A/N: happy early birthday, love! Hope you enjoy this fluffy goodness, let me know your thoughts <3
Summary: DS Y/N Warner spends her birthday at work with her boss/partner DI Alec Hardy
Tags: fem!reader or fem!pronouns, fluff, established relationship, cussing/sexual inferences, just fluffy goodness
She'd sat in her car for a full 10 minutes, considering the merits of actually going into work. For one, it was her birthday and that could mean kind coworkers, an easy day, and loads of sweets. But, on the other hand, it was her birthday and that could mean everyone forgetting, giving her the shit end of the stick and being stuck in the office until at least 11pm. She glared at her mobile that still proudly declared that her boyfriend/boss DI Alec Hardy had not sent a Happy Birthday text. Or even a good morning text - though they weren't the sort of couple who did that anyway.
Y/N couldn't quite tell if he forgot or just wasn't a texter. Though she knew both could be true. She grumbled as she unbuckled, going inside like she knew she was going to anyway. The petty part of her knew she wasn't going to announce her birthday, they'd have to be the ones to remember.
The waiting had made her late, and Katie was not shy in saying so as she walked in and placed her stuff on her desk.
"You're late." The young officer said without bothering to look up from her papers.
Y/N rolled her eyes, "good observation."
"You're the Detective Sergeant, you shouldn't be late," Katie said, at least looking up this time through pursed lips and narrowed eyes.
Alec came from his office, spectacles on his nose. He looked quite nice today, his shirt freshly ironed and tucked into a neat pair of slacks. Even though he'd been more freshened in the past few years than his once more sickly ways, he hadn't looked that well in ages. Y/N found her brows shooting up in surprise.
"Lay off, Harford," Hardy grumbled without looking up, headed straight for the front of the office where he could delegate tasks for the day. The young officer's cheeks flushed though she maintained a calm expression as she gathered her notes to listen to her superior. Y/N tried to fight the little smile on her face.
"Few things for today, we've got a list of party goers from the Bakers this past weekend. Looks to be about 30." Alec Hardy went through each of the items for the day, a whole list of things that sounded boring and fascinating for the primary two cases and the smaller things. It came down to the final two, collecting witness statements or parking tickets. Y/N loathed parking duty more than anything. It was boring, tedious, and she quite fancied entirely useless to the whole of police work. But she hadn't heard Hardy call for her yet, and on days when it was something as simple as witness statements he'd shove the parking tickets to her. And on her bloody birthday, she groaned internally. "Warner, you're with me for the statements. Harford, parking tickets."
The DC's eyebrows shot up and she held back a very nasty scoff, "I've already got loads to do with the footprint of the thief!"
"And you'll find time for the tickets."
"You don't need two people for the statements," she argued.
"And I can always find another DC, can't I?" Alec finally said, removing his glasses to look Katie directly in the eyes. She cowered under him, though it was the reluctant sort of cower of someone who thought their opinion to be better. "Right, get to work."
People spread out quickly to do their tasks, Ellie popping by to press a quick kiss to Y/N on the cheek and murmur a happy birthday. They’d been friends long enough that Ellie knew Y/N didn’t want to make a big fuss over her birthday if nobody already knew. But she told her that she best have the best day and to cut Alec some slack, “he’s not great with the social stuff, but he cares.”
“I know, I know.”
Ellie grinned, “you have a great day and pop round mine after? Open a bottle of Chardonnay and watch Golden Girls?”
“Sounds amazing.”
"You ready, Warner?" Hardy asked as he left his office, hair just slightly mused and adorable glasses perched on the end of his nose. She smiled, he didn’t often wear those when he wasn’t reading. She loved them, but doubted he knew that.
"Yes, sir."
Ellie pinched Y/N’s elbow as she left to go to her desk for paperwork. DS Warner tried to stop the glee as she reached for her things to do witness statements with Alec. That was the sort of thing she enjoyed, actual footwork. An interrogation would have been nice but those didn't just get scheduled the way a nice ol' statement could've. She would take what she got, Alec telling the young DC to fuck off and to enjoy her time with him.
They walked dutifully down to her car, and to her surprise Alec plucked the keys from her hand and slid into the driver’s seat. He didn’t drive often. Not that he couldn’t, or hated it, but because when his heart condition was flaring up and the bastard was too stubborn to get the pacemaker, she had become the accidental designated driver. So seeing him drive was out of the ordinary.
“You’re driving?” She asked as she slid into the passenger’s seat.
Alec scoffed, adjusting the heat so it was damn near freezing, “you act like I don’t have a license.”
“Sometimes I wonder.”
“Shut it.” His arm came to rest on the back of her seat while he backed out, and she allowed herself to stare at him, just a little. He was her man, after all. She had a little right to do so.
They drive in companionable silence for just under thirty minutes as Alec pulled up to the home of one of the partygoers. This particular man, Teagan Garrett, was on the middle of their list. Just unnoticeable that he didn’t strike any alarm bells, but with no solid alibi at the time of the robbery. Which left them straight at the middle.
DS Warner enjoyed doing this, even if some found it tedious. She didn’t have to spend her day holed up in an office, wondering what the next move was and not knowing where her information was going. Whenever she was in the office, she felt it wasn’t accurately reaching the people on the ground, but that was another issue for another day. Today was her birthday, and she was going to spend it well.
And about 15 minutes later, she was spending it happily eating a Danish in the car as Alec drove to the next house. Garrett wasn’t suspicious at all, but he made a delightful cherry Danish that smeared red on her lips but she didn’t care. Y/N ate it happily and smiled out the window, watching the hills blend together.
Before they left the car for the next one, Alec touched her shoulder gently to get her attention.
“Darling, you’ve got…” he lifted a hand, cradling her jaw as he swiped at the cherry filling along the corner of her mouth. Then, without breaking eye contact through those spectacles, Alec popped his thumb in his mouth, licking it clean of the filling. Her mouth fell open in slight shock, feeling her body thrum under the energy of it. There was a look in his eyes, a quirk of his mouth, that seemed to suggest he knew exactly what he was doing. But he said nothing more as he gathered his belongings and left the car.
She blinked, took a deep breath and one last clench of her thighs before getting out of the car as well. Alec Hardy was already several steps ahead of her, a knowing smirk before putting on his disgruntled detective expression. Y/N didn’t know how to feel. On one hand she wanted to grab him by the back of his neck and force him to use that tongue elsewhere, and on the other she wanted to bash him with her purse for getting her so riled up before the next meeting.
