But if the 52-year old looked sober and sullen walking out of court a year ago, he had every reason to be. As part of the sprawling federal investigation nicknamed Operation Varsity Blues, which led to charges against celebrities like Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, Zangrillo had just been charged with mail fraud. Zangrillo’s still doing some business for his own company, Dragon Global, though it’s unclear if that work intersects with the interests of Magic City. Jeff Schneider of Levine Kellogg Lehman Schneider + Grossman, who has acted as a receiver in other FTC cases and is not involved in the OnPoint Global case, said it is significant that the FTC brought the charges against someone as high-profile as Zangrillo.

“It is surprising to take on so much of a public figure,” said Schnieder. “Even tangentially, these cases are generally 25-year-olds operating in boiler room spaces.”

Former OnPoint Global CFO Bob Bellack said that Zangrillo was not involved in the day-to-day decisions at the company and described his role as being dedicated to bringing investors to the company and providing mentorship to employees.

“His role was pretty typical of any VC [venture capitalist] with a company,” said Bellack.

Yet one former employee of OnPoint Global told The Real Deal he would often see Zangrillo around the office and disputes the notion that Zangrillo was not aware of what was going on.

“I saw Bob Zangrillo walking through the offices at least once a week for 52 weeks,” said Ryan Marshall, who worked at OnPoint Global for a year as head of talent acquisition. “He was involved in major decisions … he invested a lot of money into the company.”

Cho said in an interview with The Real Deal that Magic City has no immediate plans to remove OnPoint Global as a tenant and will let the case play out.

On the horizon

At issue right now is how much the college admissions case and the FTC case have hurt Zangrillo and the rest of the development group at Magic City. Miami is rife with developers, investors and brokers who have faced accusations of fraud. It is a city known for giving second chances.

But for now, Zangrillo is backing off. Last month, Avra Jain, developing a $200 million mixed-use project near the Miami River with Zangrillo, said that he was no longer involved in the project.

“Bob Zangrillo was not a managing partner, nor has he been involved in the day-to-day,” Jain said, declining to comment further.

Even when distanced from Magic City, Zangrillo’s troubles could impact the project’s ability to secure permanent financing beyond the loan from Bank OZK.

David Eyzenberg of the commercial real estate investment bank Eyzenberg & Company, who helps arrange financing for real estate projects, said Zangrillo’s legal troubles will make it more difficult for the group to get financing from a traditional bank.

“If you are a traditional lender you are trying to avoid noise. If you have shareholders, you don’t want noise,” said Eyzenberg.

Andrew Ittleman, an attorney with Miami-based Fuerst Ittleman David & Joseph who is an expert on money laundering, said Zangrillo’s criminal and civil charges could also cause the other developer partners to take on personal guarantees for the project.

“There is not another way to put it; it does not make things easier for the borrower,” he said.

Especially in a world facing extreme upheaval in the wake of the novel coronavirus, what is the appetite for lending to an ambitious development like Magic City? Time will tell. But for now, it appears the project is scrubbing its ties to Zangrillo, who is set to face trial in October for the college admission scandal charges.

Based on his Instagram posts, Zangrillo doesn’t seem too concerned.

“Life is about balance,” Zangrillo wrote in an October 2019 post. “Too much money or knowledge may not allow you to see the entire picture of life.”

There is no doubt that while COVID-19 has resulted in huge economic losses to many sectors, there have been some areas which have seen dramatic growth. And one of them was Ed-Tech.

The recently introduced RedSeer and Omidyar Network India believe that the online education offering sector for classes 1-12 alone will increase 6.3 times by the year 2022, touching a figure of $ 1.7 billion. From BYJUs to Unacademy, growing users on platforms and the huge investment these startups receive from investors, clearly illustrates the potential of the online education world.

And that's why this time in TechSamvad Game Changers, we have brought for you to join the Ed-Tech sector of India, such startups are fast growing their feet in this world.

1. ClassMonitor

Launched in March 2016 by Vijeet Pandey and Vikas Rishishwar, ClassMonitor is actually working to provide learning experiences to young pre-school children through Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kits. Through this, parents get the facility to create a great learning base while keeping their children away from TV, mobile etc.

