Sloppy little v-pet guide
Tumblr media
It feels like the virtual pet community on tumblr is super small and mostly favors Tamagotchi, I feel way unqualified to do this, but here’s a quick, super basic guide to the modern Digimon virtual pets that I know of ( I say modern but I use the term loosely because they’re all very much nostalgia bait )
If you really don’t know anything about virtual pets at all... they’re little LCD key chain games, pet simulators, you feed them and train/play with them to fill up their heart meters, clean up their poop, put them to bed, treat injuries and sickness, watch them grow into new forms, and try to keep them from dying, Digimon sets itself apart from the rest by connecting to to other Digimon V-pets to do battles and more.
One thing to note is that Most, if not all V-pets can connect to each other even if they’re not the same version. They have a very basic battle system in place if they’re different versions, but it’s slightly more involved if they’re the same version. ( There’s even a fan made device that can connect them to battle online and play in an online digimon game )
Last thing i’ll say is that if you are thinking of getting a Japanese v-pet, all the ones I mention here  are in english, with the exception of the digimon’s name, but that can be looked up by looking over one of the evolution trees on Humulosmon’s website, Digitama Hatchery.
Perhaps I should move this to it’s own FAQ section on my blog but who even opens people’s blogs anymore? With that out of the way, let’s get this started under a read more!
Tumblr media
Digital Monster Ver. 20th ( AKA the DM 20th )
This is the most accessible and affordable Digimon V-pet on the market right now. So affordable that even though Bandai has issued slightly improved versions in Japan for twice the price, most Japanese fans prefer to import these from overseas to save money. Some people have sighted them at Target for $5 but you’ll typically find them for $20.
They look just like the original Digimon virtual pet, but they are actually a special 20th anniversary edition that has some new features... new features that, for some reason, Bandai are not advertising at all, and I don’t know why.
New features not in the original virtual pet include:
Choose from all 5 of the original digimon eggs on one device
Battle the AI opponents in a Colosseum mode
Raise two digimon at the same time
Your two Digimon can tag-team battle, and some can even fuse into a new digimon ( this is called Jogress, short for “joint progress” )
Put your digimon down for a nap for up to three hours hours in case you’re busy
Keep a log of all the different Digimon you’ve raised, giving you a goal to fill it out
New forms that were not present in the original virtual pets
New unlockable eggs with special digimon inside
You can actually load your save data, so if you need to take a break from your v-pet or you have a low battery, you can just pop out the battery without fear of losing your digimon or your log book progress.
This is the v-pet i’d recommend to everyone who’s interest in Digimon V-pets. It does have it’s downsides though. This v-pet is programmed to poop a lot more frequently than other v-pets for some reason, which becomes a real problem if you’re busy or you over sleep ( pro-tip, set your digimon’s clock ahead a bit so it wakes up when you do. All Digimon wake up at 7AM ), there are also some exclusive eggs locked to certain colors of the device. You’ll have to do a little research on that. Digitama Hatchery has all the info you need on that subject.  It’s also fairly basic compared to other virtual pets, but not by a lot. And lastly, you cannot pause this pet. ( Pro tip, actually you can, but you have to press the reset button to do it )
As mentioned earlier, there is a new version of this device called the Digital Monster Ver. Revival, exclusive to Japan. It lessens the poop frequency, and has a proper pause funtion instead of naps. But it’s twice the price, so I’d say you just put down $20 on the western release.
Tumblr media
Digimon Pendulum Ver. 20th ( AKA the Pen 20th )
These are a lot like the Digital Monster Ver. 20th. But instead of being a special reprint of the original virtual pet, they’re a special reprint of the Digimon Pendulum, which didn’t come out in the west as far as I know. The main difference here is that instead of button mashing to battle and train, you shake the device repeatedly.  You have to get to know the rhythm and number of shakes your digimon requires to get the best results.
The key difference between this v-pet and the one above:
They poop a lot less frequently than the DM20th, even when there’s two digimon
The sound is very different
You still get multiple eggs on each device, but with far more exclusives.
You can pause them by putting them to sleep when it’s not their natural bed time
Device makes a subtle sound when the Digimon poops so you know when to clean it
They wake up at 8AM instead of 7AM
A lot more of the digimon can Jogress, in fact most of them can
The eggs are somewhat themed ( beast, aquatic, robots, evil, good, ect. )
These Digimon are very desireable, but they’re also unfortunately very overpriced compared to the DM 20th, as they only came out in Japan. I don’t even want to mention how much I paid to get two of them...  They come in four colors, Silver black, Silver Blue were wave 1, and Beelzemon, and Dukemon themed devices were wave 2... The wave 1 and wave 2 devices share a lot of digimon, but they do have some exclusives.  On top of that, I hear these are prone to losing their save data, so it’s recommended to reset it every time you change the batteries, and handle with care.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Digimon Pendulum Z ( AKA the Pen Z )
This is a lot like the Digimon Pen 20th, but it’s not a special anniversary reprint. It is actually a continuation of the original Pendulums.  So sadly, you only get one egg in these devices. But, the Digimon you can obtain are mostly new Digimon that have not featured in a virtual pet before, and some even make their debut on these devices.  They’re also a tad bit more nuanced. Here’s the key differences between the Pen Z and the Pen 20ths.
One Egg per device like the original 90′s v-pets, which means no tag-team battles
You can only raise one Digimon at a time, but you can “Back up” your Digimon, essentially preserving them in suspended animation where they won’t age or get sick, so you can raise another Digimon. You can have up to three Digimon on your device this way.
Evolution trees are slightly bigger
Hearts fill up and deplete in halves now, and older Digimon can have more hearts than older v-pets
The device tells you how many times you need to shake it for battles, removing the guess work and making it easier
New close ups on your digimon’s face when they perform strong hits
Digimon went back to waking up at 7AM
RPG elements added to the Colosseum, your Digimon now has a level and can earn EXP to get stronger, and to effect what they evolve into. You get a congratulations screen when you beat this mode.
In Colosseum mode you fight three digimon in a row, with the third one being a stronger “boss” digimon
Single use items that can completely fill digimon’s hearts, change their performance in battle, double EXP, and more
Your digimon can have a random event trigger, usually it finds an item or an enemy worth lots of EXP when this happens.
These things are expensive, but not as expensive as the Pen 20th, and are some of the newest virtual pets you can get. In fact, wave 2 of the Pen Z has not even been released yet. You can only get them by pre-ordering through Premium Bandai, they ship out in April, so act while supplies last. You can only pre-order them in packs of three unfortunately. No individuals.
