What Minecraft Servers Consultants Don't Need You To Know
If you want fantasy, enjoys walking through your favorite Tv present or movie, then servers have bought you covered. On a console seemingly filled with intense, time-consuming video games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Shovel Knight, Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Version looks like a breath of contemporary air. I’ve never been happier to be fallacious; Minecraft for the Nintendo Change could just be the perfect console expertise that builders 4J Studios and Mojang have to supply. Read our Nintendo Labo assessment. As GSLIST.NET , going into this review I assumed there was little new to be seen in, and even much less to be said about, the most recent model of this international phenomenon. Information of code is required, however do not let that scare you off, as Microsoft attests even novices needs to be able to jump in, they usually're excited to see what everyone comes up with. See in the event you like it. Player skins, like useful resource packs, are additionally accessible to buy as DLC bundles for an affordable price, though it needs to be noted that some bundles, are strangely absent from the Change model of the sport, despite appearing on all different platforms.
Hopefully, this is one thing that will probably be remedied in future updates, because I really need the facility Rangers pores and skin pack that was launched on different platforms earlier this year. Minecraft: Story Mode will mix new characters with acquainted Minecraft elements, nevertheless it won't dwell on the small print or deal with an official story for Steve, one in all the sport's default character skins. Coupled with the flexibility to undock and take it on the go with out having to undergo finicky touch-display controls, this might simply be the perfect version of Minecraft on the market, and it's undoubtedly among the best games currently available on the Switch. However not at all times. "If you're a certain judge, you may say, 'Nice! Let's do it,'" he added. Regardless of how you play it, it appears just as great as any other model of Minecraft in the marketplace. Then click on on PLAY DEMO WORLD. Cell is an excessive design exercise in this vein: a game created from a world wherein each speck of colour has sport-state and is interactive. The free to play on-line MMO phenomenon Roblox is unique in that it is not exactly a sport, but a recreation platform.
Along with your Mojang account, you possibly can log in and play Minecraft throughout a variety of platforms, resembling XBOX, Pc, cell units, Oculus, more. Presently, there are versions for Laptop, cellular units and game consoles. How do i get minecraft: Alternatively, you can even use the bedrock version of minecraft to download the sport without cost in your windows pc. The net solution is the one you possibly can depend on whenever you want to get along with customers you haven't even met and may be very unlikely you will meet in real life. Those that played the Wii U model of the sport can be completely satisfied to be taught that the utmost world dimension is considerably bigger within the Switch model. Describing all of the options and peculiarities of the sport world is a protracted, lengthy story. One thing that surprises me is that the sport has been touted as having "effectively-built AI," when the truth is it has no AI.
One thing unique to Nintendo’s iterations of Minecraft, first showing on the Wii U and conveniently bundled on the Swap, is the Tremendous Mario Mashup Pack, one in all many useful resource packs out there in the sport. And top-of-the-line ways to learn is when you are having enjoyable. One space the place efficiency is lower than optimal, nevertheless, is in the net multiplayer mini sport modes. Common blocky sandbox game Minecraft is closing in on fifty four million copies offered across all platforms, says Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also added via Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) variations of the game have now surpassed gross sales of the Computer and Mac versions. Whether or not you are here for Minecraft or Dedicated Solutions our experienced technicians are right here to assist.Despite the overwhelming computing traffic situations which are now viewed as essential to the community infrastructure, Axelaris hosting guarantees a 100 Mbps Bandwidth with a limiteless Traffic, as such any connection downside is restricted. This has led to the rise in internet hosting Minecraft servers. How you can download minecraft totally free on computer full information. The best way to get minecraft full model at no cost pc 2020 (new technique) what's up everyone!

[CN] Company Upgrade Dates (Eng Translation)
🍒This post contains detailed spoilers for dates unreleased in English servers!🍒
I accidentally skipped the first set of Season 2 dates, the “Company Upgrade” Collection, thinking they were just Rumours & Secrets:
Tumblr media
These dates are important as a starting point for future S2 dates! They are mostly in bullet-point form, but all plot points and important dialogue are covered ❤️
⚡️ Shaw’s Way Home Date (归路之约) ⚡️
MC arrives at Loveland City airport after a business trip and receives a text from Shaw stating that he’d be picking her up
(even though she didn’t give him any details of her flight)
He appears, in all his glory, on a skateboard
Tumblr media
Shaw picks up her luggage and also shows genuine concern for her work and how tired she looks
MC: I can carry it myself.
As soon as I stretch out my hand, Shaw spins the luggage around in a circle so I can’t reach it.
Shaw: If you carry it yourself, I wouldn’t have any purpose for coming here.
