over in search of what she needs and returns home to find it.
Notes: I will talk about this fic until the day that I day, and then I will still talk about it. One of my absolute favorites. Pure gold Logan/Keith dynamic. I would 10/10 die for Razia. and, of course, the l/v is so damn good
TheLastGoodGolfish, “The Phenomenal Pixie, #1,” Teen, AU
Veronica is a masked avenger who stalks the streets of Neptune. Logan is the intrepid reporter who’s on the story.
Notes: PERFECT. PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT. also-- “That’s ridiculous. My favorite person is a sorority girl.” in my head, rent free, and i am forever indebted.
bryrosea, “Waste of Breath / A Quartz Contentment,” Mature, Post Season 2 to TDTL
Part one: Logan Echolls, the nine years, and the Navy. Part two: Veronica Mars, the nine years, and a new normal.
Notes: I am recommending specifically “Waste of Breath” for my boy, although Veronica’s piece is excellent as well.
always_winter, “Written Out,” Teen, Season 2 AU
Duncan has some residual guilt and Logan wants to be left out of the story.
always_winter, “White Combs and Sweet Honey,” Mature, Season 1
Even when Aaron is trying to be a good father, there’s still a lot he’s doing wrong.
Notes: This fic is so tender to me!!! A beautiful Logan and Aaron piece.
sadiekate, “Grand Canyon,” PG-13, Season 1 to Future AU
Three friends reminisce several years in the future, snarkily and pointlessly.
sinaddict, “Necrosis,” Explicit, Season 2 AU
Death in bits and pieces, denial as a religion… Or ‘normal’ in Neptune.
sowell, “Surviving the Wreck,” Explicit, Season 3 AU
Nothing’s ever simple with Veronica Mars. Weevil’s day at sea gets a little complicated.
Notes: THIS FUCKING FIC!!!! i love everything about it and especially at this moment in time, the part where logan gives weevil a blow job but weevil notes that somehow, in spite of this, logan retains the upper hand. this fic is world class and i am grateful everyday for it
theohara, “Broken Toys,” NC-17, Pre series AU
One glance across a street saves Lilly Kane’s life. It changes everything; it changes nothing.
Notes: This is the most heartbreaking Veronica Mars’ fanfic ever. I have such a deep love for it. It takes Lilly’s character and Logan/Veronica’s relationship to places I don’t ever think they would go and yet it works in this and it works so damn well. a truly devastating and beautiful au
fluffernutter8, “The Ninety Nine Percent,” Teen, Post Season 3 AU
Junior year of college, Logan gets some news that proves that no matter how hard he tries, life is just going to keep throwing him curve-balls. Post season 3, non movie canon compliant.
youcallitwinter, “gravity is gonna keep you tied down to this city,” Teen, Post Season 3 to TDTL
[your life in extended parenthesis] the lone neon nights and the ache of the ocean, and the fire that was starting to spark. From the love to the lightning and the lack of it.
Notes: please don't fall out of love with me, okay? don’t you dare give up on me. I DIE EVERY FUCKING TIME youcallitwinter is a force with all of her writings, but this one.......my god every single bit about it is fucking flawless
petpluto, “Of Scars & Consequences,” Teen, Post-series AU
Almost a decade in the future, Logan's still a little messed up. And Veronica's still a little closed off. They make it work.
julietbravo, “one brutal thing after another,” Teen, Pre-series to Season 1
These rich boys think they can get away with anything, don’t they.
querulousgawks, “there should be stars for great wars like ours,” Teen, AU
It’s gotta be some Alliance mind game, a holdover, the Operative’s last trick: Logan’s old secrets manifesting everywhere around them. Where are you, how are you doing this, he wants to scream, but he doesn’t know which ghost he’d be railing at.
SilverLining2k6, “Sometimes (You Can’t Make It On Your Own),” Teen, Season 1 AU
Silly Duncan stopped taking his meds. Now, one dead Fitzpatrick later, Logan and Veronica need to get him out of town. Too bad they hate each other.
SilverLining2k6, “Control,” Teen, Pre-series AU
Don’t you mess with a little girl’s dreams. ‘Cause she’s liable to grow up mean. Pre-series. Oneshot. - A twisted little tale of hate and revenge.
Notes: CONTROL!!!!! I love Control so much, it’s one of the first fics I ever read for the fandom and one of the finest. The Logan that exists in this is sooo good and his relationship with Veronica is deeply flawed & wonderful. M is in the process of writing a remix to Control (more in-depth emotion) and I for one am foaming at the fucking mouth every day about it.
nevertothethird, “Reunions,” Teen, Post Series AU
Sometimes it just takes a little longer to get things right. Two high school reunions and a birthday party should do the trick.
youcallitwinter, “you give love a bad name,” Teen, Season 2 AU
“Hey, did you guys know there was a sensitive poet-type hiding behind this hard exoskeleton of expensive alcohol and bitter cynicism?” In which Logan Echolls is, well, Logan Echolls.
scandalpants, “Something to Remember,” Mature, Post Series AU
Facing a separation, Logan and Veronica spend their last night together exchanging gifts.
Notes: I am always in a goddamn state about this fic. Logan jacking off in front of Veronica at her request? Yes, thank you please. thank you so much
leurocrystal, “Take Your Time,” Teen, Post Season 2
Keith doesn’t know how to look at or touch his daughter for the first time in his life.
petpluto, “We Are Nowhere, And It’s Now,” Mature, Series AU
“You know there is another way of looking at this, Logan. If you’d still been together, you might be dead too." Logan and Lilly both die on October 3rd. But for Veronica, it’s not like they’re gone. And she still works to solve their murders.
absolutelyiris, “Delay,” Teen, Post TTDL
Logan reflects on his first Christmas with Veronica after a ten year separation, as well as how his life has changed with her absence.
New to vmficrecs:
Christmas in Arkham Author: dark_roast Pairing: Logan Rating: Teen Genre: Hurt/Comfort, A Really Good Hug  Setting: Season 2 Spoilers: 2.09, “My Mother, the Fiend” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 10128 Status: Complete Summary: Sequel to Fish Out of Water. Logan spends christmas with his grandparents.  Notes: This is, full stop, my favorite Veronica Mars fanfiction ever. I am so protective of this fic that part of me doesn’t even want to give it a formal place on the blog, which is ridiculous because I’m sure plenty of people have already read it and obviously it’s so good that I want people to read it but....this belongs to me, somehow, like I feel like it’s mine that’s how much I love it. ANYWAY possessiveness aside-- Every word, every sentence, every punctuation mark in this fic is perfect, devastating insight into Logan’s character. Absolutely beautiful and wonderful and every other good thing.
The Teeth by the Shoulder Author: ghostcat Pairing: Fab Four, Logan/Lilly, Veronica/Duncan  Rating: Teen Genre: Friendship, Angst  Setting: Pre-series Spoilers: 1.01, “Pilot”  Chapters: 3 Word Count: 17273 Status: Complete Summary: Two couples, two friendships. The Fab Four in three Octobers. Notes: WE’VE NEVER FUCKING RECOMMENDED THE TEETH BY THE SHOULDER BEFORE?????? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE OH MY GOD jesus this is one of the greatest fanfictions ever written. three pre-series explorations into the fab four friendship and it is impossibly good. i am especially in love with the logan/lilly in this fic (the first chapter!!!!) and as always special care is given to exploring the logan + veronica dynamic. the third chapter will break your fucking heart so bad in the best way
Seven Times Logan Echolls Went to Jail Author: sowell Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Veronica/Piz  Rating: Teen Genre: Angst, Romance, Logan Echolls is a Little Shit   Setting: (Post) Season 3 AU  Spoilers: 3.12, “There’s Got to Be a Morning After Pill” and 3.16, “Un-American Graffiti”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 6701 Status: Complete Summary: Who thinks Logan behind bars is sexy? I do, I do! // Logan goes to jail and calls Veronica to bail him out. Again and again and again and again.  Notes: WE HAVEN’T DONE THIS BEFORE EITHER???? oh my god!! I remember finding this one a few months before the movie came out and i would just lay in bed in the dark and re-read it endlessly. and then i left it alone for a few years and when i went back to it holy shit it undid me all over again. perfect logan and veronica relationship. p e r f e c t!!! i firmly believe this is exactly what shape their relationship would’ve taken if veronica hadn’t cut and run
Love is Just a Four-letter Word Author: bigboobedcanuck Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Keith, Weevil  Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort Setting: Future AU  Spoilers: 1.12, “Clash of the Tritons”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 1753 Status: Complete Summary: Set a few years down the road from high school. Logan hits rock bottom. Keith and Veronica help him back up. Notes: Lynn’s body turns up and it is fucking DEVASTATING. A short piece that’s told from Keith’s POV (anyone who knows me knows how much of a sucker I am for Keith + Logan interaction) and holy hell Logan is so good in it and I think about it all the fucking time
Serendipity  Author: TheLastGoodGoldfish  Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Veronica/Piz, Carrie, Gia, Stu Cobbler, Ensemble Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Detective-ing  Setting: Post Season 3  Spoilers: 3.20, “The Bitch is Back” and The Movie  Chapters: 4 (out of a planned 6, fingers crossed!!!) Word Count: 59763 Status: Complete Summary: During her sophomore year at Hearst, Veronica takes on your run-of-the-mill blackmail case: the clients hate her, the evidence is impossible to destroy, and her ex turns out to be a bit of a distraction, but Veronica is a sucker for a damsel-in-distress. Even if the damsel is an intoxicated, pissed off Carrie Bishop. Notes: I AM HIGH PITCHED SCREAMING. Transplanting the movie plot to this timeframe works tremendously and TLGG’s execution is fucking perfect. Carrie is a powerhouse in this fic and god, Logan is such a honey it in which is why it is being recc’d for him. Him practically letting Carrie move in with him and doing his damnedest to protect Carrie and Gia (much to Veronica’s chagrin) is so, so important to me and I love him so much.
