Events and things mentioned in Powerpuff Girls comic Mini Series: Second Chances
The mini series is broken into 6 chapters and a short epilogue, as are the notes. In total the notes are just shy of 4,000 words
Chapter One
• The comic starts with the City of Townsville being set on fire
• The girls are called and fly downtown to find Mojo is the cause and Buttercup starts complaining
• The then start trying to recall what they fought already and when, this includes a giant metal robot, giant metal spider, and a giant metal shotgun
• This time he's using a giant metal exoskeleton, and apparently this isn't the first time he's used one
• Exoskeleton looks like the one from the Alien movie
• Mojo tries to convince the girls how cool his and better this plan is only to get upset when they show disinterest
• “Oh, what do you know anyway? It's not like I took an industrial design course! I Mojo Jojo have no need for a college diploma on account of my superior intelligence- ...and superior firepower”
• He then fires a barrage of missiles at the girls, who get them all together and following them before leading them back to hit Mojo
• Buttercup taunts him after, saying they haven't fought a Giant Metal Hedgehog yet [Fist Bump cover by Natewantstobattle played right after I read that]
• Mojo is taken back to jail and on the way he is talking out loud trying to figure out how his genius plans are always stopped by children
• The officer lists off all of Mojo's belongings which are:

• The girls fight the monster, not understanding it's heavy accent
• It slaps Bubbles away into a puddle of algae to which both she and Buttercup find disgusting
• The girls use their new clubs to slice and hit the monster, and Buttercup shouts that she now loves this game
• The monster turned out to be a man, Jock Scott, at its core, who thanks the girls for freeing him
• Blossom knows the man saying, “Not Jock Scott, famous golfer who hit a 225 on a Par 72 and mysteriously disappeared at the Masters open in 1963?” to which he confirms he is.
• Blossom says she likes to watch golf
• Mojo is shown watching the live new of the girls' fight

• The Professor has the girls stay back while he gets a sleeping Jojo out out of the chamber

• despite her protesting, they take in Jojo, throwing him a “Welcome Home” party
• Jojo starts running around the kitchen, swinging from the banner and falling on the cake they had for him, which starts a food fight between him and the girls
• during that he manages to slip passed them and into the lab where he is running around breaking more things, and knocking down a beaker of Chemical X
• The Professor catches it before it can fall on Jojo's head
• The Professor locks away the Chemical X in a safe and gets everyone ready for bed
• Bubbles really likes Jojo and wants him to like living with them, while Buttercup hates the idea, saying “A leopard doesn't change its spots”
• Blossom says that he's not Mojo Jojo anymore, that they'll have to find it in their hearts to forgive his past attempts to destroy them, saying it's the right thing to do and that everyone deserves a second chance
• Him is shown watching the girls and complains that they never gave him a second chance
• Enjoying the idea of an eventual betrayal of the trust earned in a second chance, Him decides to “give these girls a little lesson in 'forgiveness'...”

• The boys can't stand the heat and head to the mess hall for a drink of plankton water when a bomb goes off on one of the canola silos
• The Amoeba boys get court-martialed, and Slim says Bossman is a criminal genius, while Bossman looks unsure of what happened
• Back at the Utonium house, the phone is ringing non-stop
• Jojo gets out of his cage, smacks the phone and leans in to hear it, hearing, “Why don't you pass the time by playing a little solitaire?”

• The professor comforts her when Blossom and Princess come flying by, only to continue their own fighting
• Princess says that being good is too much work and not enough pay, also saying bridges are for people who have to go work for a living and that she is never going to need a bridge
• Blossom gets one more hit on Princess before Buttercup gets thrown through the window
• Outside, Sedusa, Fuzzy, Princess, and the Gangreen Gang are running amok
• Buttercup and Blossom get ready to go out there and fight them all when Bubbles tells Blossom she doesn't think she can do that. Admitting that she is a little scared of Fuzzy as well as that there's still good in him, that she can feel it.

• Him gets mad that Fuzzy “dare turn [his] weapon on [Him's] haute couture” and sneers asking what he's going to do about it, calling Him a “Lobster Man”
• Saying that they have their own demons to battle, Him names off the seven deadly sins and the shadows of those around Him, villains and heroes, weigh down the person and bare the names of various sins
    ○ Sedusa's shadow is Envy
    ○ Princess's shadow is Greed
    ○ Big Billy's shadow is Gluttony
    ○ Blossom's shadow is Pride
    ○ Buttercup's shadow is Wrath
• Blossom's and Buttercup's shadows actually speak
    ○ Pride, “I'm the prettiest, smartest, and most important Powerpuff Girl”
    ○ Wrath, “I have so much anger in my heart. I must hurt others to keep the rage at bay.”
