OC Face Claims
Thanks for the tag @ranawaytothedas !
Tumblr media
Jensen Ackles as both young and older Alistair.  I know he’s a common pick, but that’s because he fits, both in looks and personality.  In my Sirra Brosca universe he’s 20 years old and in my Rylie Trevelyan ‘verse, he’s 31 when he meets the Inquisitor. That’s why he’s on the list twice and looks a little different. Youthful vs. rugged.
Lily Collins as Sirra Brosca.  She’s got the same intense stare, the perfectly arched eyebrows, those full lips that Alistair is obsessed with, and waves of dark hair.  Give her some sexy tattoos and tons of piercings and you have my Carta babe in the flesh. Her voice claim is Sophia Bush though, raspy and sultry.
Nicole Kidman as Rylie Trevelyan.  Young and blonde and fresh-faced are the keywords I wrote for Rylie when I imagined her. This pic of Nicole when she was younger nails it.  Pouty lips, unusually light blue eyes, and more than a little uncertain but trying to wear a brave face.
Cobie Smulders as Charise Trevelyan.  Confident, natural, poised, and three steps ahead sums up Charise. Cobie displays all of that here.  Charise can play the Game and shiv you in the dark while tossing jabs about her foes ineptitude...in bed.  (cue Varric groaning in the background)
Chris Hemsworth as Varric Tethras.  LOOK AT THE MAN! That jawline, those lips, that goddamn sexy stubble that pairs so fucking well with that man-bun. Ugh...dead.  Varric does the same thing to me whenever he’s on screen - don’t even get me started on THE VOICE (essentially, sex personified).  Yeah, Hemsworth gives me serious Varric vibes.
Tagging @cartadwarfwithaheartofgold @theaiobhan @jennserr @charlatron and whoever else!!

#9 for allll the ships!
Thanks for the ask!  This one is super cute!
9. Who is ready to throw down and who is ready to make a flower crown?
For Sirra and Alistair, Sirra is always the one who is ready to throw down.  She is a scrappy ex-Carta babe.  In classic Sirra fashion, she once told Alistair, “one smart comment and I feed them to the darkspawn” and to this day, he caaaaan’t quite tell if she’s kidding or not…?  He just wants to take a nap that is not in a tent, thank you very much!
Rylie and Alistair are reversed here.  Rylie is the one who would love to hide under her bed from Josephine and the stress of being Inquisitor to weave flowers in her hair.  Alistair is a hardened Blight veteran and is always in major “must protect my fragile girlfriend” mode.  After his latest damsel in distress mission, Alistair sleeps with one eye open and his sword propped up by the bed.  No one is allowed to enter the Inquisitor’s chambers in the morning if Alistair is not awake and/or gives approval first, as Cullen discovered when Alistair sent him ass over teakettle when he arrived one morning for a briefing Rylie forgot about and overslept for.
Charise is 50/50, but since she duels with words as readily as blades, people only die when they really and truly piss her off. The rest of the time she is perfectly happy to enjoy stolen moments of domestic bliss with her lover. Varric sits back and watches her shenanigans with a smile while praying that she doesn’t tell him to dust off Bianca, because he’s getting too old for this shit, frankly.

Charise at the Winter Palace.  Think purple!Hawke with baggage to choke a dragon and you wonder why she and Varric hook up?  Flirtatious and dangerous - do not make the mistake of assuming that giggle in the dark is good for your health.

Spicy Tangential Opinion
Name: Jordie is what everyone calls me and my username on Tumblr and AO3 is Lostinfantasies38, so I’m easy to track down
Fandoms: Over the years there have been many fandoms I’ve held dear, but my recent work is in Dragon Age and Dear Evan Hansen. I have temporarily left DA for some fresh air in DEH and have been doing very well there.
Most Popular Oneshot: I actually have a tie for this one and surprisingly, they are from separate fandoms.
Permanent Ink from DA: Origins, featuring Alistair and my male Warden OC Zane Cousland is quite spicy and tender. If you like pining bi-Alistair and schmexy love interests, this one is for you.
For You I Could Be was my very first DEH fic and it’s taken the fandom by storm, which still shocks the pants off me. It’s a deviation from canon and focuses on Evan and Connor realizing they have feelings for each other. Read the tags though since triggering content is mentioned.