The Phenomenal Pixie - Interlude #1 - “Bugs”  Author: TheLastGoodGoldfish Pairing: Logan/Veronica, OC’s  Genre: Humor, Fluff, Logan and Veronica Are Smarter Than You  Setting: AU (Season 3)  Spoilers: uhhh n/a Chapters: 1 Word Count: 5072 Status: Complete Summary: Dating a superhero poses a unique set of challenges. Notes: Tiny sequel to The Phenomenal Pixie which you absolutely must read first (and is recommended above) because it’s a fucking delight. Logan is incredible in this fic and I would die for him, like always. The part where Steve can sense Logan is thinking about punching him in the face-- a million chefs kisses.
The Medusa Jewel  Author: TheLastGoodGoldfish Pairing: Logan/Veronica  Genre: Established Relationship Bliss, Fluff  Setting: MKAT Spoilers: MKAT  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 5336 Status: Complete Summary: Logan and Veronica's new neighbor is a writer. Notes: is my TLGG obsession shining through? good because it fucking should be. The Logan/Veronica in this relationship is so sweet and perfect and is 100% my reality and i would like to bathe in this fic and live in it forever as is my right.
Drowning Together Author: bryrosea Pairing: Logan/Veronica Genre: Romance, Hurt/Comfort Setting: Season 3 Spoilers: 3.07, “Of Vice and Men” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 897 Status: Complete Summary: AU of the confrontation scene from 3x07: Of Vice and Men (Logan and Veronica both need a hug) Notes: Absolute wonderful insight and even some reconciliation into a canonical season three fight. Logan calming down while Veronica falls apart as they hug is so important to me.
Interrupt Us  Author: bryrosea Pairing: Logan/Veronica Genre: Romance,  Hijinks, They Want To Fuck So Bad  Setting: Post TDTL Spoilers: through TDTL  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 17223 Status: Complete Summary: Logan Echolls is home from deployment. Time to cue the sweeping movie montage, right? Notes: Logan and Veronica try to have sex everywhere and it is my life force. The car scene when they get pulled over and Logan instinctively hiding under Veronica’s desk....god i love everyone in this bar
Ready to Go Author: Amberina Pairing: Logan/Duncan; Veronica  Genre: Friendship, Romance, Angst Setting: Post Season 1  Spoilers: not obvious but 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 6346 Status: Complete Summary: "Let's leave. Let's go. What's left in Neptune for us anyway?" (AKA Duncan, Logan and Veronica have wacky adventures on the road! Also angst.) Notes: Logan getting hissy and storming off from the car while Duncan and Veronica just watch him and then calling a taxi once he’s out of their sight is PEAK logan. I love boyfriends, even if they’re angst-ing in this, and they big time are.
Nashville On My Mind Author: hjcallipygian Pairing: Logan, Veronica, Duncan Genre: Friendship, Hijinks  Setting: Post Season 1 AU Spoilers: 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 1659 Status: Complete Summary: Every year, they take a road trip together. This year, it's to Nashville, Tennessee. Notes: i just spent forty minutes trying to find this fic to the point where i was genuinely concerned i had hallucinated it. it’s so fucking good. a sequel/prequel of sorts to grand canyon by sadiekate (recc’d in the previously section). logan is a mess and by god do i love him
Six Times Logan Echolls Got Wet Author: bryrosea, CarolineShea, ghostcat, kmd0107, marshmallowtasha, SilverLining2k6 Pairing: Logan/Veronica Rating: Teen Genre: Romance, Friendship, Hijinks Setting: Everywhere Spoilers: All series to MKAT  Chapters: 6 Word Count: 11568 Status: Complete Summary: aka: The Wet Henley ChroniclesSix stories in which we probably give Logan Echolls pneumonia, inspired by the movie's infamous wet henley. Set variously across the series and post-MKAT. Notes: each chapter is written by a different author, they’re all good but bryrosea’s chapter and silvery’s chapter are my favorites. set during the summer between season 1 & 2 and post season three respectively they do such a great job dealing with the fractious and tumultuous nature of Logan/Veronica’s relationship at the time and i love it so much
A Little Dysfunctionality Goes A Long Way  Author: fluffernutter8 Pairing: Logan/Veronica Rating: Teen Genre: ANGST with a side of fucking ANGST, happy ending but jesus   Setting: Post Season 3 AU  Spoilers: 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 2878 Status: Complete Summary: Despite their history, Logan and Veronica might be somewhere on the brink of normal. these are just ghosts that broke my heart before i met you Author: theviolonist  Pairing: Logan, Veronica, Carrie, Dick  Rating: Teen Genre: Introspection, Angst, I Love Logan   Setting: Pre Movie & Movie  Spoilers: Movie  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 1326 Status: Complete Summary: In the army they say, don't think of the target as a person, otherwise you won't have the guts to pull the trigger. Notes: fuck, you guys. this one is so beautiful. an exploration into logan’s grief and him trying to move on and it cuts like a damn knife because he can never really do it but fuck he wants to so bad and [lucas scott voice] that’s gotta mean something, right? truly so so wonderful
Fugue Author: vaeran Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Logan/Lilly, Dick  Rating: Teen Genre: Angst, hopeful ending  Setting: Post Season 1 Spoilers: 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 4137 Status: Complete Summary: It's something he refuses to let go because it defines who he is and what he has become. Notes: deviates from the PCHer confrontation on the bridge, which means logan takes a little longer to come around to reconciliation with veronica. it’s perfect and i particularly love the logan/lilly in this, he’s hurt but still so impossibly and eternally in love with her
One Flew Over the Echolls Nest Author: Wynn Pairing: Logan/Veronica, Duncan Rating: Teen Genre: Angst, Friendship Setting: Post Season 1 AU  Spoilers: 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 1507 Status: Complete Summary: Open wide and see what's inside. Congrats on 600 followers!!!! How about Logan/Veronica and "Are you doubting my acting skills?" and/or any one of your 76 Danielle/Henry modern AUs?
Oh, Sarah, I’d do anything for you! I will eventually write a Danielle/Henry modern AU and it shall be dedicated to you, but for now, here is some Logan/Veronica friends to lovers inspired fake dating setup shenanigans.
--- Title: look at me like you like me Fandom: Veronica Mars Pairing: Logan/Veronica (side Wallace/Parker) Other Characters: Wallace, Parker, a frequent switching of tenses b/c this is barely edited.  Additional Tags: Should be a multichapter probably, friends to lovers (or idiots to friends to lovers??), fake dating shenanigans, Wallace sees all and knows all Word Count: ~1,800 ---
Sitting at brunch, her plate piled high with pancakes, Veronica Mars wonders just how long her best-friend thought he could get away with this. Logan Echolls (said best-friend) is currently walking slowly back and forth in front of the restaurant as he talks on his phone. He isn’t speaking, which means his mother is in the middle of a persuasive monologue. And everyone at their table knows what that means.
“Charity gala?” Wallace asks.
“My money’s on a distant relative’s wedding,” Parker says.
“His parent’s anniversary is coming up,” Veronica says. “Could be their own party.”
“What will they celebrate?” Wallace asks. “Ten years of sleeping in separate rooms and ignoring one another’s affairs?”
“Regardless, I’m ready,” Parker says.
Okay. Apparently Veronica’s isn’t the only one thinking about Logan’s go-to family event strategy. “You think he’ll ask you?”
Parker frowns as she takes a sip of her coffee. “Why wouldn’t he?”
Veronica draws a line in the air, connecting Wallace and Parker. “Well, for one, you’re married now.”
“The people at these parties don’t know that,” Parker answers.
The woman has a point. Veronica turns to Wallace. “And you’re okay with this?”
“We’re living on two teacher’s salaries. If some wealthy man wants to be my wife’s platonic sugar daddy, who am I to stop him?”