Tumblr media
Digital Monster X Ver 1-3 ( AKA DMX, DMX2, and DMX3 )
Here’s the last modern Digimon V-pet I have any kind of experience with. The Digital Monster X. These ones are the most nuanced yet in my opinon, and they have my favorite mechanics.  Also, they come with lore I guess?  If you slip your hands in between the cardboard packaging, you’ll find a tiny comic... of course I can’t read it. But it goes something along the lines of... “ King Drasil, the king of the Digital World, created some kind of virus to kill off Digimon and solve an overpopulation issue, but the Digimon mutated the “X-Antibody” that makes them resist the virus and are rebelling against King Drasil”, it’s wild and weird and I guess there’s more lore that I haven’t dug up yet and a TV special I’ve not seen yet... anyway, onto the pet..
This one no longer has the shaking mechanic and goes back to button presses. But it adds in a new mechanic of it’s own called the X Antibody Indicator...  Actually... this is technically a continuation of the Pendulum X, which introduced the X antibody, but I don’t know much about that v-pet, so I won’t go into it.  And once again, we only choose from one egg this time.
They came out in three waves, each having two devices in each wave, and those devices have some exclusive digimon, but a lot of shared Digimon, so you’ll have to make your own call on weather or not you want more than one v-pet per wave.
This thing is a lot like the Pendulum Z, so I will use that as a basis, here is what makes this different from the Pendulum Z aside from the shaking mechanic going away
XAI rolls, a new mechanic that involves rolling dice. You do this once daily to determine the random events for the day, you do it before the colosseum to determine how difficult it will be that day, and you do it before each battle to effect how easy it is to land a strong attack.
Colosseum mode battles are now called “areas” and have pixelated Landscapes to make it feel more like a Quest mode rather than a series of battles
Colosseum mode will eventually start throwing more than three enemies at you. Your digimon’s hunger will deplete in the Colosseum, if you make it far enough, there are rest areas in which you can feed your Digimon.
Even larger evolution trees
A lot of evolution trees are locked until you advance far enough into the Colosseum
Most of the Digimon are “X-Antibody” counterparts of existing Digimon ( this won’t mean much on the little pixelated screen, but if you look up their key artwork, you’ll find that they look very different with much more intricate designs than their original counterparts. Think “Alola Pokemon” )
These things are great, probably my favorite mechanically speaking, however, I don’t much care for the X-antibody Digimon, or the Rosters of each V-pet.  And while I did follow an evolution guide on Digitama Hatchery, I often didn’t get what I was aiming for, so maybe I didn’t know what I was doing, idk, it was my first Digimon V-pet outside of the DM20th, so I was still learning.
These ones are also fairly expensive, I probably spent more than I needed to just buying one of these, when I paid the price most people sell two of them for. Only other major warning I hear is that the wave 1 devices have very bad screens that display things way too dark. So keep that in mind...  BUT, before you buy, these things are strongly rumored to be releasing in the west. Meaning they’ll likely be sold for a cheaper, more reasonable price.. the rumor was that they’d be announced early this year, so i’ll give it until March.
And there you go, a little  guide to modern Digimon V-pets. Hope it helps someone, anyone, make a decision if they’re interested at all in these little things.
These are only the modern V-pets, there’s loads of older pets that likely go for obscene prices, you’ll have to do your own research on those. I really don’t know much about the upcoming Vital Bracelet, and honestly I don’t know if i’m going to get it if it’s tied to fitness. Seems like a poorly timed release during the pandemic if you ask me. And the “Digivice” that looks closer to the devices you see in the anime is not so much a virtual pet as it is an LCD mission mode game.  I have ZERO experience with those but I have ordered one recently, i’ll come back and talk about it when it gets here.
And remember, check out Humulosmon’s website, Digitama Hatchery for tons of resources. At the very least, it’s a good way to see what your Digimon is meant to look like instead of trying to interpret the pixel art yourself.

Underrated Bad Guy Blurbs - Digimon
Tumblr media
Yukio Oikawa, Digimon Adventures 02 -  Despite being the mastermind behind the plot and the superior villainous force behind the Digimon Emperor, Arukenimon & Mummymon, and BlackWargreymon, he was only present for 8 episodes out of 50 in the entire series (9 if you count his voiceover in episode 23) but his presence, character and story was one of the highlights of the series. His design, his voice, his backstory and role in the plot are superbly done, but the level of depth he's got in his characterization is something else. As a character he is meant to symbolize any person who was a Digimon fan as a child and is still that Digimon loving child at heart, the child who wanted to BE a Digimon tamer and have adventures with Digimon in the Digital World like the Digidestined heroes seen on TV grown into an adult who was emotionally gutted by having to grow up and lose their childhood innocence, and now in their stress, grief and depression yearns to return to that innocent time, so much so that they let it consume them. They made this character before the original Digimon anime was even that many years old, but in constructing him this way they've made him age spectacularly well, as he becomes more relevant to older viewers than he was for younger viewers. I know of at least one fanfiction rewrite of the series that made Oikawa into a grown up former member of the original Digidestined spoken of by Gennai, and working in that backstory for Oikawa would work just as well as what he was given in the actual 02 show in giving context and complexity to his present day character. His ending is also wonderful, as he proves that his love for the Digital World itself means more to him than his personal exploitation of it, giving up his body so that his life energy merges with the Digital World's data itself, sustaining it for all time. In an ironic, poignant way, he's become his own dream.
Tumblr media
Mitsuo Yamaki, Digimon Tamers - For the back half of the series, Yamaki became one of the good guys. But in the front half, he was unquestionably a bad guy. Yeah, some would argue that he was just doing his job for the government and keeping potential threats to the Earth away from the public eye and needing to kill them before the powers they posses are turned against humankind and results in several deaths. I’d accept that if the man didn’t make clear his blatant xenophobia towards Digimon and his revulsion towards humans who hang with Digimon and treat them like pets or friends, didn’t treat his own workers and associates coldly unless they’re doing their jobs good enough for him, didn’t create a program for the purpose of massacring every Digimon on Earth, and didn’t attack a literal child and put him in a stranglehold when he was enraged over not getting his way! This man was a complete villain at first, complicated as his reasons for being so might have been. That said, his intentions are absolutely sincere. He really does want to make a positive difference in the world and bases his sense of pride on how well he can service his fellow man, which is what separates him from a disgusting, cowardly, self-obsessed monster like Akihiro Kurata. And he’s actually bold, insightful, and totally badass, as can be expected for a character voiced in the dub by Steve Blum. After losing his HQ and his position, he comes around to seeing things the tamers’ way and begins to understand that Digimon, though artificially made, are valid lifeforms who are just as real and worth existing as people are. It’s actually a pretty interesting redemption arc, and a big part of what pushes it is the odd bond of camaraderie he develops with Janyu Wong, the father of the very kid he’d assaulted before. The dub even has Yamaki’s final line being semi self reflective, with him likening the D-Reaper’s actions to his own earlier crimes against Digimon he committed under the belief that he was doing the right thing. Yamaki’s just one of that series’ coolest characters and deserves more love.