Most Popular Multichapter: I’m sure you’re all tired of hearing about Sun Touched and Find Me Well Within Your Grace, but they are tied yet again. Sun Touched is my Dwarven Warden novelization of DA: Origins with Sirra Brosca and Alistair. Find Me Well is a head-canon fueled prequel of DA featuring young Cullistair at the abbey.
I won’t bore you all with the details, but I am very proud of both fics. I hope to come back and finish them once I’m the right head-space to devote the time to them that they deserve.
Actual Worst Part of Writing: The plot and staying on target. I tend to get side tracked by character development at times and that can derail an entire story if I’m not careful. I’m also incredibly careful to not lose a character’s voice while trying to flesh out a whole new side of them in my work. It’s a delicate balance. I want to do them justice, so while playing with them in AUs is fun, I still want them to sound like “them” and not caricatures.
How You Choose Your Titles: Through blood, sweat, and typically numerous tears and hair pulling sessions. I like my titles to reflect the story, but not sound too fucking cheesy, and sometimes that feels like an impossible task. I try to avoid using song lyrics personally, but I have done it once or twice in a pinch, I won’t lie.
Do you outline: FUCK NO. I have tried and I can’t stick to them. I’m also the type that once I write it out, even in an outline, I lose interest in that particular piece. I need the scenes to be fresh and literally banging on the door of my brain so they flow properly. Everything is fixed/cleaned up in editing, but if the emotion is missing in the initial draft it takes a monumental effort later to keep it from ringing hollow. Sometimes the drafts can’t be saved, period, after outlining and I’ve scraped entire stories/chapters because of it.
Ideas I probably won’t get around to, but wouldn’t it be nice: I have an entire folder of shelved DA stories in the wings that I’m not sure will ever see the light of day now. I’m hesitant to say “never,” but truthfully the more time passes the more likely that word becomes.
They include: (1) a modern carta/cop AU ft. Sirra/Alistair, (2) part 2 and 3 planned continuations of Find Me Well following Alistair and Cullen through DAI, (3) Varric/Charise Trevelyan DAI story full of intrigue and the House of Repose, (4) world weary veteran Grey Warden Alistair/Rylie Trevelyan DAI, chock full of dashing heroics and a swooning damsel in distress, (5) Cullen/Eryka Cadash DAI with lots of tension/angst due to the Carta & Commander angle causing friction [interpret that how you will, lol!] (6) a modern color soulmate AU with a unique twist ft. Cullen/Alistair (7) a Siren!AU ft. Sirra/Alistair and a cutthroat island of traitorous bitches (8) and finishing my incomplete DA stories. As a bonus, (9) there is a football AU for DEH that I started during NaNo, but it may end up in the scrap pile, too. I’m still picking at it, but meh, we’ll see.
Callouts at Me: Guilt.
Honestly, I know we do this for free and we have no obligation to write/complete these stories, but we all do it because we love it. Yet with each incomplete story, coupled with my rather abrupt departure from the DA fandom, my guilt has grown exponentially.
However, I can’t allow it to hold me back and continue to eat away at my soul. It keeps me from being productive and having a hope and a prayer of finishing what I started. If this means that I play in a new fandom for a while, then so be it. I wish I had more familiar faces to follow me there, but I understand it’s not for everyone and I would never make demands. Though, that doesn’t mean I don’t miss my usual readers and the comments I looked forward to, but I have relocated and I have to accept that. Just know that I still love you all and miss the fuck out of you.
Best Writing Traits: Emotionally evocative prose and creating realistically flawed characters are what I’m best at. My characters are not perfect, because who the fuck can relate to perfection? Who would want to? They are flawed, broken, dealing with a shit ton of trauma as best as they can, and generally bumbling through life. Yes, they may have a LI, but they are not “cured” by love. They are supported by an equally flawed person as they continue to stumble through life, though with fewer face plants than before because they have someone to (hopefully) catch them whenever they aren’t overwhelmed with their own crises. And making all the pain and growth as lyrical as possible is my favorite part.
Sometimes I nail dialogue, too, but more often than not that’s simply luck after hours of talking to myself and laughing/crying so hard I had to include it in a fic.
Spicy Tangential Opinion: Every single kudo, like, reblog, or comment is special. I know it’s easy to focus on the “quantity” of them - but each one represents a real person that one of my stories has emotionally resonated with. Every day we write and post we’re affecting real people behind our stats, which means we can treasure every single one. Talking about the numbers and engagement erases that fact, and I wish more people treasured every individual interaction for the meaningful gesture about their work it is. Each one is a little spark of ‘you are loved’ in the world. {Keeping this Manka because you summed it up beautifully! Bravo!}
Throwing this out into the world! Tag list below (authors only this time, sorry my lovely artist friends) but feel no obligation to do so! Also sorry if you already got tagged!