• Bubbles doesn't have a shadow bearing a sin, saying Him's whole shadow talk “falls apart when the light is too bright!”
• Bubbles starts to actually shine, blinding everyone, but also makes the shadows disappear, saying that nobody is perfect but there's goodness in everyone, and all you need is love
• Him has had enough and leaves with these parting words, “Take heed! Trust no one and forgive no trespass. Suspicion, fear, and hatred are the natural order of things, and you'd do well to embrace that.”
• Ace suggest that everyone just go their own way since Him messed with all of them, to which Buttercup protests, but Blossom agrees to, since they aren't actually at fault this time
• Bubbles asks Fuzzy before he goes if they could finish their picnic sometime and though he's still grumpy says maybe, and Bubbles hugs him thanking him
• Blossom and Buttercup are ashamed and tell the Professor that they aren't perfect little girls after all, But the Professor says they're perfect to him, and loves them just as they are, which gets the girls to smile again
• Buttercup asks the Professor how long until go back to how they were, and the he says its hard to say. That real change takes time, but every good deed leaves it's mark, and that the hard part is never giving up hope
Chapter Six
• Starts with the girls and Professor driving home, and Buttercup asking the Professor if he saw all her attacks, getting so excited talking about it she doesn't see that their house is smoking with the Front door blasted away
• The Professor is worried about Jojo and the girls clear the smoke to make it easier to see
• They see the Lab also has blast damage and find the safe with Chemical X has been broken, with the beaker broken on the ground
• Buttercup points out a message written on the wall saying “I'm BACK! -sincerely, Mojo Jojo”
• The message is brown, and Mojo left his diaper pinned to the wall of the lab
• The girls are understandably grossed out
• The Professor points out his coffee maker full of Plutonium-239 is missing as well
• There's a loud, earth rumbling boom and the girls fly outside to see a laser coming from Mojo's volcano top lair
• Buttercup says, “I told you so” to her sisters before braking in to stop Mojo
• Mojo tells the girls he plans on destroying Townsville to rebuild it as he wishes, and when Bubbles asks what changed his mind to make him go back to a life of crime, Mojo admits this has been his plan all along
• Hours before his original attack in the exoskeleton robot he realized that his plan would be stopped again by the girls so;
    ○ He hypnotized himself with subconscious instructions to find Chemical X
    ○ Faked all his moping while being dragged to prison
    ○ Tricked the Professor into giving him antidote X knowing he'd feel responsible for Mojo, and take him back in
    ○ Set up a giant drinking bird that would make a phone call to the girls house every hour and play his trigger message, “Maybe you should play a little solitaire”
    ○ Once he heard the message, he sought out chemical X, got back to his old self and stole the Professor's coffee maker
• Mojo had an atomic bomb powered by the Plutonium-239 coffee maker and plans on sending it down into the volcano where it will cause lava to rain down on all of Townsville and cover it in atomic ash for then next few decades
• Mojo also says he has a secret plan B if the girls stop plan A, and Mojo leave in an escape pod while the girls are left trying to stop the destruction of Townsville
• They can't find the button in time and the giant drinking bird hit the button sending the rocket and bomb into the volcano
• The girls dive after it and it's going to fast to disarm it, so instead Blossom get under it freezing the cap with her ice breath to cool the lava under it and slow the rocket, Bubbles screeches to get the outer shell of the rocket to break away and buttercup spirals around the plutonium case and bringing it up with her
• Buttercup's spiral keeps the lava from pouring out after she' out of the volcano,
• Blossom and Bubble are both shown using ice breath to cool the pillar of lava into rock
• Way above the earth Buttercup gets dizzy from all the spinning, but manages to kick the plutonium right into the sun and just missing Mojo's escape pod, to which she's irritated she missed
• Buttercup, still dizzy falls off the top of the very narrow volcano and her sisters catch and hug her, and starts shouting “enough of the mushy stuff! Sheesh.”
Epilogue
• Mojo is in space and not terribly upset that his plan failed, saying that's why he has a plan B
• He hits a button and a “World re Vision” is on the screen with a download bar under it
• Says that he'll come back after a few weeks and come out of his egg ship and the people of earth will worship him like a king
• Realizes that if he's going to be up in space orbiting the planet for a few weeks, that he should have installed a bathroom, adding that he really didn't think this plan through

Let’s Talk Mech-X4!
I’m in the mood to over analyze some characters, so here’s this. This is just me putting my opinion out there. Later I think I’ll actually dive into the development these guys have had since the first episode. I’ve been wanting to discuss this show for a while, too! Hope you enjoy :)
Sooo... Mech-X4 is a pretty cool show. It’s so much better than I was expecting for a Disney live action show. The CGI is pretty impressive for the channel it’s on and the plot is intriguing and different. The acting’s a bit mediocre, but I’m not too picky about that. I wish the fandom was a bit bigger, but I also like the size now. It’s easy to talk and get to know people :)
In order, my favorite characters are:
1. Spyder
2. Mark
3. Veracity
4. Harris
5. Ryan
Now now, that is just my opinion. Everyone has their own. Under the cut, I’ll explain why these characters are ranked how they are. Warning though, not all of this will be positive.