Tumblr media
Mercurymon, Digimon Frontier - I enjoy this dude’s design, I enjoy the way he talks in the dub (complete with the usually always great Daran Norris doing his voice), and I enjoy how he managed to stand out among the villains in that series. He in his beast form of Sakkakumon set up what I consider to be the high point of Frontier (the arc with the kids lost within Sakkakumon and having to confront all their flaws, fears, and emotional baggage) and he even had every intention of using Seraphimon’s stolen power for himself in order to betray Cherubimon and rule the Digital World. Not much more I can say other than he’s awesome!

Recommending Appmon
The TV show, Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, made its way outside of Japan to France and Hong Kong last year. Hopefully this year, the show will make its way to more countries. Appmon, which is short for App[li] Monsters, are programs with artificial intelligence that reside between the real world and a parallel digital world within smartphone/tablet apps. A small group of children team up with Appmon and go on a quest to find and defeat a malevolent artificial intelligence named Leviathan. Leviathan produces a virus that infects Appmon, turning them evil and causing them to manipulate technology in order to create problems in the real world... With a compelling character-driven story, exciting action sequences, good humour, cute and heartwarming moments and likeable characters, Appmon is a television show for all ages. You don’t need any prior Digimon knowledge to enjoy it.

Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters is a Japanese media franchise that launched late last year. Appmon, the digital lifeforms that are key to the franchise, are sentient programs that reside within smartphone apps. After watching clips of the Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters animé for a while, I finally started watching it on the 24th of August this year. Even though I'm 20 episodes in so far, I highly recommend watching it due to its humour and strong characterisations and storytelling. Appmon Ignitemon is the counterpart of the Digimon of the same name. After seeing Digimon Hackmon get an Appmon counterpart, I decided to design this Appmon counterpart because Digimon Ignitemon is special to me. Two Appmon AppLinking = Appmon plus Appmon 2アプモンアプリンク = アプモンプラスアプモン Ignitemon (イグニートモン) Title (タイトル): Bombslinger (ボムスリンガー) Grade (グレード): Standard (並/スタンダード) Type (属性): System (システム) App (アプリ): Bomb (爆弾) Appfusion(s) (アプ合体): True Appfusion (真アプ合体): Crackmon (クラックモン) (Ignitemon plus Hackmon (イグニートモンプラスハックモン)), Alternate AppFusion (代わりのアプ合体): BakuGatchmon (バクガッチモン) (Ignitemon plus Gatchmon (イグニートモンプラスガッチモン)) Ignitemon is an Appmon with the ability to remotely detonate real world and Net Ocean bombs that have only been connected to them in advance. 20 Resources That'll Make You Better at digimon world dawn
Digitize PSP Cheats And Methods ~ Cheathunter
Following a success of Disney's 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Japanese domestic anime market confronted severe pressure from international filmmakers. Nelson Chitty can be a Venezuelan expat residing in Argentina. He's a writer and translator passionate about background and foreign cultures. His ideal weekend is definitely spent between leisurely games of Civilization VI and looking for the next seinen anime to marathon. Not only was it a switch of pace when it comes to the Digimon themselves, however the human heroes also get a lot more tale than most seasons. There are some actual heart-tugging occasions and hints throughout of impending tale beats that produce rewatching a lot of fun.
Honestly, there is little reason to play this title today. Regularity with the parameters established initially by the series redeems Digimon Globe to a certain extent, emboldened in the eye of fans who appreciate simulation type games; however, that is easily one of the worst titles to try and grab today. Online. A players shuffled deck is placed face down right here. Cards drawn into the player's hand are extracted from the Online pile. I love the Assassin's creed series along with both Dead Space games. In modern times, butterflies are extremely common in Japanese anime and manga. Most often, butterflies represent a character's fleeting thoughts or dreams.

Digimon Globe for the PS1 is a great game if you enjoy Tamagotchi style gameplay. You need to raise and train them carefully in fact it is better to follow a information so that you can train the correct stats to make sure your Digimon digivolves into the particular monster you want. Once you have them digivolved you possess a certain amount of gametime before they will die and then you have to retrain the hatched Digimon. The main storyline revolves around you exploring to find a specific Digimon and recruit it back again to the village.
The English dub cast is fantastic and they are the reason I blind bought this anime without seeing it on legal streaming in Japanese. In the movie, Digimon Adventure which was a prelude to the Digimon series, no one knew the way the gateway between the Digital World and real life was activated. All they saw was just a moment when Digimon could travel from one to the other. Pokémon fans will immediately recognise the gameplay method of Best Fiends and can enjoy what it has to offer. When you begin out, you'll have the option between three different starter creatures (audio familiar?), and from there, you will http://www.bbc.co.uk/search?q=digimon start your journey to be the best.
Digimon Globe: Data Squad exists predominately as a tie-in for the recent Digimon: Data Squad anime series, so it shouldn't be too astonishing that the overall game spends short amount of time on character introductions and cuts straight to the flimsy plot. There's a great evil in the digital globe that's causing Digimon to do something all crazy, threatening to break through to the real world, and it's really up to the spiky-haired, androgynous Data Squad to investigate. Making things personal, younger sister of one of the associates of the info Squad, along with a bunch of additional young girls, has gone missing, plus they believe there's a connection. Characters will occasionally pop-up to shout some awkward dialogue, but once all the parts are set, the rest of the game is mostly simply a long, tiresome dungeon crawl.
It's hard to just go through the game at start state and realize the scope of what it was doing, the way that it had been forcing the industry to rethink several long-held assumptions about grouping and leveling. Certainly it wasn't noticeable to the devs at Blizzard, who (if memory serves) implemented the solo-friendly leveling framework because they wished to allow players in to the raiding endgame quicker and more efficiently. It had been only later that they realized just how much people recommended a more accessible framework and what that actually meant for the game's development.