The Author and a Poet? ❤
Ahhh, yes... Varric and Charise. I knew you’d recognize them. I’ll post a snippet of their story for you, Oh Lover of Chest Hair.
“Don’t think, Varric – just feel.  If I’m your poet, then you are my storyteller and we are well suited. Not to mention that I am head over heels for you. You’re just going to have to accept the inevitable.” He cocked an eyebrow at her while waiting for the punchline.“You are doomed to climb a tree every time you get into bed with me.” Varric barked a laugh and she was gratified as the tendrils of doubt cleared from his gaze.
“As long as it’s not an actual tree to hide from Venatori, I’m okay climbing you,” he winked and  Charise giggled at the quick rejoinder. Smiling to himself, he basked in her infectious laughter, letting it wash over him like a cleansing rain. Shit, he’d missed her. Seven days without her joy and their private jokes was too damned long.
Varric sucked in a deep breath and confessed. “I’m the one who should be sorry.”  Charise stared at him quizzically while he rubbed his hands along her arms nervously. “I’m sorry I didn’t come to you those last nights in Skyhold. I acted like a damned fool. We could have avoided the past week of bullshit if I’d removed my head from my ass.”
Blowing out a breath, Charise nodded solemnly. “Maybe, but I should have gone to you after the thing with Dorian to try to clear the air and I didn’t. I tried speaking to you along the road, but there were too many ears and not enough walls to guarantee privacy.” He nodded lamely, still trying to shoulder all the blame, and she smiled softly.
“You don’t know your worth, Varric. Even now, you’re trying to shoulder all the guilt yourself, which is rather chivalrous, but rude. Didn’t your mother teach you to share?” she teased.
Varric snorted wryly. “No, but she did teach me to hold my liquor and I’m really good at using it as a crutch when I feel like running away.” Charise rocked back on her heels mildly surprised by his honesty. Trying to keep it light, he shrugged nonchalantly. “You’re not the only one with noble family issues, Poet. I’ve just had more time to deal with mine.”
“You mean, drown yours?” she said dryly.
“Same thing, really,” he smirked.

14 Days of DA Lovers - Day 4 Napping Together
@scharoux @14daysofdalovers
Pairing: VarricTethras/Charise Trevelyan
Tumblr media
Safeguard
Warm and spicy, comforting and strong.  Leather and parchment, wood-smoke and musk.  A fragrance coiled around her heart, much like the man it belonged to currently coiled around her.  She smiled into the crook of his arm tucked under her head to spare her cheek the press of the ground.  The weight of his other secure around her middle, large hand splayed comfortingly across her stomach.  The warmth emanating from his touch flared through her body, burning hot and not as hot as she would like, at the same time.
This was the only place in all of Thedas she felt safe – sheltered in his embrace, tucked against his stocky frame.  Varric would let nothing happen to her.  Whenever he was nearby, Charise dropped her guard, lowered her inhibitions, and trusted someone else to take care of her for once.  It was beautifully freeing and supremely intoxicating, rescinding that level of hyper-vigilant control.
The ambient noise of the oasis waterfall bled into the sun-kissed heat of their tent as little puffs of his breath ghosted her neck.  Charise snuggled closer to him, her heart overflowing at the sound of his pleased hum.  Broad fingers snaked up her abdomen, dwarfing her smaller digits in his grasp, and gently squeezed.  An unspoken promise, reassuring and affirming.  A soft smile graced her lips as sleep descended – protected, shielded, loved, at last.

14 Days of DA Lover’s - Day 6 Fighting Together
@scharoux @14daysofdalovers   Read on AO3
Pairing: VarricTethras/Charise Trevelyan (this comes from an unpublished WIP)
Tumblr media
Dead Drop
They had no trouble reaching the city, now it was simply a matter of waiting for the time to make the drop.  Leliana scheduled it for midnight the following night to give them plenty of time to reach their destination from Skyhold, in case they encountered problems en route.
In order to not attract attention, the rogues chose an out of the way tavern for their lodgings, entering the building separately and paid for separate rooms.  A dwarf and a pretty human traveling together would set tongues wagging and that was the last thing anyone wanted on a reconnaissance mission.  They made it a point to not interact in public or acknowledge the other at the tavern.  When scouting the layout of the city’s side streets, Varric left Bianca locked in the trunk in his room, carrying a standard bow with a dirk tucked in each boot for close quarter fighting.
