I will do this response for all three of my rattos: Ardjin, Zyffre (ex-Inquest) and Raennyn

5) How do they feel about the morally questionable goings-on in the Inquest?

Ardjin is fine with morally questionable on-goings, so long as he gets his desired results. Being the Head Director of Bio-genetic Weapons Engineering, and having invested interest in splicing creatures (mainly dragon minions with humanoid subjects) into potential weapons, he can't and won't afford to be sympathetic for his subjects.

Zyffre was kinda on the same track as Ardjin, except Zyffre was not okay with the sudden influx of subjects in the Crucible of Eternity. He particularly couldn't stomach the ruthless and agonizing methods of force-corrupting captives into dragon minions. Overall, Zyffre doesn't have strong negative opinions of the Inquest, but he did take issue to the cruelty inflicted upon the other races for science.

Raennyn was raised as an Inquest test subject and a living weapon. He doesn't question what the Inquest does. Rae started to develop a personality after he was freed from Ardjin's facility thanks to the Thuamanova Reactor incident. However, he doesn't have a strong moral compass and he just goes with the flow.

6) What would they be doing if they had never joined?

I've answered this for both Ardjin and Raennyn, but to summarize: Ardjin would still be an upstanding citizen of Rata Sum and still be in the Arcane Council while working with his sister on the Fractals of the Mists. Rae didn't have a choice in the matter, but if he hadn't been placed in Inquest hands, he would've been into robotics and golemancy, and likely going into battlebot competitions with his creations.

Zyffre would still be studying Elder Dragon energies but with the Priory, and without the influence of the Inquest. And without the trauma of witnessing The Horrors at the Crucible of Eternity. He'd also wouldn't have met Kuda and have a kid with her if he wasn't recruited into the Inquest.

9) Current Inquest agents: Their least favorite aspect of their job. Former agents: Parts they miss.

Ardjin hates doing any sort of paperwork. That is his least favorite aspect of his job. It's a good thing he has a highly competent and trusted secretary to do his paperwork for him.

Zyffre, being ex-Inquest, does miss the available tech and the extensive research on the dragons the Inquest offered for him. He also misses his girlfriend Kuda and his daughter Ruxia. A lot.

Rae's least favorite part of his job is his quarterly deep maintenance. His handlers treated him like expensive property. Pretty much had to open him up to keep his heart and lung augmentations working properly.

ASURA APPRECIATION WEEK 2023

DAY ONE - AUGUST 20th (I am LATE whoops)

Talk about one of your asura OCs! Who are they? What's their Deal™? (@asura-appreciation-corner)

I'm late to this cus I have potato for a brain orz

So, for the first (belated) day of Asura Appreciation Week 2023, here's a brief summary of my best boy, Zyffre!

Zyffre's a member of the Durmand Priory. In fact, he was born there in 1300AE, to Magister Luura and Councillor Ardjin. He was fascinated with Elder Dragons and the properties of their magic, and that's the field he went into studying.

In his youth, his mother would take him along on her expeditions with her team. He was raised by her and her team, as well as being babysat by Steward Gixx (his grandfather) when Luura was on more dangerous expeditions.

When Zyffre came of age to enter the Colleges, he went into Synergetics. After graduating, he went on his first expedition with his first krewe to Mount Maelstrom. He crossed paths with Kuda and fell head-over-heels for her. He was then inducted into the Inquest and worked at the Infinite Coil Reactor, as well as becoming Kudu's apprentice. He also knocked up Kuda and had a daughter with her.

The Infinite Coil Reactor would have been Zyffre's dream job, had it not been for the horrible experiments that went on there. Eventually, he left the reactor before the events of Crucible of Eternity occurred and returned to the Priory. He continued his research on the Elder Dragons and became a professor at the Priory.

He was later sent to aid the Pact when Jormag and Primordus began to stir. He teamed up with Taimi and Gorrik to help the Commander(s) deal with the situation.

After all is said and done, Zyffre continued his studies with the wild magic Aurene was purifying, and he'll be involved with the upcoming forces that are making themselves known.

Honestly, if Zyffre had stayed with the Inquest instead of returning to the Priory, he most likely would've ended up being a megalomanical overseer

Alright, time to share the handful of Asura OCs I have

First we have Bioengineer Ardjin and Magister Luura

These two hooked up for like a year before Ardjin dipped out, leaving Luura to raise their son Zyffre on her own. Fortunately, Luura had a fantastic Priory expedition team who looked after her progeny with her. Plus, Steward Gixx also helped watch Zyffre when Luura went on dangerous expeditions (in my story, Luura is Gixx's daughter)

Ardjin was part of the krewe that had experimented on the Secondborn Sylvari. He got into a disagreement with Vorpp and left the krewe. He was interested in splicing Sylvari, successfully creating a few spliced Sylvari-animal beings. He was also hired by a Miss B to create a spliced Sylvari/Krait. This ended in several failures, but he finally created a successful one that needed to be incubated. This creature he made was taken into the Nightmare Tower, and would later be slain by the Marjory, Kasmeer, and the Commander

Next is Zyffre and his daughter, Ruixa

Zyffre was born in the Durmand Priory and used to go on safe expeditions with his mother, Luura. Luura took on an expedition to Orr, and this was about the same time Zyffre was old enough to attend one of the Colleges at Rata Sum. He graduated and was supposed to join a krewe at the Thaumanova Reactor; however, his path crossed Kuda and he fell head-over-heels for her. This meeting would land Zyffre an apprenticeship with Kudu at the Crucible of Eternity. Things eventually didn't work out for Zyffre, so he returned to the Priory (went into hiding) and continued his research on Elder Dragon magic.

