TRANSFORMERS TRADING CARD GAME IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE
TRANSFORMERS TCG from Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast to Launch Later in 2018; Fans to Get Sneak Peek with Convention Edition Item at San Diego Comic-Con and Gen Con
PAWTUCKET, RI AND RENTON, WA–JULY 10, 2018 – Hasbro, Inc., a global play and entertainment company, and Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro and the publishers of the seminal trading card game Magic: The Gathering, provided more details today  about a trading card game inspired by Hasbro’s iconic TRANSFORMERS franchise: the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game. Designed for players ages 8 and up, the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game will be available for purchase in the United States and certain other markets later in 2018.
The TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game is a fast, easy-to-learn action battling card game designed for two players. Players build a team of TRANSFORMERS character cards and power them up with a customizable deck of battle cards. TRANSFORMERS character cards are huge – character cards in the AUTOBOTS Starter Set and Booster Packs are twice the size of standard playing cards, and can be flipped from bot mode to alt mode and back – and feature premium printing treatment on one of their sides. The deck of battle cards features Action and Upgrade cards to enhance TRANSFORMERS character cards.
“The TCG format lets us pull TRANSFORMERS characters from across the brand’s massive history. From Bumblebee to Sunstorm – the game is digging deep into the TRANSFORMERS lore,” said Drew Nolosco, TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Brand Manager. “We can even focus on different aspects of the same character. Optimus Prime, for example, is immensely powerful in combat, but he’s also a master tactician. The Transformers TCG will let players explore the characters’ depth through engaging and tactical gameplay.”
At launch, TRANSFORMERS fans can look forward to the following:
·       AUTOBOTS Starter Set - The AUTOBOTS Starter Set contains cards for two players to begin gameplay, and features OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE, IRONHIDE and RED ALERT character cards. It will be available for purchase at retailers in the United States beginning on Sept. 28, 2018, and in certain other markets later in 2018.
·       TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Booster Packs - Players can add to their character card teams and battle card decks for full gameplay with Booster Packs. Each Booster Pack contains 1 TRANSFORMERS character card and 7 battle cards from a pool of 40 character cards and 81 battle cards. Booster Packs will be sold separately and available for purchase at retailers in the United States beginning on Sept. 28, 2018, and in certain other markets later in 2018.
Fans can get a first look at four cards for the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game in July with the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Convention Edition. Limited quantities will be available for purchase at Comic-Con International 2018 in San Diego, Gen Con 2018 in Indianapolis and through the Hasbro Toy Shop at HasbroToyShop.com, where available, after the conventions. The TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Convention Edition contains two TRANSFORMERS character cards (CLIFFJUMPER – RENEGADE WARRIOR and SLIPSTREAM – STRATEGIC SEEKER) and two battle cards (All-Out Attack and Tandem Targeting System) not available in the AUTOBOTS Starter Set or the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Booster Packs.

Transformers Trading Card Game Will Be Discontinued By Wizards of the Coast
July 20, 2020 5:59 PM EST
After failing to meet expectations, Wizards of the Coast is pulling the plug on the Transformers TCG due the dismay of Autobot loyalists.
In a statement on the game’s official Facebook page, Wizards of the Coast has announced that the Transformers TCG (trading card game) will be ending. With this in mind, the Titan Masters Attack set being the game’s final release.
The short life of Transformers TCG is the result of the tumultuous time we all find ourselves in with the global pandemic and the hurdles it has created. Additionally, the game failed to meet expectations to draw in a broader fanbase.  Wizards–while admitting that the TCG was growing among the retailer and player communities–just couldn’t seem to pull in enough Transformers fans to get invested. Because of this, the Titan Masters Attacks set (which was the last set to release back on May 29, 2020) will be the game’s last.