In addition, this platform also serves as a means of communication for parents and teachers. Their learning kits come in four different products for children from 1 to 8 years old. Each box includes over 200 DIY activities, including items such as flashcards, rhymes, stories, fun worksheets, art supplies, and children's game plants, animals, etc.

Along with this all these boxes come with the membership of the ClassMonitor app. This app has AR / VR (virtual reality) feature and a QR code scanner. As such, you can scan the QR code given in every worksheet and see the steps to complete it there.

2. Entri

Entri, founded in 2017 by Mohammed Hisamuddin and Rahul Ramesh, offers people a variety of local languages, mock tests, flashcards and video lectures etc. to prepare them for government and private jobs. It currently offers more than 150 courses for government recruitment exams and upskilling courses in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu Kannada and Hindi.

If the company believes it will touch the figure of 5 million users in 2020 and is aiming for 10 million users in the next 18 months. According to a report, the company has some 3 million users on its platform sometime back, out of which 90,000 are customer pads and it is adding 10,000 new users to its platform every day.

3. Cuemath

Cuemath, founded by Manan Khurma in 2013, operates a Maths-related program for children from Asal KG to Class 10. And offers its services in both home-based centers and online portals. These classes are managed and conducted by trained and certified Cuemath teachers from premier institutions such as IIT and Cambridge University.

In addition, this model helps children to improve in Maths as well as provides home-based career opportunities to educated women and qualified housewives. In fact, these women set up home-based centers to teach the children of the neighborhood, and these centers are run independently, and it is the women who decide the time of the students.

At the same time, Cuemath partners with these teachers and provides students and teachers with the right teaching materials and a Cuemath tablet. Its live online classes are for children between grades seven and ten and include slightly more difficult courses.

4. IndigoLearn

IndigoLearn is a Hyderabad-based accountancy-focused ad-tech startup. This startup uses new technology and animation techniques to make the accountancy course easy and fun. IndigoLearn was founded in 2017 by Sriram Somayajula, Sathya Raghu, Suraj Lakhotia, Sarat Velumuri.

IndigoLearn offers over 200 hours of CA Foundation e-learning modules through its Android app '1FIN'. This makes the study even more interesting by using story-based methods along with film visual effects.

With online notes, answers to online questions, student forums and many such new features, it prepares students for the CA exam. According to the company, it has covered more than 850 hours of great and visual rich content for CA Foundation and CA Inter students.

5. Asmakam

The Indore-based startup was started in 2015 by a mother-daughter duo. Asmakam, started by Archana Gehlot and Maitreyee Gehlot, has developed into a community of like-minded parents who share empathy, resources and experiences with each other.

Asmakam helps parents in building their own learning resources. In addition to connecting them with experts, it also provides a lot of support towards self-led open education for their children.

It also guides parents in things related to lifestyle changes, with the changes coming in the way of teaching and educating children.

It has also made its activities online due to COVID-19. Between Indore and Coronovirus lockdown, the platform reached 400 families across India through a platform webinar, virtual meeting, consultation session.

6. Instasolv

Instasolv is a doute-solution app for students of classes 6 to 12 for science, maths, English, social science, etc. Students can take a photo of their questions and get their answer within few seconds by submitting it in the app. It currently has 7 million questions and answers, and answers about 100,000 questions on a daily basis.

In this app, students of other boards including CBSE, ICSE, UP board can also ask their questions. Along with this, you can also get answers to the questions related to the IIT-JEE and NEET exam here.

The Noida-based startup was founded by Aditya Singhal, Nishant Sinha, and Bahul Arora. Its founders believe that students face a lot of challenge in solving various questions, especially in mathematics and science. It is estimated that Indian students post about one billion problems (dout) on the Internet every day.

7. NoPaperForms

Started in 2017, NoPaperForms works to empower educational institutions by modifying enrollment, etc. in the admission process. This startup decided to step up in this direction in view of the management scattered in educational institutions.