If Y/N had paid much attention to Alec’s actions throughout the day, she would have noticed that he both treated her and teased her continuously. He’d give her a cuppa just the way she liked, then compliment her so blatantly before they had to leave she was bright red. It happened that way all day, and by 10am she’d even forgotten it was her birthday and that Alec had forgotten as well. It was just a bizarre day full of danishes and sexy eyes - though she certainly wasn’t complaining.
By 5pm, her feet were exhausting her. Ellie’s earlier invitation of opening a bottle of wine and watching Golden Girls until they pass out to the floor sounded like an amazing idea.
“D’you mind if we go to Miller’s? Got a packet to pick up.”
Her brows furrowed, “oh, um, yeah. I’ve actually meant to go there myself.”
He nodded this as good news, squeezed her thigh, then continued the drive. She looked out the window to avoid his confident smirk that he’d fired her up, knowing he had. It didn’t take long to reach Ellie’s, and Y/N noticed the lights in the Latimer home were off. She wondered where they were this time of day, it wasn’t like Beth to go out for dinner.
Alec parked and the two of them walked up to the house, his hand resting on the small of her back. She wanted to lean into his comforting touch.
“Have I told you yet you look good today?” Y/N mentioned softly to Alec, looking up at him.
He let out a small smile, “I should tell you that.”
“You already did.” She pointed out.
With a soft touch, Alec grabbed her waist and pulled her against him. All he did was press a soft kiss to her forehead, but it was enough to make her let out a sigh of relief. She wanted to use Alec as a personal comforter and sleep for the next decade.
Ellie swung the door wide open, smile bright and arms wide to scurry the couple in. Her and Alec disappeared into the dining room as Y/N shucked her shoes off.
“Ellie?” She called, not knowing where they’d gone. “Alec?”
“Dining room, darling!” Y/N walked on sore feet through the kitchen, prepared to badger Alec about why he’d run off the second the door opened. But she stopped, staring with wide eyes.
In front of her, Beth and Chloe Latimer, Ellie, and Alec all stood awkwardly around a table covered in her favorite things. A tastefully done dish lie in the center, the smell enough to make her mouth water. And a chilled Chardonnay already opened and poured into a glass in Alec’s proffered hand.
“Happy Birthday!” The girls all squealed out at once, causing Alec’s face to scrunch up in annoyance. The sight made you giggle.
Chloe Latimer went and grabbed Y/N’s hand, leading her to the head of table, “come, come, I’ll prepare a plate for you!”
“Oh my, thank you all so much. This is astounding!”
Ellie shot a pointed look towards DI Alec Hardy, who offered her the chilled glass of wine. He came close enough to whisper and said, “you didn’t think I forgot, didya?”
She flushed, feeling awful guilty now. It wasn’t that he was a bad partner, she’d never thought that. Their lives were beyond stressful, birthdays seemed superficial sometimes.
“You hate these kind of things.”
He cocked his head to the side, “you don’t.”
She set her glass down to grab his face, but he beat her to it, lips meeting hers with that unrestrained passion she found so pleasantly addictive. His beard scraped her skin but she’d found in recent months that she loved that feeling, and he knew it.
Y/N would have loved to carry this makeout session farther, but then she felt a chip thrown at her face by Chloe, and gingerly removed herself from Alec. Her cheeks were flushed bright pink. Beth and Ellie both waggled their eyebrows at her, then burst into laughing upon realizing they did it at the same time.
It was shaping up to be a rather lovely birthday after all.

Chapter 13 Fieldwork
Over the break, I got permission from a close friend of mine to interview his parents and hear their immigration story. Mr. and Mrs. Smith both emigrated from Nigeria, with Mrs. Smith originally being from Imo State, and Mr. Smith being from Anambra State. They began their immigration journey in 1996 and brought along their 2 kids while Mrs. Smith was also pregnant at the time. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were pushed away from Nigeria because of the job opportunities declining, and because both of their hometowns were struck with poverty, which increased ransoms, deaths and other acts of violence. In a pursuit to put her family in a better position, Mrs. Smith decided that they should migrate to the states. Mr. and Mrs. Smith had to first obtain their green cards, which what they described to me was the hardest part about migration because they had to do it the right way. The Nigerian Immigration service lost Mr. Smith's paperwork several times before he was finally able to get his green card almost a year and a half later. About a month before they were set to move to the states, Mr. Smith's father passed away at his home, with this and the delay on his green card he felt like moving to the states might be a waste of time, in his words he felt discouraged, but he decided to go through with the process instead because he thought of his children. Mrs. Smith also had a small dilemma; she wasn't able to get her green card, so Mr. and Mrs. Smith did not tell me how they got to the states with their 2 kids. Once they arrived in the states they settled in DC, later on moving to Edgewood, Maryland in Harford County. Once in Harford County, Mrs. Smith had enrolled into nursing school while also working full time at a Walmart, while Mr. Smith had been working as a receptionist at a car dealership.
Although the journey sounded like a breeze Mr. and Mrs. Smith still faced significant barriers in the process. The main barrier for them was Mrs. Smith and her children not being legal citizens, this made things harder on her and the kids, unlike Mr. Smith. After living in the states for a while Mrs. Smith had 3 more kids, who were all now U.S. citizens since they were born here. Mr. and Mrs. Smith both now speak fluent English but also speak Yoruba which comes from Nigeria. Coming to the states they had to adapt a new way of living and a whole new life, such as what they did, what they were eating etc. They now consider their family to be multicultural as they take part in both Nigerian and American customs.
While The Smiths were able to adjust to the American way of living, doing it wasn't easy. For Mrs. Smith it started with her being an illegal immigrant, which from what she explained to me, was as hard as it sounds. It took her almost a year and a half to get her green card and once she got it, she would enroll into nursing school while working full-time because Mr. Smith's salary wasn't enough to support their family, but always hoping things would turn around, and they did. In 2005, after nursing school, Mrs. Smith was finally a Registered Nurse, and Mr. Smith after years of moving up in the car dealership business, inherited a whole lot from a close friend of his after he passed. The Smith's still live in Edgewood, Maryland till this day and from what they described to me it's everything they wanted since they've arrived here, with all of their children going off to college, 3 of which already graduated, and them owning their own home, they would much rather be here than living in fear in their hometowns in Nigeria.
PS. I used the names Mr. and Mrs. Smith to protect their identities

Why Are Home Heating Oil Prices on the Rise?
If you’re asking why home heating oil prices are on the rise, we can assure you, you’re not alone. Fuel oil delivery prices are going up around the nation and the world. And despite what you may have heard, it’s not because of the politicians in DC.
Crude Oil Prices Are Up
The price of home heating oil has doubled in the last 12 months, due to an international surge in prices for energy commodities. You probably already know that home heating oil is a form of petroleum, made from crude oil. So, when crude oil prices go up, so does the price of home heating oil.