Titan Masters Attack is the Transformers TCG Final ReleaseFor over two years, Wizards of the Coast has worked to…
Posted by Transformers Trading Card Game on Monday, July 20, 2020
Transformers TCG managed to stick around for only two years. Still, even in that short time, Wizards was able to create a unique and exciting card game that find clever solutions that captured the essence of the franchise transforming. Booster packs were oversized and stood out on shelves, as each one contained an oversized holographic card with dynamic and exceptional art of man of fans’ favorite bots.
One side of the card showcased the vehicle mode while the other debuted the robot mode, each with separate stats and abilities. Later sets continued to convert more popular aspects from the show into a game mechanic with the Titans, Head Masters, and most impressively the Combiners. Titan Masters being gigantic city-sized Transformers that were on even larger cards that were powerhouses and had tremendous amounts of health.
The other big addition that the game got was the Combiners, giant robots that were composed of numerous other Transformers–think Voltron or Megazord–and how the team implemented these characters with only two-sided cards was quite brilliant. The cards were folded versions of a usual Transformer card, with the bot and vehicle modes each filling out one side of the folded card. When unfolded, the back showed a piece of the larger combined robot. It was genius, and trying to collect all the parts of the various Combiner teams was more exciting than your traditional booster pack opening.
youtube
The gameplay was distinctly its own, letting players change their characters from robot mode and vehicle mode on their turn, and incorporating a random-draw mechanic that would determine how much damage you would do and take. It was vastly different from other TCGs on the market, including Wizards’ monolithic Magic: The Gathering. It’s a bummer that it couldn’t get more of the limelight from the fanbase. I spoke with Drew Nolosco, brand manager for the game, back at PAX East 2019 for Irrational Passions–it was clear that the team had a lot of ideas on bringing more series staples over to the card-board dimension, including the planet-devouring terror, Unicron.
We will never know how this game would have faired if it didn’t have to contend with a global crisis, and we will never see how the game would continue to evolve, which will gnaw on fans of the game for years to come. If you have ever wanted to try the game out, you should pick up packs or pre-made decks while you still can, before they’re gone, back into the Matrix that birthed it, never to be seen again.

TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Gets Bigger (Literally) With Addition of Metroplex Deck
 Hasbro, Inc., a global play and entertainment company, and Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro and the publishers of the seminal trading card game Magic: The Gathering, provided more details today about the METROPLEX Deck, the first expansion for the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game.
“The character METROPLEX is a Titan – he converts into an entire city and towers over most of the other giants of the TRANSFORMERS universe. Keeping that in mind, we knew that METROPLEX deserved an even bigger card than the game’s standard oversized character cards,” said Drew Nolosco, TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Brand Manager. “The METROPLEX character card is 200mm tall – almost 8 inches. Whether in bot mode or alt mode, METROPLEX is one of the biggest TRANSFORMERS characters around, and now he has a suitably Titan-sized trading card.”
The METROPLEX Deck will see the AUTOBOT Titan enter the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game’s ranks for the first time, but he won’t be alone. During the game, players will be able to use the METROPLEX character card to deploy his three component bots: SCAMPER, SLAMMER, and SIX-GUN.
METROPLEX Deck – The METROPLEX Deck contains the cards for one player to bring the Titan METROPLEX into the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game experience. It features the METROPLEX, SCAMPER, SIX-GUN, and SLAMMER character cards and a 40-card deck of battle cards including three battle cards–Rally the City, Height Advantage and Protected by Metroplex—not available in the AUTOBOTS Starter Set or the TRANSFORMERS Trading Card Game Booster Packs. The METROPLEX Deck will be available for purchase at retailers in the United States beginning on Nov. 21, 2018, and in certain other markets later in 2018.

It’s been an extremely busy few days since our last post, so come on in and check out a whole grip of new Character and Battle Cards!
phew There’s a whole heck of a lot to get caught up with, so let’s get down to it!
  First off, at this past weekend’s European Energon Opener, Transformers TCG Brand Manager Drew Nolosco was in attendance and he brought a special surprise in the form of Private Highjump, finally rounding off the Off-Road Patrol! Then came the reveal of the new Insecticon Private Kickback via the TCG’s Facebook page. And tthrough two seprate blog posts, we’ve seen the triumphant return of Triple Changers with Private Sandstorm and four new Battle Cards: Designated Target, Minor Medical Kit, Crowbar, and Point Position!