In this direction, the company made the task simple for educational institutions in the country by making the registration process easy and accurate. NoPaperForms processed nearly 20 lakh applications and recorded millions of transactions through its platform as well as saving huge amounts of paper.

This company believes in providing a better user experience to students who are interested in coming to the platform and submitting their applications.

In fact, the company competes with IT firms, which offer ERP solutions for entering multiple stages in an educational institution. But NoPaperForms differs slightly as it covers all stages of entry on a single platform with a set of total services. Naveen Goyal and Suraj Supra are among the people who made this company.

8. ActiPass

ActiPass is the largest aggregator of Extra-Curricular Activity in Vapi. ActiPass allows both children and adults to click on a button to find 30+ activities happening in and around Vapi.

This startup was started by Kunal Shah and Kunal Dedhia with the aim of connecting children with workshops and other activities happening around them. So that he and his parents can easily detect these activities. ActiPass is currently targeting cities such as Vapi, Surat, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune.

9. QuizNext

Bengaluru-based QuizNext is a gamified practice edtech platform that inspires students to practice more using the game element to relieve them from the stress of the exam. This startup offers gaming-based practice sets using AI for students in the K-12 segment.

QuizNext was founded in December 2018 by Guruprasad Holla, Chaiitanyaa Naik, Prasanth T and Sikandar Tamboli. Currently, this startup offers bootstrap as a freemium model and an annual subscription model. Along with gamified practice materials, this startup also offers curated remedial videos, worksheets and test papers.

It is currently focusing on students up to class 6-10 of CBSE and ICSE. But at the same time QuizNext is also trying to establish itself as an After School Activity platform. This will not only reduce the burden of giving homework or test papers to the teachers, but will also keep track of the subjects the student has seen throughout the year.

In addition, the startup is also exploring opportunities to develop as a post-class assessment and feedback tool for teachers by partnering with several leading publishers to make QuizNext available to 4,500+ schools across India. Could.

10. Quizizz

Founded in 2015 by Ankit Gupta and Deepak Joy Cheenath, Quizizz is an edtech platform that uses games and memes in its course to make learning methods more engaging among students. The company has recently recorded 50 million monthly active users globally.

Quizizz facilitates self-assessment for teachers with a class or distance learning program, making it even more interesting by adding elements such as Gamification. Using the platform, teachers can also create their own question answers or choose from quizzes created by other teachers for the course.

Meanwhile the company also claims that it has millions of active teachers on its platform and more than 1.5 billion questions are solved every month by students.

Regardless of how “nebulous” the definition and understanding of cloud computing remains, its march to becoming an ubiquitous part of everyday life is relentless. In fact, chances are you are already using the cloud even if you may not be aware of it. And there is no slowing down of this trend. What is Cloud Computing?

It is important to understand that the cloud is not a new technology in itself. Rather, it’s a new delivery model for existing technologies. In its simplest, cloud refers to storing data on the internet rather than on your own hard drive. Your files may be located anywhere over a network of different computers which is what is called a cloud.

One great example of how cloud computing success is Google Docs. Instead of purchasing, installing and updating say, MS Office or Apple Pages on your computer, you can simply sign up with Google and start using Docs anywhere and anytime you want. You actually do not have the software on your computer, rather you are simply accessing it through the internet on Google’s servers. No need to worry about updating it or missing out on them if you forget your computer at home. It’s all there in the cloud.

Soon enough, many people thought it would be convenient to offer any manner of software and services. Similarly, cloud can not only lessen the cost, but also make it easier for users to interact with said services.

Consequently, we are beginning to see multiple apps move to a cloud based delivery model. SaaS (Software as a Service), IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service), and SECaaS (Security as a Service) are all different versions of the same method of working where different services are offered through the internet.

The technology is already revolutionizing different industries, some more directly than others. Let’s take a look at four industries that will benefit greatly by moving their operations to the cloud…

Automobile

One of the most complex sectors, automobile manufacturers can stand to reap rich dividends by moving to the cloud. Industry 4.0 has revolutionized the car manufacturing systems from design and functions to the servicing of physical components. It also empowers easy management of different business processes, thereupon, reducing the overall cost of manufacturing.