DELICIOUS BANTER
MC: Oh right, why did you think of picking me up?
Shaw: It was along on the way. Or I did it on a whim. Whatever reason you like.
MC: ...
Even after a week of not seeing him, this brat’s words are still as annoying.
MORE DELICIOUS BANTER
MC: Don’t you have class in the afternoon today?
Shaw: There’s class, but I skipped it.
MC: It’s not good to skip classes.
Shaw: It isn’t good, so I informed the teacher beforehand.
MC: Eh? What did you say?
Shaw: I said that I hadn’t seen my girlfriend in a month, so I want to pick her up.
MC: What...!?
Hearing this, my heartbeat goes into a frenzy.
Shaw: You really believed me?
Shaw asks MC to cook him dinner as thanks for travelling the great distance to pick her up
They return home by subway, but it’s incredibly packed
Shaw pulls her to a corner
My back leans against the wall of the train carriage. Standing in front of me, Shaw places a hand on the wall beside me, separate me from the crowd.
MC: What are you doing?
Shaw: Can’t you see?
He lifts his other hand and places it onto the wall of the train carriage, encircling me with this pose, which is reminiscent of a hug. He creates an empty corner in the crowded train.
She falls asleep, and he holds onto her shoulders so she doesn’t sway
Shaw: Hey. We’re going to miss the stop. If you don’t wake up soon, I’ll have to carry you back.
MC: !!
After they leave the train:
MC: I didn’t think I’d actually fall asleep.
I turn and sneak a glance at Shaw’s side profile. He senses my gaze and meets my eyes.
Shaw: Not only that. You even drooled.
MC: N-no way...
I hurriedly look at his shoulders, but can’t see any traces of dampness. I let out a huge sigh of relief.
MC: Is it very fun to lie to me?
Shaw: It’s your fault for having such interesting reactions.
At home, Shaw wolfs down her cooking. It turns out he was busy and didn’t have lunch T^T
He even helps tidy and wash the dishes for her
Afterwards, she finds him in the balcony and asks what he has been busy with
Shaw brushes them off as “unimportant things”
MC suddenly says she wants to hear him play the bass
Shaw re-enters the house and brings out an erhu instead (since MC doesn’t have a bass)
Shaw makes the erhu play her name and a “you are stupid”
MC: Why are you scolding me?
I suddenly feel a little gloomy, but he continues playing a few notes. Even though my mind hasn’t figured it out yet, my heart beat speeds up.
Shaw: Do you understand?
Shaw puts down the musical instrument and crosses the handrail over to me.
The dim light from behind the curtains is reflected in his eyes, as though filled with unwavering momentum.
Shaw: You have a really slow reaction.
Accompanying his ridicule, what enters my ears is the rumble of thunder from the clear sky.
Shaw straightens up, and his corners of his mouth hook upwards.
Shaw: It’s going to rain.

🌻 Kiro’s Show Date (戏中之约) 🌻
This date basically shows how MC and Kiro share a very light-hearted relationship, where he likes teasing her
MC is at the scene of Kiro’s filming location, and comments on how realistic the effects are
Kiro is filming a gunfight, and the atmosphere is very tense
The famous Kiro Pointing A Gun At Himself™ scene occurs as part of the filming
Tumblr media
Kiro: Since we can only pick between one of us, take my life, and you’ll be safe. It’s nothing worth being surprised over. There’s only one person who I’m willing to exchange my life for. So, tell me your answer.
There is mockery and paranoia in his eyes, but not a trace of fear.
It’s as though he already knows the other party’s choice... even if his bet is wrong, he will continue enjoying this game.
Even if death is what awaits him at the end.
Director: OK, cut!
Kiro’s seamless performance garners applause from the audience
After that, Kiro and MC head to an open air restaurant
Kiro what choice MC would make if she were the protagonist of the show and one of them has to die
MC: I’ll change the script, so the both of us can live.
Kiro keeps teasing her e.g. eating her half-eaten biscuit
She suddenly hears a loud sound, and she grabs Kiro’s hand
There are a series of explosions below as part of the special effects from the filming site
Kiro: Even though almost everything you saw today was artificial, you can remember the me of right now. The me in front of you is the real me.
I turn back to Kiro, who looks at me at the same time. His fingers are on the back of my hand. The temperature and touch are extremely real.
And the memories belonging to us will always remain in this real moment.