I've only performed the first Digimon Globe, so I have no idea how it prices alongside the others. But I could say it's lots of fun. You teach up your Digimon, travel the island discovering new Digimon to provide to the town which grows the more people join. You must provide copyright attribution in the edit summary accompanying your translation by providing an interlanguage link to the source of your translation. A model attribution edit summary Content material in this edit is normally translated from the existing Russian Wikipedia article at :ru:Digimon Adventure; see its history for attribution.
On the Android side, Google's fiercest competition originates from - who else? - Samsung. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus had been released at the start of the year, and they utilize the same Snapdragon human brain as both of the PIxel 2s. Beyond that, their expansive Infinity Displays are almost beyond reproach and conveniently outshine the panels Google used this year. Both likewise have excellent cameras, even though I prefer what Google has achieved with the Pixels, the S8s have hook edge in low-light photography. Honestly, the decision boils down to software program: The S8s still run a version of Android 7.0 Nougat painted over with Samsung's custom interface. It's swimming in Samsung apps too, including the lackluster Bixby virtual assistant. Google's cleaner approach, coupled with the guarantee of software updates for three years, can make the Pixels more attractive to some.
I by no means claim this is a blacks versus whites issue. Multiculturalism could be applauded by blacks, since they get black background month, etc etc etc. Nonetheless it was created, promulgated, trained, and defended by whites who are ashamed of their own competition; ashamed by their very own country; and who would like everything America has stood for to become turned upside down-deconstructed. If you feel "popular 'old college' samurai anime," you imagine Rurouni Kenshin. The anime adaptation was manufactured in 1996, and was directed by Furuhashi Kazuhiro. Originally a manga (Japanese comic) series, Rurouni Kenshin follows the tale of Himura Kenshin, a wandering samurai through the Meiji period who utilized to be a skilled assassin working for the Bakumatsu government.
Digimon Globe Championship on the Nintendo DS is sort of like an upgraded type of the original Digimon games that were virtual-pets. You feed and care for your Digimon, and help them digivolve into more powerful forms. Championship is also very, very, VERY dull. There is very little gameplay in this game; your Digimon pals do all your work for you. All you have to to do is be sure that they are taken care of, which isn't exciting whatsoever. Championship looks wonderful for a game on the DS, and it does provide good nostalgia for individuals who grew up with the original Digimon virtual pet playthings. Notwithstanding that, Championship is certainly virtually Digimon for babies.
Stingmon is one of the more recognizable Digimon to anyone who was raised viewing the anime. Stingmon 1st showed up in the anime in Digimon Adventure 2 where he served as an antagonist for the 1st part of the time of year. Although Stingmon seems to be a Digimon with a cool head that's ready to battle at any time, his rookie type Wormmon is certainly a wimp and may never state what's on its mind. One of the major factors that produce Stingmon so cool is the drastic transformation in personality after digivolving. Stingmon's character is a key factor down the road when Stingmon becomes an excellent man and pairs up with his former rival Veemon creating an ideal balance between the two. Stingmon may not become the coolest Digimon on appearance alone, but he is certainly one of the coolest in the Digimon Universe all together.
What does inspire though, may be the video game that accompanies the cartoon. You play it in real life pretty much exactly as you see it performed by the individuals on the TV. Minus the huge battling monsters. The game includes magnetic transforming Bakugan monsters that start out as spheres, but when they encounter the magnetic Gate cards they unfold to reveal the creature inside. If you want to discover ways to play Bakugan, you can try the official website. There are all types of trick shots and in depth strategies you can devise when playing this video game. It's so popular Toys R Us provides been hosting tournaments around the US.
The anime is based on a Capcom video game group of the same name, and takes place during the digimon world 4 agumon digivolutions Sengoku, or the Warring States Period, in Japan. Two young warlords from rivaling regions form an alliance to bring down Oda Nobunaga, the Devil King. A Chinese manhua was written and drawn by Yuen Wong Yu (余 遠鍠 Yu Yuen-wong), who based its storyline on the television series. This adaptation addresses Digimon Experience in five volumes, Digimon Adventure 02 in two, Digimon Tamers in four, and Digimon Frontier in three. The original stories are seriously abridged, though on rare occasions events play out differently compared to the anime.
In Japan, nine Digimon anime movies have been released. Seven of these are related to their anime series. Of the nine all but two have been released worldwide. Ultimate Power! Activate Burst Mode and X-Evolution are the two that have not really been released internationally. Minato Sahashi is an intelligent son, but because of his inability to deal with pressure he's unemployed and failed university exams twice. One day he meets a girl named Musubi, who actually falls from the sky. Minato learns that she is a Sekirei who chose him as her Ashikabi: a human which allows a Sekirei to bring out her full powers and participate in life-threatening battles.

Thoughts on Devas Arc
Okay, kind of weird to have this up shortly after talking about Battle of Adventurers (assuming I don’t take weeks to finish this one much how like it too me forever to finish talking about Pokémon Generations), but I want to get talking about this arc out of the way because I really want to watch more Tamers. And I can’t really move onto watching the next arc without writing my thoughts on the previous arc, or I’ll get episodes and opinions muddled up and it really disorients me. If my Adventure 02 thoughts ever felt like they were messy and disorganized, it was because I binge-watched the series in a matter of days unlike Adventure.
Note: I drew the line for the Devas Arc at the end of episode 24. I know some people argue that episode 23 is the end of the arc and 24 is the beginning of the next, but for reference: I am including episode 24 as part of the Devas Arc. It feels more like a transition episode much like episode 13 was for the Tamers Introduction Arc. And the way I see it, the Digital World Arc doesn’t start until they’re actually in the Digital World.
So Digimon Tamers finished up establishing itself and its world earlier. How is it now that it’s able to run free with all of these ideas it set up before?
So remember how I said there weren’t a ton of battles in the Tamers Introduction Arc and how it was definitely more story and character driven? Well man, does the Devas Arc kick the action into gear, and they manage to do it without really sacrificing some of the good storytelling elements that the Tamers Introduction Arc had started.
Right off the bat, there’s a much bigger battle with an Ultimate level Digimon in the first episode (Mihiramon) and it pushes Hypnos to utilize “Shaggai”--to send Digimon back to the Digital World, including threatening our beloved Digimon partners. When the Champion forms prove to be ineffective against stopping Mihiramon, Takato manages to get Growlmon to Matrix Digivolve to WarGrowlmon. And I gotta say, not only was this Digivolution really well-executed, it’s forcing me to go on a topic I really have done my damnedest to avoid when talking about Digimon, but I gotta address it. For the sake of organization, I’ll put it towards the end of the post. For now, let’s talk about all of the good and fun the second Tamers arc did.