Possible spoilers ahead
Spyder
This may be just a me thing, but I’m always drawn to the comic relief characters on a team (Lance McClain, Sokka, Dez Wade (Austin & Ally) to name a few).
Spyder’s a character I can relate to. In his first appearance on the show, Spyder is ecstatic about Ryan making the vending machine malfunction and he just sits on the ground, savoring the unlimited supply of treats and thanking the heavens and honestly same. That is such a mood.
Everybody’s different in times of peril and hardships. Some people stay quiet, some lash out, some cry, and others make jokes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using humor to lighten a situation, and I hate the way Spyder’s attempts are treated as ‘immature’ and ‘not serious.’ This may be the biggest thing I can relate to with Spyder. When things get tough, I often try to make jokes to make myself or others laugh. Laughter is the best medicine, right? It helps. It doesn’t help for all people or it doesn’t make sense to all people, so sometimes it’s written off as the person not taking the situation seriously and that is just ridiculous.
Another thing that’s ridiculous is how Spyder’s treated. If I were in his shoes, I’d walk away from that entire group. Of course, I’ve already been through the hard time of losing friends and I’m wiser because of it, so that’s a simpler solution for me to say. Maybe not leave this current group, but I do wish he had other people to turn to. He endures constant abuse from his team, if not his friends then Leo. What was it Leo said when they thought Spyder had done something right? “He’s finally proved himself an important asset to the team?” (Don’t quote me on that, I can’t remember the exact line). That just. Ugh. That was in no way, shape, or form the right thing to say. Spyder is an original team member. Mech-X4 would be goners without him. It just bugs me. I hate how Disney shows always have to have that one character that everyone treats like trash just because they’re the comic relief character. Sometimes, those characters develop and earn some respect, but this season (probably the series) is almost over and I have yet to see any kind of actual development for Spyder. Then again, Pearce (Spyder’s actor) did just post on Insta about Spyder solving a “perplexing problem,” so hopefully that earns him some brownie points on the team.
In conclusion, Spyder’s my favorite character. He’s underrated, the team’s underdog. He’s delivered too many blows than he deserves. He has average intelligence on a team with geniuses (minus Ryan. Mr. Leader seems to forget that he’s not a genius either). Spyder’s my favorite character because I can relate to him the most. If he doesn’t get more recognition in the rest of this season, I’m gonna rage.
Mark
I will give credit to the creators on Mark’s character. They’ve written him out to be the perfect older jock brother. I myself have an older brother who was popular and great at sports in high school. He and his friends picked on me all the time. I endured the same sibling abuse that Ryan does. It was terrible, but I gotta admit that I wasn’t complaining much when ten football players came over to swim at my house after practice in the summer ;). Just, everything about Mark being the king of the school and making fun of Ryan and the whole shebang is 100% accurate and I love it so much. Also despite it all, he and Ryan are close at home (even before Mech-X4). All of it is so incredibly relatable. I haven’t really connected with siblings (on Disney anyways) as well as I have with these two. I love it.
That may be the biggest reason Mark’s at number two. Everything Mark did regarding teasing and name calling and pranking was justified to me by just being an older brother. I watched the first episode, listening to Ryan complain and plot some revenge against Mark, and all I could think was same. It’s the struggles younger siblings face that tie us together, I guess. I also liked how, as the show progressed, Mark started treating Harris and Spyder kinda like his little brothers, too. He poked fun at them still, but he didn’t threaten the freshmen when they poked fun back. Mark’s protected them the same way he’s protected Ryan. They really have become a family since this whole thing started, and that’s just beautiful.
Veracity
She hasn’t been in the spotlight long, so this explanation will be short. Being a female myself, I’m a sucker for girls who are confident in what they do. I also love though that she doesn’t know everything, as mentioned by Harris. She’s incredibly intelligent, but she isn’t an expert on the world. I like the balance between the two and that both sides of her have been shown to her friends and the viewers. :)
Harris
Harris is adorable. He’s a scary smart, hilarious smol bean and should be protected, but could probably likely handle himself on his own. There wasn’t really anything that stood out to me for Harris. Unlike the previous characters, I couldn’t find anything to really relate to. He’s a great friend, caring, loyal, the voice of reason everybody needs. The only thing I don’t like is that he’s too much like a dad. I mean, he’s really mature for his age. I wonder if that is because of something that’s happened in the past or if he’s just naturally more mature (though in my experience, you don’t just be more mature than the rest of your peers. There’s gotta be something that molded you into that more mature figure). I love Harris’s catchphrases. I love his humor. I love his little rivalry with Veracity. He’s a fun character with a strong determination to be the best he can be, he just doesn’t top the other three. *shrugs*
Ryan
I... Okay. Let me just say this: I don’t hate Ryan. He’s done a fantastic job getting a hang on those powers and defending the city the best he can. He’s dealt with being adopted and going through the whole process of searching for his father really well. Kudos to him, really.
