as you might have seen, I dropped the official announcement that there are going to be five new romances throughout larkin. three of which you already kind of knew about, but i wanted to officially introduce them to you tonight! while there is art in the process of being made for all of them, i used my very limited mood board making skills to put together little pieces to give you an idea of what each character looks like/their aesthetic/their vibes.
photo one // miss ethel jackson (bisexual) (she/her) (faceclaims for art purposes: ayo edibiri)
a one-eyed sharpshooter from texas, ethel jackson is the second in command of the notorious ward gang, an advisor to the gang's leader Cassidy, a mother to her son Arthur, and an ex-lover to one Miss Rose Holloway. she is working hard to fill the vacancy left in the gang by the late Miss Caroline Ward--she wants to help her best friend Cas recover from the loss of his sister--but she also wants to do what's best for the gang (and she's not so sure Cassidy continuing to lead is exactly that.)
photo two // adam (straight) (he/him) (faceclaims for art purposes: matthew mconaughey as rustin cohle in true detective)
believing himself to be the First Vampire, the mirrored man described in the Abrams Family Bible, Adam has aligned himself with the Rateliff Fellowship, leading the cult from the shadows in the canyons of Nevada. Thousands of years old, he's walked the earth long in search of his Eve, ready to reclaim his rightful spot in the garden.
photo three // cassidy alan ward (bisexual) (he/him) (face claims for art purposes: alan ritchson)
leader and founder of the notorious band of outlaws, the Ward Gang, Cassidy has brought his people through hard times and even harder times, but with the murder of his twin sister Caroline, he's camped the gang just outside of Larkin, determined to wage a war on the people he believes murdered her: The House Sokolov.
photo four // reyes (bisexual) (she/they) (face claims for art purposes: alexa demie as maddie perez in euphoria)
the resident vampire of the ward gang, reyes is essentially their tank. no one has ever walked a way alive from a fight with her--part of the reason the Wards have survived as long as they have is because of Reyes' presence among their ranks. but they're harboring a secret--one they frequently pray over in their long held tradition of catholic guilt.
photo five // montero moreau (bisexual) (he/she/they) (no fcs at the moment but if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them :))
you've hunted down and killed Montero's coven in Saint Laurent. You've made them look like a fool. They want you dead. And they'll go to the ends of the earth to make sure that happens, all in order to get back within the good graces of their coven's matriarch (and Mont's (sometimes) ex-lover) Daphné Moreau.

What I Read in 2018
I read a lot of partials in 2018. Sometimes that’s for work, but mostly it’s because I decided a few years ago that life’s too short and there are too many books I want to read. Sometimes, too, I think you have to read books at the right time, and so maybe some of these books this year were just not timed right. Maybe I’ll love them later, or never. Maybe they’re just for other people.
So here are the complete books I read in 2018, in the order I read them. The ratio of women to men was intentional.
Outline by Rachel Cusk In Pieces by Kurt Ankeney Women & Power by Mary Beard The Red Address Book by Sofia Lundberg Eden by Andrea Kleine Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erica L. Sanchez In the Country I Love By Diane Guerrero A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle Born to Fish by Tim Gallagher and Greg Myerson The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert The Dark Angel by Elly Griffiths The Women of the Castle by Jessica Shattuck What We Owe by Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde The Bookshop by Penelope Fitzgerald Euphoria by Lily King The Risk of Us by Rachel Howard The Long Way Home by Louise Penny The Stranger in the Woods by Michael Finkel The Book of Speculation by Erica Swyler Witness by Ariel Burger The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffiths See What I Have Done by Sarah Schmidt The Library of Mount Char by Scott Hawkins The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Circe by Madeline Miller When Katie Met Cassidy by Camille Perri Hunger by Roxane Gay Last Woman Standing by Amy Gentry How to Be Loved by Eva Hagberg Fisher Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna  Clarke Severance by Ling Ma Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb The Perfect Explanation by Eleanor Anstruther Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth The Idiot by Elif Batuman Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett Krosoczka Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia In at the Deep End by Kate Davies The Farmer’s Son by John Connell The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander  Lifelines by Heidi Diehl Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward Letters from Max: A Book of Friendship by Sarah Ruhl & Max Ritvo