“I wanted to buy a new dress for your brother’s graduation anyway,” Parker says.
“See! Perfect plan.” Wallace and Parker seal their agreement with a kiss and Veronica focuses on her pancakes. She cuts off a large bite with more force than strictly required and shovels the pancakes into her mouth.
She isn’t sure why this whole conversation needles her. Something about Parker’s certainty, Veronica supposes. That it is going to be Parker who Logan calls on. To be fair, Parker and Logan’s arrangement pre-dates Veronica’s friendship with either of them.
By the time Veronica met Parker their first year of grad school, Parker and Logan had been friends for four years. The pattern wherein Parker pretended to be Logan’s girlfriend at any and all society events his mother required him to attend was already well-established. Even after Veronica and Logan met, and it was quickly evident the two of them were destined to be platonic soulmates for the rest of their lives, it was still Parker that Logan turned to for help in these situations. Which, fair. Parker possesses levels of grace which Veronica can never hope to achieve.
Veronica is much more apt to give a Hollywood director in his fifties judgey facial expressions when he introduces her to his barely legal wife. (A real thing that happened at an Echolls family BBQ. At least it still makes Logan laugh all these years later.)
It just didn’t occur to Veronica that it would always be Parker. Especially now that Parker is married. What is going to happen when she and Wallace decide to have a baby? How will they prevent word of Logan Echolls’ pregnant girlfriend from making the tabloid rounds?
No. This is ridiculous.
“She’s definitely not listening,” Wallace says, disapprovingly.
“Some sort of fugue state?” Parker suggests.
“Could be.”
Veronica sighs. “What are you two talking about?”
“I wanted to know if it was all pancakes in general you seek to destroy, or if this one in particular had done something to upset you?”
Her first instinct is to glare at Wallace. And then at Parker when she sniggers. Introducing the two of them to one another is the worst decision she’s ever made. But then she looks down at her plate. Sure enough, at some point she traded in eating her pancakes for cutting them into smaller pieces and then smushing them into the maple syrup. They no longer resemble an edible object.
“I’m not hungry.”
“Sure,” Wallace says, taking a well-timed sip of his coffee. His expression is all smug and knowing.
Veronica is saved from additional Wallace stares and Parker sniggers by the return of Logan. He slides his phone into his blazer pocket and sits down beside Veronica, resting his arm on the back of Veronica’s chair. This is nothing new. Being best-friends with Logan means being comfortable with his rather tactile nature. But the look Logan’s action invites from Wallace is new. Veronica wants to spit at him. (Wallace. Not Logan.)
(Portrait of grace, indeed.)
“What happened here?” Logan asks, gesturing to Veronica’s pancakes.
“Nothing,” Veronica says. “What happened out there?”
Logan’s fingers still from where he is lightly tracing the contours of her shoulder. “My mom and dad are renewing their vows.”
For a moment all movement at their table ceases as they each take in this information. This despite Veronica's keen awareness of the fact that her guess was eerily close to being right.
“I’m sorry. What?” she asks.
“That was about my reaction,” Logan says. “Want my bacon?”
“Yes, please. They can’t be serious.”
Logan slides his slices of bacon onto Veronica’s plate. “Serious about drumming up some positive PR, absolutely. Aaron was spotted looking a little too friendly with a married co-star. So, he and mom are going on a romantic getaway to Italy. When they get back they’ll do a backyard vow renewal.”
“Logan—”
The man in question holds up a hand, stopping Parker’s softly spoken entreaty.
“No. I can’t do the talking about it thing right now. I can’t feel anything about it right now. What I need is a wedding date.”
“Of course,” Parker rushes to answer. “Just tell me when.”
“The weekend of June 11th.”
“Absolutely. Deal,” Parker says, nodding enthusiastically. “Consider it—,” she trails off, her gaze somewhere over Veronica’s shoulder.
“Consider it, what?” Logan asks.
“—Not something I can do.”
“Why not?”
“That’s graduation weekend,” Parker explains. “I’m the faculty speaker.”
“I’ll buy you shoes, too.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” Logan says. “This way I can get very drunk and not feel bad about it.”
Logan’s arm returns to the back of Veronica’s chair. This time his hand sort of hangs over her shoulder and curls around towards her clavicle. It makes it impossible to ignore details about Logan’s hands — the surprising delicacy of his fingers, the length of them, the weird knot on one of his knuckles.
“I’ll do it,” Veronica says.
“Do what?” Logan asks.
“Be your fake girlfriend for the sham vow renewal. I can do it.”
She refuses to look at anyone at the table. Not Parker. Sure as hell not Wallace.
(Seriously. Does he know something? Was it that night they all played King’s Cup and the two of them stayed up talking until 3:00 AM? Did she say something she wasn’t supposed to?)
And absolutely not Logan. She scrapes the edges of the smushed pancake with the tines of her fork.
“Veronica.” Logan’s voice is soft, but she detects a hint of incredulity. Which, maybe she’s wrong and he isn’t her best-friend and he doesn’t know her very well, because it raises her hackles.
She drops her fork. “What? Why not?”
“Look, I love you. You know I love you.” Veronica ignores the little skitter of her pulse at Logan’s words, furrows her brow, and concentrates on being offended. “And you know me better than anyone.”
“But?” She prompts.
“But,” he says, “you don’t really—”
Before Logan can finish, she comes up with a dozen ways to complete the sentence. There is plenty she doesn’t have —the class, the patience, the height, the sweetness, the glamor, the—
“—look at me like you like me,” Logan finishes.
“Wait. What?” Veronica’s eyes dart from Logan to Wallace to Parker. Neither one of them appear surprised by Logan’s words. In fact, Parker is faintly nodding in agreement. “Of course I like you. You’re my favorite person.” She thinks about this. “When you’re not being a total asshole.”
“I know that. But, your face makes it look like you want to slap me most of the time.”
“Because I do.”
“It’s just not the most conducive to convincing my mother to not set me up with the daughter of whichever producer she is trying to impress.”
“I’ll change my face.”
“Change it?”
“I can look like I like you.”
“Really?”
“I’ve been in love before, you know.” Veronica’s hackles are now standing at full attention. “Are you doubting my acting skills?”
“I would never,” Logan says.
“Good. Because I could be the sweetest goddamned fake girlfriend you’ve ever had.” Veronica turns to Parker. “No offense.”
“None taken.”
“I’ll even use pet names. Schmoopsie. Snuggle muffin. Sweet cheeks. What’s your preference?”
“My preference is none of them.”
Still, despite his words, Logan seems to consider it. Veronica takes the time to nibble on one of the slices of bacon from Logan’s plate. If she isn’t mistaken, Parker and Wallace kept shooting each other, what they probably believe to be, covert glances. What are those glances supposed to mean? Does Parker know something too? Damned married couples with their telling each other things.
“My mom does love you,” Logan eventually says.
“See, I already have a leg up,” Veronica says. “And I can absolutely rock a floor length gown.”
“Can you?”
“I was on homecoming court senior year.”
“You were?” She’s not certain which of the voices speaking in unison sound more shocked, Logan’s or Parker’s, but regardless she is deeply offended. She’ll look classy and hot as hell and that will show them.
“Yeah,” Wallace says, “Keith still has the picture hanging up in his house. It’s hilarious.” Veronica glares at him. “Hilarious, because of how great you look. Obviously.”
“I don’t want to make you do this,” Logan says.
Veronica doesn’t have time to question why he would make Parker do this but for some reason wants to spare her.
“Hey.” She reaches up for the hand still draped over her shoulder and laces their fingers together. Logan looks down at her. His eyes are all soft and heavy lidded; like they sometimes get when he’s sleepy.
(She’s also noticed they can kind of look like that when she’s ranting about a coworker. Or, that one time she helped her dad install a fence and came over to Logan’s place after. Her hands were full of splinters and Logan was so careful and gentle, removing each one with a very expensive pair of tweezers.)
“This is going to suck. Isn’t it?” she asks.
He nods. “Yeah. I think it will.”
“Then let me be there for you.” He doesn’t say anything. “I’ll work on my face. Promise.”
That gets him to crack a smile. “If you’re sure.”
“I’m sure.”
“Then great.”
“Great.”
“Did I just get replaced?” Parker asks.
Veronica shrugs. “I like nice shoes too, you know.”
Logan gives her hand a squeeze.
Oh. Look at that. She didn’t even notice they were still holding hands.

An entirely too long post on how to fix Veronica Mars
So, anyone who has followed this blog for any length of time knows: 1) What a massive Veronica Mars fan I was and 2) how distraught I’ve been over the most recent season that debuted on Hulu in July. I’ve been pretty angry about it since it dropped, but the first month after I was pretty occupied with real life stuff. Now that I’m more settled, I’ve found myself getting sadder and angrier over time with just how terrible S4 was and what an obvious fuck you to longtime fans it was. It feels dumb to be so upset over a tv show, but this show got me through a lot over the past 8 years, and I feel like it’s been taken away from me.