🌹 Victor’s Secret Date (隐秘之约) 🌹
MC wakes up and finds herself in an unknown underground facility. From the unknown voices in the beginning, it’s clear she wasn’t the target of the kidnap
Victor is with her too, and they briefly go through what happened beforehand: MC and Victor were on their way to the carpark at around 7pm after going through a report
The doors aren’t locked, and they aren’t tied up
Victor: I’ll give you five minutes to adjust your state of mind.
His sentence, which came out of nowhere, startles me slightly.
Looking at his expressionless face, I suddenly realise something and laugh.
Victor: What are you laughing at?
MC: Are you... concerned about me?
Victor: ...instead of asking unrelated questions, spend your time on something useful. You still have 4 minutes and 8 seconds.
Victor gets her to check the area right outside the door. When she returns, Victor tells her to stay close to him, and grabs on to her
He reveals that he can no longer see
Despite his temporary blindness, he’s very calm
He speculates that the reason why they’re here is to keep Victor away from an auction taking place the day after they got kidnapped (which is the present moment)
Victor hands her his cuffs, which are actually electronic transceivers
MC: Boss, actually... you can give me a direct order to bring you out of here. This place looks like an abandoned experiment site, so...
I leave the remaining speculations in my heart. The people who threw us here... did they do it just to prevent Victor from participating in the auction?
We’re surrounded by darkness. I hold the electronic transceiver to find the exit.
Victor follows behind me, sometimes pointing out the correct direction.
MC: Victor, are you sure you really can’t see? Is this just a test for me...
Victor: ...you’re the one who is testing me. Do you want to get hit and become even more stupid?
He gently pulls me to his side, preventing me from turning around and hitting the wall in front.
Victor: After walking for such a long time, you still don’t know the approximate distance?
MC: Right now, I think you might be able to make it in time for the auction.
Victor: Being optimistic is good, but...
Suddenly, they hear someone walking around and shouting extremely loudly
Victor uses his palms to cover MC’s ears <3
MC musters her courage, stops herself from trembling, and finds a place for them to hide
Right now, there’s no time to figure out who this person is. No matter what, I can’t let Victor get hurt here.
I promised him once before.
The sound of the footsteps eventually disappear
MC: You weren’t worried that I’d accidentally bring us to that insane person?
Pulling Victor into a dark corner, I do my best to adjust my breathing, and force my voice not to tremble.
Victor: Since I said that I’d trust you, I wouldn’t doubt you.
Victor guesses that the people who brought them here aren’t out for their lives, or they wouldn’t be allowed to roam freely
MC then wonders why they had to blind Victor, and points out that the man just now seemed deranged. She guesses that it’s a result of simply being in the underground facility. Someone wanted him to know about the existence of the facility, but not give further details
MC: I have a question, but I’m not sure if I should bring it up.
Victor: There will be Arab merchants bringing new reagents to the auction. They contain certain special elements.
MC: I haven’t even asked.
Victor: Was my answer wrong?
I smile secretly, lowering my eyes to look at our overlapping hands.
MC: You answered wrongly. I wanted to say that even the dignified CEO of LFG can get kidnapped in such a confusing manner, and even get his eyes hurt.
Victor: If you want to obtain a precious prey, you need to prepare a cherished bait.
MC: Could it be...
Victor: That auction is also a bait.
At 7pm, there’s a signal from the electronic transceiver, and they leave the underground facility
Security reaches the scene, and Goldman comes rushing over
Victor sends a few men to the facility to investigate
Victor asks MC to follow him, and it’s clear that he doesn’t want anyone to know of his temporary blindness
MC watches as Victor successfully clips on his seatbelt:
Victor: I’m able to feel it.
MC: ...I wasn’t looking at you!
MC wonders where they’re heading to since they’re late for the auction. Victor tells her that they’re going to a winery
When she looks at the rearview mirror, she sees that the place they were at has caught on fire
MC: Did you already sense that something was amiss with the auction?
Victor: Mm. That Arab merchant is just a guise. Behind him is a private arms organisation. They used the Arab merchant just to gauge the interest level for their reagent.
MC: Didn’t you say it was an auction you needed to attend?
Victor: They just wanted to ensure good faith.
MC: And there’s no need now?
Victor: Now, there is a different way to show my sincerity.
Once they reach the winery, Victor hands MC a gun
Victor: Can I continue trusting you?
MC: You have no other choice.
Tumblr media
In the winery, the merchant tries to push the reagent to Victor
Merchant: Does CEO Victor have doubts regarding the efficacy of the medicine? It has already gone through tests, and it can...
Victor: I need to doubt medicine that causes mental breakdowns when injected?
Merchant: ...
Victor: I’m not interested in your medicine. The thing I want is your newly mined ore field. All of it. I don’t need technical staff.
