wild how one season can really tank the reputation a franchise has.
like, down under and italia never really had a fighting chance - i can’t speak for italia2 but down under2 is really good, despite the absolute struggle bus that was down under 1 . but it’s faded off because 1 is infamous for being the worst ever (debated, but still.)
and on the opposite end, uk1+2 and espana1+2 are all highly acclaimed and revered as some of the best drag race seasons, but uk3 kinda tanked drag race uk’s reputation, and while 4 was okay it didnt really do enough to recover it (and 5 is shaping up to be uh. concerning). and espana 3 seems to have totally crushed espana’s rep as the best franchise.
like. wild. i guess in the hyper saturated market of drag race seasons now a franchise has gotta grip you quick before you drop it completely bc it isn’t worth it in the huge pool. unless it’s a regular us or all stars season, bc theyre the big main ones.
toot toooot

is the tea on canada's drag race vs the world still that theres not a single queen from a non-anglophone franchise and also that icesis is there for some reason. ukvstw was a mess but like it really did have the best cast it couldve had with the seasons that had aired at its time of filming, like some heavy hitters or "robbed queens" in janey, blu, baga and jimbo, some fan faves in lemon and cheryl, a genuine wild card pick in pangina and then they had to go a direction with the american queens and for the direction they chose (which feels off but like anything else wouldve felt off too) mo and jujubee were great choices. youd think that with a sequel season that has a ton of not just new seasons but new franchises to pick from theyd get into a similar casting format but with just more queens but they have truly just not utilized any of the obvious options (i know a lot of them probably were asked and declined im just talking theory here)
like from each franchise you could pick out heavy hitters, fan faves or wild cards but a lot of the obvious choices arent there (see keta minaj, bimini, farida, pythia etc for heavy hitters)
like iirc the seasons that aired pre-filming were thailand 1+2, holland 1+2, italia, espana 1+2, down under 1, uk 1-3, canada 1+2, and rpdr 12 and all stars 6? not sure abt all of these.

Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5: Release Date, Preview & Streaming Guide
Tumblr media
The Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5's release date is here, and we are excited to discuss all the details. Here is a quick refresher on Drag Race Italia's format before skipping to the Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5;s release date and Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5's streaming details. Here is a breakdown of the show's structure. In contrast to the first season, Drag Race Italia's second will have ten contestants. But neither the judge nor the presenter will change. This season will also include Priscilla as host and judge, in contrast to Chiara Francini and Tommaso Zorzi, who serves as the customary judges. Fans may expect a new plot and a few additional adjustments this time. As you can expect, the first Drag Race episode was packed with excitement and drama. Viewers noticed a new look and a few other modifications in the first episode. Recently, the season experienced some changes. Due to its incredible and distinctive costumes and storyline, Drag Race Italia has already attracted much attention. Also read The People's Court Season 26 Episode 12 Release Date: The Neighbor Fence Feud. What Happened In The Last Episode Of Drag Race Italia Season 2? The mini-challenge for this week was a spinning-wheel test. Aura came out on top. The main issue had potential but completely failed to materialize. We saw that the show invited the Season 1 queens for an improv challenge. Each actor from this season was partnered with a contestant from the previous season for this challenge. A few props were provided, but they were required to develop their personas and strive to produce something fascinating. None of it seemed to work, and underutilized the Season 1 actors were giving the impression of a missed opportunity. The "The Runway" category zodiac signs are the focus of this week. Gioffré gave us Aquarius. Gioffré had another gorgeous pose. She doesn't alter her face as much as other drag queens do, and her clothing is very detailed, giving the impression that she leans more toward cosplay. It's fascinating. Our Pisces came from Aura Eternal. It was a fairly understated nod to the zodiac but lacked some impact. Skandalove, who The Shining inspired, brought us Gemini. Solid. Along with Gemini, Nehellenia gave us Alien as a tribute to her masculine half that was striving to show through her feminine façade. La Petite Noire was indeed a Taurus, but she opposed the bullfighting custom. The outfit itself was quite imaginative. Panthera Virus was a gigantic scorpion representing Scorpio, but she was still dark, sexy, and cool and worked well on the runway. Another home run by La Diamond: she was a Taurus who served Cornwall as a medieval warrior. The winner was announced as Diamond, which once again felt appropriate. Panthera and Gioffré were located at the bottom. Aura had a fortunate escape. The song used for the lipsync was "Jem" by Cristina D'Avena. It's a sweet song with a positive vibe. Gioffré caused mayhem. Panthera seemed to perform with more control, but I suppose she had exhausted her options. Panthera has been dropped, and Gioffré keeps going. Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5 Release Date Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5 release date is Thursday, November 17, 2022. Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5 will air at 9:00 am in the US on Discovery+. Drag Race Italia Season 2 Episode 5 will be available for streaming on the channel WOW Plus. Subscriptions will vary from $5 a month to $50 a year. The $50 subscription pack is available with ad-free streaming. But followers need to cross-check the times listed above to catch the forthcoming episode of season 2 of Drag race Italia when it goes live. So update your calendars, and remember to watch episode 5 of Drag Race Italia Season 2, Episode 3. Happy streaming! Who Stands Where In the Ranking? Aura has experienced both highs and lows so far. She might need more experience to carry her through to the finish line of this contest. Gioffré appears to have spent his formative years in New York before returning to Italy. She looks to be doing some alternative drag, and I'm not sure how it will work in this show. Good news thus far, Diamond had a solid start, taking first place in Episode 1, then improved in Episode 2, took first place in Episode 3, and took first place in Episode 4. She's energizing the front-runners. Black Little: There are many things to appreciate about Petite, and her runways appear to be her forte. She sings and dances. Nehellenia appears to be the season's storyteller; she provides interesting discussion points and is fascinating no matter what she does. Skandalove is making his long-awaited comeback to drag. She appears to be a contender because she is excellent at drag. Panthera doesn't appear to take herself too seriously and has a great sense of style. She is a strong performer on stage, but the acting difficulties were her downfall. In Episode 4, Gioffré defeated him in the lipsync. Obama had experienced a roller-coaster of emotions thus far, and she appeared to be becoming agitated with the judges' criticisms. Panthera triumphed in the lipsync contest before being eliminated in Week 3. Tanissa struggled to get comfortable in this competition; she lost to Obama in the lipsync battle and was ousted in Episode 2. The season's top pork chop is Narciso. She struggled in Episode 1's design task and lost to Panthera in the lipsync competition. Also read: Sistas Season 5 Episode 5: Release Date, Preview & Streaming Guide Read the full article