It’s anyone’s guess as to whether there will be a new season. Ideally it would end here with maybe an alternate ending filmed to avoid alienating fans further. On the one hand, the botched release, overwhelmingly negative response, and silence from the creators after initial interviews don’t look good for renewal chances. On the other hand, Hulu doesn’t have a lot of streaming hits, it probably did relatively decent numbers, and there are rumors floating around that its pickup chances look good. On a personal level, I hate the idea that this is where the legacy of Veronica Mars ends, while at the same time being extremely wary of what the creators have planned. I think a big part of the disappointment with S4 was that the movie and books set up what could have been some really interesting storylines and situations, all of which RT and co. squandered for cheap drama and to apparently turn the show into an entirely new vehicle; additionally I had hope that S4 would be a chance to rectify some problems the show has long had, but again, S4 exacerbated them. At this point I don’t expect anyone higher up in the creative process or at Hulu to give a fuck about the fans or making the show better as long as they hit streaming targets, but here are some suggestions:
Fire Rob Thomas
While he created the show, it’s become clear that not only has he lost touch with the audience and the original spirit of the character, he doesn’t seem too keen on putting much effort into writing the show (as I will discuss below). Then you have his clear misogyny: his views that women in relationships can’t be interesting, that what makes Veronica interesting as a character is her trauma and how much she can endure, and the fact that basically every female character in the history of the show has a history of sexual victimization. He thought that making the Mexican cartel hitmen “philosophical” was subverting expectations (which says a lot of what his expectations of Latinx characters are). Then this is the way he essentially exploited his long term fan base to earn a new season of the show, only to turn around and tell us that we don’t matter. From a business perspective alone keeping him doesn’t make sense; selling a streaming platform on your loyal fanbase and then proceeding to purposefully piss ~80% of them off would be pretty questionable to me as someone in charge. The sheer cruelty with which he treated not only the fans who have supported him for 15 years (I fucking used to liveblog iZombie y’all. iZombie!), as well as how he callously dismissed long time cast members in favor of celebrity guest stars should not be rewarded. He’s admitted in interviews that he would be ok with younger writers doing a reboot many years in the future; why not just let him have a producer credit and then hand the show over to someone who’s invested in making it good?
Put a woman in charge and diversify the writing staff
A big problem with a) Veronica’s characterization in S4 b) RT’s ideas about what makes female characters interesting c) the show’s long history of problematic treatment of sexual assault is that it comes from a man’s conception of the female experience. The Veronica showcased in S4 and that RT wants to write in the future is very much a male fantasy: hates marriage and children, traumatized, DTF, and is too cool for other women. RT stated in interviews that he wanted to show Veronica at a “crossroads” this season in a way he claimed had been shown for men but not women; many female viewers found this depiction to ring false (few women are spending their time fretting about how committing to marriage after five years in an established relationship will bar us from strange sex going forward). In addition to having RT at the helm, most of the show’s writing staff for the majority of its run has been white dudes, which doesn’t bode well for telling the story of a female PI in a diverse community in today’s political climate. Putting a woman in charge would hopefully help rectify these issues to make the character feel more true to life and put a damper on the misogynistic storytelling. The show has a natural candidate in RT’s second-in-command Diane Ruggiero-Wright (despite her problematic history, never forget #KeisterEggGate), who has admitted to not being able to watch the last episode. Jennifer Graham, who wrote both of the books, would also be a worthy addition to the writing staff; while the books had a mixed reception, most fans agree that she got Veronica’s character right. And with the show’s problematic historical treatment of minority characters, adding more POC writers going forward is also necessary.
Bring back Logan (alive)
You don’t have to be a LoVe shipper to recognize just how integral Logan has been since the inception of the show, not just as Veronica’s partner but as a character is his own right. Logan’s journey in many ways parallels Veronica’s, and shows a contrast in how different characters respond to similar trauma. The most critical plot line in the show’s history, the mystery of who killed Lilly Kane, simply doesn’t work without Logan’s importance to Veronica. RT and his defenders like to claim that Logan was holding her back from true growth, which is frankly bizarre as he is the only character to consistently challenge her, like when he tells her that she obviously isn’t happy this season. Additionally, Logan’s scenes this season were the lone highlight of what was otherwise a painful slog of a season. Of the people who have said they would watch a potential S5, a good portion are only interested because they believe that the ambiguity of the last 10 minutes of the season means he’s not really dead (despite what RT has said in interviews). Then there’s what Logan’s death does to Veronica’s character, effectively cutting off what would have been an interesting character arc and stagnating her forever. No matter how much they try to shove Leo the pedo creep and other milquetoast RT self-insert love interests on us, no one else can possible measure up to Logan’s level in terms of being able to match Veronica as a character, intellectually or as a result of shared history.
Plus, the fact that we haven’t had a Weevil/Logan interaction since S3 is a goddamn travesty and should be rectified immediately.
Bring back Veronica
As sad as I am about Logan’s death, for me the most upsetting aspect of S4 was the assassination of Veronica’s character. For many viewers (including myself), the character we saw Kristen Bell portray in S4 wasn’t Veronica Mars but a different character with the same name. Between her abusive behavior towards Logan, her general indifference to her father’s medical condition, her dismissal of Wallace, and her racism towards Latinx characters (using a kid’s lawyer to threaten deportation: not a good look!), she was lacking the marshmallow-y center that always balanced out the pricklier aspects of her character and made her compelling. This change in characterization was especially jarring given that she was not this way when we last saw her in the books, where she mused about having children and sent her half-brother Hunter to summer camp (side note, but does he even exist anymore?). Many of us who had grown up with Veronica were hoping to see her grow with us as a character; instead we got an extreme regression lower than we’ve ever seen her. It would be one thing if they were trying to depict a PTSD storyline, which would make sense given her background, but since her change in behavior is never addressed by the narrative, it just makes her look like a cruel asshole and makes it impossible to root for her. This is exacerbated by the fact that RT has made it clear he has no interest in portraying her inner life, as shown by his wanting to avoid showing her grief over Logan’s death because it would be a real downer compared to the entertaining but ultimately hollow banter and quips he wants to focus on. Veronica this season was also just plain dumb: you mean to tell me that the girl who nearly got killed by Aaron Echolls in her back seat wouldn’t think to check her backseat every time she gets in a car?  (And let’s not even start with RT’s bizarre assertion in an interview that she apparently votes Republican). Not helping matters was Kristen Bell’s performance, which felt very flat for me this season compared to S1-3 and the movie; I don’t know if this was due to personal limitations or a reflection of the bad writing. Writers of future installments and KB herself would be wise to revisit S1, the movie, and the books to figure out what makes sense for Veronica’s character, leading me to my next point:
Get reacquainted with canon, develop a show bible, and hire a continuity director
This show has long had a problem with dropped plots, timelines, and continuity issues. Shelly Pomroy’s party has two happened either in the summer, or the fall. Then we have the movie paradox: Veronica graduated high school in 2006, which means her 10 year reunion should have taken place in 2016. The movie was released in 2014 and the books seem to keep to 2014 dates. Then S4 states that Keith’s movie accident took place in 2013, and mysteriously ages Veronica up to 35 when she should be 32 in 2019. Logan mentions an Aunt Naomi in S4--why didn’t she take care of him after Aaron was arrested (and what happened to Trina)? How the hell is Leo working as an FBI agent when he presided over the disappearance of the Lilly/Aaron tapes? Veronica is shown to be tentatively forgiving of Weevil taking the settlement from the sheriff’s department in Mr. Kiss and Tell, but is then shown to be extremely angry towards him for it in S4. This is just a small selection of the inconsistencies within the show. Plus there is the problem of repeated plot lines: Veronica rejects Leo in favor of Logan in S1, then rejects Leo in favor of Logan in Mr. Kiss and Tell, only for her to...reject Leo in favor of Logan in S4 (and RT says he wants to leave the high school plots behind). This sloppiness doesn’t bode well for a series that is supposed to be about mysteries, which require tight plotting. It would behove TPTB going forward to once and for all determine a timeline of Veronica’s life, keep a detailed record of past plot and character points, and have at least one person on staff who thinks to remember this stuff (RT notoriously has only a “solid, not spectacular” memory of the show, no matter what Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says).