The thing is though, I dislike Ryan. He acts on impulse, putting his own desires above his team’s. When someone calls him out this, he guilt trips them into doing what he wants. He’s impatient, willing to risk his team drowning instead of just waiting a few more days. I believe there’s a bit of serial killer tendencies rattling around that brain of his, but that’s a topic for a different day.
Look, I do not believe Ryan’s a good leader, at all. He just has the technopathic ability and the robot. Basically, he has all the power, so they don’t really have a choice but to follow. He has potential, of course. He could be a great leader one day, but if I were on his team at the moment, I wouldn’t follow him anywhere.
I know it’s probably an unpopular opinion to be so against Ryan, but I’ve been brooding over this since the first season. He’s a very complex character, I’ll give him that. There’s more to him than meets the eye, I think. Still, he’s not climbing my favorites ladder anytime soon. Maybe it’ll change when the show returns!?
Anyways, thanks for reading my little (actually super long) rant here. Agree, disagree, have any opinions on it? Feel free to tell me! What’s your character ranking? :)

Ahhh this sounds so much fun! Okayyy so the title : A Change of Heart ; Pairing: Jily maybe? Or anyone lol! :D
@coffeewiitch Jily is my jam
Title: A Change of HeartPairing: James Potter & Lily EvansSummary: Sixth year Potter just didn’t have the spark Lily was used to, and she wasn’t sure why.
It was four o’clock; Lily’s favorite rounding shift on Thursdays, because she always rounded twice a week with Remus. Even though she was waiting in the Commons, she pulled her scarf around her neck more tightly. January was freezing in the castle, which hadn’t thought to hop on the muggle bandwagon of HVAC. She smiled when she saw Remus’ long leg with slightly too-short trousers come round the spiral staircase from the boys dormitory, but the smile dropped in annoyance off her face when she saw he was trailed by Potter. She waited for Potter to look up, to tease her, to ask her out. He was always asking, in the most embarrassing ways, and Lily had really come to despise them. She was getting testy about the whole subject, because it was apparent to everyone she would never, in a million years, go out with the swollen-headed seeker. He was everything in a guy she hated; arrogant, just good-looking enough to think he was moreso, a jock on a sports team. He was all the boys in primary who would pull her red hair and bite the other kids. The ones who needed “extra time” from teachers, and made perfect students like Lily absolutely furious when they succeeded.
It was maddening. Potter was looking directly at her, but he wan’t even smiling. He only nodded at her. Nodded. Like they were on friendly terms.
“Alright there, Potter?” she mocked, using his favorite phrase against him. His answering smile was a joke, and he quickly moved to a table where Peter was already studying with Frank and Alice.
There was a reduction of noise as she spoke, anticipating the quibbling, but Potter’s lack of response was received with raised eyebrows, and Lily felt like it was a victory in her favor. She had scored one up on him. But she still felt queasy about it; it had been too easy. She felt like she had taken a cheap shot, and it made her bitter. Potter took plenty of cheap shots, and no one ever looked at him the way Remus was looking at her.
“Ready to go?” she asked brightly, pretending she didn’t notice the dark circles beneath Remus’ eyes. She was beginning to suspect… well, she didn’t want to suspect. She glanced at her watch. 4:05. They were starting late, which was unusual for punctilious Remus.
Their feet took them their usual route; up both towers first, and then steadily working downwards through the eight floors of the castle - including the dungeons - and ending again before the Great Hall. Afternoon shifts were incredibly easy; so many students were still in class, and very few were trying to get a moment’s privacy in the castle’s nooks and crannies. It was a choice rounding selection, almost always grabbed up at the beginning of the year by sixth and seventh year prefects, leaving the hard shifts for the newbies. They mostly stopped in the younger classrooms on floors below - first and second years didn’t have electives - and magicked the chairs up onto desks, wiped clean the blackboards, and left the wastebasket for the caretaker, young Mr. Filch, to empty on the teacher’s desk.
They chatted, as they always did, about inconsequential things. Their friendship was like a movie theater. They always got the previews out of the way first, and Lily talked of Alice’s new ring Frank had given her and Remus spoke of Chuck Spinnet’s new high score of most goals in a game this quidditch season.
“And what about Potter?” Lily asked lightly. “Feeling jealous he’s not the star of the show anymore?”