Drag Race Italia EP 2 spoiler
I don't think a lot of people, especially those that aren't Italian or living near Italy, will understand the importance of this episode in regards of LGBTQ+ representation in Italy.
The existence of Drag Race Italia is already a giant step forward for Italian TV and Italy in general. Even before airing, their official Instagram was flooded with homophobic comments, reported and suspended for some time. Recently Italy's senate refused a bill that was aimed at fighting homophobia.
Italy might be a highly regarded country by outsiders who probably think of it being progressive as well, but the general treatment of the LGBTQ+ community is nowhere near acceptable.
First episode already showed that through the stories of the queens. Almost none of them have a good relationship with their parents and family or any at all to be fair.
Such a giant kudos to Enorma Jean who is the first person I've seen on Italian TV to come out as HIV positive and share her story. I know she is considered the villain of the season but she is so loveable for some reason and she truly stole my heart this episode not only due to her story about her family and being diagnosed as HIV positive, but due to stepping up to the challenge and snatching a very deserved win after clearly being given the short end of the stick by her fellow competitors. Ti amo Enorma ❤️
And EP 3 being dedicated to the icon, the legend, the moment, Raffaella Carrà who recently left us, who was a huge icon for the LGBTQ+ community (not only in Italy) and a huge public supporter - my heart 💔 I can already see myself crying watching EP 3
Finally, I wish we could have seen more of Ivana Vamp. She seems so nice and bubbly and was a really fun addition to the season.