Oil prices fell during 2020, mainly due to decreased demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing factory shutdowns, less traveling, and less driving. But as things are starting to get back to normal, demand for oil and gasoline is going up. And increased demand means increased prices. And of course, home heating oil prices will fall come warmer weather, as demand decreases.
Sadly, the U.S Energy Information Administration (EIA)) predicts that, compared to last winter, heating oil prices will rise by 43%. Let’s all home for a warmer than average winter.
Operating Costs Are Up
In addition to home heating oil prices themselves going up, operating costs for fuel oil delivery companies like Pug’s are going up as well. While we make an effort not to raise our delivery and administrative charges, sometimeswe have to, in order to turn a profit.
With oil and gas prices going up, that means it costs more to keep our fleet running. Even so, you will find our prices to be extremely competitive with other home heating oil delivery companies in the Baltimore area.
We try and maintain our prices by growing our customer base. So, if you’re a current customer and you’re happy with our services, please consider referring us to your friends and family.
Schedule Home Heating Oil Delivery
We clearly post the daily home heating oil price (delivered) on our Home page. We also include a disclaimer that prices are subject to change until the time of delivery. This is because home heating oil prices are very volatile right now. But we can tell you, prices are not expected to go down for quite some time, so if the price sounds good, don’t hesitate to schedule delivery.
Call us at 410-477-3345 or use our contact form to schedule delivery in Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, Harford County, and surrounding areas.

Blood, tears and sea breeze
Summary: The not so peaceful town of Broadchurch face dead again, while Alec Hardy continues his journey to redemption will this school teacher be the key to solve the mystery or just another victim of the ever watching evilness that seems to reside in the town.
First Previous
Epilogue:
"Bloody googles" he said on the phone and Miller could listen how he toss them aside "this is a nightmare Miller"
"Are you at home sir?" She asked simply. It had became a ritual for she, Derek and Hardford to make sure he was at home safe at sound, however annoying it may be for him.
It have been 2 months since he finally got his surgery, that was back in December and after the four days he spent at the hospital recovering from the operation, being constantly pampered and taken care of by them, he went back to work to much of Miller concerned, although Miller suspect his main improvement came after he received an special bouquet of flowers and a card from overseas that he didn't show to anyone.
Then it began the new year, and all the challenges that came for the virus made her anxious about his wellbeing, along with Elaine and even Brian, so the moment they could send him home to quarantine with pay they did, so he was back at his place angry out of his mind, but she was sure this time he would get some proper rest.
"Yes I'm home" Alec said and closed the door of his car "Are you sure we can't talk to Elaine again?"
"Good night sir" Miller said repressing a little laugh and hanged the phone.
Alec walk back to his house, angry but when he opened his door he couldn't help a smile to form in his face to the smell of a homemade dinner... then he remembered he was alone at home, and he run to the kitchen with his heart pounding and hoping, just hoping.
She was there, the way he always hope she will be one day, the smell and Miller desperately making him go home early made him know he was not dreaming, he wanted to scream because he was happy, and ask a lot of questions because he was confused but he went silent, at the moment he most needed to say something he just couldn't. He needed to take in a lot of things.
"Are you alright?" She said with concern, she had a haircut, she looked healthy way healthier than before, no dark circles under her eyes and definitely not emptiness nor pain in them "Oh dear God sit!" She said as desperate as always and approach him and took out a chair for him. "I'm sorry, I knew I should have told you, I haven't sent you a letter in a while because there was a lot going on at work, and in the end the school closed so I thought that maybe I could came back"
She was speaking fast, she went back to his pantry once she was sitting and took a couple of mugs to pour some tea, yes they had kept a small correspondence, but he never said enough about how much he missed her since he didn't want to influence in her decisions.
"So I came back, but DC... no DS Harford now, she was promoted, that's wonderful she may be your boss by the end of the year" she said and he bent his head now only enjoyin her ramble "Sorry, yes DS Harford said people coming from out of the country had to be fourteen days isolated in the Trader's, she wanted to tell everyone but I asked her to keep the secret because I will have to be isolated anyway, so naturally she told Miller, and she and Beth sent food for me, not to complain about Becca but she must fire his chef, and well yesterday I made it to fourteen so I came back here, and Ellie said you were leaving to work from home so I thought maybe I could stay here... could you say something please?" She said finally.
He stand of his chair and walk towards her, and before she could react he just kissed her, he would like to say it was a gentle romantic kiss, but it wasn't well maybe first, but it soon became an imploring, hungry and desperate kiss, and she gladly reciprocated his need, she throw her arms around his neck and hold on to him for dear life, she needed him more than air, the moment she step out of Broadchurch she wanted to came back, and even when she was happy in every place she went she still needed him.
The separate after what seem too little, cursing their human need for air. And she was smiling, a smile he haven't see before but that he loved the moment it appeared.
"You still haven't say anything" she said and he realized how wonderful happiness looked on her face.
"What did you make for dinner?" He asked simply and took her by the waist to kiss her again. But he changed his mind and just hold her, tight and firm the way she loved, the way she had missed so much, this time he didn't say anything, he didn't have to.
They will have time to talk, about how she learned French cook, and how he learned to drink fresh coffee every morning, and maybe in an hour after he overcame his embarrassment and take her to his bedroom he will comment on how beautiful the outline of Broadchurch looked tattooed on her side, maybe she would make a comment about his chest scar and how proud she was that he finally had it done.
And maybe in the morning when she will be locked inside his arms she would say that the house looks more like a home now... that the plants looked healthy and that the fridge was finally full... they will have time to talk about everything, the good, the bad, even the sad parts. They will have to stay at home a while after all, but now, at this very moment all they wanted to do hold on to the other, she had accidentally said she loved him in a card and a letter after his surgery, and she wanted to say it properly, but that was not necessary now because he was there, holding her, and at that very moment with the sun hiding everything was fine.
The end

Bigfoot Stalks the Free State
When you say the name Bigfoot, most people think of the wilderness in the Pacific Northwest, and of a cone-headed hairy creature loping along in a famous 16-mm film made in 1967 by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin in Bluff Creek, California. And they consider it to be a bit of a joke or a hoax. But the one thing people rarely think of when they think of Bigfoot is in the great state of Maryland. And that’s just plain wrong.
Hairy bipeds have been spotted in Maryland for many, many years. Too often newspaper have attributed the sightings to the Goat Man and the Snallygaster, two local legends that bear no resemblances to Sasquatch. Even such august journals as The Washington Post have made that mistake. An article in the Post dated November 30, 1971, describes a creature responsible for the death of a dog in Prince Georges County. Two men found the dog’s head on Fletcher Road and associated it with a story told by a third man, who saw a hairy creature six feet tall walking across a field nearby. The creature made a squealing sound. The story used the name of another beast of local legend, the Goat Man, but the description is Bigfoot all over.