Make an effort (and do your fucking research)
Moving on from continuity issues to more general problems with the laziness of RT’s writing. He has basically admitted that he doesn’t care much about facts or characterization when writing plots--he shoehorns details to fit the plot rather than have it evolve organically from the characters and prior canon. I know that when writing it’s often impossible to make every story detail 100% accurate, but the extent of RT’s sloppiness is alarming. This excellent Reddit thread details a lot of the problems with S4 in particular, but this has been a problem since S2. Did anyone ever understand exactly why the Fitzpatricks were invested in framing Logan for Felix’s death? In the movie, it makes no sense that if Cobb and co. wanted Carrie silenced, they would add the complication of framing Logan for her murder--given her history, it would have been a lot easier just to make it look like she had accidentally overdosed. Given his previous patterns of villain writing fans were able to guess the identity of the S4 bomber based on casting alone. The mysteries in both Mr. Kiss and Tell and S4 are both ripped from the headlines, which indicates that RT wants to turn VM into the next Law and Order. Meanwhile, he complained about how hard including Logan in the story in S4 was, while Logan arguably had the best lines and most interesting scenes this season--apparently when you put an effort into things, they work out! This laziness extends past storyline issues and into factual problems that detract from the quality of the plot. Longtime fandom pals are probably tired about hearing me go on and on about how there’s no way Aaron’s lawyers could have gotten Veronica’s medical records due to HIPAA laws. Logan’s career change from naval aviator to intelligence is highly unlikely (and unnecessary, given that they changed it only to fridge him at the end of the season). Meanwhile, I know fanfic writers who have spent hours on the phone with strangers in order to research what type of firearm would cause a specific type of bullet injury. It’s very puzzling to me that RT wants to take the show in the direction of being mystery-only when apart from that one time he is piss poor at writing mysteries and puts no effort into them. I shouldn’t have to tell television writers to, you know, do their job but this is what we’ve come to in 2019.
Know your audience
A majorly annoying thing about the promo for this season is how in every single interview Rob Thomas did he was always talking about how he wanted VM to be like other shows and movies: Fargo, True Detective, Game of Thrones, Chinatown (which is apparently the only noir movie he’s ever seen). The thing is, if I wanted to watch those shows, I would; I watched Veronica Mars specifically because I enjoyed its unique qualities, and I would say most fans agree. The general perception within the fandom is that with this season Rob Thomas seems to have been aiming to dump the old, majority female, CW fanbase in order to achieve what he perceives as a cooler prestigious male fanbase; the issue is, new people aren’t going to take up a show in its fourth season if they didn’t watch or didn’t like earlier seasons. Also, trying to write a prestigious show doesn’t make your show prestigious. Considering that based on anecdotal evidence most of the people who like S4 seem to be male, he may have succeeded in the first part of his aim. However, this majority female fanbase he was so willing to cast aside are the ones who have run fansites and rewatches during fallow times (i.e. between S3 and the movie and then between the books and S4), so drumming up interest among fans (and therefore streaming views) in the future may be a challenge. Plus, women are a better advertising demographic since they are more likely to be in charge of household purchasing decisions, so maintaining us as a fanbase makes business sense as well. He may have tricked enough people into watching S4 that S5 is given a go, but I wouldn’t be surprised if streams are weak beyond that. If the show is to succeed as a commercial endeavor, better to go with appealing to a known quantity than trying to make a generic show that very few people have expressed interest in watching.
Bring back the mystery of the week
This is a more minor thing I felt was missing from S4. I think after the criticism of S3 not having a season-long arc RT overcorrected in focusing on one mystery. However, the mystery of the week had the following benefits: 1) giving chances for the characters to interact and telling us more about them 2) helping to modulate the pace of the season-long arc. With better writing a season-long standalone mystery could maybe work, but in the case of S4 specifically the mystery was kind of dull and repetitive and could have stood to include a couple of diversions in the form of a smaller case here and there.
Re-evaluate the creators’ interpretation of the word “adult”
Much of the promo and reviews for this season noted the more “adult” content to be expected this season now that Veronica’s grown. Many fans hoped that meant seeing Veronica act like, you know, an adult with adult problems rather than a teenager less mature than the actual teenager she was. Unfortunately, the show’s interpretation of the word seems to be more in keeping with a television rating sense of the word--meaning sex, drugs, and gratuitous violence (But apparently not the word “fuck.”). Look, it was expected that as the show moved to a streaming service and given the overall dramatic scope that there would be an upgrade in some of this sort of content (and I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t looking forward to steamier LoVe moments, which were sorely overpromised), but the way it was included this season felt like RT and co. included this stuff just because they could and not to serve the storyline. For me, personally, the biggest example of this was Veronica’s drug use, which I know didn’t necessarily bother everyone. Given her history as the daughter of an alcoholic as well as someone who had been the victim of two roofie attacks, not to mention the fact that her character never seemed to be into partying, I found it very out of character (and book writer Jennifer Graham agrees). It felt like RT included this just bc they thought it would be funny to see Veronica on drugs without considering whether it made sense for her character. Also, were the beheadings strictly necessary? Plus there’s RT’s little temper tantrum over not being able to use curse words this season--they weren’t present in the original show, no one was going to miss them now, and the “cuss” thing was just annoying and reminiscent of The Good Place.
Dealing with a parent who maybe has dementia--that’s an adult storyline. Too bad RT ended it with a dumb excuse about “mixing meds” (another factual error! Pharmacy software would have caught it!) rather than actually exploring what it would mean for Veronica to see her father in decline and take over the family business (and give Rico Colantoni the exit he appears to want). This is the kind of adult content I would hope to see in future seasons.
Adult is not a synonym for “unrelentingly bleak” either. The original show, while dark, always had an element of hope that was completely removed from S4 (no matter what KB might claim). And would it have killed the writers to show Veronica wearing disguises and going undercover like she used to? There was nothing fun about this season (and no, I don’t count the multiple partying scenes as fun, more like sad).
Kill your darlings
It’s cliche, but it’s true. Another issue the show has long had is the writers keeping around characters or inserting jokes and references for their own personal amusement rather than for the story. The most notable example of this is the continued presence of Dick, a highly problematic character considering he pushed Beaver into the room with Veronica the night of Shelly Pomroy’s party, among a whole host of other racist, sexist, and generally obnoxious actions over the years. But because Ryan Hansen is so widely beloved among the cast and crew, so he stays. Then there’s the matter of the infamous Keister egg in 3x08, which the writers and KB have all expressed love for, despite the fact that said Keister egg is an example of sexual assault--which, even if the victim is a douchey fraternity president, is never funny.
Also the constant Big Lebowski references are tiring. Watch a new movie.
Improve Neptune’s gender ratio
Veronica Mars, despite having a female lead, has always been a male-dominated show; other than Veronica herself, the only consistent female character over the original show was Mac (and she didn’t even come back this season). This is unacceptable in 2019, for any show. The books introduced promising female characters in the form of Marcia Langdon and Petra Landros, but Marcia’s character was was watered down for S4 and Petra was nowhere to be found. Additionally, Veronica and Mac have always been written as “cool girls” who looked down on other women for their femininity, which isn’t a great message. Almost every other female character, even the innocuous Parker, is portrayed as somehow bad or incompetent. I would love nothing more than a season centered on the women of Neptune and their interactions with each other. While we’re at it, stop giving every woman on this show a background of sexual victimization.
Treat VM as an ensemble show, not a Kristen Bell vanity project
A major complaint from Burnt Marshmallows and S4 defenders alike was how little time was given over to the original core cast this season. While Veronica may be the protagonist, a large part of how the show became so beloved was her relationships with the other characters. Yet RT has decided that going forward VM will be a KB solo project, with her traveling town to town quipping and sleeping with strangers. This seems strange, given Kristen’s recent interviews talking about how difficult it is to shoot VM and how she never wants to be first on a call sheet ever again, not to mention how she asked for less screen time all the way back in S2, which resulted in the Weevil-Logan storyline, which was way more interesting than Veronica’s storylines during the first half of that season. (The traveling detective thing also seems weird considering that KB is pretty insistent on shooting in LA to be near her family.) Additionally, if this is truly the last season of VM with all the original characters, then no one got a proper sendoff.
I’m not sure how willing much of the cast will be to return for future iterations, given how uncomfortable many of them seemed during promo as well RT and KB’s treatment of them (insensitive at best, deliberately mean at worst) this season (shout out to Tina Majorino for recognizing what a shit show this was going to be), but bringing back all the original characters into the fold and giving them significant storylines would go a long way to mending fences with fans, improving the show from a character arc perspective, and would also give KB the break she apparently wants.
