Time for another no nuance November #bad take
I genuinely believe that our society can and should accommodate a much wider range of experiences and abilities & that there are too many people struggling who really shouldn't be.
At the same time! There are many times where a struggle is something you must personally overcome to grow. Identifying challenges, disabilities, and disorders can help connect with resources and support and allow one to understand the nature of their struggles and pain. At a certain point identifying with the barriers you face can make them more challenging to overcome. Sometimes the only way out is through and sometimes you must do shitty stuff you don't like & find actively uncomfortable.
#the fine line between respecting & supporting differently abled individuals#and the belief that everyone can do things to support themselves and grow and bring something into this world#having a good support system is important and asking for help is better for everyone than suffering alone#but sometimes you gotta choke down food you dont like#sometimes you gotta shffer through physical discomfort in an unfriendly environment#sometimes things are gonna suck and you have to learn to deal with that to a certain extent#but things absolutely should the fuck not suck all the time#and so many things are unnecessarily difficult & painful for no apparent reason#thats stupid and sucks ass and i hate it & no one should have to deal with it#nd constantly suffering through unnecessary bullshit is exhausting and makes the challenges you must inherently overcome way more difficult#the specific situation im thinking off is an autistic person struggling with safe foods#due to overindulgence in the only thing their brain will let them eat#& constantly struggling to find things they can eat because whenever they settle into something it becomes unpalletable#which i can understand and relate to#but the inflexible mindset i have found in my autistic peers is heavily not conducive to the strategy i have found success in#which is trying things i know i dont like & finishing a small serving#cause i have personally found that after having a break from something i ate too much of there are many times i can come back and enjoy it#& having a bigger rotation means im less likely to overindulge#but it takes self control that is difficult to maintain and subjecting myself to things i dont like#which is lame and sucks#but to a certain extent i must eat and cannot avoid these trials

Taking A New Approach On Weight Loss May Be The Answer To Reach Your Goals! By Sightless Living. Spring / Summer 2022.
Need to lose Weight and giving up? Before you decide to do that, please let me tell you my Story. For Months, I tried those frozen, supposedly Healthy Meals, found in the Grocer's Frozen Food Section, every day at Work for Lunch. I was following the Trend, as everyone was buying and bringing them to Work. I could start saving money from avoiding buying out with the rest of the Office Crowd, I thought. At first, I could see and feel the difference. My clothes were looser and I was feeling alright. After a few Months into this routine, I started getting Headaches. This was a new thing for me. Was I not eating enough? ... Not getting enough sleep at night? ... What was this? ... I thought. But anyway, I continued with the daily routine. One day, I strolled into the Office Kitchen / Dining area to heat up my frozen, supposedly Healthy Meal, only to find the three Microwaves in use. I sat down at a Table and waited. With nothing else to do, I began perusing the Frozen Meal Box's Ingredient List. I was Horrified to learn the amount of Milligrams of Sodium (otherwise known as Salt) this Meal contained. I then noticed all the Chemicals, Food Additives, Colorings, etc., and  started to wonder why do they include all this stuff when it is supposed to be a Light Healthy Meal with Natural Ingredients? It was now my turn for the Microwave, so I slit the plastic per the Directions and popped the Meal inside the Microwave. When the Meal was done, I brought it to a Table, sat down, and began to eat. I said to Myself, I better enjoy this because I am not purchasing these any more! The next Morning I packed Lunch for Work and went into the Office. It was a Sandwich, mid-morning snack, Desert Cup, a whole Fruit, and a Drink. As fellow Co-Workers came into the Dining area to eat, I could smell all the delectable selections Co-Workers purchased for their Lunch. I looked at my Lunch with despair but then thought about all those Hidden Ingredients included in Meals we Purchase, and turned my focus back to finishing my Lunch. Weeks of this Routine removed those Headaches I was starting to develop along with the Water my Body was starting to absorb from the excessive Sodium in those frozen, supposedly Healthy Meals. My Weight then started Reversing! Two pounds, 3 pounds, 5 pounds, more; Gone! Fast forward to Current, Weight started piling again due to the low Activity as a result of the Pandemic. The life of Socializing, going to the Gym, Walks with Friends, were no longer an option since everything had come to a screeching halt. I started searching the Internet to find other options for exercising during a Pandemic. I came across Articles relating to controlling the portions of food we eat. Portion Control is not a special Diet; It's just Eating sensibly and Watching What we Eat. It is one of the best ways to easily Fight Obesity. It is Important as it Allows us to have a handle on the Amount of Calories we are about to consume. This way, we Eat what our Body Needs, Instead of mindlessly Overindulging. Did you know Statistics show portion sizes in the USA have increased over the past two decades? Research also shows, portion size influences how many calories a person consumes. So, size does matter after all, and affects how much food we consume. Keep in mind, regularly overeating and then cutting our serving size may make us feel hungry and binge eat Junk Foods to fill the void. But, don’t give in; Instead, choose Lower Calorie-Dense Foods which can help reduce overall calorie intake while making us feel fuller. Practicing portion control will help you reach your Health Goals. Chewing and Swallowing more slowly can help us get used to smaller portions as our new norm. Sitting down and leisurely eating our food, rather than wolfing down a Meal on the run, can also give our Brain the time it needs to send the signal we are full. Also, while perusing the Internet, I accidentally found a Gadget. I became intrigued and placed an Order. Within Days, my nifty Gadget had arrived. I washed it and started using it with my next Meal. Amazing! NO Pills, NO Weigh-ins nor Food Scales!