Merchant: CEO Victor’s transaction seems to be overly greedy.
Victor: I’ve said it before - I’m uninterested in your defective products. Apart from LFG, no other company can meet your capital needs.
Merchant: Aren’t you being too confident? The world is pretty big. Maybe the STF can give us similar support.
Victor: In that case, you better ensure your safety and leave Loveland City before obtaining their support. One thing LFG doesn’t lack is business partners. Meeting you personally is enough to express my sincerity.
The transaction is completed
They head to LFG, and Victor tells her to drive back
BRACE YOURSELF FOR A CUTE SCENE:
MC: Victor, I’ll send you upstairs.
Victor: No need.
MC: Your eyes...
Victor: I’ll handle it, don’t worry. You did very well today. I owe you a favour.
Victor doesn’t give me a chance to respond. He opens the car door and heads towards the main entrance of LFG.
I release a secret sigh and hastily leave the car to walk to his side.
MC: That’s the side entrance. The side entrance of LFG doesn’t open at night.
Victor: ...do you know LFG better than I do?
Switching his direction, he walks confidently towards the railing near the main entrance.
I hurriedly grab onto his sleeve in order to make this brave man stop.
The night has softened his cold edges. His shoulders are straight. Ever since what happened with his eyes, he hasn’t uttered a single word of frustration.
Perhaps he’d never say such words.
Sensing my quietness, Victor lets out a soft sigh. He turns his head slightly, then closes his eyes in resignation.
Victor: Since you want to be responsible, take responsibility till the end. Before my day lights up, don’t think of leaving.

🦋 Lucien’s Bondage Date (束缚之约) 🦋
MC receives a call from the newest member of Black Swan. He proudly proclaims that he has caught a “big fish” who has agreed to provide important information only if MC personally goes to the interrogation room
She receives a photo of the “big fish” - it’s Lucien.
And she knows something is amiss because Lucien isn’t someone who would get caught so easily
When she reaches the interrogation room, Lucien is tied up and injured
Even so...
Tumblr media
His smile and posture are not those of a caged prisoner. Instead, it’s as though he’s waiting in the dark for his prey to enter a trap...
A successful hunter.
Lucien: What’s wrong? You’re not happy to see me like this? Just now, someone mentioned that... I’m a surprise prepared for you.
I clench my teeth hard, and exert more strength as I grip the iron cage.
MC: ...are you okay?
Lucien: Are you showing concern for me?
MC: I just want to know what exactly you’re planning.
Lucien: I don’t quite understand Miss MC’s meaning. Shouldn’t you tell me what you’re planing to do with me, since you were the one who made me like this?
MC: You...
MC clarifies that she didn’t know Lucien would be brought here
Lucien keeps toying with her so she snaps
MC: Professor Lucien, I think you can clearly see the situation before you. Right now, you are a “guest” invited by Black Swan. If you want to get out, you have to prove your worth. If you don’t give us something of equivalent value, we won’t let you leave.
Lucien: Equivalent value... you make sense. In that case, what do you want then? Perhaps with more specific questions, I can give you more satisfactory answers.
MC: ...I’m not a student who’s asking you questions!
Lucien: My student would never be so fierce towards me. I’m already like this, and you still don’t believe my sincerity? I’ve thought of a piece of secret information you may be interested in. This matter involves Black Swan and core members of the STF, and it’s a secret I’ve been keeping.
MC: Lucien, are you being serious?
Lucien: It would be revealed sooner of later. Knowing it earlier could be of some help to you. If you want to know, come closer to me.
I freeze involuntarily, casting a glance at the single-sided glass separating us from the surveillance room.
Lucien: As a representative of Black Swan, shouldn’t you show me some good faith if you want the information?
She goes closer to him, but he keeps toying with her e.g. telling her that he’s cold so she should come closer to warm him up. Finally, he speaks.
Lucien: Actually, I have an arrangement with someone in Black Swan.
MC: What you mean by “arrangement”? An agent you planted?
Lucien: If you put it that way, I can't deny it. A person I planned on bringing along with me when I left this place. It’s just that back then, the timing wasn’t ripe yet.
MC: After you left, did you remain in contact with the person who kept you informed about the organisation’s internal affairs?
Lucien: Yes.
MC: ...who is it?
I stare at Lucien, my heart beating rapidly. I can’t tell if my emotions can be called anger or something else.
Lucien’s eyes continue to sparkle. He arches the corners of his mouth, as though in a good mood.
That layer of suppressed anger dissipates, and I suddenly realise something.
MC: ...Lucien, don’t speak nonsense.
Lucien: I never lie. You should know that clearly.