He goes by many names-Bigfoot or Sasquatch or the Skunk Ape, or the regional favorite Appalachian Ape Man or the affectionate Ol’ Red Eyes. Whatever his name, this great hairy beast to spend a fair amount of time in the Free State. The woods, rivers, and wilderness areas in Harford, Frederick, Carroll, and Washington counties provide ample coverage for a shy creature to hide, and plenty of hunters and outdoorsmen bring back reports of him. Not surprisingly, news of sightings prompts a few dedication to investigate.
A collection of oral histories and research papers in the Maryland Folklore Archive shows some interesting Sasquatch stories. In May 1973, a Baltimore County resident, Tony Dorsey, heard his dog barking at the woods near his home. “I walked into the woods and something came charging at me and stopped,” Dorsey said. “There was no sound, just a thumping noise. . . . My flashlight picked up two glowing eyes the size of marbles. It must have been tall because the eyes were about seven feet off the ground.” Police made plaster casts of footprints that were thirteen long. Ted Roth of the Baltimore Zoo and John Lutz of the Odyssey Scientific Research Association unsuccessfully tried to track the beast with a dog.
Over the next four days, trooper Don Higgins handled four more sightings, including one incident in which a door was ripped from its hinges. Some time later the creature was spotted in the swamps around Bird River near Whitemarsh. Richard and Elva Stewart reportedly heard branches breaking as they cleared brush; they caught a whiff of gag-inducing swamp water in the area. They ran for the house, and Mrs. Stewart turned to see “something about eight feet tall with two big red eyes.” A few days later the Stewarts found mysterious markings nine feet off the ground on the side of their house. Also in Whitemarsh, someone found a patch of flattened grass that looked like a spot where the creature may have slept, especially since the nearby vegetables gardens had been uprooted.
But these are just a couple of random incidents. Washington, DC author Mark Opsasnick collected a huge directory of sightings dating back a century and published it as The Maryland Bigfoot Digest. And for more than forty years, an environmental scientist and local hero named Bob Chance has been investigating the sites of countless incidents. Bob is a retired science teacher, former mayor of Bel Air, and widely acknowledged as the region’s Bigfoot expert. Chance ignited a huge controversy when he presented a thirteen-inch, three-toed cast he had taken in 1978 in Harford County. This flew in the face of Bigfoot orthodoxy, which stated that the creature had five toes. But Chance was not the kind of person to throw away evidence just because it was inconvenient. “I wish my cast had five toes. I really do. But it doesn’t,” he told Weird Maryland. “Perhaps they evolved differently over here to cope with the flood plains. I just don’t know.”
Of course literally hundreds of incidents Chance has researched, a few stick in his mind . A chicken farmer at Winter’s Run near Bel Air in Harford County found his birds killed and laid in a row. A man watching television nearby on Mountain Road noticed condensation on his picture window and looked around to see a huge apelike creature staring at his television. “Our boy likes watching the soaps!” he said gleefully. “I found tracks leading from the house down to a major streambed.”
One of Chance’s most reliable sightings occurred at the Peach Bottom power plant, as reported back to the station house by a Matlak truck driver. According to Chance, he said, “Man, you guys raise big men around here,” and they said, “What you talking about?” He said, “I just saw this man run across my path from inside my truck. I just saw the top of his head, and it was the same height as my truck mirror.” To reach that height, the man would need to be at least seven feet tall, and nobody around town was. The Peach Bottom workers made the connection because they had been hearing loud, piglike squeals from the river for the previous four days. Noises like that are often associated with Bigfoot.
While Chance has never spotted the creature, he did come close to seeing when he investigated a sighting by a trailer parked near Deer Creek in the late 1970s. He showed us some photographs of the site.
“This is Beaky. She lives in a trailer. Now, a lot of people round there can’t afford neat and tidy weekly trash pickup. They chuck. And this thing would come by her trailer and forage. She didn’t see it clearly, but she heard it every night, picking what it liked from her trash pile. She knew which kind of taters it preferred. I went to see her, and as I drove my truck around out of the valley, I had my lights on, and I heard a tremendous thrashing in the valley below.
Chance shows his three-toed cast with what looks like affection. He obviously loves it, despite the controversy it’s caused with the West Coast Bigfoot camp. It’s not just because it commemorates his nearest miss with “our boy.” You get the impression that he likes it because it doesn’t look like a by-the-book Sasquatch foot. With really enthusiastic hunters, things are best when they aren’t too tidy and convenient and normal-even normal by Bigfoot hunter standards. The weirder, in fact, the better.

Description of Nescar Data
Sample:
The National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions-III was sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).The final sample size was 36,309. The target population of the NESARC-III was the civilian noninstitutionalized population, 18 years and older, residing in the contiguous United States (U.S.) and Alaska and Hawaii. The sample included persons living in households and select noninstitutionalized group quarters. Veterans of the United States Armed Forces were included in the sample. Persons on active duty with the military were excluded because they are not offered protection under Certificates of Confidentiality.
Procedure:
A total of 35 AUDADIS-5 interviews and completed saliva samples were collected as part of the field test. Additionally, five Reliability Study and five Validity Study interviews were conducted. All interviews were conducted in English and took place in the Washington, DC metropolitan area over a 2-week period.
Measures:
Lifetime major depression (i.e. those experienced in the past 12 months and prior to the past 12 months) was assessed using the NIAAA, Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated Disabilities Interview Schedule – DSM-IV (AUDADIS-IV) (Grant et al., 2003; Grant, Harford, Dawson, & Chou, 1995). The tobacco module of the AUDADIS-IV contains detailed questions on the frequency, quantity, and patterning of tobacco use as well as symptom criteria for DSM-IV nicotine dependence. Current smoking was evaluated through both smoking frequency (“About how often did you usually smoke in the past year?”) coded dichotomously to represent presence or absence of daily smoking, and quantity (“On the days that you smoked in the last year, about how many cigarettes did you usually smoke?”), a quantitative variable that ranged from 1 cigarette per day to 98 cigarettes per day

Broadchurch S3 - Georgina Campbell on New Rookie Role
#Broadchurch S3 - @G_ACampbell on New Rookie Role
BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell is among the new members of the Broadchurch series 3 cast and her character is also a newbie. Campbell plays rookie policewoman DC Katie Harford, a role she has never played before. So this is certainly a show of first for the actress.