The Ultimate Guide to Kick Sugar Addiction
Likening a sugar addiction to a drug habit might seem like an overreaction on the surface, but it might not be exaggerated. Surely, at some point in time, you might have found yourself really craving a chocolate bar, a slice of cake or a can of a soda pop, even when you’re not hungry. This is what’s referred to as a stop sugar cravings and almost all of us have experienced this before. But have you ever stopped to think that these cravings might be symptomatic of a sugar addiction?
If you habitually consume products, whether it’s food or beverages, with large quantities of added sugar from day to day at consistent times, you might experience an underlying sensation to continue doing so. Why is that? Meaning, the buzz we receive from sugar stands to be more attractive than the high we get from cocaine.
How do We Know This? About ten years ago, a comprehensive study was conducted by Professor Bart Hoebel, along with his team in the Department of Psychology, at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute using lab rats to study the effects it has on the brain. Stop your Sugar Cravings Prior to the experiment, the rats received consistent dosages of sugar until they had become dependent on the substance, and then would be denied it for long periods of time. When they were reintroduced to sugar, they ate it in higher volumes than from before, showing a drastic spike in sugar addiction.
What Were the Results?
Bingeing: When the sugar was eventually reintroduced to the rats, they self-administered at higher volumes. This might be due to a combination of one or two things: 1.) cross- sensitization could result in a much more enhanced reaction than before, so their bodies want to ride that feeling, or 2.) the tolerance they’ve worked up towards a substance requires them to ingest more to solicit the delightful feeling you derived from it before. According to Dr. Hoebel, “Limited periods of access, to create ‘binges’, have been useful, because the pattern of self-administration behavior that emerges is similar to that of a ‘compulsive’ drug user. Even when drugs, such as cocaine, are given with unlimited access, humans or laboratory animals will self-administer them in repetitive episodes or ‘binges.’”
Cravings: Of course, with the abstinence from something your body receives regularly, we experience a strong desire to be reunited with the substance in question. In this case, with the rats, in their attempts to be rewarded the sucrose solution they so desperately desired, they resorted to trying to respond more to cues that could in anyway be associated with receiving sugar. Their behavior was very similar in a way to what drug abusers go through during a relapse period.
Withdrawal Symptoms: During the period of sugar withdrawal, the rats were prone to bouts of aggression, depression, anxiety and a decrease in body temperature. The funny thing is, not funny “ha-ha,” these are the same exact symptoms rats suffering from opioid withdrawals. Not even joking. Their anxiety had raised, evident by the considerably reduced time they spent on the elevated maze. Their depressive state was apparent through a sort of forced-escape test where they must either swim or float. Less and less rats attempted to escape, and more and more rats passively floated instead. Hoebel adds “Spontaneous withdrawal from the mere remove of sugar has been reported using decreased body temperature as the criterion. Also, signs of aggressive behavior have been found during withdrawal of a diet that involves intermittent sugar access.”
Gateway Effect: Due to cross-sensitization, people tend to be drawn to other substances and drugs. During the withdrawal period, the rats consumed more alcohol than from before they were derived of their precious sugar, illustrating the changes to their brain function, very similar to us in identical conditions.