Ruixa was Zyffre and Kuda's daughter. She had no interest in Elder Dragons and didn't care for her parents' research. Her passion was in birds and she became an ornithologist. She's got a decent relationship with Zyffre since he had absolutely adored her when she was a progeny. Sadly, her mother took her away and Ruixa wouldn't see her father again for several years. She only happen to find Zyffre by chance and the two are building a new bond as father and daughter.

And here is Raennyn and Aezzil

Raennyn (aka Rae) is Zyffre's half-brother. His father is Ardjin and his mother was an Inquest (haven't made his mom and dunno if i will). Rae grew up with the Inquest, becoming an experiment that enhanced his reflexes and abilities. He became a proficient bounty hunter and assassin. His main job was to hunt down other Inquest members who owe a heavy dept or needed to be taken out. His last contract ended horribly, having lost both his legs in the failure. These days, he doesn't do as much bounty hunting nor assassinations. Instead, he makes his own prosthetics and plays with chemicals (as in getting high af). He and Zyffre get along pretty well.

Aezzil was born and raised in Lion's Arch. He lost his parents during Scarlet Briar's attack on Lion's Arch. He was an orphan who was taken in by survivors. When he was older, he became a broker for the Black Lion Trading Company. On the side, though, he's a smuggler. Aezzil used to smuggle "subjects" to the Inquest, but after an incident where he almost lost his life, he stopped dealing with the Inquest. He has connections to some shady characters and does business with powerful people around Tyria.

So that's nearly all my Asura OCs. The only one I haven't shown is my "dragon corrupted" Kudu clone. But you know, he's an NPC clone and not my OC so he doesn't count lol

And just for fun: who are your nicest OCs that aren't complete doormats? Would they kill if they had to?

Not as much anymore. My usual buddies are all busy with life things, myself included. I kinda just log in for quick dailies and maybe complete a map or two. For the most part, I am considered inactive in-game.

I would have to say Aurenthir is my nicest and kindest OC.

He tries his best to help others where he can, and being a mender, he tends to the injured. He's also become something of a therapist to ex-Mordrem, helping them to either re-acclimate back into society, or find a place for them to try and have peace away from others who may antagonize them. Aurenthir seems passive, but he could definitely fight back and/or kill if he has to. He wasn't always a mender, and he is proficient with swords, bows, and firearms.

Although, only my "main timeline" Aurenthir is nice. The Aurenthir in the "didn't get traumatized early in life" AU is a cocky ass and will step on others to reach his goals lol.

Zyffre is another who I would consider a nice OC.

He isn't as all-giving as Aurenthir, but he has a lot of compassion and he's oftentimes encouraging others. Also an OC that could kill if he has to.

Lyikera is definitely a nice OC.

She's very kind, but since she is a Commander and intricately linked/bonded to Aurene, she has killed and will kill again to protect the world she loves.

he began working on new prototype golems that were powered by Elder Dragon energies (he mainly used Destroyers for his prototypes)

Some random tidbits about Zyffre. This is more a refresher to myself than anything, but enjoy if you read this

Zyffre has trouble sleeping ever since he started working at the Crucible of Eternity. He loved the prospect of studying and understanding elder dragon energies, but he absolutely abhorred the experiments that occurred on innocent victims and Inquest liked to call "subjects." Even after leaving the Crucible, he still has trouble sleeping due to frequent nightmares.

Zyffre's a Professor at the Durmand Priory. Steward Gixx would tell him to do seminars for the students and Zyffre will agree to it even tho he doesn't like doing seminars. He somehow convinces his colleague Professor Thistle Thornsworth (belonging to @notenoughplants) into joining him, only to vanish last minute, leaving Thistle to do the seminar himself. He treats Thistle to lunch afterwards so it's fine :) all the while Thistle just squinting at him like "u lil dik" huehue

Zyffre doesn't like to go out and drink alcohol. He's a very emotional drunk and he'll start sobbing about how much he misses Kuda

Zyffre's created some prototype golems that use Destroyers to power the energy core. The cores were mini versions of the energy core used in the Iron Forgeman in Sorrow's Embrace (Story Mode), a core that he also made the blueprint for in my story. These protype golems don't really go anywhere or have any use, but the results of the dragon energies do come in handy by the time IBSaga hits.

Some bonus tidbits that's been scrapped from when I was first building up Zyffre's story

he was initially going to be Sieran's partner and he was going to propose to her. This has long been scrapped and now instead Sieran was his best friend/sister-figure growing up at the Durmand Priory

he was going to have a half-sister, but that's been scrapped. Maybe. (I mean, Ardjin did get around with a lot of Asuran ladies, it's possible Zyffre could have other half-siblings other than Raennyn lol)

waaaaay before IBSaga was even on the table (when HoT came out), I was planning to have Zyffre corrupted at the Crucible with Primordus's energy and become a feral Champion of Primordus controlled by Kudu. Scrapped this idea ages ago, but it was kinda funny playing through IBSaga and seeing what happened to Braham and thinking back on this old idea lol

Here’s my Asura lads, Zyffre and Raennyn. They’re half-brothers (same father, different mothers) and tend to get along pretty okay

Zyffre’s the scholarly type, studying Elder Dragons for the Priory. Rae’s a fan of recreational drugs and he just wants to vibe in life. Both are ex-Inquest (kinda since it’s not 100% clear if Rae got booted from the Inquest or not)

Both tend to be pretty chill and lax, although Zyffre’s more focused in his work while Rae’s reckless and carefree

They often get into harmless, trivial arguments whenever they meet up, but the one topic really heats them up is the genre of music they like. One of claims EDM/techno is the best there is, while the other claims electro-swing is far more superior. Can you guess who’s into what genre?

The answer is: Rae’s into electro-swing and Zyffre’s into EDM/techno