But she does have a good start as her father was a serving police officer. So his life experiences proved helpful in her research.…

Unique Places to Get Married in Maryland - A Guide
Tumblr media
One of the hardest things to do when planning your special day is to spend hours scouring the internet looking for a unique, classy, and un-used location for your wedding. I've spent the past two days in searching for that oh so elusive perfect spot. I'm going to save you all the trouble I went through and compile all the spots I found through obscure Google searches and message boards and put these locations in one place. Welcome to your one stop shop for unique wedding locations all over Maryland. For your convince I've put them into genre such as "Castle Theme", "Relaxed Theme", etc. so if you're really in a knot, you don't have to spend your whole day looking when you could be finding the perfect pair of shoes to go with your dress. Here we go:
Castles:
Cloisters Castle: This private home that was commissioned and completed in a twenty seven year span screams with uniqueness. From the exterior built of Butler gold and gray stone, gables taken from a medieval house in France as well as medallions from a 16th century Venetian home, it's a work of architectural brilliance. Located in Luthersville, MD this venue is surrounded by sixty acres of trees and a lovely garden. Its insides are furnished with authentic medieval pieces and antique furniture. The fireplace was even commissioned to be built from an antique chest carved with Renaissance figures. Famously, it was the site of actor Will Smith's and Jada Pinkett's wedding in 1998 but that hasn't put a damper on the delightful and unforgettable atmosphere the house creates. Either the outside or the inside can be made available and there is only one event per day, allowing your day to be uninterrupted in its magic. The fee for rental allows for up to ten hours on the grounds and more time can negotiated through the contract via an extra hour's fee. The venue comfortably fits 175 guests and as a bonus the staff acts as your wedding planner directing set-up, timing, and valet parking.
Maryvale Castle : Functioning as a preparatory school, Maryvale Castle boasts huge grounds complete with wedding chapel if the bride doesn't envision herself walking down the castle's much talked of grand winding staircase. Built in 1917 in Greenspring Valley, MD, this treasure houses an oak-paneled Great Hall, a solarium, and a bridal suite. A stone manor house sweeping off in both directions takes its influences from Warwick Castle in England with its Gothic arched windows, port cochere, and imposing gray towers. A rental agreement includes four hours of time which includes the rehearsal time and full use of the property. However, because it is still a working school, hours on the weekdays are more restricted than weekends. With an indoor guest capacity of 125 people and an outdoor capacity of 200, this venue is worth the strict appointment-only tour.
Mansions:
Montpelier Mansion: A mansion straight out of a Jane Austin piece, this brick Georgian structure sits on seventy acres of land flanked by dogwood trees. Built between 1781 and 1785 this national historic landmark is open to the public for tours and festivities and once housed George Washington and his wife Martha. It is also home to an uncommonly found 18th century summer house which is beautifully preserved. The maximum capacity inside and outside is somewhat small, eighty-five guests total, but the unique floor plan with crown molding and period furniture lends itself to an opulent and old-fashioned charm all its own. For people set on a Sunday wedding this venue isn't for you as they don't allow rentals on Sundays, however, having free reign over this delicate place is well worth the date change. Located in Laurell this mansion radiates country elegance akin to many a bride's favorite novel, complete with circular stone driveway.
Glenveiw Mansion: Situated in Rockville, MD as part of a Rockville Civic Center Park the house is within the neoclassical tradition sporting pillars and an infinite number of beautiful black shuttered windows looking out over the lawn. The dining room is veiled in class and luxury as are its floor-to-ceiling dark paneled wooden walls and long oval windows. The conservatory shines with old-fashioned chandeliers whose light bounces off the Italian green marble floors. The rest of the house is touched with intricate details pertaining to the period in which it was first built housing a number of turn of the century, one- of- a- kind antiques sure to make any wedding memorable. Maximum capacity for this venue is 225 guests and amount charged allows for two hours of set-up and one hour of clean-up. Some strict drawbacks to possible brides are the impossibilities of seated dining, no cooking allowed on-site, and no red-dyed beverages of any kind.
Stronghold Mansion: On top of Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, MD the completely white mansion with pillars and latticed widow's peak lends itself to the country simplicity surrounding it. The straight lawns emphasize the well designed rock walls that glide around the property housing a variety of elegant but simple flora and fauna normally seen in a country garden. The shimmering, circular lake to the side of the house has large willow trees surrounding it and making a path towards the house itself where the architecture inside matches the outside in its refined gentile decor. A standard contract allows for 7 hours and includes set-up and clean-up times. . Additional hours can be negotiated. Maximum number of guests in attendance is 200 and the rental includes 40 by 57 inch tent over the patio and can be added on to encompass the lake area as well. Parking is limited as there are only 85 spots available and clearly marked by the owners , small shuttle buses are permitted.
Liriodendron Mansion: An 1898 ornate masterpiece encompassed by a landscape dripping with flowers, this antique summer home in Harford County leaves nothing unchecked in your imagination. Whether it's the Grecian old-world architecture built around intricate carvings, urns of flowers and stone pillars, or the wisteria vines that form a canopy over the porch for a otherworldly rehearsal dinner, the house is awash in magic all its own. The Palladian styled mansion reminds guests of a fairyland surrounded by woods and fountains with a variety of romantic stone sculptures throughout the grounds. Maximum capacity is 150 guests outside, 100 guests inside with seating and there are plenty of guests parking. The renter has a choice of 6.5 hrs on weekdays where as on weekends they must choose between both rental times and party times in a wide selection of choices. Wedding rehearsals are extra payment as well as table and chair rental fees, but this is no different from most other venues.
Tudor Place: This home to Martha Washington's late granddaughter, Martha Custic Peter, is bursting at the seams with rich history and warm, comfortable elegance. The house itself was built in 1805 by Dr. William Thorton who was also famous for building the first United States Capital and The Octagon building in Washington, DC. Inside the house there are over one hundred objects belonging to George and Martha Washington and it's all been documented in an archived collection of letters, diaries, books, and photographs. As far as guests, the mansion can hold up to 35 guests for a wedding ceremony and for parties over 35 guests they must pay extra. This venue is for ceremonies only and the reservation includes an hour block of time for that ceremony. They also have their own on sight photography for a fee.