  #gallery-0-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  Oh, but that’s not all! Not by a long shot! Via various Twitter users we’ve gotten more Action Master partner goodness in the form of Raider Sights (Who’s Battle Master form is a Utility upgrade, meaning you can have all three Upgrade slots filled with Battle Masters!) and the Battle Card Acute Reflexes from @FrancisCapra, Private Smokescreen from @Arune, and Private Greenlight with the Triple Changer-centric Battle Card Conversion Engine from @425Suzanne!
  #gallery-0-11 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-11 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-11 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-11 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  Finally, we have Jam Signals from VectorSigma.info, another Triple Changer who has the potential to be absolutely brutal in the form of Captain Astrotrain and the Battle Cards Backfire, Involuntary Promotion, and Pincer Movement from the WTF@TFW podcast, Captain Impactor from Unicron.com, and Private Fixit and the Hidden Fortification Battle Card from Powered by Primus!
  #gallery-0-12 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-12 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-12 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-12 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  And THAT is all she wrote… for now anyways! It’s an awful lot to chew on, but once you’ve got your mind wrapped around how Captain Astrotrain is a Common who as the potential to do FOURTEEN DAMAGE if he’s in robot mode, has all three upgrade slots filled, and has three Attack Drones in his weapon slot, come share your reactions to how in-sane that is on the Allspark forums, Discord Server, or Facebook page!

Armor scrapping, Micromaster squishing, and other senseless acts of robot-on-robot cruelty await within!
First on the docket, Cameron Ehteshami‏ of the Arbitrary Hero YouTube channel got to reveal a pair of battle cards in a video posted to said channel! The first, Dismantling Claw, has a blue and a green pip and allows you to scrap an enemy’s weapon after scrapping the Claw itself. While it’s attached, you also have +1 to attack! The other is Reactive Armor, which does the same thing as Dismantling Claw except for armor upgrades! It also has an orange pip instead of a blue and gives +1 to defense instead.
  #gallery-0-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  Meanwhile, Seibertron’s TwinCast podcast interviewed Transformers TCG Brand Manager Drew Nolosco about the newly announced organized play events (keep reading for more on those!) and also dropped three more Battle Cards that are coming in Wave 3! The first, Scavenge the Battlefield, is a Secret Action that allows you to move any of a KO’d character’s upgrades to another of your still active characters. Second is the very morally troubling card Squish Them Like Bugs, the art for which depicts an Ultra Magnus overtaken by murderous intent trying to crush the poor Sports Car Patrolmen Detour and Road Hugger underfoot! If you can get over this horrifying act of cruelty, playing the card deals 1 damage to any enemy character with a lower star cost than the attacker, provided you first attack another character who also has a lower star cost. Finally, there’s Two-Pronged Attack, a card just for everyone out there running a MegaStar deck! After playing it, you can pick any character with a Tank alt mode (like Megatron) or a Plane alt mode (like Starscream) and force your opponent to either scrap two cards from their hand or deal two damage to one of their characters.
  #gallery-0-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Where does the Tyrest Accord stand on this?!
  Finally, while not quite as exciting as some shiny new cards, Wizards of the Coast has now published the in-depth floor rules that will be governing their newly announced official tournaments! Check out the full, 27 page PDF over on the Wizards Play Network site here! And if you still have questions about these rules or just what the heck Organized Play means for the game, the TFTCG team is soliciting questions for a special, event oriented Rules Round-Up that’ll publish next week!
  There’s less than a month to go until War for Cybertron: Siege I hits on June 28th! If you’re looking to preorder a Booster Box, you can find them at any number of retailers, such as Amazon or your Friendly Local Game Store! And be sure to check out the Allspark forums, Facebook page, or Discord server to talk all things Transformers TCG and Transformers in general!