Remus looked at her strangely. “I don’t think James is thinking about quidditch right now,” he said mildly.
Lily laughed. “Not thinking about quidditch? Besides pranking people and driving McGonagall up a wall, what else does Potter think about?”
“Lily, you should go easy on him,” Remus cautioned, dropping his wand and pulling one of the chairs off a desk to sit in, before offering her another.
Lily was surprised. She and Remus had spoken of many deep things; some even ending with Lily’s tears about Tuni, but never had Remus pulled out a chair to sit down for a serious chat and neglected his prefect duties. He was too much like her: a perfectionist.
“What’s wrong?” she asked nervously, taking the seat. She smiled awkwardly. “You’re acting like someone died.”
Remus’ face did not change, but Lily felt her own melt. “Oh my god,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry, Remus. I didn’t know.”
“It was his dad,” said Remus simply. “He was older. His heart just gave out.”
“In his sleep?” Lily asked hopefully.
Remus shook his head. “At work. It was awful. James was pulled out of breakfast yesterday. He missed all his classes.”
Lily remembered that. They shared several advanced courses. She had just thought Potter was skiving off. It seemed like something he would do, especially as Sirius had as well.
Remus was reading her thoughts. “Sirius went with him. I don’t know if you know but…Sirius…lives with the Potters. Has since last year.”
“I didn’t know,” and Lily felt so foolish, so selfish, and cruel, and rude. She had known - the way everyone suspected and knew - that Sirius’ home life was bad. The howlers, and his brother joining the movement so young, and being pureblood - well no one thought Sirius came from a loving household. But she had never known that he -
That Potter had -
“Fuck,” said Lily quietly, putting her hands to her temples and pressing backwards. “I’ve been such an ass.”
“James doesn’t show it much,” said Remus quietly. “But he’s actually got the biggest heart of anyone I know. And he’s never lost anyone before. Not like this.”
“Of course not,” Lily said at once. “Neither have I. Neither have you. Our parents are still alive.”
“James is not taking it well.”
“Of course. I- er - when’s…when’s the funeral?”
“Friday. Tomorrow. Whatever.”
“Merlin.”
“I know.”
“Are you going?”
Remus nodded. “We’ve all of us got off classes from McGonagall. James is going to stay home over the weekend. I expect Sirius will as well. You know he called him Uncle?”
Lily could hardly fathom this new reality; she had formed so many preconceptions about Potter and Black, and Remus had never bothered to correct her when she ranted about them. She blushed at her ignorance and his graciousness now.
“He should - Potter should - should take the rest of the year off,” she managed, but Remus was already shaking his head.
“We’ve talked about it, but James is adamant that he wants to graduate on time. Says it would break his mother’s heart.”
“Can she…live alone?” managed Lily.
“My Mum and her…they’re friends,” Remus said after a moment. “Sort of like…mentoring friends. Because James’ mum is so much older but… she’s helped my mum through some really hard times. I know she’ll want to -”
“That’s good,” and Lily could hear herself making these nonsensical remarks that said nothing and meant everything. She didn’t know what to say. “You leave tomorrow?” she finally managed.
Remus nodded. “Portkey out of Dumbledore’s office. We’ll change at James’ house.”
Lily felt her stomach seize up. Change. As in wearing funeral clothes.
“Most of it will be the uniform,” Remus continued. “Just not the ties or the sweaters or the robes. James and Sirius have black dress robes, and I have grey. Peter’s are brown, but I don’t think it matters much.”
Lily found herself clutching Remus’ wrist. “Remus, really, if there’s anything I can do,” she managed.
“There is,” and Remus’ smile was sad, and wan, and tired. Lily realized all at once his eyes were bloodshot from counseling James all night. He probably hadn’t slept since his father died. “Go easy on James, alright?”
Lily only nodded, feeling her eyes tearing up. “I will,” she managed.
                                                            ***
The next morning, Lily was up at dawn. She liked to be up early, but this was early even for her. She usually got dressed with the rest of her dormitory, with Mary and Alice and them, but this morning she dressed in half-darkness, with a half-formed idea in her head to write Potter a letter. A condolence card. Stupid, really, she thought savagely. How positively stupid. But she could not think of anything else to do. They never spoke without shouting at one another.
The commons was quiet in the morning, even if the fire was already blazing cheerfully, like it had never been banked in the wee hours after everyone went upstairs. There was no one in it, and Lily crossed purposefully to the portrait hole, but stopped when someone spoke:
“Alright there, Evans?” and Lily spun, shocked, at the most broken, and almost whispered familiar words. Potter was already sitting stick straight in a high wingback chair. His face was white as death, and his eyes were bloodshot. He looked as if he hadn’t slept even the night before, and had come down early to avoid his friends. He was wearing his black trousers and shoes, his white dress shirt and - Lily’s heart skipped with pain - the black Sorting Tie used once by every first year and usually left at home in years after to be recycled by able siblings.