The battles in this arc really take a step up, and it shows. They’re really good, full of action, and most of all: a lot of them are filled with emotion. With the exception of a couple of battles, I never felt like the fights were there just to be the obstacle of the episode. It honestly felt like each of these fights encouraged really strong character growth, had a story to tell, and built the world further. It also fixed my issue in the last arc of some insert songs being way too short-lived, since the battles are now far more fleshed out. But towards the end, there were so many new insert songs I didn’t even really get to soak them in (if anyone wants to point out names and links to me, feel free). There was even this one insert song at the end of episode 23, with this new animation that led me to believe it was a new ending. But nope! We get My Tomorrow right after it, and then episode 24 has an entirely new ending. It’s a one-time thing, and it’s really weird to say the least.
By far my favorite battle of this arc and of Tamers so far is the battle with Indramon, among the most cocky and powerful of the Devas. Not only did his fight take up two episodes and prove just how strong of an opponent the tamers were up against, it also helped give a surprising amount of development for Impmon. I was told Impmon would get a ton of character development, and my initial reaction was “Wait, this guy? He’s clearly just an annoyance for the group.” But no, they actually do a really good job making him an antithesis to partners like Guilmon, Renamon and Terriermon, yet he doesn’t come off as a true villain at this point. You do have to feel some sympathy for him during his futile battle against Indramon. Indramon being so ridiculously tough to beat just made his defeat all the more rewarding and enjoyable to watch. In the last episode with him, I kept worrying that the writers would actually run out of runtime for the episode and it would either feel rushed at some points or jarringly cut to another episode. But no, his whole fight was really well done and well-paced. Plus I’m not gonna lie, I was totally a sucker for the Blue Card that Takato’s friends made for him for another Matrix Digivolution. TEAMWORK!
The Vajramon fight that triggered Kyubimon’s Matrix Digivolution to Taomon was also really good too. I like this theme they have going with how things like a Digimon’s environment and partnering with humans influences their evolution and how the oh so “holy” Devas look down on it. I mean, I liked Kyubimon being a nine-tailed fox, but if they’re going to go with this kind of theme than I do prefer them being consistent with it. On the note of Matrix Digivolutions, I do feel like Taomon’s Matrix Digivolution animation is jarring for being traditionally animated while WarGrowlmon and Rapidmon get CG-animated evolutions. I do get why, because I do think with the way Taomon’s was done, it wouldn’t have looked as nice in CG and Taomon is sort of a more traditionally inspired Digimon while WarGrowlmon and Rapidmon have a more mechanical influence.
I kinda couldn’t take Rapidmon’s Matrix Digivolution animation 100% seriously. I’m sorry, all of those percussions and sound effects were so ridiculous and out of place that I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s one of those instances where I feel the original sound team made some bad choices, something I think the Digimon dubs really screwed up on. I mean, Rapidmon is at least a more interesting form than Gargomon for me. The battle was at least neat, but they kind of made it misleading that Rapidmon defeated both Pajiramon and Vajramon in one blow, so that confused me a bit.
I will say, Digimon Tamers does a good job of making you question who the real antagonists are. Impmon seemed like a total douche from the start, but then they really begin to develop him in this arc, and a tiny bit towards the end of the Tamers Introduction arc. Hypnos seems like an obvious evil, but at the same time they have recruited the “Wild Bunch”--the people who created the original Digimon program and all seem like genuinely good people. Then you have the “Mystery Man” leader of Hypnos (I’m only referring to him as this because as far as I remember, they don’t state a name for him at this point), who seems like a totally evil guy, but he goes on about protecting the people and even the tamers, but has no regard for Digimon life. Even the Devas, who seem like the certain obvious evil of this arc, have to be questioned because at the end of the day--they’re fighting for survival. They even do a really neat comparison of the Deva and Asura, and how “good” and “evil” is based on perspective. Considering I’m a sucker for this kind of theme too, I really like how thought-provoking Tamers is trying to be, especially for a show aimed at a young audience.
On the other hand, one opinion that has not changed for me on Tamers is just how so, so stupid the pedestrians of this show are. If anything, it only gets worse! I get it, this is a minor thing and I shouldn’t be this bothered by it, but it just boggles my mind how far they stretch these levels! You would think that maybe, just maybe, between a giant flying Tiger rampaging over a tower, a cobra slithering through the subways, and a sheep capable of archery and a bull wielding fucking swords, that maybe, JUST MAYBE there would be an executive order of some kind to evacuate Tokyo and cancel school? But no! Nope! Only until a giant boar starts rampaging through the streets do the police think “Oh, we should probably try evacuating citizens!” After SIX different monster attacks (not counting Sinduramon and Kumbhiramon since the former caused a mysterious power outage while the latter was more of a nuisance than anything) does the Tokyo police force consider that maybe, JUST MAYBE Tokyo isn’t quite as safe as they think it is! Even then, after Vikaralamon is defeated, things go mostly back to normal with just construction workers taking care of city damage. Even on the night of this whole disaster, we see pedestrians walking around, shopping at some places without a care in the world and school continues as usual the next day. We do get some evacuation scenes and moments of Takato’s parents trying to search for their son, but even then they’re not panicking anywhere near as much as they probably should be.
I get that I’m probably making way more big of a deal of this than it really is, but it just boggles my mind how much bystander stupidity there is. Yes, it’s a TV show for kids and there are some huge levels of suspension of disbelief to be had, but again, you can only stretch that line so far before I have to question: “What the hell is wrong with these people?”
Still, as dumb as some of these bits are, there’s just too much good hanging around here. It isn’t until here that we get to really know more about Takato’s friends other than that Kazu and Kenta picked on him a little bit for seeming crazy. But I do really enjoy seeing them get to meet Guilmon and Calumon, play with them and get more involved with the events going on. I don’t think they’re bad characters--they’re fun side characters even. After my experience with Adventure 02, you would think I would be mad about Jeri’s existence and Takato having a crush on her too, but no, I’m totally cool with it. It’s downplayed and Takato’s crush is an innocent enough case of puppy love over the dumb, hamfisted comedy side plot that is the Davis-Kari-T.K. love triangle.