Indeed, many companies are using the cloud to transform their entire supply chain. Even though automotive firms have some of the most advanced manufacturing processes ever conceived, there are still issues that can be potentially solved with the aid of cloud computing.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – Microsoft Corp is investigating the methods partner KPMG uses to crack down on the illegal use of its software in India, after a complaint from a senior member of the country’s ruling political party, documents seen by Reuters showed.

India is one of the U.S. technology firm’s biggest markets in Asia, yet over half of all software installed on computers in the country is unlicensed, advocacy group Business Software Alliance said in 2016.

A pirated compact disc of Microsoft’s Windows 10 can be bought for around $2 in New Delhi, compared with $130 needed to buy the operating system from Microsoft’s online portal.

To ensure compliance, Microsoft runs a global “software asset management” (SAM) program under which it partners global consultants, such as KPMG in India, which seek permission from business owners to check for the use of unlicensed software.

Last month, Vinit Goenka, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and technology adviser to the government, complained to both companies that a KPMG employee “barged in” to his Mumbai recruitment firm without an appointment to check its software, according to emails reviewed by Reuters.

Rajiv Sodhi, a senior Microsoft India executive, told Goenka in a March 20 email that the company was looking at the issue with “utmost seriousness”.

“We are also getting an assessment agency to carry out an audit of the process delivery at KPMG to identify and correct gaps, if any,” Sodhi wrote in the email reviewed by Reuters.

Sodhi did not respond to a request for comment.

Microsoft told Reuters its SAM program is run as per global standards, while KPMG said it follows “appropriate procedures agreed in our engagement with clients”. Both declined to comment on the alleged incident and probe.

The employee, who identified himself in the emails as Srijesh, declined to comment.

Goenka confirmed the incident and complaint, telling Reuters the handful of computers at his company, Ratein Infotech, used genuine software. He said he planned to file a police complaint against both companies.

Ratein Infotech last month received a letter from the U.S. software firm saying it needed help in “interpreting licensing policies of Microsoft”, the emails showed. The issue escalated when the KPMG employee entered Ratien’s office on March 15.

Microsoft and KPMG apologized and the employee, Srijesh, resigned, the e-mails showed.

“This is part of my regular job, that I do on a daily basis as directed by KPMG and Microsoft,” Srijesh wrote in an apology email to Goenka, seen by Reuters.

Goenka is a former employee of International Business Machines Corp and advises government committees on information technology initiatives.

Thanks to a new, anonymous live chat system, young drug abusers can seek out help and advice. A report by The New Paper reveals that the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association launched the online portal on March 24, 2017, opening up yet another way for adolescents using drugs to gain information and support.

Targeting At-Risk Youth in Singapore

Last year, two-thirds of the drug abusers arrested by police were under 30 years old. According to the Central Narcotics Bureau of Singapore, the majority of drug abusers are between the ages of 20 and 29. Around 99 percent of these young users who are arrested have used cannabis, heroin, methamphetamines, or all three.

Creating a Path to Find Help

The new online chat service for drug abusers is staffed by 15 volunteer para-counsellors with backgrounds in social work or psychology, as well as two professional counsellors. The volunteers open the live chat feature from Mondays to Saturdays, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

If young people need to reach a counsellor after hours, they can send an email to [email protected] to ask questions. Within 24 hours, they will receive a response from a counsellor with the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA).

The portal holds other resources, including e-learning links with more information about the realities and dangers of drug abuse. Visitors to the portal can access these links and resources at any time.

Using the Power of Social Media

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) is also pioneering a new programme aimed to discourage drug abuse. This initiative recruits influencers on social media and partners with them to broadcast anti-drug messages among at-risk young people.

Battling the Pro-Drug Messages

When the new portal began operations, Senior Minister of State Desmond Lee added a warning to his launch speech. “As a backdrop to these local developments, it is worth reminding ourselves there is an active push by many groups internationally to legalise, commercialise and market the recreational use of drugs,” he said. “We also see a lot of half-truths or falsehoods about drug use circulating online on social media. The launch of SANA’s new brand identity is therefore quite timely.”