“James, hi,” she said, crossing quickly and settling in the high armchair across from him.
“James,” and he tasted his own name as if he had never heard it. “My, it must be serious then.” His eyes flicked up to hers. “Remus told you.”
Lily could only nod. She opened her mouth to pour out her sympathy but James shook his head fast, too fast, and Lily sensed at once he was close to breaking. He was a cracked teacup still holding fast, but one word might halve it. She changed what she was going to say:
“I remember your father.”
James looked up at her, and she felt her heart turning over with utter confusion at the look of lost things welling in his hazel eyes. “Wh-” he had to clear his throat. When?”
“We met…we talked. On the platform. A few times over the years.”
James could only nod. His mother loved Lily Evans. She made sure to bring the muggle Evanses through the barrier. She loved to tease him about Lily, ever since his first year. It made James broil with humiliation.
“You look a lot like him,” Lily continued helplessly, and it was true. James did look like his father, though his father’s hair was white and untidy, he was just the same tall and angular - all elbows and knees, but with broad shoulders and twinkling blue eyes. James had his mother’s eyes. Brown, or hazel, depending on the light. And he had both his parents’ glasses. Square and wooden, they made his tight and shaking control too obvious to Lily, who had to restrain putting a hand out as she would have with anyone else.
“Thank you,” and James managed it tightly. It was the most polite thing he had ever said to her.
Lily felt the complete inadequacy of I’m sorry searing through her. She mentally tore up the letter she never wrote. There was nothing to be said. And what was to be done? She wasn’t invited to the funeral.
“Let’s…” and she smiled a tiny, broken smile. “Let’s go to breakfast.”
James only stared at her.
“You need to eat,” pressed Lily. “You won’t get to eat until -” but she didn’t finish. They both heard it anyway. Until after the graveside.
“Are you-” and James had to clear his throat. “Are you asking me out?”
Lily laughed, helplessly, wildly, small and choking. “Just to breakfast, mind,” she said severely.
James nodded, and a small, blissful smile crossed his face as he pushed himself to his feet and she followed suit.
“Finally.”

And Then?
Cute little fluffy Bughead one-shot. I just felt like writing and this is what followed :) There’s not much too it but it was fun! Let me know what you think.
***
Betty was sat at the bar of some dingy club in downtown LA that she frequented when she needed to get away. It was never too full with the mingling, self loathing alcoholics that liked to waste their lives in this joint. Nobody ever looked for her here, and she hoped like hell they wouldn’t tonight. Not after what had just gone down.
“Well, well, well.” Betty groaned inwardly at the voice from behind the bar. She really didn’t want to have to worry about holding any kind of conversation right now. Especially not with the rather cute bar tender that she flirted with on occasion. “Got nowhere better to be on a Friday night, dollface?”
“What’s it to you?” She snapped at him and cut him a look, swinging her near empty glass in her fingers. He held his hands up in defence.
“Woah now, it’s not like I’m complaining.” He smirked as her replaced her now empty glass with a full one. “Just surprised a girl like you doesn’t have other plans on a Friday night.”
“A girl like me?” She questioned as she took him in. He was tall, and absolutely gorgeous. Not typically, not like the boy she had just walked out on, no, more old time classic. Even with the beanie that always adorned his head. He was all dark haired and blue, stormy, eyed. And he had this way of smirking that made her toes curl. His eyes were trained on her as he cleaned a glass with a rag that he threw over his shoulder.
“You know, beautiful, blonde, fit as hell.” His eyes fell down to her shoulders, bare from the black off-the-shoulder blouse she was wearing. He licked his lips. “Surely you got a man waiting for you somewhere?” Betty let out the laugh she had been biting back.
“Shut up, Jughead. What’s this, role play?” He frowned at her for a moment.
“Party pooper.” He poked his tongue at her. They had gotten to know each other pretty well in the last 6 months that Betty had been visiting. Little did he know, she wouldn’t frequent as often if he wasn’t behind the bar. She had become fond of him. She liked the way Jughead could hold a conversation, that they had similar interests. She loved the way he could make her laugh. There was no pressure to be perfect Betty Cooper, she could be whoever the hell she wanted to be with this guy. And although they had never actually had a conversation outside of this bar, or even seen each other for that matter, she considered him a friend. A friend she had thought about sleeping with more than once, truth be told. Which made the decision she had made earlier tonight even more solid. But Jughead knew all about her long-term boyfriend Archie Andrews. “So, he’s not whisking you away to some fancy dinner party with the football WAGS tonight?”
“Not tonight, or any other night for that matter.” He raised an eyebrow in question, ordering her to go on. “He proposed, tonight. He proposed and I said no.” She looked up at him when he didn’t respond.