Not to mention, I really have to commend how Jeri’s interest in Digimon was handled. She’s shy about liking it, but when all of her cards fall out in front of Kazu and Kenta, they don’t make fun of her or even question her. Hell, when they actually see her cards later, they admire her collection. As someone who’s been that girl, this was a healthy and natural way of handling this kind of case. The writers could have easily had Kazu and Kenta make fun of Jeri and do the “Haha, Digimon is for boys! You don’t know what you’re doing!” joke. But no, they never make fun of her for not understanding the card game. They never even make fun of her for liking Digimon. I mean, if I really had to pick on her for anything, it might be her over-admiration for Leomon, but it never got to the point of being outright obnoxious and it was funny at times.
Also, Leomon’s gonna die, right? I mean, he literally almost died the moment he became Jeri’s partner. Just thought I’d point that out.
Speaking of characters, I do really like just how much love was put into making them very human. We really see how much they care for family and friends. Henry really cares about his younger sister (though I wish we could know a little about his other siblings) and we see how close he is to his father. We see how tender Rika’s grandmother is and how Rika respects her, and even despite her distant relationship with her mother, Rika dresses up for her before going to the Digital World to make her happy. That really made me appreciate Rika’s growing sense of humanity throughout the series. Even Takato goes through a sincere and tough moment of trying to help his parents understand how he needs to go to the Digital World to save Calumon and explaining how much Guilmon means to him. He even admits to being a “bad son”, and it’s a really heartfelt scene. And how accepting and encouraging his father is was rather heartwarming to me, while it was easy to feel sympathetic for his worrying mother.
Hell, I have to appreciate how they even made side characters important in this. Some of the kids couldn’t even bring themselves to tell their parents they were leaving for the Digital World. But when Takato, Jeri, Kazu and Kenta all confess to their teacher about leaving, they actually make it a pretty touching and good scene even when their teacher hasn’t been a crucial character.
I have really enjoyed how Tamers has been sort of an inverse of what Digimon Adventure did, dumb pedestrian moments aside. It takes place in the real world first to establish the gravity of how dangerous it can be having Digimon in the real world, and the build-up to traveling to the Digital World is much more fleshed out and important than say, when the DigiDested in Adventure were sort of just rushed back into the Digital World a second time. It’s made this series really fresh, new and enjoyable. And with all of the build-up, I’m really looking forward to how Tamers will handle the Digital World Arc, especially with how great the connections between the tamers and Digimon has been so far.
This connection really stuck out to me towards the end, where the fight against  Vikaralamon felt really helpless and Shaggai was just about to completely eliminate the Digimon from the real world. Takato’s struggle of feeling his bond from Guilmon fade whenever he Digivolves further is really unique for Digimon when Digivolution has typically been treated as just the segway to victory more than anything. Here, it’s far more special. The scene where Takato begins to yell and holler at WarGrowlmon in encouragement, while seeming kind of odd, was really powerful and felt like a sort of reconnection between the two. And it worked towards winning the battle against Vikaralamon. It was honestly a really effective scene, and between that and the first Matix Digivolution Takato had with WarGrowlmon, I’ve really enjoyed how their bonds have worked. They truly feel connected, down to Takato feeling some of WarGrowlmon’s own pain.
And between things like the tamers’ and Digimon’s bonds, Matrix Digivolution and some of the battles in this arc, this is where I have to segway towards the topic I mentioned at the beginning of this. I’m putting my Flame Shield up here. As much as I’ve avoided talking about it when discussing Digimon, now more than ever do I need to talk about this:
My God, did Digimon do it so much better than Pokémon, and 15+ years earlier no less.
To clarify, I’m talking about the Pokémon anime’s decision to include the “Ash-Greninja” plot device. Yes, it has been several months. Yes, I am still pissed about it because it’s so, so bad and actually managed to leak into the Pokémon games for no good reason other than shameless self-promotion. But enough about why I’m mad at Pokémon for this one thing. What I want to talk about is why and how Digimon did the whole concept better. I know I should be talking about strictly Digimon here, but this struck such a nerve in me that I cannot go on without talking about it. If you’re strictly a Digimon fan that knows nothing about what has been going on in Pokémon for a while, I’m sorry if this is confusing.
First, there’s the idea of the bond. I cannot stress enough how badly the bond is executed in Pokéani. Greninja is a Pokémon that Ash merely starts his Kalos journey in. It’s not his first journey, not his second journey, but his 8th quest in his entire life (I am including Orange Islands and Battle Frontier here). By this point, he has caught and trained with over forty different companions. Sure, we can argue that all of them are special to him in some form, but why was Greninja, this one Pokémon, so different from the others? Why did he have such a “strong” bond with this one that he was magically able to synchronize with it and give it some powered-up form? No matter how you may feel about Pokémon’s mascot, Pikachu would have made the most sense for this kind of role because Pikachu has been traveling with Ash since he started his journey. The actual bond is there. They have experienced far more than what this new creature on Ash’s team ever has.
For Digimon, it makes perfect sense for Takato and Guilmon. While Digimon (at least in the anime) has humans with only one Digimon partner, it avoids the entire trap that Pokéani set itself up for--forcing this “bond” nonsense. But this idea works especially in Takato’s case because Guilmon is a Digimon that Takato created. Takato is the first person Guilmon ever meets. Guilmon learned from Takato, and Takato learned from Guilmon. They take care of each other and have learned entirely new experiences because of their meeting. There is a true, genuine, unique bond here that could not be replicated by any other individual in Takato and Guilmon’s lives respectively.
Back to Pokéni, sure, Greninja may be important to Ash, but he has been with him an extremely short time compared to so many of his other companions. It feels extremely forced and contrived in Pokéani--it’s there just to promote one of their new monsters rather than attempting any actual good storytelling. Not to mention, the “Ash-Greninja” plot device is there to simply give Ash his victories 99% of the time rather than earning them. While Takato continues to question his bond with Guilmon as he evolves further, Ash only feels a sense of failure once when he loses one gym battle with Greninja. One loss out of the many victories that have been handed to him by just having Ash-Greninja curbstomp anything that got in the way. It makes Ash’s own questioning of his own “bond” with Greninja extremely forced, and it only happens here. It’s not a continuous struggle to become stronger and trust his partner, it’s a plot device to help him win.
Takato’s struggle to trust and bond with Guilmon as he evolves is what helps him build his strength with Guilmon, not outright give it to him like with Ash and Greninja.