Recourt the fanbase
What has VM always been renowned for above all else? It’s incredibly loyal fandom which not only got it renewed twice during its original run but also put up their own money to get the movie made--I know many people who donated when they really couldn’t afford to. RT basically owes the last 6 years of his career to VM fans--the success of the Kickstarter arguably got him the iZombie show running gig, and the fourth season likely wouldn’t have even happened if not for it. Thus, the blatant cruelty and disregard with which RT and KB have treated fans during the promotion of S4 has been incredibly insulting and hurtful; I still can’t fathom what in the world possessed RT to think that throwing away this 15-year relationship was a good idea. It’s not a good sign when the 2 fansites most active during the post-movie period (VMHQ and VM Confessions) cease operations in the wake of S4, and when at least 3 out of 8 board members of the oldest running fan group, Neptune Rising (who were dormant during the post-movie period but played a critical role during earlier fan campaigns and in the S4 promo) resign. A fandom this loyal that was betrayed will not stand idly by if the S5 RT wants to make goes ahead; given the number of tweets the official Hulu VM account has had to delete in the wake of S4 due to the overwhelmingly negative response as well as the controversy over editing out Logan from S4 promos, I imagine that S5 will be a PR nightmare. Even if future seasons are amazing the trust can probably never be fully repaired, but it would be helpful for RT (or fingers crossed, a new show runner) and KB (as star and EP) to go overboard in reaching out to fans and at least admitting they made a misstep with the entirety of S4. Back in the day, the old Mars Investigation fansite was invited to set to conduct interviews; maybe do that again. Also someone should get KB some sort of VM fandom-fluent media trainer because I don’t think she has conducted a single interview during her entire stint on the show that didn’t anger fans (it might help if she actually bothered to watch the show).
Map out an endgame
Look, this can’t go on forever. As long as RT keeps leaving every installment open ended with the hopes of maybe getting renewed again five years down the line, the story is going to keep running into the issues the movie and S4 faced with having to shoehorn the characters into nonsensical plot lines to reconcile those endings and deal with actor availability issues. Either plot another 2-3 seasons to wrap the show up with a satisfying conclusion, or map out a greater timeline of Veronica’s life with spots where a mini series or movie here and there could fit in.

You all know I’m a Logan/Veronica girl, like they are the one couple on the show for me, the otp, The Love Story™ But it always confused when people who didn’t like Logan would be like “ Oh, Veronica could be with Piz or Duncan or Leo” Because,
 A) Duncan was as big (bigger some would say, some being me) a dickhead as Logan ever was except the writing never pulled him up for it in the same way.
B) Piz was too boring for Veronica and she didn’t treat him very well (eg:movie)
 C) I see Max’s beautiful dimples but don’t let them fool you, Leo was a cop dating a high schooler and he stole the fucking Lilly Kane tapes, essentially destroying some of the best evidence to convict Aaron Echolls and other than losing his job for 5 minutes he experienced no true punishment for that.
And finally, D) ELI WEEVIL NAVARRO AND MEG MANNING ARE RIGHT THERE.

ASK THE FANDOM--RESPONSES
Here’s this week’s Ask the Fandom question:
Is Keith Mars ACTUALLY a good investigator since he a.) didn’t know his wife was cheating on him b.) didn’t run Logan Echoll’s car through border patrol c.) didn’t get a full file on Lilly Kane (which would turn up the speeding ticket) d.) got outsmarted by Vinnie Van Lowe in Welcome Wagon by a trick VM spotted immediately, etc.
Tumblr media
And here’s what you had to say:
@cheshirecatstrut--Personally I think Keith is just like Veronica. He’s extremely clever, maybe a bit smug, good at improvising/mimicking, reckless in pursuit of justice…and has giant blind spots due to personal bias. Like he hates Jake (and I’m one who believes he at least SUSPECTED his wife was cheating). This hatred causes him to accuse Jake of covering up Lilly’s murder during interrogation (which gets him fired) and ignore other suspects and leads. (Not just Aaron or the speeding ticket, either–he doesn’t really investigate Weevil or Logan, despite knowing they were both Lilly’s lovers). He also dislikes boys who REMIND him of Jake (Logan, Troy) so he chases them away from his daughter, while seeming fine with both Known to be Mentally Unstable Duncan and Sketchy Adult Cop Leo.
He sees himself as smarter and more ethical than Vinnie, and Vinnie uses  that blind spot repeatedly to trap him (in much the same way Weevil plays Veronica). He judges Jake and Logan harshly for sleeping with married women, but finds extenuating circumstances when he’s the one doing so. He thinks leaving Neptune, having a corporate career, and marrying a ‘nice’ person is the road to happiness (mostly because it’s the exact opposite of the path he chose). So he manipulates and guilts Veronica into living that life, even though it’s not at all what she wants.
So in my opinion, he’s not so much a BAD investigator as a cocky and biased one. And he suffers for his flawed judgment the same way Veronica does–by losing the things he most values.
@mrskissytaylor--I feel like Keith wouldn’t have been a respected Sheriff or a respected PI by his clients if he wasn’t a good investigator. I mean, as Sheriff, we know he was elected by the people to hold the position, and he wouldn’t have been elected if he wasn’t capable of doing his job, especially to the 09 standards. Same idea goes for the PI side. Mars Investigation seems to rely a lot on reputation, he wouldn’t have many clients or referrals if he wasn’t good at what he did.  I do however think that he, like Veronica - allows his own personal vendettas or issues with specific people cloud his judgement. Obviously Jake Kane was on his radar long before Lily’s death. He may not have known how long Leanne’s affair was going on for, but he had to have known on some level. I think that by going so far as to accuse Jake, he must have decided at some point that since his instincts were telling him Jake was somehow involved or responsible, he stopped looking at any other angle and ran with the circumstantial evidence. I bet if he continued to dig even after questioning Jake, he would have figured out the ticket. Same with Logan. This was the kid that he knew as the self entitled rich kid, used to not having consequences for his actions; and just also happened to be dating his daughter. He didn’t think Logan was ‘worthy enough’, so when she presents him with a plausible (yet very weak) motive…he goes with it - probably not with the intention of bringing Logan to justice based off of something circumstantial, but definitely because his little girl was emotionally hurt by it and he wouldn’t stand for that. What is it they say? Someone always has to pay?
@captaine-carter--He definitely knew Lianne was cheating on him (there’s a reason he hates Jake so much) he just choose to ignore it because he didn’t want to destroy his family. And with Lilly he was blinded by how badly he wanted Jake to have done it just like Veronica gets when accusing Logan of evil. The one big difference between Veronica and Keith is Keith tends to be more of an optimist about people. Probably because he was an adult before being exposed to all the scandal while she was still a high schooler and so he does tend to miss a couple things Veronica picks up on because she’s always convinced everyone is up to something. (Unless they are a ‘nice’ guy)

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will (be nice)
Um…hmm. I’m such a multishipper, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about my NOTPs. I’ve never been onboard the Keens from The Blacklist, though. Not even a little. I only enjoyed Tom in his original villainous state.
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice)
A couple of my spouse’s faves, I really wish I liked too, especially Sam/Josh and Mal/Simon. I don’t like one of the characters in each very much, so I’ve never been able to get into them–even though I understand them, and have had fun writing them…I just don’t love them too.
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what
Yeah, mostly graphics, though. I don’t think I’ve ever written crackfic. I did New York Times Minus Content edits for TDBM, a ton of those. Also Sext Message Error sets for Lizzington and for Josh/Donna. And Welcome To Nightvale sets for iZombie and Lizzington. And OTP Bot sets for Lizzington.
And this isn’t EXACTLY crack, but my original tumblr claim to fame was this Hamilton/TWW crossover that got reblogged by Lin himself.
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom
Mm, the first time I actively joined a fandom was Buffy, and I was about 14 when that started for me…so as of this year I’ll have been in that fandom for 20 years! But I’ve been a fangirl literally my whole life, I just didn’t really join fandoms before the internet, and I started using the internet more in junior high and HS.
G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it
Lou/Joey from Brotherly Love, or Claire/Trevor from Cupid (original run), or Dharma and Greg, or Allison/Wade from CryBaby, or Idgie/Ruth from Fried Green Tomatoes. I was a shipping prodigy, and the couples I was obsessed with as a literal child blur together a bit in the timeline, so I’m not completely sure which came first.
H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)
TV shows.
I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why
The Aaron Tveit fandom made me uncomfortable watching BrainDead before I even had the chance to decide if I liked it or not. Most fandoms I love, though. I prefer to ignore the drama and focus on the people I actually like.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr
SO MANY. Parks and Rec, TDBM, Stranger Things…a significant portion of my watchlist comes from this hellsite by now–I have friends with good taste.
K -Say something nice about someone in any of your fandoms
@mossdonnatella is in a lot of my fandoms. She is a much better fic writer than she thinks she is!!
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike)
I really ended up disliking Jacob a lot, on Grace and Frankie. But I will say that in the beginning he is very respectful of Frankie’s boundaries and tries to be patient with her, and I did like that.
M - Say something genuinely nice about a ship that you don’t ship (or its shippers, or anything related to you)
I don’t actively ship Jancy on Stranger Things after seeing S1 (I don’t really ship Steve/Nancy either, though…I think I mostly just ship Nancy x happiness) but the moment when her mom knocks on her bedroom door and they reach for each others’ hands instinctively? That is a damn fine understated sweet connection moment and I really enjoyed and believed it.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)
Okay since a lot of my top fandoms are for shows that ended a long time ago, I’m going with One Day At A Time. In fic or in canon, I want to see a lot more of Schneider being Penelope’s BFF and her confidant. I want more serious!Schneider moments bc it turns out the actor rocks at them, and I want to see Pen really get to move on from Victor as her kids get older, I want real confirmation that she’s finally past any possibility of reconciliation with him bc she deserves SO MUCH BETTER.
O - Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you of
Randomizing my music gave me “Quiet” by MiLCK feat. GW Sirens and Capital Blend.
Sample lyrics:
Cuz no one knows me, no one ever willIf I don’t say something, take that dry blue pillThey may see a monster, they may run awayBut I have to do thisI can’t keep quiet, no A one woman riot
Despite the mature meaning behind the lyrics, and probably because I’m watching Stranger Things right now, it reminds me of Eleven, the tiny badass fighting her way to freedom.
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)
Alright, I’m gonna invent one right off the top of my head right here and now since you asked. Um… a One Day At A Time AU in which Penelope meets Schneider not as her landlord but as a patient, once she becomes an NP. Doctor/patient “okay if you won’t stop asking me out then get a new doctor so I can say yes” fluff ensues.
Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and why
Lizzington. I’m technically still writing fic for it bc I have a chapter fic to finish, but I haven’t watched the show in years, I avoid content for it, and have no interest in it anymore besides the phantom limb feeling of having been so invested in a ship for that long and making friends around it.
R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships
Well, since I mentioned it earlier, I think I’m the only person ever to watch the scenes Bud and Brianna have together in Grace and Frankie and think “that should really be a thing.”
Also…Kate/Donna from The West Wing. Based entirely on one scene.
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
I genuinely don’t understand this question, sorry. What’s an ‘example’ of my headcanon, and how does that relate to prompts? If somebody wants to explain this to me, I’ll answer it.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)
Yep yep yep. Andy was the leak, not Toby, and that is the hill I will die on always. I’m sure I have others, but that’s the big one.
U - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms
Toby Ziegler (TWW), Alice Harvey (TDBM), Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls), Jim Hopper (Stranger Things), and Spencer Hastings (from what I just saw of PLL with @actuallylukedanes).
V - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms
Luke/Lorelai, Gilmore Girls. Parker/Hardison/Eliot, Leverage. Joyce/Hopper, Stranger Things.
W - 5 favorite ships and 5 kinks you like best for said ships
Josh/Donna (TWW), Donna in control. Matthew/Alice (TDBM), hurt/comfort sex. Alvareider (ODAAT), “whoops are we kissing wait do we like each other?”Jared/Miss Parker (The Pretender), conflicted kisses up against wallsI’m having trouble thinking of a 5th one but I used to really like Lizzington angry!sex bc damn that ship was angsty
X - top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEM
Eleven, Toby Ziegler, Schneider, Lena Luthor, Logan Echolls, literally every main character on The Good Place.
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)
Game of Thrones, Agents of Shield, Doctor Who (though I finally have started this one!), Jane the Virgin, The Worst Witch, and lots more…I like learning about fandoms secondhand.
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged)
Every single one of these tiny Stranger Things children in S1 is the epitome of epic friendship and I love it. Mike jumps off a cliff to protect Dustin and Dustin’s willing to get his teeth cut out to protect Mike and Lucas offers a sincere apology when he’s wrong, something most adults still suck at, and Will tells Mike the truth even when he would benefit from lying and Eleven chooses death to save them all and they are beautiful and perfect and I love them.

WEEKLY FIC ROUND UP
Previously on VM Fic Recs:
pageoftarts, “Track Three”, T, Season 2
A missing scene from Not Pictured. Somehow Logan went from a quiet exit out of the Mars’ apartment the morning after Cassidy walked off the Neptune Grand to sharing spin-kisses with Veronica just a couple days later.
MachaSWicket, “Gravity Sings,” T, Post-Movie
Logan’s back from deployment, Veronica’s back to working cases, and they’re back to figuring out how to make their relationship work, this time as adults with demanding jobs. But when their new normal is disrupted by an unusual missing persons case, Veronica is reminded yet again that nothing ever comes easy in Neptune – and even with the help of Mac, Keith, and Weevil, solving this case may come at too high a cost.
Note: Hope no one minds me as I write a love letter real quick!! This fic has one of my all time FAVORITE fanfic scenes: Logan coming out of the bedroom in nothing but low-slung boxers and surprise!!! Keith is over and Logan just does an about face and gets dressed. Oh, man. It brings me joy whenever I think of it. Also. MAC!!! Weevil and Logan almost killing each other lowkey (not the way they would’ve wanted to in the past but it still delights me), when Logan and Veronica are softkey fighting about money and Mac just straight up leaves the fucking apartment while they talk I die laughing. And that’s fun stuff, that’s not even touching the plot or the heavy material this fic tackles flawlessly. Plus??? A meaningful and well-rounded mystery to boot?? r*b could never.
New to VM Fic Recs:
Here and Now Author: SydneySunshine Pairing: Logan/Veronica; Keith; Dick  Rating: G Genre: Romance, Hurt/Comfort  Setting: Movie Spoilers: The Movie Chapters: 1 Word Count: 3876 Status: Complete Summary: Two weeks. Not enough time, but they'll make the most of it. Notes: A look into those beautiful two weeks Logan and Veronica spent together reconfirming their love and adoration together and their commitment to try this thing between them out one more time. They’re so sweet and present with each other and they can communicate this time around!! I love them.
Interlude Author: Caroline4329 Pairing: Logan/Veronica; Keith Rating: T Genre: Friendship idk, Hurt/Comfort Setting: Season 2 Spoilers: 2.22, “Not Pictured” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 602 Status: Complete Summary: Not Pictured (s2e22) missing scene: Veronica and Logan grieve, seen through Keith's eyes. Notes: AHHHH you guys I was so excited when I found this. I am obsessed with fics that take place immediately post Season 2 events (Keith is dead! but then he’s not dead! Aaron is dead! Logan and Veronica navigate themselves back to each other during all this!) and discovering this one made my day. It has everything that I love-- Keith coming to terms about Logan, Logan and Veronica being there for each other, Logan dealing with Aaron’s death. It’s wonderful.
The Harsh Blows Dealt Author: ghostcat Pairing: Logan/Veronica; (Aaron)  Rating: T Genre: LOGAN!!!!, ft. Enemies-Who-Used-To-Be-Friends-Who-Aren’t-Really-Enemies-But-Still-Aren’t-Friends  Setting: Season 1 Spoilers: 1.15, “Ruskie Business” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 5655 Status: Complete Summary: Where was he? At a hotel in Los Angeles with his pygmy nemesis. Who was he? Logan Echolls. Unfocused, exhausted, here and not here. Logan’s stakeout at the Sunset Regent ends with the answer he least wanted. Veronica Mars is there to bring him home. Notes: We never got around to recc’ing this before????????? Y’all I am SHOCKED. Anyway, this is exquisite, yada yada yada. The ending especially, that closing phone call between Logan & Veronica. Beautiful.

WEEKLY FIC ROUND UP
New to VM Fic Recs:
Matching Pink Bikinis Author: anonymous  Pairing: Logan/Lilly/Veronica Rating: E Genre: Romance, Friends Setting: Pre-series Spoilers: n/a Chapters: 1 Word Count: 3824 Status: Complete Summary: Veronica and Lilly wear matching pink bikinis to Logan's for a pool day. This is pure threesome smut, folks. Notes: LOGAN CALLING LILLY MISS KANE this fic is everything i want lilly convincing logan and veronica to have a three way with her even tho they're both trying to dig their heels. good. ass. shit. WHEN LOGAN AND LILLY LOCK EYES AND THEYRE BOTH LIKE OH MY GOD WE'RE GONNA HAVE A THREEWAY WITH VERONICA MARS. NERDs!!!! they're obsessed with her!! ot3 fic is my absolute favorite and this is no exception.
That’s Amore Author: dark_roast Pairing: Logan; Veronica; Aaron; OC (Logan’s therapist)  Rating: R Genre: Logan is a Mess, a lil angst  Setting: Season 2 Spoilers: All Season 1 Chapters: 1 Word Count: 2700 Status: Complete Summary: Logan testifies as a character witness at his father's trial. Notes: Logan’s inner thoughts had me giggling and, of course, had my heart breaking. Particularly the bit where his therapist asks him to meet her halfway and Logan says he can’t. Sidebar: Logan’s therapist trying not to kick the shit out of him is fucking delightful.