#batman

i've been such a diehard fan of larkin since i first found it and im so excited by all the new characters! my poor girl Wynonna Abram's is gonna have a hard time choosing between these beautiful fools.
but i was wondering, what with Adam viewing himself as the biblical figure, do he and the other RO's have strong opinions on the Preacher's views/beliefs about religion? for instance, would Adam look unkindly upon a Preacher that didn't truly believe? or would another RO prefer an atheist Abrams?
hey! thank you so much! i'm really glad you enjoy the game! <3
so, Adam's whole thing (especially in the case of a female mc) is that Abrams is fulfilling a destiny, so to speak, so in the end their beliefs don't really matter to him. they'll come around to seeing the truth. they have to. they have to.
in terms of religion, I don't think anybody would be too concerned with the beliefs of the Preacher--more, I think, are they concerned with the fact that they're lying about them.
Nash for example is a lapsed baptist, he doesn't really believe much anymore and kind of thinks that religion shouldn't be the only thing steering you morally. Ace, Hollis, Dominic, Montero and Reyes all find themselves fitting somewhere on the catholic spectrum--whether that be former, lapsed, fairweather believers or devout. Rose is jewish, but she's not really practicing--for the most part. She celebrates holidays and prays, but she's not all that strict about it. Cassidy is christian purely through cultural osmosis. he doesn't have faith in anything really, but there have been a few close calls where he's whipped out the Lord's Prayer, he's more of a believer in luck. Ethel grew up practicing a few different flavors of christianity, but she's long turned her back on Christ. Cyrus is a man of science, but he grew up with his grandmother practicing orthodox christianity and Celina doesn't believe in a higher power other than herself.

here to hopefully help out with some spare change for the RO scenarios- how'd they be as parents? thanks and have a lovely day!
thank you for your spare change lol.
so what I'll say is that not all of the RO's would like to be parents--and I'll specify which ones would/wouldn't, but I'll write about the ones who would :)
nash: would love to potentially have kids one day. he's an uncle to a niece (that he's unfortunately yet to meet :c but is very desperate to.) He'd be very hands on I think--and big on his kids education. I think he'd prefer to raise them out west, beneath the big open skies he's fallen in love with, but he also wouldn't mind heading back to buffalo so that his kids could be more connected with his parents and brother. He'd want a couple kids--he wouldn't think it fair to leave behind an only child when he passed away--and his relationship with his own brother is one of his most treasured friendships.
cyrus: he's...well...he's complicated about kids. on one hand, he'd love to have them, he thinks...but on the other...he's not sure if his heart could take that. not again.
rose: rose took a large part in raising her five siblings, to a point where she views them as her own children, and doesn't think she could handle having any more of her own, nor does she really want them. as a parent she's a hard-ass, very tough on her siblings (but that's only because she loves them so much) she's very protective--but she also believes in pushing them to their fullest potential.
dominic: could not imagine himself as a parent. he can barely handle himself (?) and you expect him to look after another living thing(?) secretly he thinks he wouldn't mind it...but he doesn't trust himself to not fuck it up.
celina: never in a million years would celina sokolova be caught with a child. she is much too happy with her animals. (if this were modern times you KNOW she'd be like a millenial dog mom with an instagram account for her shih tzu and it'd be named something stupid like placek)
hollis: similar boat as dominic--they wouldn't mind a family--but they do not trust themselves to not ruin their kid.
ace: kids was the dream--especially with abrams. a little farm somewhere where they could run around, and ace could grow old surrounded not only by their children, but their grandchildren as well. they'd be loving, much like their own parents were--but tough.
ethel: has a habit of spoiling her kid. not to say that she's a quintessential Boy Mom TM but ethel is a boy mom lmao. Arthur is her little prince, who in her eyes can do no wrong. She wants him to have more than she ever had growing up, and she'll do whatever she can to make that happen.
cassidy: views arthur as his own, so there's a pretty clear indicator of what he'd be like as a father there. Cassidy's father was an evil son of a bitch, so cas is determined to break that cycle with arthur--he's gentle, he's kind--and doesn't behave the way he does with arthur with anyone else.
reyes: she's ambivalent about kids. on one hand the staunch catholic in them very much subscribes to the 'be fruitful and multiply' mindset...but on the other--they're afraid she'd ruin them.
montero: would definitely be on the r/childfree subreddit LMFAO. not a fan of kids, not in a million years.
adam: he's always been curious about fatherhood--he'd like to one day, to have something to call his own, to have a child...he supposes that is most likely the end goal here--but is he ready? he doesn't know.

Knowing that she was once real, something tangible, rather than just this martyred figure Cassidy’s made up in his head--it keeps him going. It keeps him blood-thirsty.
new cassidy short up on patreon! your first little glimpse at the legendary outlaw of the west, and his thoughts prior to the preacher's arrival! <3