“Heavy shit, Betts.” He took her hand that was resting on the bar into his own. “Are you okay?” She just shrugged at him.
“Yeah, actually.” She let a deep breath she hadn’t realised she was holding. “I feel relieved, actually. How fucked up that?” She let out a slight laugh as it dawned on her.
“Hey,” Jughead squeezed her hand that was still enclosed in his own. He caught her eyes with his own and gave her that smirk she enjoyed so much. “My shifts ending, you wanna split this joint?”
**
To Betty’s surprise Jughead had a dark green jeep parked out the back, and even more to her surprise he wasn’t empty handed when he came out from the back of the bar. He was still all in black, but he had chucked a denim jacket with a fleece collar over the top, and his beanie was still perched on his head.
“A couple of roadies for the lady?” He handed Betty a couple of premixed vodka and lemonades that he had swiped from behind the bar. She gave him a look as if to ask if he was allowed to do that. He tapped his nose. “Perks of the job, sweetheart. And don’t worry, none are for me.” He opened the door for her to jump in the passenger seat. “Wouldn’t want to risk damaging that pretty face.” He winked at her.
“No, that must be your money maker right?” She joked up as she climbed into the jeep.
“Why do you think I get so many tips?” She could hear him laughing as he walked around the car to jump into the drivers seat. It was closing in on midnight now, and it dawned on Betty that she had no idea where they were going to go. Jughead turned to her in his seat.
“Where to, madam?”
“Surprise me, good sir.” He though about it for a moment, and then his face lit up with an idea.
They were driving for only half an hour before Betty became impatient to know where he was taking her.
“Okay, where are we going?”
“To the beach.” He looked at her in his peripheral and smiled. “How’d you not realise by now?”
“I’m not a local, Jughead.” She shrugged and took another swig from her can. “I get lost easy in this busy fucking city.”
“Still so much to learn. We’re not far.” And it was only another 10 minutes before they were there. “You have arrived at your destination, madam.”
“I do love the beach.” Betty was in awe as she looked out at the ocean, it was endless. It made her feel free. She turned to Jughead with a sincere smile, one that made his breath hitch in his throat. “Thanks for bringing me here, Jug.”
“You haven’t even gotten out of the car yet, woman. Come on.”
As Betty jumped down from her seat, she found her feet wobbling beneath her. She had probably had one too many drinks, but she wasn’t in a mind to give a shit. Jughead came round from the other side with his hands in his pocket.
“Shall we?” He nodded to the beach. And Betty, in this new found alcohol hazed confidence, linked her arm through his and headed toward the beach. “So, I have to admit, I do have an ulterior motive for bringing you here.”
“What a surprise.” She said sarcastically. He laughed at her, nudging her side with his arm.
“You can talk here, Betty. Nobody can hear you. Just me. Rant away.”
“This is the first time we’ve like, hung out, you know?”
“I know” He smiled down at her. “And we’re friends, right?” She nodded. “Sooo, talk?” And that’s what they did. They walked together down the beach, and Betty, comfortable in Jugheads arm, and in her slightly tipsy state, spilled her guts. And Jughead just listened.
“We were destined to be together, apparently, me and Archie. And I believed it for the longest time. Although childhood best friends turned high school sweethearts turned adult fuck ups? That wasn’t exactly the plan.” He watched her as she spoke, his eyes trained on the way her mouth wrapped around her words. “We grew up living next door to each other, and fell into those stereotypes. Me the perfect girl next door, him the handsome jock type. And I did love him, at some point honestly, I did. But somewhere between him fucking all those girls and me finding more excuses to avoid him, I realised I didn’t anymore.”
“Jesus, he’s an idiot.” Jughead shook his head in disbelief. “He had you, and he was fucking other girls? Is he dumb and blind?” Betty smiled at him.
“Thanks, Jug. But honestly I can’t blame him. He had only ever known me like that and I don’t think he ever really wanted to be with me his whole life, I think he just felt obligated. Like it was supposed to be Betty and Archie Andrews, some kind of sick All American Dream. But I never want to be some house-wife, and he doesn’t want that life either.”
“So why would he propose, then?” He asked her. Betty let out a sigh before continuing.
“That is one thing I’m not really sure. His football career is really taking off, maybe he thinks it’ll gain good press? Good for his image? I honestly don’t know. All I do know is that he didn’t propose because he wanted to marry me. I could see it in his face. We haven’t even really been together in years. That’s why I walked out. And why would I want that? When, well, if I ever get married, I want it to be because someone loves me. Not just for convenience, not just because ‘that’s how it should be.’ I want to be someone’s only choice, you know?” She looked up to Jughead then, his brow was set in concentration as he really listened to her. She felt her heart flutter at the decency of this boy. He had brought her here for this, so she could let it all out. That’s more than anyone’s done for her in a long time. “Sorry, that all just fell out.” She laughed.