5 through 9 💖
Disclaimer 1: I think a lot of these are gonna be from more recent seasons but I promise you that I have watched every English-language season, some multiple times
Disclaimer 2: I have only watched English-language seasons, as I don't have access to Holland, Italia, or España and haven't gotten around to Thailand yet
5. Favourite winner?
I don't know if I have a single favourite winner, but I do have a few winners that I really like
Even though there's only been 2 seasons so it's maybe too early to establish a pattern (and maybe I'm just biased as a Canadian), Canada seems to be really good at either picking a satisfying winner or giving a satisfying winner's edit, however you want to see it. I fell in love with Icesis from the first words out of her mouth in her Meet The Queens ("I am here to make... a friend... just a single friend"). I'd already heard of Priyanka through social media before CDR1 was announced and even though I didn't get to watch the season when it aired, it still felt completely correct to me for Pri to get the crown, although I wouldn't have been any more or less mad if it went to Rita (or Scarlet if she'd had any wins by the finale). I think I like Icesis and Priyanka equally.
For normal US seasons, I think my favourite winner is Jinkx. I've got some of her songs on my Spotify playlists and I like watching her Cool Mom series from time to time, and she's one of the few queens where I went into the finale hoping she'd win and I ended up being right about my predictions (as opposed to when I wanted them to crown Kim... or Alexis... or Pep... or Juju...)
For US All-Stars winners, I'd say Trixie. I watch a lot of her videos on her YouTube channel and she's where I learned to do drag makeup. I describe my own drag look as "an emo, bargain-bin version of Trixie Mattel" since my makeup is based on hers and the only wig I have happens to be blonde.
And then there's obviously not any choice rn with international All Stars winners but I still love Blu. I was literally in tears at the end of the finale bc I enjoy her so much and I know how much she cares about what she represents as a queer Northern Irish public figure. I've been rooting for her since the UK1 Meet The Queens and is the queen I picked as my header when the cast of UKVTW was announced (well, it was originally Lemon, but I changed it to Blu after a couple days bc I'd just had a yellow theme for Christmas, but don't tell Blu that... maybe we could've had an AU where I kept the Lemon banner and she won instead).
6. Favourite Miss Congeniality?
Once again, I don't have a particular favourite, bc we have so many to pick from and so many of them are so fantastic. My personal favourites that I can think of are Pandora Boxx, BenDeLaCreme, Katya Zamo, Heidi N Closet, Blu Hydrangea, and Bimini Bon Boulash. Some others that I think were really good choices for MC were Latrice Royale, Monet X Change, and Nina West. (Doesn't mean anybody I didn't mention is undeserving, probably just that I can't quite remember them at the moment.)
7. Most underrated season?
I feel like I tend to agree with the broader fandom on what is or isn't a good season, so I'm not sure if I have an "underrated" season, unless we count how I don't think US7 was "bad" but just that it was more weird bc it didn't have some of the Drag Race staples like opening the season with a photoshoot + design challenge or having a proper ball, and it had a lot of fashion queens with hardly any design challenges for them to show off those skills (imagine if UK2 had Veronica with no Rusical or if US6 had Bianca with no stand-up challenge). However, without US7, we might not have the icons that are Katya and Trixie or that moment of Pearl's infamous "Is there something on my face?"
Otherwise, I'd stretch this question to mean "a season I think had more potential and could have been better" like UK3, which put all of its eggs in one basket and was screwed when that basket busted her knee in the first episode, or DU1, which had a lot of errors made by production such as handpicking the cast instead of doing an open call and casting someone with a known history of performing in raceface and trying to make Kita and Elektra the villains when they were 2 of the most likeable queens.
8. Most underrated queen?
We have again run into the problem of "I can't pick just one" but I feel like I have some faves who just aren't liked by a large portion of the fandom, such as Daya Betty or Kandy Muse or Yvie Oddly.
9. Favourite host?
I'm going to say something that's perhaps controversial yet brave (but won't be a surprise to anyone who already knows my opinions about him) but anybody EXCEPT RuPaul. He's his own little package of problems that I won't unpack today, but I enjoy everyone else more. I haven't watched Thailand yet but from what I saw on UKVTW I guess it's now law that I must see more of what kind of entertainment Pangina Heals has to offer me. I like CDR1's method of using a guest host every week and it was fun seeing people like Mary Walsh and Elisha Cuthbert do the "start your engines" bit and while CDR2 didn't do that, understandably due to COVID most likely, they at least changed things up each week by having Brooke do it slightly differently, like "May the best drag queen EEE 🔪 EEE 🔪 EEE 🔪 win!"

After watching a couple episodes of Drag Race Italia and getting caught up. These are some observations.
1) Italian drag seems to be campy or fashion, but no in between.
2) They might have the best and biggest pit crew for all the series. Those dudes can dance. (It sucks that one of them is allegedly Transphobic)
3) The Italian queens are shady and be ready to fight fight in untuck.
4) Something’s weird about this judging panel, i can’t put my finger on but i feel like it’s not a good mix.
5) they need to stop with the jump cuts during the runway.
6) A lot of things about the season reminds me of season five of US drag race.