This is why when I see Takato cheer Guilmon on and feel his pain throughout battle, I feel for them. I feel the bond between those two characters. I feel like they are truly connected and growing through that connection. When I see Ash “synchronized” with Greninja and somehow feeling his pain, the fights are empty to me. Ash nor Greninja aren’t getting any stronger. They’ve just been bestowed a certain level of power, and they just steamroll to victory with it. It’s why I cringe when I see the whole “synchronization” between them. I’m not cringing because I see Ash feel pain with Greninja, I cringe because all I can think is “God, this is so stupid and forced.” But when I see Growlmon Matrix Digivolve and see Takato cheering him on and, in a spiritual sense, fighting alongside him, I feel fired up and I want to see them win.
And it works the best with Takato and Guilmon because they are partners made for each other, there from the start and experience life together and develop this bond. Greninja was cherry-picked for Ash because Greninja was popular at the time, despite him having so many other partners--even others besides Pikachu--that had a stronger bond with him than this singular trend of a Pokémon. I would be so much less harsh on this if it wasn’t a faked “bond” excuse. If they had just said Ash’s Greninja was born with some super special ability just like how the “Battle Bond” ability in-game works under certain circumstances, I would still call it a plot device, but just accept it as a single dumb writing choice. But when they reason it with a bond that feels so ingenuine, so under-developed and so nonexistent, I feel so much more upset with it and it makes me love what Tamers did for Takato and Guilmon all the more. tl;dr: Matrix Digivolution > Ash-Greninja
I get that this whole part of the post could have been its own separate post in and of itself, and I really didn’t want to go into comparing Pokémon and Digimon too much. But this arc started character development that stuck out so strongly to me that I felt it was important to bring up. Maybe it comes off as a long-winded rant, but you know what? I still give Digimon so much more credit for nailing something that could have easily gone wrong and come off as so cheesy to the point of being stupid, but instead actually made the story and characters all the more investing and impactful.
But to wrap this whole thing up and in terms of the Devas Arc, I really enjoyed it. It upped the action just as I was hoping for while still maintaining great storytelling and doing such a good job of keeping me emotionally invested as well as developing characters, new and old. It’s really set my hopes high for the rest of the series and I really want to get to that Digital World Arc. I’m really excited to keep watching this show, and I hope it continues to surprise me.

Thoughts on Digital Monster X-Evolution
Okay, for real this time I’m writing my thoughts on this. So there was this random independent Digimon movie made sometime in 2005, a couple years after Digimon Frontier ended and before Digimon Savers was a thing--Digital Monster X-Evolution. It was a single TV movie that only aired in Japan and it was completely rendered in CG animation. There’s no “DigiDestined” or anything like what we’re used to--it’s straight up all about Digimon. Or rather, it’s focused on this idea of new Digimon forms known as “Digimon X-Antibodies”.
So it’s completely Digimon-focused, is entirely in CG animation, and is its own self-contained world that features little that we’re familiar with. Is it any good? Well, let me review under the break.
Also, is it pronounced X-Antibody like the letter “X” or is it pronounced like “cross”? Does anyone have a sure answer to that? I feel like it was supposed to be the letter as I watched the movie, but Japan’s weird about the use of it sometimes.
This is certainly something really different from the standard Digimon format, and considering its timeframe, it really came out of nowhere. But different definitely doesn't mean bad by any means. It's a very curious and interesting little film, and I can't help but wish it was expanded upon a bit. There's a couple of reasons for that. The first reason is that because it's an all new world with new elements and characters, there's a lot to throw in during its 80 minute runtime. Because of this, the pacing is really fast and you really need to make sure you pay attention or you'll miss some sort of detail that helps you understand the story and world here. My second reason is that there are apparently a lot of Digimon X-Antibody designs that were made, but were never used for this film. There's only a handful of X-Antibody Digimon, and even excluding them there still aren't a ton of Digimon.
Now, there is a reason for the last statement and that has to do with the plot. The plot itself, when you break it down, isn't too complex. Digimon are in danger of being completely eliminated by Yggdrasil, who basically rules over the Digital World. It became overwhelmed with the evolution and populace of the Digital World, so it goes out to eliminate them with the apocalyptic event known as the "Digital Hazard". Yggdrasil begins "Project Ark", where only a few Digimon will be handpicked to survive while the rest will be eliminated. He even sends out the Royal Knights--Omegamon, Magnamon and Gallantmon in this movie--to kill off the Digimon who are not among the chosen to survive. However, the X-Antibody emerges and certain Digimon are infected with it. They don't really explain what the X-Antibody does--like if it makes Digimon immortal or something--but my assumption is that it basically allows them to regenerate because they can be killed, but they're shown to come back despite this. Basically, this movie is a sort of fight for survival apocalypse story.
It's not a bad story and it honestly has a very important theme to it--the importance and beauty of life. It actually gets rather dark sometimes, down to having a Tokomon nearly killed but saved by the sacrifice of a MetalGarurumon's X-Antibody. Still, right down to the baby killing about 20 minutes into the film, yeesh... There's a lot of grim moments in this. Gallantmon gets impaled by Omegamon in a duel between each other, a couple Digimon are straight-up eaten alive, and several Digimon are literally sliced to bits and pieces. There's no real gore or anything, but it's pretty gruesome to show to kids. Also, Leomon dies within three minutes of the film. Horray for continuing the Leomon death trend!
The story isn't even just physically gruesome, it's emotionally so as well. The main character, Dorumon, is being chased to his death straight from the get-go and is shunned by many Digimon like an outcast. Seriously, five minutes into this movie and I was already tearing up! How do you even do that!? Even the scene where Tokomon is nearly killed, just hearing Dorumon announce "This child is dead!" is just heartwrenching. Every death, even the usual Leomon death, has a strong impact because it's the frightening sight of the loss of life. This is a really cruel world and it shows. Dorumon deals with a lot of emotional pain between seeing others fight for survival, going through an identity crisis, and being pushed away and judged by others. He even has to come to accept that he has to sacrifice himself to save the Digital World from Yggdrasil's plan. For such a short and separate film, I really felt a lot of emotions in this 80 minute ride.