Now that we’re a little more aware of how addictive sugar can be, lets take into consideration what’s the #1 cause of death in the US. If you guessed heart disease, then you are indeed correct, with more than 5 million people dying annually from it. That means that one in every four deaths is the result of heart disease. Compare that to the 72,000 that died from a drug overdose last year, 2017. How does sugar addiction tie into this? Well, just in case you forgot….
Sugar is Devastatingly Harmful to your Health! Again, it’s as addictive as, if not more than, drugs like cocaine and heroin. Sugar addiction can also affect your mental well-being just as much as your physical well-being; it has been linked to certain cancers; and the list goes on… and on… and on.
According to a study conducted by researchers over five years ago at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, the molecule of sugar has a particularly grim effect on heart health. Their findings, which was published in the May 21 issue of the Journal of the American Heart Association, states that sugar not only puts stress on your heart, but it can also lead to heart failure.
Sugar’s Effect on Your Heart According to their research, the molecule, glucose 6-phosphate (G6P), “causes stress to the heart that changes the muscle proteins and induces poor pump function leading to heart failure.” G6P can accumulate in your body when you consume too much sugar and/or starch.
Lead researcher, Heinrich Taegtmeyer, a doctor and professor at the University, added “When the heart muscle is already stressed from high blood pressure or other diseases, and then takes in too much glucose, it adds insult to injury.” With our processed-foods, it’s no wonder the statistics on heart disease are so incredibly staggering… with 5 million Americans dying from heart failure and 550,000 new patients diagnosed with heart failure each year in the U.S.
What’s worse? With the numbers rising every year, Taegtmeyer claims there have been little-to-no significant medical advances in the treatment of heart disease. So that, of course, leaves prevention. Unfortunately, with instances of obesity through the roof, especially in the younger generation – methods of prevention are anything but in place.
You Think Glucose is Bad? Try Fructose. Sugars are not all created equally. Take fructose, for example. Dr. Robert Lustig, Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of California, has been researching the differences in sugar metabolism for years. What he’s found regarding fructose is quite shocking:
Fructose is metabolized by your liver to FAT far more rapidly than any other sugar.
Fructose promotes the development of visceral fat, which is the dangerous “deep” fat that wraps around your inner organs and can increase your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even dementia.
Unlike glucose and other sugars with which your liver only has to break down a portion (approximately 20 percent), the entire burden of breaking down fructose falls on your liver.  This spurs the production of toxins and wastes, including the health-damaging uric acid.
Whereas your body utilizes glucose for energy and very quickly burns it up, fructose lingers and turns into free fatty acids, bad cholesterol and triglycerides, which get stored as fat.
The metabolism of fructose can lead to fatty liver disease and insulin resistance, which of course is a precursor to diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
120 calories of glucose results in less than one (1) calorie being stored as fat; 120 calories of fructose results in 40 calories being stored as fat.
Unlike glucose, fructose has no part in helping to regulate ghrelin (your “hunger hormone”) and leptin, which suppresses your appetite.  In fact, Lusting claims that fructose may actually trigger changes in your brain that lead to overeating and weight gain.

A Sugar Calorie is Not Just a Calorie Think of what you’ve been told for years: “a calorie is a calorie.” That’s simply not true. As Lusting points out, you can ingest the “same amount of calories from fructose or glucose, fructose and protein, or fructose and fat, but the metabolic effect will be entirely different despite the identical calorie count.” This is misunderstood, quite often. Essentially, if you’re consuming foods that contain fructose, you’re programming your body to “create and store fat.”
How much is Dangerous? Many experts recommend keeping your fructose intake to 25 grams or less per day, with 15 grams or less being ideal. That’s no easy feat considering fructose is in SO many of the foods you eat and beverages you drink. Not to mention “foods” you don’t think much about, such as ketchup. If you’re a soda drinker, you’re in big trouble when it comes to fructose. One 12-ounce can of soda has 40 grams of sugar, half of which are fructose.
Be a Smart Shopper, a Smart Eater By paying close attention to how much sugar you and your family are ingesting daily, you can make significant changes in your family’s health, not only from a weight perspective, but from a full-body perspective as well.
However For those looking to break their sugar addiction completely, know this first off: Don’t quit cold turkey! It’s over-dramatic and it will likely incite a binge, so you might want to approach this a little more gradually. That kind of drastic change can incite stress, which can, in turn, inhibit immune functions and cause our blood sugar levels to raise. And considering that’s the very thing we’re trying to avoid, it seems very counter intuitive. The trick is to slowly retrain your taste buds to enjoy other things that aren’t as sweet.