In association with the opening of the portal, SANA also unveiled its refreshed logo, a brand change designed to improve its level of engagement with ex-abusers and young people at risk of drug abuse.

In case of Baluchistan these ratios are worse than the said figures. Talking of Baluchistan, 11 million kids died before reaching the age of five. Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is alarming with 785/100,000 live births while Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is 97/1000 live births. In rural areas of Baluchistan health services are at lower ebb and the state of hospitals, RHCs, BHUs are never encouraging as Health Management Information System backs this statement. due to unavailability of systems, mechanism information, data and open data the health sector are facing complaints from the stakeholders including the donor agencies that some EPI managers and DHOs were found compiling and submitting fake agenda on health condition in their respective district, fake data would affect future of our children as it damaged efforts being put for routine immunization in Baluchistan. The other hand due to unavailability of data health sector of Baluchistan are facing several problems including monitoring, tracking, evaluation, tracing, policy, planning and diseases controlling, prevention and care. The Beatles: An (Abbey) Road to Success

Intro

As any generic pop-rock fan will tell you, The Beatles had no shortage of success in their performing career. Despite starting from meager beginnings, the band revolutionized 1960’s rock and roll and left their mark on music history for decades to come. Every album or single they released was met with overwhelming popularity in both the UK and the United States. Even now in the present day, it’s hard to come by anyone who is unfamiliar with this iconic group or someone who doesn’t recognize the melodious tone of “Here Come’s the Sun” or “Come Together.” Despite wide-spread acclaim and popularity, some critics were skeptical about the band’s success and how they achieved it. Did they deserve all the fame and popularity that they received? Did they just get lucky and happen upon a record deal that pushed them over the top? Or were they a unique set of marvelously talented individuals that joined forces to create one of the greatest bands of all times?

In the beginning

The origin of The Beatles can be traced back to 1957 in Liverpool, England, when John Lennon jump-started his own band called, “The Quarry Men.” As the group toured and played in local gigs around Liverpool, they attracted the attention of a young singer/songwriter named Paul McCartney. Months later, McCartney joined the group as the lead vocalist, effectively starting the dynamic Lennon-McCartney duo that would produce wildly famous songs in the years to come. A few months passed and Lennon found another recruit by the name of George Harrison who later joined the band and became the group’s lead guitarist at the impressionable age of fourteen. In accordance with all of these changes and new additions to the group, Lennon believed it appropriate to ditch “The Quarry Men” title and conjure up a new name for the band. Eventually, he decided on “The Beatles,” playing on the same insect reference as “The Crickets,” another popular rock band at the time.

As the crowds grew and shows moved to larger venues, The Beatles caught the attention of Brian Epstein, a record store owner in Liverpool. Epstein loved the charismatic, witty and talented group and subsequently secured them an audition with George Martin at Parlophone Records. Martin saw the immense potential in the young band and suggested one change-- that they replace their drummer, Pete Best. The fame-hungry Beatles followed suit and replaced Best with Richard Starkey, who’s more commonly known as Ringo Starr, effectively solidifying the rock group and securing them a major record deal with Parlophone Records. Like most up-and-coming bands, fame and stardom cannot be achieved overnight, it was a long road to success with various obstacles along the way, but once they did finally “make it,” they made it big.

Road to Success

In September 1962, The Beatles released their first single, “Love Me Do.” It was met with mediocre popularity in the UK, making it only to 17th on the top-hits chart. Shortly after, in March of 1963, the band released their first album entitles, “Please Please Me.” Despite their overwhelming talent in the music industry, The Beatles also expanded into other forms of entertainment such as film. With the help of producer Walter Shenson, The Beatles starred in a black-and-white documentary film entitled, “A Hard Day’s Night.” The movie grew to be so successful that they made another later called, “Help!” These releases brought on wild popularity with rock fans in the UK, but it wasn’t until they made an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in America that they really began to take the world by storm. Just two years after signing their record label, The Beatles occupied the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100, a feat so impressive that it has never been done again. The Beatles played during a time when turmoil and tension dominated the world’s politics, and much of the music they released was a response to this world climate.