Ceresville Mansion: With a variety of ceremony options to suit any bride as well as an in-house consultant to coordinate everything smoothly, this Mansion comes with superior services. Whether the perfect wedding uses their white Grecian Pergola surrounded by dogwoods in bloom, or the terrace climbing with Ivy and backlit with candles shimmering over the reflecting lily pool, it will be something to remember. The white and black sweeping Cape Cod style home was built in 1888 alongside rivers, hillsides, and a ten acre meadow also open for events. Much of the original architecture as well as the antique furniture and fireplace are still the same as 1888. This venue has everything covered in the rental fee from seven hours of event coordination to all the outside details a catering company would normally provide like linens and a dance floor. Every Thursday evening they also offer an unusual wedding discount for those on a budget and cut the price nearly in half for the same services as a Friday or Saturday wedding event. The venue can provide for up to 200 guests and also gives a complimentary list of Food and Beverage minimum pricing so it is free of confusion and out of the way.
Inns and Taverns:  Flower Wall Rental Los Angeles
Slades Inn and Tavern: A Victorian dream painted in lively light blues and dark blues, this Inn sets itself apart with two matching circular turrets, high brick chimneys and a white wrap-around porch that Anne of Green Gables would envy. The laid-back romantic space is in Fredrick, MD a few minutes away from Baltimore. The land is dappled with greenery and horses while the exciting night-life and history of the city are in close proximity. Enjoy an easy day as all the guests are accommodated with places to stay after the reception and perhaps even stay past the ceremony for a honeymoon to enjoy hot air ballooning or a carriage tour. From beginning to end of that extraordinary day, Slade's takes care of everything from "his and hers" massages, bridal party hair and makeup sessions, as well as brunches and teas. Indoor buffet seating is for 100 guests whereas larger parties can be accommodated with tents for seated dinners and dancing for up to 150. Once the party is over, guests too busy having fun can tumble up to their rooms leaving the bride and groom clear and free of worry.

Blood tears and sea breeze
Hi! I wrote this at 1:46 in the morning, in the middle of a night shift on a saturday and I have some things to say:
It took me so long to finish this story for many reasons, first of all I got a full time job at the hospital and we got a lot of covid and not covid patients so that was physically and emotionally draining. Secondly I just lost inspiration, my life became one responsibility over the other and I had no more time to me, so I went in autopilot mode and tried to do the best I could.
And suddenly the year ended and I realized how much I missed, and finally something wonderful and magical happened. The love of my life proposed to me and I felt alive again,
I change jobs, I'm now a Resident so now I'll have even less time than before but I have so much more hope for the future. So here it is the end, may we read each other again, but for now this the conclusion of this story, told in three parts because it became longer than I thought
************************
Warnings: ANGST, mental health issues, graphic depictions of violence, blood, cursing, mentions of sexual assault, mentions of sex, substance abuse.
Summary: The not so peaceful town of Broadchurch face dead again, while Alec Hardy continues his journey to redemption will this school teacher be the key to solve the mystery or just another victim of the ever watching evilness that seems to reside in the town.

Chapter 21: Shadows...
The light inside the narrow corridor was flickering, maybe some old installation, how appropriate, the youngest of the Langfors thought, and old dusty and cold place, to keep the one responsible for all her tragedy.
Looking at her in the tiny space, covering her body with a blanket, she looked pathetic and yet she dare to have that stupid concerned look on her eyes, like she was the one about to go to jail, and not the other way around. Because her plan had worked, it all have worked out so perfectly, and now all that was left for Ash to do was saying goodbye.
Y/N was silent waiting for her to say anything, but she couldn't speak, no yet, she needed to see her like that, to keep in her mind that memory, she needed to remind the pain, because those were the only moments she felt alive.
"Was it something I did?" Y/N had a cautious tone, almost afraid to upset her, it was almost offensive, I'm not going to explode, she tought, I'm not a lunatic, but the familiarity of her concern pleased her. "How can I fix it?" Y/N plead and Ashley finally and looked at her, the fluorescent ceiling lamps gave the white room a blue shine but she was almost sure, as always, that the blue light was coming from her.
"It was just a card mommy" She said and before she could add something about how all the other children at preschool made one, the quick and hard stinging pain of a crop aimed at her side made her five year old body fall to the ground.
"Just a card? A card to a whoreson peasant" He and his stupid need to call himself royalty. There was no ounce of royal blood in him since at least three generations prior but he couldn't left it rest. "No daughter of mine will go around making a fool of herself by fraternizing with bastards in need, you are not some common whore and you will not bring shame to this house" he said about to strike another hit with the crop but she run, and left her room to the backyard, they will catch her in no time of course but she just wanted some air.
She didn't understand half of the words his father said, and definitely none of his stupid hate. She felt so alone, so sad and so empty, but she like it out there, she could look at the blue sky and the blue ocean meeting in the horizon, the beach was kilometers from her but was visible from her house, and specially she could see her, the tiny girl always happy and dancing with her mother and her older sisters, she was desperate to talk to her since she spotted her on day from her window, she wanted to know what she did to make her mother hold her like that, to make her father kiss her and give her presents every other day...
Ashley closed her eyes and shut the pain away like she always did, she needed to remember that pain, but then a tiny soft touch on her shoulder make her look up, there she was covered in a beautiful blue light, with a white dress, concerned look on her eyes.
"Why are you crying?" She asked, Y/N had jumped the fence from her house the moment she saw Ashley running. "Is it because your dress is torn? I can fix that, so your mommy won't be mad. Come on." She gave her a hand and she was sure she would never let her go, and for the years to come she didn't, until now.
"He was mine, and you took him, that's what you did" She said finally "Like you always do"
**********
"Forensics are on their way" Katie said once she entered the room again, the blood on the bodies looked fresh enough to know this was recent, other elements of the force have been there the day before arresting Langford and his sister said the parents where upset when she left them...
"Hey, what is a Baronet?" Derek asked, already gloves in hads and protectors on his feet "Is not like a actual royalty is it?"
"No, is the lowest rank and I think you have to pay for it and have land or something, why?" She asked putting on her gloves as well.
"A very old framed portrait of a guy, it says it's a baronet" He said showing it to her. A rapid Google search later and they found out that in fact Mr Langford's grandmother Dame Mildred Langford was the last Baronetess in their line, subsequently his father, Mildred's child born in 1946 chose to not keep the title and the nobility ended there.
There were many signals of adoration towards the woman, but very little towards his father.
"Langford is almost forty, so he was born around 1980, let's asume his father was 20 when he had him...Do you happen to know royalty gossip in broadchurch from the 1960s?" Katie said looking at the necks from the victims, there was a lot of hate and anger in there.