What Else Can You Do?
Eat foods with higher concentrations of healthy fats, like fruits, vegetables and organic proteins to fight of symptoms of fatigue.
Keep yourself hydrated and have a glass of water to stave off sugar addiction.
Instead of turning to sugar as a stress reducer, why not just try to get a good night’s rest instead? Sometimes our sugar cravings might be correlated to a lack of sleep.
Exercise when you feel like you have no energy. No, really! Take a hike, or go for a walk, as being more active increases your endorphins.
Start your day off with a well-balanced, nutritional breakfast to prevent the likelihood of sugar cravings throughout the day.
It might make your mornings more difficult, but you might want to consider cutting the coffee out. Or, at the very least, try and reduce it to one cup a day.
Try to add spices like cinnamon, cloves or nutmeg to your food to reduce cravings while adding natural sweetness to your food.
As stated earlier, sugar is present in so many of the foods and drinks we consume on a day-to-day basis, so we must be aware of the many names that it goes by: sucrose, dextrose, lactose, ethyl maltol, maltose, treacle, muscovite, agave nectar, blackstrap molasses, galactose and much, much more. Know the enemy! These guys can hide in anything, so start reading the nutritional labels if you aren’t already.
If you got a monkey on your back screaming for something sweet, try and at least time your sugar intake at an appropriate time in the day. For example, maybe wait 20 minutes to a half hour after extraneous activity or workout, as our bodies are much more efficient at digesting it afterwards.
Take vitamin D3 and omega 3 fatty acids, or 1000 to 2000 mg of L-Glutamine
Be wary of artificial sweeteners, as, depending on the frequency in which they’re used, can cause sugar cravings to worsen, which defeats the whole purpose of a sugar substitute in the first place.
If it’s far too difficult to distance yourself from unhealthy, sugary foods, why not combine them with healthy foods? Chocolate strawberries anybody
Need to take your mind of your sugar cravings? Chewing gum has been known to help reduce stress, focus your mind, and help diminish cravings.
Don’t wait too long to eat in between meals. If you wait too long, and miss appropriate meal times, may set you up for failure, opting to choose something more accessible and worse for you.
We tend to eat our feelings in times of stress and sadness, but that doesn’t treat the cause, nor the symptoms. Reach out to others for emotional support.
It’s okay to reward yourself here and there but remember to really limit yourself to how much that is. You could very easily fall into a relapse of your sugar addiction. Then your reward becomes your life, again.
Find a quiet spot to sit and focus on your breathing.
It’s not going to be an easy road to kick sugar addiction, but most things working towards never are. And the health benefits that come with it do not exclude a considerably reduced risk of heart disease, obesity, liver disease, fatigue, mental disorders and impotence. And with all that in mind, is reducing your intake to less than 15 mg a day really that bad?

To “bottle up” means to suppress your feelings. It is when you refrain from venting out that you end up bottling your emotions. Be it due to the the fear of seeming weak or the unwillingness to feel the negativity, but avoiding challenging emotions doesn’t make them go away. In fact, they have an adverse effect on our minds and bodies.
We need to understand just how intrinsically our bodies and minds are connected, and why that makes mental health such a vital part of overall health and well-being. You see, when we home negative emotions like anger and anxiety, we tend to disrupt the normal balance of cortisol—the stress hormone. Not only that, this also leads to a lowered immune system functionality, risk of depression and chronic illnesses like heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes.
So, while it is important to acknowledge and express your emotions, the first step is to understand what kind of harm are you causing yourself by bottling up emotions.
1. You end up feeling lonely When you bottle up your emotions you tend to cut yourself off from others, thus disconnecting from your friends. So, if you have been a good listener to your friends when they are venting out, perhaps it’s time to swap places talk openly about what happening with you.

2. You feel anxious all the time Bottled up emotions find a way to come out in one way or the other. So, when you choose not to deal with what you are feeling, your mind tends to latch on to the fact that you are trying to deceive it. This sense induces feelings of anxiety, thus making you feel perpetually anxious.
3. You latch onto unhealthy coping mechanisms Anything in extreme is harmful. So, when you find yourself drinking, smoking, eating, or even working out excessively, know that your mind is trying to avoid the inflow of certain thoughts and emotions.

