Jonathan and Clarence are sat on the couch by the fire. The wind outside the house whistles loading, both men can hear a closely tree tapping against the window as the wind threatens to uproot it.

Clarences paranoia may be vampire based but it doesn't mean that he's not affected by other things. Sometimes he wants physical comfort, other times just being near the human can set him off. When Clarence is as scared as he is right now, it's best to sit quietly and let him approach.

Reid had done just that. The former soldier started on the chair the farthest away from Jonathan, he had kept his distance watching the vampire warily. Even if he knew logically that Reid wouldn't hurt him, sometimes he just couldn't shake the thought.

A loud clatter outside had made the human yelp. He jumped up from his seat before quickly coming to Jonathan side. Hiding his face against the Doctors shoulder.

Reid had been reading a book until he felt the frightened soldier pressing against him. He let go of his book for one moment, adjusting his arm to hold the human. Once he was sure that Clarence was comfortable with their new position, he picked his book back up and continued to read.

Clarence felt silly. It was a storm and nothing more. Besides the only vampire who could get into his house was Jonathan, it had been three months since he gave his lover a spare key. Even now, even though he had a key and permanent permission to enter, Jonathan still knocked on the door and politely asked if he could come in.

Eventually, Clarence moved to get a blanket wrapping it around his shoulders.

Being so close to Jonathan, being wrapped in a blanket by the fire, the former soldier felt safe and that brought on a wake of fatigue. His eyes felt heavy so he reasoned he would just close them for a few minutes.

Jonathan finished reading just before sunrise. He marked his place in his book with a scrap of paper, carefully extracted himself from Clarences hold so that he could close the curtains. He put the fire out and then returned to his seat, allowing the human to snuggle into him again.

He smiled softly to himself placing a simple gentle kiss to the top of the other man's head as he whispered "Sleep well, Clarence. I'm here..."

The sleeping soldier smiled even as he remained completely still, seemingly still asleep. Jonathan felt his undead heart lighten at that. He ran his fingers through the other man's hair until he too succumbed to sleep.