Chariseemployed a similar tactic to blend in.  She wore her old merc uniform and kept a perpetually bored expression on her face to disappear into the crowds.  If she accidentally gave the impression she was looking for a fight in her mercenary gear, someone might take her up on it and blow her cover.  And she required the thick leather gauntlets of her armor to hide her mark, which meant dressing as a local woman was out of the question.
The night of the drop arrived.  The rogues found a local pub close to the location and killed time sipping watered down ale until fifteen til midnight.  Charise left first as she was the one carrying the package and Varric followed a few moments later.  They kept to the shadows as best as they could and Varric’s eyes roved every corner to guarantee no one attempted to jump the Inquisitor ahead of him.
Reaching the alley, Charise strolled casually around the winding slum before leaning against an empty barrel with a small raven etched into the side.  Varric kept a wary eye on her and their surroundings from his hidden position.  His skin prickled in the chill night air.  He wasn’t sure if his nerve endings tingled after so many days of being near her and not speaking or because all hell was about to break loose.  The Chantry bells ominously pealed the midnight hour.  Yawning, Charise pushed off the barrel, casually flicking a small parcel that could be mistaken for a soiled handkerchief into the empty barrel and sauntered away.  She hadn’t taken ten steps when both exits of the alley were cut off by Venatori.
Shit, fuck, damn it!
Snatching her daggers from their sheathes, she crouched into her fighting stance.  Arrows rained from the sky, taking out a small swath of Venatori.  The Tevinters craned to see where the archer was hiding and Charise took the opportunity to stealth behind the group in front of her to flank the lead mage.  It did not outright kill him, as she hoped, but it sent him sprawling across the stone.  As he used his staff to right himself a poison laced arrow burrowed into his neck and he collapsed choking on his own blood.  Charise receded into stealth.  Reappearing next to an archer at the opposite end of the alley, she felled him with a dual stab to his abdomen.
Arrows followed in her wake, debilitating her foes with poison and shattered kneecaps, as she spun and slashed through the crush of Tevinters.  One of the Venatori discovered Varric’s hiding place, but Charise’s throwing dagger lodged in his spine before he could alert the others to his location.  In thanks, a feather dressed shaft buried itself in an assassin’s forehead as he attempted to flank her.  With a rapid-fire smile, Charise vanished in a puff of smoke, drawing the last remaining Venatori from Varric with a flirtatious giggle some distance away.  The smash of glass sent bees and wasps descending on a trio of Venatori archers and Varric released another volley of metal-tipped rain to pin the flailing Venatori to the cobblestones.
The silence was immediate and deafening.  They paused for a few heartbeats to see if another wave of Venatori would emerge. None did, so Charise brusquely wiped her blades on the nearest body.  She stealthed to ensure her exit from the area would not attract any attention.  Varric ditched the stolen bow and arrows behind a refuse pile and yanked his flask from his pocket.  In case anyone spotted him too close to the scene of the crime, he’d spill some whiskey on his duster and pretend to be Stone drunk.  But the streets were ominously quiet, proving his suspicions that the Vints bribed the city guard.
Returning his flask to his jacket, he traveled another block and whistled a few bars of the Charger’s ditty.  Charise broke her stealth in the shadow of a merchant’s stall up the road.  Varric joined her and they quickly decided on the fastest route back to the inn to retrieve their things and leave town.  They could talk more freely once they put this city behind them.
Separating only long enough to pack, Charise shimmied out of the window of her room instead of taking the front door, in case they were being watched.  Varric caught a flash of chestnut on the landing as her head disappeared from view and heard her roll when she hit the ground.  The dwarf smiled at the Inquisitor’s ingenuity.  No one would know she grew up noble with the wicked street smarts she possessed or the way she acted.
Grabbing his beloved Bianca and his pack from the trunk at the foot of the bed, he tiptoed down the stairs and slunk out the door, grateful that the innkeeper kept the hinges well-oiled so they did not creak.  They met up by the alienage gates since it was the easiest landmark to locate on the way out of Val Chevin.  Charise handed him a stealth potion to ensure they both escaped undetected.  Varric smirked and gave her a cheeky wink as he smashed his bottle.  Chuckling softly, she broke her own flask as they slipped unnoticed out of Venatori territory.