Imagine

John Lennon’s “Imagine” has been sung by artists worldwide as a beacon for peace and love during times or strife and turmoil. When listening to the lyrics, you can glean Lennon’s over-arching theme and call to action to create a world with less violence and fighting. He also denounces organized institutions and criticizes materialistic aspirations. Even though the song harbors some extremely radical and polarizing ideas, it was met with overwhelming popularity and continues to be sung and spread throughout today’s modern culture. One astounding aspect of this song, in my opinion, is how it remains to be such a relatable message, even 40 years after it was written. Despite efforts towards a united world of peace and prosperity to all, we still have wide-spread hate, oppression and undue violence in many countries. I think if John Lennon were still alive he would be appalled and distraught over the amount negativity and hatred that continues to plague the lives of everyday individuals.

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

In a time period known for sex, drugs, and rock and roll, it is no surprise that The Beatles began experimenting with various drugs and hallucinogens that were all the rage during the 60s and 70s. In 1967 John Lennon wrote the song “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,” and included it in their album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” The song sprung from inspiration that Lennon found in his son’s nursery school drawing that he called Lucy—in the sky with diamonds. Although created from naïve origins, some believe the song alludes to a much more mature subject. Shortly after being released, rumors began circulating that the song is about LSD, given the similarity in title’s letters to the name of this hallucinogenic drug. When confronted about the connection, John Lennon denied that there was any relation between the song and the drug. He insisted that the similarity was merely a coincidence and that he never noticed the connection until someone pointed it out to him. Instead, he claims to have created the lyrics based off of the story Alice in Wonderland along with his son’s drawing. Paul McCartney stood by Lennon’s story and raised an interesting point when asked about the correlation during a BBC radio interview, he stated, “It wasn't about LSD. Because otherwise it would have been called 'LITSWD.' Because the initials aren't LSD.” Now that’s not to say that The Beatles withstood from drugs and other mind-altering substances during their time as rock stars. In fact, Paul McCartney openly admitted to taking LSD and other drugs when confronted about it in two separate interviews given in the same month as the song’s release. Was the band secretly in on a cover-up to mask the song’s allusion to this drug? Or were they telling the truth and the similarity was simply a mere coincidence? Listen and decide for yourself.

The Downfall

Despite a wildly successful career, the members of the band began to grow apart in 1969. Personal differences began to pit members against one and another, and their music suffered consequently. However, they did agree on one thing—they had to go out with a bang. That bang would later take form in their last album, entitled “Abbey Road,” which was released in the fall of 1969. The four musicians eventually went their separate ways in the years following “Abbey Road.” John Lennon continued to write and produce music on his own, the most famous of which being his song “Imagine.” He also took on a political activist role alongside his wife, Yoko Ono. Unfortunately, Lennon’s story ends in tragedy when he was murdered by gunshot outside of his Manhattan apartment. George Harrison also continued with his love and passion for music post-Beatles and released various singles and albums in the years leading up to his death by way of suicide in November of 2001. Paul McCartney is still alive to this day and continues his love and appreciation for music, just on a smaller scale. Ringo tried his hand at a solo career but eventually learned he would never again live up to the success and fame that he had achieved during his time with The Beatles.

Conclusion

Even though The Beatles have not produced any new music for over 40 years, their songs continue to influence and shape modern rock and roll. They acted as a measure of success for bands following them, as new groups formed and sought after the same stardom and fame that The Beatles had at their peak. But alas, in my opinion, no band has been able to reach the same level of success or impact the music industry and culture on a scale comparable to that of The Beatles. They were an unmatched group of artists that claimed to be bigger that Jesus Christ and the genre of rock and roll as a whole. During their career, the group sold over a billion records and occupied the Number One spot on record charts in 35 different countries. Such unparalleled success does not come to just any compilation of musicians. They didn’t get lucky or happen to be in the right place at the right time. They were a group of individual talent that came together to create something so amazing and powerful that they are still relevant today. Their music touched the lives of millions and redefined the music industry in such an immense way that quite possibly might not ever be duplicated by bands to come.
