i appreciate hyunsoo confronting heeseong in the middle of ep. 15 saying that heeseong doesn't scare him. and then thought "he can't be scared if he can't recognise that inside himself" because alexithymia.

and then he's told jiwon got murdered. and suddenly nothing else matters except the bastard claiming he killed his wife suffering as much as possible.

i like how the show has him be vulnerable. not that his worst fear is realised. but that they show he's not always sure what's real. that he's scared, even if he doesn't really understand how to qualify those sensations that come with it.

he says he sees his dad, a man who's been dead for half of hyunsoo's life. he hears jiwon talking and isn't sure if she's real. heeseong said he killed her. the police said she was dead. he isn't sure if he's actually hearing her or if the voice he hears is an auditory hallucination.

he says "i see a dead person" and looks so lost. that to me is when it sunk in that he feels as lost as he looked that whole scene. the psychiatrist who treated him didn't care to actually understand him. the one person he trusted, the one person who wasn't manipulating him for years, isn't sure what to think anymore. and in that moment, he wasn't sure either.

I love characters who don't realise they care for others or the extent to which they've fallen for them (romantically, platonically, whatever) but their actions give them away regardless.

It's such a specific brand of denial and/or ignorance. And generally the surrounding characters fall for it too at first. But in the end, those on the receiving end of being cared for know that they're loved and they want the other person to know that too.

Characters who don't notice as their love spills from their grasp.

A light breeze stirred - much needed respite on a hot summer's day. The sky darkened, but instead of stars, it stood in contrast against street lights and colorful building signs. Seyoon missed the stars, sometimes, but only when he allowed himself to remember how beautiful they looked from the top of his roof...back on those days when they felt so close that he could pretend to capture them in his grasp.

It was as if some higher power had heard him, because a familiar looking can rolled in their direction. Seyoon gently nudged the universe's offering with the tip of his shoe and discovered it to be empty. How disappointing.

His gaze lifted from the ground, following the path the can took up the hill, where a pair of drunkards were arguing underneath a flickering lamp head. One raised his voice, and the other answered with a fist. Seyoon wasn't surprised, he knew very well how quickly a harmless banter could escalate with a little push from the devil's brew.

"Let's go," he told Hyunsoo, because this was not the type of chaos he was drawn to. "Hyunsoo?" Seyoon's gamer buddy remained rather still. Did the sight of violence upset him?

After moving out, Hyunsoo is quick to consider his apartment as something of a sanctuary — his own personal vacation a ways away from his place of work. It is a hideout in the shallow sense of the word; serving more as a quiet place away for those he considered friends, as well. Although he had a great preference for spending time alone, he soon recognized the reductiveness of such a mindset. There would be no feasible way for him to completely isolate from the world. Not if his friends had anything to say about it. Not if it would be a detriment to his health.

And so, in the recent days, he builds up more courage ( as much as one should muster in front of those who knows already ) to reach out and ask to "hang out". The operative term being more akin to simply lounging around his living room and ordering take out. Although, he is certain his current guest would not mind in the least.

Hyunsoo's introduction of Eunwoo to his apartment is awkward at best; overly formal for a friend, at worst. ( Notably, the rookie actor's social skills still needed a bit more honing. ) He opens the door to the rather large high rise location with his teeth grit and his lips curled in a weary smile. Prior to inviting him over, he made sure to clean, but there are still two cans of strawberry Milkis that tumble to the floor when his cat decides to finally make herself known.

"Cocoa Bean!" he chides in a soft voice, scurrying toward the living room to gather the cans and place them in his recycling bin. "Ah, sorry about that... Um, dinner? Do you want to order something for dinner?" Hyunsoo clears his throat and pats the couch. Since when was it so difficult to keep himself together enough to entertain a guest? "Oh! I finally got that new FIFA game. Um, I also have a bunch of new ones... some survival horror ones I found on Steam. Or we can watch a movie. Whatever you like!"