Hora Somni Author: Oliviet Pairing: Logan/Veronica Rating: M Genre: Romance, some angst Setting: Future Fic (ft. tiny canonical elements from S4) Spoilers: The Movie Chapters: 4 Word Count: 8514 Status: In Progress Summary: hora somni (h.s.), latin, meaning at the hour of sleep. A collection of one shots focusing on conversations Veronica and Logan have before bed when he returns home from deployment. “Are you watching me again?” she asks without turning to look at him. “I might be.” She snaps the lid closed on the lotion bottle. “Come home more often I do this nightly.” Notes: “Logan?” “Yeah?” “I don’t want to lose anymore time with you either.” CAN Y’ALL HEAR ME SCREAMING that callback to my favorite declaration of love in the series (I don’t want to lose you from my life either) when she’s outside on his doorstep and oh, god, he doesn’t remember and of-fucking-course he slept with someone and Logan doesn’t know what the fuck he did but Veronica Mars is walking away from him crying so he knows damn well it isn’t good. ANYWAY. I DIGRESS. Chapter One starts off very saccharine and a little cloying, even, but this fic includes so many delightful callbacks to their past and they have those mature, adult conversations they were never able to have successfully when they were younger. Chapters 2 & 3 are equally tied as my favorite because intimacy! logan is an ass! they are so in love with each other!
Limp Author: iridescentglow Pairing: Logan/Weevil Rating: M Genre: angst, me wanting to fling myself off of a cliff  Setting: Post Season 1  Spoilers: 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver” Chapters: 1 Word Count: 1208 Status: Complete Summary: Make it hurt. Notes: I’M SO SAD. Logan wants to be close to someone and Weevil wants these fucking white kids to leave him alone. One of them gets what they want. I run off and cry into my pillow because that’s just what boyfriends fic does to me.
Start With Something You Love Author: Sorcha Pairing: Logan/Lilly; Veronica/Duncan; Fab Four Rating: PG Genre: friendship, Lilly Kane is the Best Setting: Pre-series Spoilers: 1.01, “Pilot” and 1.06, “Return of the Kane”  Chapters: 1 Word Count: 2012 Status: Complete Summary: Start with something you love and see what’s left at the end. Notes: Oh, how I love Lilly Kane with every single inch of my heart. Sweet snapshots into the fab four friendship and how much they loved each other.

Know of any good fics where Aaron doesn't die at the end of season 2 and the crew has to deal with him being around in season 3?
Oh thepageoftarts how we adore you. Unfortunately…this is one of those asks where our answer is actually, “Not really.” It seems that fic writers, by and large, are very happy to keep Aaron dead. They keep that dude good and dead. Like, he is completely dead. 100% dead, all the time.
We do, however, have a few recs for fics where Aaron is alive, and a more active part of the story. Mainly because they were written prior to 2.22 airing. Logan and Veronica are often the ones who have to deal with him and the knowledge of what he’s done. Hopefully these satisfy!
And if anyone does in fact know of fics where Aaron is around for S3, send them to us via our submit box!
barb1, “Bleed Like Me,” T, S2 AU.
After spending the summer apart believing the worst about each other, Logan and Veronica attempt to reconnect.
The Comeback: The Vanity Fair ProfileAuthor: yahtzee63Characters: Logan/Veronica, Duncan, KeithRating: PG-13Genre: Drama/AngstSetting: Future AUSpoilers: 1.22, “Leave it to Beaver”Chapters: 1Word Count: 4, 287Status: CompleteSummary: Aaron is acquitted, and Vanity Fair is documenting his return to his illustrious movie career. Also provides snapshots of Logan’s, Duncan’s, and Veronica’s lives.  Notes: Well written and plausible exploration of just how likely it was that Aaron could have gotten away with the Lilly Kane murder. Aaron is completely charming in a way that’s almost mesmerizing — getting his audience and the interviewer to believe exactly what he wants them to.
Should Auld Acquaintance Be ForgotAuthor: kantyaraCharacters: Aaron, Logan, Veronica/DuncanRating: R (smut in one chapter)Genre: Drama/Mystery/RomanceSetting: Future AUSpoilers: 2.10, “Donut Run”Chapters: 6Word Count: 18, 435Status: CompleteSummary: In December 2018, Veronica receives an anonymous phone call out of the blue: “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll stay away from Duncan Kane.” The investigation leads her to better understand her past, her present, and the big choice she’s just made for her future…Notes: Logan as a ADA and Veronica as a photojournalist. Doing their best to be happy. One of my fave proposal scenes EVER, romance that isn’t sickengly sweet, and Aaron makes a creepy ass appearance.
Swimming With Sharks Author: celtic_flickaCharacters: Aaron, Veronica/LoganRating: PG-13Genre: DramaSetting: S3 AUSpoilers: S1 and S2, with a few details from S3Chapters: 1Word Count: 3, 600Status: CompleteSummary: Logan visits Aaron with some news about the Lilly Kane murder case.Notes: Great understanding of the Logan and Aaron dynamic. At once goes from Logan wanting to get the hell away from him, and then also desperately wanting them to be father and son again. With a little Logan/Veronica shipper happy ending.

Thanks for thinking we're qualified to answer your question, captainmoneybags! It seems tumblr won't let us answer you directly, so we hope answering publicly is okay!
After some humming and hawing and googling, we think we have an answer...

First of all, we should consider Lynn and Aaron's respective ages and careers, as well as the generally accepted birthdays for major VM characters.
The actress who plays Lynn Echolls, Lisa Rinna, is currently 50 years old. So, ten years ago when she played Lynn, she was 40. Going by this age, she would've had Logan at about 23 years old.
It's generally accepted that Logan was born in early 1988, ** due to his comments in 1.21, "A Trip to the Dentist,"
Logan: ... Round one of "How Well Do You Know Your Son?" When is my birthday? Aaron: February. Logan: Wow. Well, you got a vowel right.
And his MySpace created by the CW in 2007 lists his birthday as March, though March and February share both a vowel and a consonant. (Someone should ask RT what the characters' actual birthdays are at the premiere! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?)
Harry Hamlin (who played Aaron Echolls and is also Lisa Rinna's IRL husband) is 12 years older than Lisa Rinna. (It logically makes sense to go with Harry and Lisa's IRL ages, imho, as they aren't playing teenagers so their ages do not necessarily need to be tweaked like KB's or JD's.)
Lynn met Aaron on the set of his film The Pursuit of Happiness,  when she was, according to her deluded fan Sondra, "so young" (1.14, "Mars vs. Mars"). In 1987, the year before Logan was born, Aaron was named People's Sexiest Man Alive (which he confirms at his trial in 2.21, "Happy Go Lucky"). This means that Aaron was rather famous before Logan's birth.
If Lynn was famous at age 18 and dating/married to a famous movie star, it would be unlikely for her to have had Logan. Not only she would have been in her prime acting years – having a baby at 18 with an older, famous man would have been quite scandalous.
However, 23 (while young) isn't that far of stretch. If Aaron was 35 (and already had adopted Trina in a previous marriage), it would make sense for Lynn to have Logan at 23, especially as her husband was older and more famous than she.
Okay, to wrap this up – YES, it would have been very believable for Lynn to be about 40 during S1, especially because Lisa Rinna really was 40 at this time and actually did have a lot of work done to keep the beauty of her youth. Personally, I think you should keep the age difference between Aaron and Lynn, as well.
That said, Lynn would have only been 15 in 1979, so you might need to change the time period of your fic. Sorry! (Of course, you could always make it 1982/1983 (when LR would have been 18/19) and make her the star of those teeny-bopper "coming of age" films that were massively popular in the 80s. Lynn Echolls à la Molly Ringwald, anyone?
Hope this helps you, captainmoneybags!
If anyone has anything to add that might help clarify Lynn's age and relationship with Aaron, please let us and captainmoneybags know!
(** Nota Bene: parkerlees is sceptical about these birth years as she is Canadian and thus does not understand how American school systems would allow Logan to be in the same grade as Veronica but also born in separate years. nevertothethird has nicely attempted to explain it to her, but her opinion that your American education system is ridic still stands. Also, who pays, like, $50,000 for two years of university? Not Canadians, that's who.)

Okay, so I could swear parkerlees (back when she was pillsfrillsthrills) recommended a Logan/Aaron fic that took place during Ruskie Business, but now, for the life of me, I can't find it. Do either of you happen to know which fic I'm talking about/can point me in the right direction? Thanks so much!
I found it, I found it! Originally recommended by the ever elusive anonymous.

DNA Author: dreamer_marie Recommended By: theawkwardterrier Pairing: Logan/Charlie, Aaron/Charlie, slight Logan/Veronica Rating: PG-13 Genre: Drama/Angst Setting: Future Spoilers: 3.04, "Charlie Don't Surf" Chapters: 3 Word Count: 9, 775 Status: Complete Summary: When Charlie Stone reluctantly went to seek out his half-brother, he didn't know what would hit him. Notes: I really liked the Charlie Stone plot, so I was drawn to this story because of that. And this is a Charlie story, with his perspective, his life, totally clear. But it’s also a story about Logan, and a story about Neptune from a distance. Seeing the people we know through the eyes of a new, well-drawn character is excellent.