"No but I know someone who might" Ramos took out his phone and start calling "it may take a while, you should check the other room while I'm here... Hola tita? Como estas? Oye me pasas a tito por favor? It's a work thing please" Katie gave him a puzzled look. "My grandmother remarried to a English guy shut up!" He said while she exited the room. "Hola tito, I have a question for you"
The rest of the house was like the exterior, it surely had seen better days, old fashioned furniture and mold growing in some places, the only place remotely modern was in Langford's sister room, all pink an glittery, with 90s pop stars posters on the walls, the place was torn however, someone had been seeking something frantically there, Katie looked in the open window she could see next door house, smaller, and vacant but somehow happier. And in the backyard there was a pile of apparent garbage with flames and smoke coming out of it, with smoke still coming out of it and she run downstairs.
By the time she arrived at the backyard Ramos was already putting down the fire and trying to pick something before it was too late.
It was mostly old photographs in albums in the style of the framed picture in the livingroom. What probably were letters were now completely burn and in the middle of all the ashes there was a wooden box that miraculously haven't succumb to the fire yet.
*********
"Broadchurch police open now" Brian was about to tear the door down but nobody open, and even with Hardy screaming and putting out his gun the place looked abandoned.
"Looks pretty empty" Not only the deli but also the street, it was possible they hadn't open the whole morning "Are you sure she said the deli?" He said looking at the back alley next to the Trader's. But Brian didn't answer, he was trying the phone once again trying to reach her, and Hardy thought of how much would he loved to hear that stupid ringtone of Miller's phone when suddenly the muffled notes of the song he now will love for ever, whatever the fuck it was, came from behind the deli.
They rushed to the door of the back of the restaurant where they probably downloaded supplies and before they could agree on their actions they pushed the door down, of course it was empty apart from some vegetables but the sound was not coming from there, it was coming from behind the door of the freezer, where a fine line of light was coming maybe indicating the last hope they had.
They opened the door and Hardy's heart must be stronger than he had thought because he almost died with horror at the sight of Miller unconscious, with the skin completely pale, and the hair and her lashes covered in frost, with only a tiny mist coming out her mouth indicating she was still alive.
A millisecond after their initial shock they took her out and before she fall asleep again she was conscious enough to see both of the men she loved and to look at Alec and whisper a silent "Thank you"

"Maybe it would be easier if you told me how I stole him" you said, with the same tone you use to have for misbehaving children, specially since now you could not see an adult in front of you, only a very scared children, and very sorrow eyes. "I'm pretty sure I was already dating him when I introduce him to you and Charles, we were kind of apart at the time because of the Deli..."
"Oh you really are as stupid as you look don't you" she said irritated, but the superiority in her voice made you think she had bite, and she confirmed it when she continued "Do you happen to know how hard it is to win money with a Deli? Because I certainly don't, that restaurant and your idea of working there would have ruined me if it wasn't because I found a way to save myself"
She then proceeded to explain to you how she, Charles and that monster of a doctor that had treated you before worked together luring young rich men into buying rohypnol to drug innocent girls, only that the "innocent girl" in question happened to be a very alert and awake Ashley, so when they arrived at some hotel or secluded place Charles would extorsion them in order to "keep quiet" Easy money at expenses of creeps, and no victims, until she meet Jonathan.
"I texted Charles to let that one go, and we talked all night, I knew then and there that he loved me and that he was the one... he promised to call the next morning, but you have to appear, with your prudish routine, you stole the only man that ever loved me for me" she said and part of you believed her, but part of you was sure she was lying somehow.
"Then when we meet again he tried to denied it, he tried to pretend he didn't remember, he even proposed to you but at the end he couldn't keep it in for any longer and he came back to me" she said with an expression of triumph in her face like she was looking at something that was not there and for the first time since she arrived you felt angry at her, and disgusted by her smile.

"So Langford's father was a crazy old fuck, who hated his father's for loosing the title in order to be one with his people, apparently they have an old factory here in broadchurch, and all his workers love the man, when he died his child try by any means to regain the title and he lost the factory, the land and the family money, he only had this house... a tough environment to grow" Derek said once the box was safe out of the fire. "Also you are invited to my aunt Nicole's birthday party" he said a little embarrassed.
"Is your grandmother cooking? I'm in" Katie said casually while she tried to open the box and Derek relaxed immediately.
It opened with a click and inside it was a cellphone, with trembling gloved fingers she opened and realized it was Ashley's phone, there was the text she had seen so many days before, the one Jonathan sent before he died, she had an unopened voicemail so she checked it, it was a regular costumer asking why the deli was closed that day, but before she turned down again she went trough the saved messages it was only one.
"I know you won't listen, but I had to try" Jonathan Norbury's voice said he sounded tired and angry "I have been trying to make it easier for you so you won't get hurt but you left me no choice, I'm talking to Charles tonight, I'll give him his store back and I'm leaving Broadchurch in the morning, I'll go to London to set the venue..." He sighed as if he was about to do something painful "I love her Ash, I'm sorry but I do, I let my fear to disappoint my father drive me back to the alcohol and made you part of my mistakes, I should have never slept with you, I should have never let your brother near her... I'll marry her and I'll take her away from here... from you and your brother, and you can resume your life with Charles and your business, I won't involve the police as long as you left us alone, I promise, I know you, you are not as bad as you think you are, and you are worthy of love... it's only that I can not love you, I hate to said this to you but that night doesn't mean to me what it means to you, the girl of that night became a constant reminder of the life I needed to leave behind, of the man I don't want to be. I could had been you or any other woman that night and the result would have been the same, me going to AA and then to church and falling for her, because is only her, it's always been her and now I have to make it right. I'm sorry"
"Do you remember what they told us about what happened with the psychiatrist? The thing she did with her wrist?" Derek said while Katie's mind was racing with this new information cursing herself for not confiscating the phone the moment she first entered the station, she wasn't a suspect then, her conscience said but it was not enough
"About the bracelet?" She said rising her look surprised she could still process logical thoughts
"Did her mother had another one? You know like a pair or something?" He said completely serious.
"I don't know, maybe, why?" She asked looking at him.
"Because I think we have to arrest the Langford's for a whole new crime" he said giving her a picture of Charles next to a completely damaged car with an old couple dead inside, the woman was wearing a necklace that she immediately recognized as a pair to the bracelet she bagged as evidence so long ago, and even with the wounds the resemblance to Y/N was undeniable, those were her parents.

Miller woke up in a hospital bed with an IV on her arm and a lot of blankets and space heaters around her, Brian was there looking shocked at her and she had her heart full with joy for having him, but her sense of duty was bigger so before anything else she just asked "Where is Alec?"
"I'm trying really hard not to take this personally" Brian said almost angry "But is really hard to take you seriously when you look like a bloody burrito" he said pointing at the foil blanket over her "Shitface is out there"
"I'm sorry" She said immediately "I'm so glad you saved me, and I really love you now more than ever, but someone else's life is at risk and I need to talk to DI Hardy. We can discuss how much you hate him when we get home tonight ok?" She said and he was about to respond but the fact that she call his place home was enough to make him stand up and get Hardy inside.