MC: You...
Lucien: That person is a female.
MC knows that every word and action is being watched by the people in the surveillance room
Lucien: We’ve known each other for a long time. After leaving the organisation... she has been the one taking the initiative to look for me most of the time.
MC: Nonsense! You’re just-
Lucien: Of course, I miss her a lot. Perhaps there is a tacit understanding between us. Whenever I miss her, she will appear.
MC: But the relationship between the two of you is simply sharing the benefits of exchanging information, am I right?
Lucien: ...is that so? It sounds like there isn’t a relationship at all. Did you know? Sometimes, feelings are part of a beneficial exchange. Many people simply don’t realise it, and lose out in the process. With this thought in mind, perhaps those people are the ultimate winners.
At this point, the STF barges in. Lucien frees himself from the ropes.
Lucien: I wasn’t speaking nonsense. I do have someone I want to take with me.
I feel a tightening on my wrists and I exclaim in surprise. Both my hands have been gently bound in front of me, bringing with it a silky touch.
Lucien: Now, can I take you away?
MC: ...that’s not possible.
I look him in the eyes. In the darkness, the rotating red lights occasionally flash across his face, looking blurry and dangerous.
MC: I’ve said it before. It’s all right if you choose to walk down another path, because I’ll walk the remaining half of this path on your behalf. I’ll prove to you that the decision we made at the beginning was not wrong.
Lucien ...I got it.
At this moment, I seem to understand the true loneliness in this man’s eyes than ever before. At the same time, I feel as though I’m the person he has lied to the most in the world.
Lucien: In that case, sleep for a while...
Realising what he’s about to do, I try to escape.
Lucien’s palm has already covered my eyes, the warmth reminiscent of a cloud which has been under the sun for a long time.
MC: Lucien... you're lying to me again.
Lucien: What?
MC: You...
His voice trembles in my ear. In my hazy state, I don’t know if I said the words in my heart.
He lied so that I would enter this cold iron cell and warm him up.
But his hands are burning hot, as though the temperature had been stored for a long time, reserving it for the lady who has gotten frozen in order to find him.
MC: Lucien, you don’t... feel cold at all, right?
~
When MC awakes, she’s at home. She feels an itch on her wrist and sees rope marks
She receives a notification on her phone telling her that the underground interrogation room has been sealed by the STF, but there aren’t any traces left of what happened yesterday
The interrogation materials have also been wiped
The doorbell rings, and it’s Lucien
MC: Are you Mr Advisor, or Professor Lucien?
Lucien: Right now, I’m just a neighbour who is inviting you for dinner. Will you do me the honour?
MC: Mm... I happen to be a little hungry.
Lucien smiles. When he takes my hand, his eyes fall on the ribbon tied to my wrist.
Lucien: Is this... a new ornament?
...oh no, I forgot to take it off last night.
Looking at his expression, which clearly shows that he knows what’s going on, I nod and pretend nothing happened.
MC: Even I don’t know where it came from. Come to think of it, could it have been you?
I ask Lucien, lifting my head while changing my shoes at the entrance.
He smiles, his warm fingertips gliding across my wrist. He chuckles lightly while unravelling the delicate knot.
Lucien: Next time, I’ll tie it a little more tightly.

💔 Gavin’s Stray Date (迷途之约) 💔
MC is in a hut on a cliff by the sea looking for someone
She spots a familiar figure 👀
She tries to sneak away because she doesn’t want trouble, but the wind lifts her off the ground and brings her over to Gavin
Gavin: Care to explain?
Gavin lifts his head and arches his brows slightly. Both hands are crossed in front of his chest as he watches me hover in the air.
MC: I... was just preparing for a future photoshoot.
While he tries to catch her in a lie, he uses his Evol to gradually make her hover above the ocean...
MC: You... this is against the rules!
Gavin: I’ve always used my own methods to resolve issues.
MC tries to suppress her trembling, and reaches out to maintain her balance. She then realises that the air currents around her are controlled very well to ensure she doesn’t fall - Gavin is just trying to scare her
She calms down and relaxes her posture, even smiling at him
Gavin: [sighs] You’re not afraid?
He closes his eyes and sighs softly, bringing me closer to the cliff. He still doesn’t put me down.
MC: I said it before - I’m not afraid of you. So, you can’t scare me.
Gavin: What relation do you have with that person?
MC: Does STF’s mission have something to do with that person?
Gavin: This has nothing to do with you.
MC: In that case, my answer also has nothing to do with you.
His fingertips tremble and he looks straight at me. I sit on the air current and clench my fists, staring back at him.