The Royal Knights are also pretty interesting in this. There are only three of them, but they're all more compelling than their first debut of Dynasmon and Crusadermon in Digimon Frontier. Gallantmon is the first to question the morality of Yggdrasil's decisions, while Omegamon tries to be the one to obey without question (as a knight would). He is able to be this for a while, but after Gallantmon decides he wants to do what's morally correct in his mind, Omegamon kills him and then begins to question his action. Thankfully, my boy Gallantmon doesn't go out like a light, and actually died on purpose to obtain the X-Antibody himself and become Gallantmon X-Antibody, and he looks pretty freaking awesome down to have an actual light saber, which he brings hell with. There's also Magnamon, but unfortunately he isn't quite as interesting. He's able to follow the whole loyalty thing better than Omegamon, but other than talking down to Omegamon for disobeying Yggdrasil and tattletale on him for it, he doesn't really do anything. I would have liked to see him actually fight Omegamon and Alphamon (when he makes his debut) when they try to confront Yggdrasil, working with the whole theme of a knight willing to die for his king, but it just doesn't happen.
To gush just a little about Gallantmon (I'll be brief I swear), I really like how he's the one to question Yggdrasil's actions first. Going by my bias, I would've been heartbroken to see him blindly obey and kill Digimon left and right the way Omegamon was willing to. Going off logic however, it makes sense for him to rebel first. He is a Royal Knight, so he wants to protect the Digital World and do what's right, but he is a Virus-type, so it makes sense that he would question Yggdrasil's law first and rebel if he felt it was wrong. And he's really insightful and brave in this, willing to die on purpose to obtain the X-Antibody and fight back to take advantage of his new power. It makes him very... well, gallant. He's just awesome as ever. And I didn't talk about this with Digimon Tamers, but man his Japanese voice is just perfect.
This is the first instance of Yggdrasil in Digimon too, and it's basically like the D-Reaper in Tamers but I would say it's a little less interesting. It doesn't really talk much or have much reason to its actions other than, well... it's sort of a program like the D-Reaper. It doesn't think morally, it thinks logically no matter how cruel it may be. If this is as ordinary as it gets, I can understand why some people may not like it. I hear it appears in other Digimon mediums, so I'll just have to see how it's handled.
Just to talk more about Dorumon, again, he's a very relatable protagonist with his struggle to feel like he belongs in a world that seems to hate him. This especially hits hard when he Digivolves up to DoruGreymon, looking very similar to Yggdrasil's creation of DexDoruGreymon. This makes the remaining Digimon to believe he's a traitor and makes Dorumon question his identity and then desperately fight to seek the answer. This leads him to be able to achieve his final evolution to Alphamon and reveal him as one of the elusive Royal Knights thought to be a myth, which gave me a lot of respect for the Digimon itself and really admire Dorumon's resolve in the end. I definitely didn’t expect his Mega form to be Alphamon of all things though.
There's also a handful of side characters, and they're all okay. Most of them are nothing too special, but it's easy to understand they're all simply in a fight for survival. The Tokomon is pretty cute (though I kind of wish he had at least Digivolved into a Patamon X-Antibody, which apparently doesn't exist), and there were a few okay characters like the WarGreymon X-Antibody and the MetalGarurumon X-Antibody. I was kind of hoping to see them Jogress Digivolve to Omegamon X-Antibody to fight the Royal Knights' Omegamon, but nothing like that happens. Omegamon does eventually take on an X-Antibody form when rebelling against Yggdrasil, and of course he gets to deal the finishing blow because, well, he's Omegamon.
So that's about as much as I can stress talking about the story. I've probably put off talking about the animation, probably what's considered the main selling point of this movie. I'll admit that it's definitely aged and I think even for 2005, it's not exactly the highest quality animation. There are things that look a little odd, like how the Digimon are animated sometimes and how some things look funny--like this one scene where a tree falls over and you can see it has clearly already cracked in a sort of unnatural fashion. But at the same time, it is sort of a marvel to look at. Some of the water effects do look nice, and I have to admit that the Royal Knights look awesome in this film. There were never really any major issues like clipping or anything, so it was still pretty good. I guess if I had to describe it, it has the sort of quality of the many Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX animated cutscenes do, but closer to the fluidity of the Final Fantasy X ones. Now just imagine that as a whole movie. It's still pretty good. You just have to keep in mind its age, but even for what's just a TV movie, it's rather high quality for that. Honestly, I wish we could see it get remastered. I think that would help do it some favors in all of the time that has passed since.
I will admit, some of the Digimon designs don't quite translate as well into CG as they did in traditional animation. Andromon is honestly really cringy to look at and I'd almost argue he's straight-up body horror. Granted, I guess he was body horror to begin with, but it just doesn't look so well in this. It's also weird to see Wizardmon's mouth moving constantly. I know we've seen his mouth move a few times in traditional animation and he is meant to have a scarecrow-like appearance, but it's more creepy in this and I guess I’m just used to it being hidden. On the other hand though, some Digimon translate well like Silphymon, DoruGreymon, and again, the Royal Knights look fantastic in this.
Another issue however is the camerawork--it doesn't quite follow the action well sometimes and it can be hard to follow, not helped by the fast pacing of the movie itself. There's also a few moments, especially in the beginning, where it's so dark that it's hard to tell what's going on. I get they obviously wanted dark scenes to set up the mood, but there's not much of a point when you can't tell what's going on. It's almost like some of the bad lighting of Nintendo 64 games--you know it's supposed to be dark and you want to see what's going on, but it's just too poor. In the beginning in particular, what they should have done was having lightning flash the whole scene occasionally so we could get a clear idea of what was going on in a stylistic way.
I do have to say though, this movie has an amazing soundtrack that's probably seriously underrated. It's a wonderful symphonic orchestra--you could just close your eyes and see the music being performed on a stage. Some of the strings are really gorgeous, it has lots of nice leitmotifs throughout it, and it fits the moments right. Granted, the movie is generally pretty serious, so you won't be hearing many light-hearted songs. But it really nails the intensity, drama and emotions well. Much like the Runaway Locomon movie, I highly recommend sitting down and listening to this one, whether you've seen the movie or not. While I'm kind of sad this film never even got a chance to be dubbed and exposed to American audiences, at the same time... they probably would have completely replaced this soundtrack and butchered the film with some really bad synthesized music. So I guess in that case, it's just great to see this film in its pure, true form.
In conclusion, I'd say this film is more of a curiosity, almost like Hurricane Landing!!/Transcendent Evolution!!, except this movie is actually good. It may have a few problems and the animation is a little dated, but it is interesting. For a single film, I'm surprised it was as compelling as it was considering it was a one-off thing for a TV showing. I only wish we could have seen more--and had a few technical improvements as I went on about. Still, it's definitely worth a watch and it is a good action flick. Give it a chance if you love Digimon.
