Ever heard of the five-toed worm lizard (Bipes biporus)? This burrowing critter isn’t a snake: It’s a member of a group called amphisbaenians, which include mostly legless reptiles. Growing about 8.3 in (21.1 cm) long, this species is an ectotherm, which means its body temperature depends on its immediate environment. Using its tiny clawed digits to dig underground, it tends to hang out closer to the surface during the early hours of the day, then burrows deeper below the Earth as the Sun peaks. It can be found in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula.

LEGLESS LIZARD ENJOYER, YEAH!
I like slow worms specifically cause they're something my dad taught me about extensively (handling, how to check for them before cutting grass, parts of the garden they'll primarily live in, plants you should have so they thrive, that kinda shit) and when I was in school I became the lil guy everyone (including some teachers) went to when they found one in an area that wasn't safe for it. I was relocating these fuckers left and right on school property! I got pulled out of class a few times to get these little guys off the field during others PE classes.
Also I remember one time my dad was holding one and talking to me and my buddy and they asked him if they bite, which he replies "no", and then it proceeds to bite him and draw blood. Funniest interaction ever witnessed. I had to explain to my friend he wasn't lying about the biting and his "no" was meant as a "they're not known for it" rather than a "they're incapable" since dad's English wasn't the best
They're a protected species in the uk, which means buying/selling them and intentionally causing them harm is illegal which I think is pretty neat, but it's also why I was pulled out of class sometimes to deal with them. Since I knew how to safely handle them without making them uncomfortable or drop their tails, I was called on when there was no choice but to move one and there was no adult or student currently present in that class that could deal with them.
I watched two of them bite each other's heads once it was very cute
AAAAAAAAAAAA I fucking love them! When I lived in California and went to high school I'd be called to deal with any animal whatsoever what showed up on school property they didn't want there. Most were snakes and bugs like spiders. I'm known for it in the neighbourhood too and used to get rang by neighbours to remove rattlesnakes, which consisted of me grabbing my bike and a lidded bucket and my tongs and HAULING ARSE to the person's house before they'd kill the snake. I caught maybe a dozen rattlesnakes that way. I miss it. Heaps fun.