“Don’t be sorry, Betty. I’m just glad that you feel comfortable enough to speak to me about it all. Or to anyone, for that matter.” She squeezed his arm that was laced with hers in appreciation, and he looked at her and smiled.
“You’re a real gentleman, Jughead.”
“That’s me, Jughead Jones, all around good guy.” He was being sarcastic.
“Yeah well, this one won’t finish last.” Jughead wasn’t sure, but he could have sworn she was flirting with him. He stole a glance at her, and she was smiling up at him. “Seriously, thank you.”
“Don’t mention it, gorgeous. So what’s next for you?” He asked. She thought about it for a moment.
“Well, I gotta find somewhere to live.” He nodded.
“And then?”
“And then I want a new job, I want to write about real things. Be a journalist. Not just writing columns in a magazine.” She hadn’t even realised she thought that until the words left her mouth. The beach really was bringing it all out of her, she thought. Or maybe it was Jughead.
“Okay, and then?” She tugged on his arm and laughed.
“That’s enough about me, what about you Mr Jones? You gonna serve me drinks forever?” As she said it she realised how horrible it sounded. “Jesus, sorry, I didn’t mean it like -”
“Betts, its fine.” He laughed. “And to answer you, fuck no. I’m writing a novel, if you must know.” She opened her eyes in surprise.
“What about? Oh my god, can I read it?” Betty was excited to leant that he wrote too, somehow he’d never mentioned it before. There were lots of things she was releasing about Jughead tonight, he was more than a pretty face.
“It’s like a murder mystery kinda thing. And sure, you can proof read the latest on our next date?” He froze at his use of word and quickly looked to Betty’s face to make sure he hadn’t crossed the line. She just had a quiet smile on her face, looking out to the ocean. She pulled her arm free from his, and for a second Jughead was worried he had read her expression wrong, before he watched her take off for the sea. She looked so carefree as she ran, hair loose, arms out. He couldn’t help being reminded just how beautiful she was, even more so than when she was sat behind the bar. Here she was open and carefree, and what he knew all along rung true. He really fucking liked her. “Betty!” He called as he took off after her, picking up her sandals she had discarded on her way. “Betty, what are you doing woman?” He could hear her laughing as he got closer. She had rolled up her black jeans and was knee deep in the ocean, twirling around.
“I feel so free, Jughead. For the first time in maybe my whole life? And looking out at this ocean, it could take me anywhere.” She stopped twirling then, and faced out towards the open water.
“You can go anywhere you want, Betty Cooper. The world is yours. Take it.” He called out to her. She turned to him and waved, urging him to join her. And she looked so at peace he thought “Fuck it” and took off his own shoes, piling them next to Betty. He didn’t even bother rolling up his jeans. When he reached her she pulled him in for a hug, squeezing him tight.
“Thank you, Juggie. This was exactly what I needed. It’s so good to get it all out.” She said in his ear. He could feel the goosebumps on his arm at his close she was to him. She pulled away and smiled the biggest grin he’s ever seen.
“Scream it out, if you want. Shed that skin.” She looked at him for a moment, ticking it over in her mind whether she should.
“ITS MY LIFE.” She screamed in his face. He flinched a little in shock, and then just laughed. “Oops, sorry.” She said a little quieter. He just shook his head.
“No, don’t be sorry. Keep going.”
“I MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS!” She screamed again.
“THIS WATER IS FUCKING FREEZING!” Jughead screamed back, laughing.
“I AM BETTY FUCKING COOPER AND I DO WHAT I WANT!” She was all smiles, her eyes glistening in the moonlight. Jughead wanted to reach out and touch her but she was in her element and he wanted nothing to stop that.
“IT’S MY FUCKING LIFE!” She screamed again.
“FUCK EVERYONE ELSE!” Jughead had to at least let something out.
“WHAT ARE WE DOING RIGHT NOW?” Betty burst out laughing, bringing her hands to her mouth to muffle it.
“YOU’RE LIVING” He screamed back at her.
“Almost” she whispered, in such contrast, before she grabbed his face and pulled it to her own. She kissed Jughead long and hard, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. And he kissed her back just as hard, snaking his tongue into her mouth along with his arms around her waist. And when they both decided to come up for air, neither made a move to let go of on another. Jughead bumped his forehead against hers, both of their breathing was heavy.
“I’ve been wondering what that feels like. Also, did you call me Juggie?” He teased.
“Me too. And yes, I did, it’s cute.”
“I like it.” He kissed her again lightly.
“So” She said, breathlessly. “What’s next?”
“We get out of this freezing ocean?”
“And then?”
Jughead just laughed, and hoped to god that whatever was next in his life involved Betty Cooper.