4. You experience unexplained weight fluctuations Your body experiences a great deal of stress when you bottle up your emotions. As a reaction it produces the stress hormone, cortisol. This happens as a counteraction to the release of adrenalin. However, it comes with a downside. It suppresses appetite in most people.
While you might lose weight initially, once the cortisol takes over and your appetite returns, it leads to weight gain.

6. You’ll have regular headaches Headaches on a regular basis without any underlying physical ailments could imply that you are struggling to keep your emotions under control. When this happens you also find it hard to focus and find yourself mostly distracted.
All of these effects confirm one thing, that is, your emotions find a way to surface. And it is up to you if you let them out in a healthy manner or wait till they affect you adversely.

Pick up any consumer magazine or health-related website and you’ll almost certainly see an article or two about how to lose weight. The drawback is not all of the weight loss advice you read online or hear from other people is backed by science. Plus, much of the weight loss advice you get isn’t practical or sustainable.
Just look at some of the previous dieting and weight loss fiascos. Remember the cabbage soup diet? Believe it not, one diet fad called the cotton ball diet made its rounds a few years ago. Advocates of this diet advocated soaking cotton balls in orange juice and eating them to reduce hunger. Not only would it not be effective, but it could also be dangerous!  In fact, most extreme diet advice doesn’t hold up to scrutiny and is more likely to cause a nutritional deficiency than significant weight loss. Let’s look at some other less than scientific or practical weight loss advice.
Bad Weight Loss Tip #1: Eat a Low-Fat Diet to Lose Weight
Low-fat diets were popular two decades ago, but the popularity of this approach is dwindling. Fat isn’t the enemy! Your body needs a certain amount of dietary fat to make two essential fatty acids: linolenic acid and linoleic acid. Plus, fat aids in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and is important for brain health and healthy skin.
What about low-fat packaged foods? Manufacturers reduce the fat content of these offerings, so the calorie content is lower, but the lack of fat also makes the product less tasty and the texture less appealing. Therefore, manufacturers add fillers and sugar to boost the taste and texture. Low-fat products are also often high in refined carbohydrates, and that won’t help your waistline. In fact, refined carbohydrates cause insulin spikes that make it easier to gain weight and harder to lose it. Fat, because it slows gastric emptying, also has a satiety factor that make it more satisfying. Therefore, you might feel less satisfied and eat more if a food lacks fat.
Better Option:
Skip the packaged, low-fat products and eat more whole foods in their unaltered state. Choose healthy fat sources, like nuts, seeds, avocado, and wild-caught fish. Reduce the amount of sugar in your diet instead and don’t be fat-phobic.
Bad Weight Loss Tip #2: Exercise and You Won’t Have to Watch Your Diet
Exercise is an ally when it comes to weight control, as it helps prevent weight regain and it helps preserve muscle when you’re dieting. Yet studies show that exercise alone isn’t the best tool for losing weight and even the most consistent exercise plan by itself won’t lead to significant weight loss. One reason exercise alone falls short is because people tend to overestimate the calories they burn during a workout and eat more because they believe they burned off “X” calories. Plus, studies show exercise can have varying effects on appetite. Some types of exercise may increase appetite, for example, swimming.
Better Option:
Watch what you eat and be more active. Exercise will improve your health and body composition but it’s not a license to overindulge. You still need to make smart dietary selections. Be sure you have a balanced workout program too. Aerobic exercise burns more calories, but resistance training builds metabolically active muscle and that helps with weight control long term.
Bad Weight Loss Tip #3: Count Calories Obsessively
Obsessive calorie counting can do more harm than good. In fact, tracking calories can trigger eating disorders for some people. If you focus too much on calories over nutrients, you run the risk of nutritional deficiencies. Food is more than just energy in the form of calories. It’s also a source of vitamins and minerals your body needs to function its best. Food isn’t something to fear, but calorie counting can make it seem like it is. The composition of the calories you take in can have differing effects on hormones that control hunger and metabolism. For example, eating 300 calories of broccoli impacts your body and body weight differently than 300 calories of brownies.
Better Option:
Rather than eating less, focus on making what you eat high quality and nutrient-rich. Choose more nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables and lean protein sources. Skip sugar and refined carbohydrates that offer your body little in terms of nutrition and make what you eat count!