MC: Gavin, I also have things I want to use my own methods to resolve. He has taken something he shouldn’t have. I’m not sure about the rest of it, and I don’t want to know.
The strength of the air current gradually becomes weaker. I try to maintain my balance, but Gavin suddenly holds me gently.
With one hand, he grabs my wrist. With the other, he brushes my back so I can stand on the ground steadily.
He must have stood here for a long time - he smells of the ocean breeze.
Gavin takes half a step back. This wordless hug was so brief that it almost feels like a hallucination.
Gavin: He has always been on the STF’s wanted list. For three years.
~
A few days later, MC uses intelligence from the STF to look for the man
Under the cover of the sprinkler system of the hotel, she looks for the USB drive in the man’s room
Gavin suddenly breaks the window and enters the room
The first thing he does is to scan the room for a fire... and only after he sees there isn’t any, he rushes to MC (does this mean he still has a phobia of fire?? 😭)
Just when you think this isn’t painful enough:
After pressing the off button, he casually wipes off the water droplets from his forehead and fringe. When his hair curls up in the air, it actually looks pretty cute.
That strawberry hairband and resigned expression suddenly flash before my eyes.
A curtain of water clouds my vision. I blink repeatedly, forcing myself to focus on the present.
[Note: It’s a reference to Gavin’s Prank Date]
While they talk, they discover that it was neither STF nor MC who set off the fire alarm. The man had escaped with the help of somebody else
Gavin puts a jacket over MC and carries her out of the window
MC asks if they can work together, but Gavin says:
Gavin: That’s not the way I work. The thing you’re looking for is unrelated to Black Swan, so I won’t look into it. But this doesn’t mean it’d be the same next time.
When he reaches the ground, he holds me in his arms and walks to the ambulance, blocking me from the sight of onlookers.
Gavin: She suffered some injuries just now. Bring her to the hospital.
After speaking, he lifts the jacket that’s covering my face, and leans close to my ear.
Gavin: Don’t involve yourself in this matter again.
~
Later, MC leaves the hospital, hugging Gavin’s jacket. She’s at the port.
A few minutes ago, she received a call telling her that the man plans to leave Loveland City through the port that night
It’s also revealed that the man betrayed Black Swan
Suddenly thinking of something, she calls Gavin, who already knows of the man’s plans to leave Loveland City
MC voices her suspicions that the person helping the man isn’t simply helping him escape out of kindness. From her investigations, the man hasn’t kept in contact with anyone after leaving Black Swan three years ago
Gavin says he’d head to the port, but MC says there isn’t enough time
Gavin: I know what you’re thinking. You don’t have to worry about these things. All you have to do is keep yourself safe, and leave the rest of it to me.
MC persuades him to direct her so she can find him quickly, since STF would need some time to arrive
MC: Gavin, you have to trust me. Trust me, all right?
Gavin: You have to promise.
MC: I promise nothing will happen to me, and that I have my ways of protecting myself. And I also trust that you’d give me the correct judgments.
I’m no longer that person who only knows how to let you stand in front of me. This time, I’ll stand beside you, and will not back down.
Tumblr media
MC: Gavin, I’m at the unloading zone.
The lights from the cold machine are reflected in his eyes. Beneath his palm is the entire port.
He forces himself to lean against the chair instead of immediately rushing to the girl’s side.
Gavin: In 50 metres, there are two people at two o'clock. The target is moving towards Area C. There’s no rush. Your speed is faster than him.
MC: That’s a shuttle bus I “borrowed”.
Hearing the girl’s slightly satisfied tone, he can’t help but let out a secret smile.
Gavin: [softly laughs] Turn right.
MC: Did you just laugh...
Gavin: No.
MC: Don’t think you can lie just because I can’t see you.
Gavin: ...
MC: I guessed correctly, right? If it’s you, you’d definitely say something along the lines of “I won’t lie to you”.
Gavin: Didn’t you lie to me in front of the hut?
MC: ...
Gavin: Turn left in front. He’s stopped.
MC: I don’t have a choice sometimes...
The girl sounds as though she’s been wronged. Her voice goes round and round, worming into the tip of his heart, and gently prodding it twice.
Gavin: I...
MC: Gavin! I think I see him!
I hide behind a container secretly, watching as the man looks around furtively, as though waiting for someone.
A red dot appears on his back, and trails upwards.
MC: !!!
I rush forward quickly, throwing two black objects in the direction where the red light came from.
In the dense smoke screen, the man sees that things are amiss, and whips out a detonator from the pocket of his coat.
A massive explosion sounds. I grip the man’s collar tightly, but am held in a warm embrace the very next second.
