This cider is so called because it’s made from 5 different types of cider apples; namely Yarlington Mill, Michelin, Dabinett, Kingston Black and Foxwhelp. It starts out by being super fresh + juicy and I kinda think to myself ‘oh is that it?’ I know, I’m so impatient! However, I soon realise there’s a hell of lot more to it. A notable spiciness dances over my tongue followed by a slight sourness mid-palate, but it ain’t over yet - there’s a big... no MASSIVE hit of superb smokiness which fills my whole mouth towards the end and this lingers for what seems like forever! Today I spotted this cider from a new-to-me cider mill in Ramona called Turquoise Barn. The cider is their special edition for Independence Day called Apple Pie a la Mode. With a name like apple pie I expected it to be cloyingly sweet but, on the heels of some bone-dry ciders I've sampled of late, I was looking for something sweet. Fortunately, Turquoise Barn's Apple Pie a la Mode is definitely not too sweet, but it's not too dry either. It's a complex mix of sweet and bitter with a nice floral nose and (something the dry ciders sorely miss) a strong apple flavor. And, oh yeah, at 8.2 ABV it's in the realm of what I want in an apple cider. Unfortunately, this is a seasonal cider for Turquoise Barn, but I can't imagine this is a one-off, I'll definitely have to try some of their regular offerings. @turquoisebarncider #cider #applecider #ciderreview (at Escondido, California)

Comments: Dry, crisp, not sweet but not sour or bitter. Has a nice lingering aftertaste.The great thing about this is I can get it fresh just down the road - Cheers!