"Is she awake?" He said desperately when he get inside and Brian exited the room not wanting to hurt his pride anymore, he trusted her enough and was enough in love to let her be. "How are you?" Alec said not sure if he could get closer.
"Don't mind me" She simply said like being nearly frozen to death was a regular Tuesday for her. "You have to get to the station quickly" she said pulling down most of the blankets and sitting on the bed. "Y/N is in danger, you were right she is innocent" she said and since Hardy didn't react immediately she add "And someone is about to kill her"
"How do you know?" He said and Miller couldn't help to notice the fear in his voice, he was already convinced she was innocent but he needed for her to tell him to make it real.
"The friend, it was her from the start and even before that... That woman is a monster. There is a sound recorder sewn inside my jacket, she confessed before tying me up and leaving me inside her stupid fridge" She said and show her two burning marks on her side "She used a teaser to knock me out, she knows her brother will break sooner or later so she choose to confess and tied all her lose ends"
"And she confessed to killing Jonathan and what else?" He asked and she was sure what he wanted to ask.
*****
"You should have told me" you said trying to buy time from her to think what to do next "If you knew he loved you so much you should have told me and I would have gladly go away... I have always wanted the best for you"
"Oh don't come at me with that ridiculous attitude, you knew we loved each other and what did you do?? You had to ruin everything, don't pretend now you don't remember" she said and suddenly everything became clear on your head
You were not mad that night because she left you alone in the dancefloor... but because you saw her kissing him, she was all over him and that stupid purple shirt, you were so mad at her, and you saw so much regret on his eyes but it didn't matter and you just wanted to get out of there, and then Charles came out of nowhere and you went out with him because you felt weird and weak and so confused...and then that happened, and by the time you wake up Jonathan was holding you so tightly and so lovingly that you chose to forget... as you had chosen to forget all those other times, you were sure now that that stupid voice in those videos was not you... and you pray for the forensics department to realize it was some cheap editing of your voice over your body... but you were certain you had actually slept with Charles just not as willingly as it seemed
You felt disgusted by yourself, and by those who claimed for so many years to be your friends, and you hate her so much in the way you can only hate someone you loved for so long and you had to ask because your heart was hurting so much.
"Why?"
She didn't answer, you where about to elaborate in the question because she had already told you why she killed him but she did understand you, she simply was looking for the answer
"Because you had everything I ever wanted"

Alec was driving as fast as he could, with Miller's story resonating on his head. Ashley Langford loved Y/N's life and hated her for a long time, when she was going away to Paris she thought she will finally take her place on her family.
But she soon realized that in Paris or in Broadchurch her parents would never stoploving her and she send Charles to mess their car, she saw them die, all because they decline her offer to live at their house when she left.
She was convinced Jonathan was in love with her since they met when he arrived at Broadchurch, but he rejected her when Y/N introduced them formally, maybe as Miller thought, he didn't even remember her. And then when they got engaged she found a way to get him drunk.
Their affair was simply disgusting, she will drug Y/N unconcious so she would sneak out with Norbury, assuring him Charles was simply watching her, but she needed to hurt her, to humiliate her, so she let Charlie take advantage of her over and over again until Jonathan found out at the club at the same time Y/N found out.
In the end Norbury had done the right thing and ended the affair. Hardy listen to the audio Harford sent him, and everything was becoming clear, now he only hope he will be on time.
****
"Do what you must then" You said "If this will make up for whatever it is I did to you... then just do it already" you said now ready to accept the end, and desperate to stop feeling this much hurt.
You thought one last time of DI Hardy, you may be innocent from the murder, but Ashley had made a good work destroying everything you care about and you felt so unworthy of him, even if she didn't killed you you could never look at him so it was better this way.
"No yet" she said and she reach inside her pocket, only now you saw she was holding a gun on her right hand "You knew your dear Alec is out of the case for getting too cozy with you?" Maybe when this is over I will visit him, I'm sure a man like him will be glad to have a women in his life after what happened to his friend Miller" She said and you fear the worst specially sin DS Miller had told you she thought Ashley may be involved in all of this "And after his little whore blow her brains out" she said. "Do you think Paul will say something for you? As far as I know suicidal people get no favors from church" every word she said was meticulously aimed to hurt, and she said them so casually that it almost felt spontaneous "Oh don't get anxious, your end is coming, but first you have to wear this"
You knew what it was before she finished her sentence, a delicate necklace just like the bracelet you longed for so many years, your mother had the necklace so you wouldn't feel alienated by having to wear it, you had given her the bracelet back so long ago and when she died it was never found... and you understand without her telling you that somehow she was responsible for them dying too. And the disgust for her and yourself turn to anger, to a primal need to erase her existence and she was there smiling and something broke inside your mind.
****
Alec was walking fast to the cells, ready to kill Ashley Langford but by the time he got to Y/N's cell he froze still as he saw Y/N extended her hand to take what seemed to be a necklace while Langford pointed her gun at her.
What happened next was so quickly that he almost didn't had time take his own revolver out. Y/N trembling hand became steady to take the necklace and she took Ashley by surprised by pulling her arm inside the cell and taking the pistol from her hand.
"Oh come on do it" Ashley said surprising Hardy and Y/N "Prove me and the world that you are not perfect, that you are as rotten and corrupted as me, come on kill me!" She said and Alec finally speak.
"She is not" he said loud enough for them to hear but he was not screaming. "The only corrupted and repellent creature here is you" he said approaching slowly trying to get Y/N's attention but she was still firmly holding bot the gun and Ashley "You are not like her" he said again.
"I told you detective that I never wanted to find out who did this because I was afraid of what I would become" she said and he was afraid for a second by the anger in her voice. "This ... woman" She said as if she wasn't sure she could call Ashley that "Took everything from me, my dignity, my reputation, my friends... even my family" she said with so much suffering in her voice that he only could flinch his fist inside his coat. Where the fuck was the other guard? "She took the man I loved... the man I thought that also loved me"
"She didn't" he said and took out his phone, he held it in front of him as he approached her and play the audio.
"That's a lie" Ashley start screaming, now completely unbalanced, "He loved me, he loved me!!!!" At the moment the words "it's only her" came out of the phone Y/N hand relaxed and Hardy use the opportunity to take the gun out of her hand and pull Langford aside, as the bloody security guard finally arrived, without hesitation he took the keys from his hand and opened the cell while the man carried a very disturbed Ashley away, and before Y/N could fall in the darkness and space out again he hold her against his chest.
"It's you, it's only you"