MC: Gavin?!
Tumblr media
Gavin: Did you really think I’d let you come here alone?
~
Gavin: So this is your way of protecting yours-
Comical ribbons fall lightly on the top of Gavin’s head, hanging in front of his left eye.
His bright amber eyes blink. Gavin turns his head to look at the sky full of coloured ribbons.
A gigantic inflatable man holds a banner with the word “surprise”, and it sways in the wind.
The man freezes in place while holding onto the detonator, looking as though he doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
MC: I knew early on that there’d be something “special” here. How is it? I said I had my ways. Unexpected, right?
Gavin lifts his hand, gently removing the ribbon next to my ear. He fails to suppress a smile.
Gavin: Unexpected. But we’ll talk about this later.
He stands up, looking coldly at the man cowering in the corner.
Gavin: MC, turn around.
MC: Okay...
I listen to Gavin and turn around obediently. The moon hides behind the clouds, as though carrying a sense of pity.
Soon after, Gavin receives news that the sniper has been brought under control.
After explaining how the sniper was caught, Gavin places something on the top of her head - it’s the USB she’s been searching for
MC: Even though I really didn't do anything bad, you’re just giving it to me directly? You don’t need to check it?
Gavin: I’m taking it away if you keep asking.
MC: I won’t ask, I won’t ask.
However, MC has another question - how did Gavin appear at the scene when he should have been in STF’s command room?
Gavin doesn’t give her a straightforward answer
Gavin: I was at the control system, but I could also come here. That’s it.
[And then Papergames cuts me deep by playing Gavin’s S1 bgm out of nowhere...]
At this moment, sirens blare in the distance. The special reinforcements have arrived.
I dig into my bag and realise my car keys are missing.
A bunch of bright keys slide in the air and fall into my palm.
MC: I even thought you’d detain me for an investigation.
Gavin: Aren’t you...
He pauses, and he retracts the words on his lips. After a long time, he speaks slowly.
Gavin: You didn’t do anything bad, right?
Gavin turns his head to the side. The crescent moon hides his eyes in the night.
Tumblr media
Gavin: Didn't you ask me to trust you?
His voice is very light. It’s so light that once the words leave his lips, they are immediately swallowed up by the night wind.
MC: What?
Gavin: You’re still not leaving? Do you really want me to detain you?
I purse my lips at him, then grip the car keys as I run in the direction of the car park Gavin told me about. I suddenly think of something, and turn around.
Tumblr media
MC: Isn’t it very convenient to work with me? If you keep rejecting me, you’ll lose out. I suggest you consider it properly next time.
Gavin: All right, I’ll consider it. The next time you face danger, you don’t need to rush into it alone. It’s quite silly.
MC: You...
Tumblr media
Gavin: You can call my name.
-
Do you know why this hurts so much? Because he’s unintentionally referencing his very first date - the Relieving Date:
Tumblr media
-
Gavin’s call: here
-
🌸 MOMENTS 🌸
Gavin’s Post: Another coincidence?
MC: I even feel like I'm staging it.
Gavin: Having your car break down doesn’t count.
[Note: I translated “staging it” from “碰瓷”, which refers to how some drivers manoeuvre unsuspecting motorists into crashes in order to make false insurance claims.]
-
Gavin’s Post: Another coincidence?
MC: I didn’t think my car would break down outside the STF entrance, causing trouble for you again.
Gavin: It’s okay, it’s no effort at all.
-
Gavin’s Post: Another coincidence?
MC: My engine might have its own ideas... but thank you for your wind in helping me move the car.
Gavin: Ahem, it’s just safer that way.

Managing Data Migration Challenges
Data Migration is a complicated and intricate process that all business needs to take up at some time or the other. Are you planning to upgrade your technical framework? Is that your organization is planning to acquire another company? In either of these instances, it becomes inevitable to take up the data migration process.
Data Migration Services helps a business to handle its growing data pool with optimum efficiency. Consequently, utilize the data so that your organization can use the data most effectively.
Tumblr media
The evolution of modern technologies has made it easier to handle the process. However, the process still stands complicated and intricate. But it never means that an organization can overlook the need to migrate its business data. Companies need to identify the significant challenges in the path to migrate the data.
Subsequently, they should plan possible manners to overcome these issues to streamline the workforce in this regard. Today, companies consider the possibilities in combining various processes and tools that will enable them to execute the migration process with optimum efficiency.
What are the significant challenges in the path of data migration?
You will not help much if you go complaining about the challenges associated with Data Migration. Instead, you need to identify the significant challenges that usually emerges in the path to migrate data.
