Okay more on Matt having to focus his senses and actually like try hard not to be overwhelmed
We have this panel:
Tumblr media
And in the Netflix series I just noticed that when Matt focuses on something else, a watch a voice whatever, everything else does actually fade and gets echoey and louder?? Like it's noticable and shows how he uses his abilities

It has been a bad week for the science, so I have decided to drink and rewatch Daredevil from the top. So far I’m on Episode 2, and I’m focusing on totally different things this time through
Like for starters - it’s so obvious (from an obsessive and heavily fanfiction-influenced view) how much Matt is absolutely winging it and so new to the job, he’s just making shit up as he goes. He’s also so much more of a Dick™️ than I remembered, likely because he’s actually suffering and actively in pain.
Like when he’s on the rooftop with Claire, he’s had the crap beat out of him bc his black outfit, while sexy as fuck, is basically made out of spandex-reinforced tissue paper, and he’s being brusque and harsh with his answers to her questions, but also cheeky and joking to try and cut the severity of the situation. He’s soooo new to this, he hardly knows who he is or what his place is in all this shit, so he’s covering with flirtiness and cheeky smiles and wit and hoping that she doesn’t see how totally fucked he is and just hoping that things will work out in the end. It’s a stark contrast from Season 2 Matt, who dons that suit and, from that point forward, is all business. He’s not stopping to hang out with people or barely getting through the night - he’s got his patrol down to a finely honed routine and he knows what he’s getting into when he steps out onto his roof. He’s practiced.
This Matt? He’s a fuckin shit show.

In Episode 3 of Season 1 when Wesley visits Nelson & Murdock, there are three things I have realized:
1) Right before Wesley knocks, Matt turns his head to the door because he hears him. He usually tries not to show how sensitive his senses are, but he reacts as soon as Wesley’s in front of the door and it’s honestly a very interesting detail they incorporated and Charlie does it perfectly
2) My jaw dropped when Matt asked for Wesley’s name and he didn’t answer so he goes, “That’s not what I was asking :)” and his grin is so sour, I feel like he wants to scratch his eyes out (which he does want). Because he gets a feeling that Wesley is dangerous, and that’s why he follows him and low and behold! His suspicions are right.
3) He’s so eager to figure out what’s wrong and why this threatening man is coming to them, setting off all of his alarms, his wound even starts to open up because that man is tense as fuck and sees danger everywhere. And then he risks everything AGAIN by taking the case Wesley brought to them, walking right into the trap set for them only because he wants to get ahead of whatever he thinks is going on in Hell’s Kitchen. That shows how dedicated he is and he can’t leave shit be even if it killed him.
I want to use what little knowledge I have of psychology from school to write a character study essay for him because Matt Murdock’s character is so complex and riddled with issues, I’d have a field day.
And the writers of the show wrote Matt’s character in such detail for this show and showed all of his quirks, and Charlie executes it perfectly. He poured his soul into portraying Matt Murdock, and I really can’t wait for BA to come out so I can see him do it again.

It's that time again! The Great Annual DAREDEVIL rewatch! Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of the Netflix show and the only season of The Defenders are gonna be binged over the next 3 days. It's still the best Marvel show ever and hopefully by next year's rewatch the first season of Daredevil: Reborn will have dropped. I got plenty of gifsets and art to reblog and I am ready to get this started!

Something small I love about Daredevil 1.09. When Father Lantom is telling Matt the story about Gahiji in Rowanda, they don't recreate the story. You don't see it being acted out on screen. I feel like that's all that's done now, especially in other Marvel properties. It might have been a budget thing, but keeping it on Matt and Father Lantom is so powerful. Especially with all the reactions Charlie gives in his acting. You can see how much Father Lantom's words affect him. How he is truly listening/hearing Father Lantom. I just really love it.

Rewatching season 1 of Daredevil and I had forgotten how often they call Hell's Kitchen "the city" or "this city". It never stops being funny to me. My dudes, it's a neighborhood.
I actually love a hyper local plot. I love that Daredevil works almost exclusively in his neighborhood. The one he lives in the one he grew up in. It's a nice contrast to the Avengers (except Spider-Man) who come in, break stuff and leave.
Hell's Kitchen is very much one neighborhood. It's not the city or a city. It's 34th st to 59th st west of 8th Ave.