Once you identify the significant challenges, you can plan the suitable measures that will enable you to escape these threats. What makes the migration of unstructured data a highly challenging assignment? In the experts' opinion, the following are the major threats and challenges that a data migration team usually experiences:
Access: while dealing with unstructured data in file formats, it tends to refer to the physical location. It becomes tough to explore the physical aspects like the Server DNS Names, IP addresses, and the Hard-coded servers.
Standards: the majority of the NAS Platforms display some discrepancies towards the standards in naming a file. Likewise, issues come up with the compatibility of the file formats
Security: as there are different security models for NFS and SMB, users will likely experience variation in implementing user groups across a framework. TO ensure that the migration process goes successfully, you need to plan suitable actions to combat the chances of data loss.
Besides the technical challenges stated above, the migration process involves various operational challenges as well. In the majority instances, it becomes almost impossible to identify the data owner. AS different teams keep sharing files over time, the data's actual origination point becomes nearly impossible to track.
With time, Object stores and files become data dumping grounds, and a significant chunk of content will lay unused. It makes it almost impossible to re-organize the most relevant and crucial data on time without impacting the usual business process.
Hence, before starting the migration process, you must prepare a suitable strategy that will enable you to escape these threats and make the project successful.
It would help if you made the maximum out of the dropping cost of data storage
Earlier, the usual approach was all about sharing files and content optimization. Though it was time-consuming, it was justified in the fact that storage cost was excessively high.
Thus, no other options were available, especially to the small and startup businesses. But, as the storage cost has dropped down majorly, it is time to balance manual data management practices and modern storage facilities' value. It calls for the considerate and optimized use of the available facilities.
It makes it more economical to explore the cutting-edge data storage mechanism and optimize migrating data to the new data storage framework.
One useful measure to embrace in this regard is uploading the data pool to the public cloud storage. It comes especially suitable to handle such data that you don't use very often.
This way, even the smallest businesses can think about migrating their data. The best thing is that they can do it without the need to burn out their pockets for the hefty expenses involved. AS such, if you are a small organization with limited resources for data migration, it is one worthy trick that you can consider.
Twin Strategy simplifies the usual hassles in Data Migration
IT companies can consider migrating their static data to some more economical storage framework. Alternatively, they may consider shifting their entire data load to cheaper storage sites.
Both these approaches come highly effective in reducing the expenses involved with managing and storing the growing data sets. However, the process of migrating the static content paves the way for lots of challenges.
It consists of the migration of the data sets individually. However, the incorporation of public cloud storage and various Data Migration tools have dropped down significantly.
The Lift-And-Shift Approach is another worthy track to play
Another excellent practice is to move the entire data pool from one location to another. The complete lift and shift of the data pool usually become a more invasive methodology.
The migration process must focus on easy access to the dataset after migrating to the new storage location. Again, it calls for a comprehensive migration strategy and the right tool to streamline the entire course action.
It hardly makes sense to shoulder the challenges in data migration if it becomes harder to access the relevant data later.
Even if Data Migration is a challenging and hectic task, you should not abandon it when it becomes inevitable to migrate the crucial business data. Instead, you need to approach the process with adequate preparation to have all the resources that you might need in addressing the key challenges.
A careful and considerate approach will help you control the expenses. Likewise, it will help take the necessary measures to ensure the migration process's perfection and success. Successful Data Migration will help you better business analytics, helping you earn an edge over your closest competitors.
It’s you time to prepare for a smooth and perfect data migration to suitable storage framework to lessen the hardships in managing the crucial business data.

Concrete Boxes Made of Ticky-Tacky
The Uptake, With Symbiotic Self-Indulgence. Book III, Chapter 9. Go to previous. Go to next. TW: Disaster area navigation. That’s not suspicious at all.
_________________________________
A month after Central Day, Tri-City announced acceptance of the initial wave of returning citizens, public transportation filled to capacity which was dedicated to just the task of easing the displaced out of Manhattan Premier. On the triple-decker bus headed to Level 10, ‘Choly’s wheelchair wedged up close to Cecil’s seat. Albeit grateful to be rid of the impermanence of the Hillock Plaza and its Overflow, none of the bus’s passengers felt any reprieve from the dread of uncertainty ahead.
“There’ll always be another page of billing,” Cecil finally sighed. He glared at the screen in the front of their floor’s cabin, as it looped instructional clips how to proceed upon returning home. He shifted in his seat at ‘Choly’s slowly elongating face. “We’re increasingly tethered, through lack of choices otherwise, to federal aid programs. Billing is the least of my worries. How the rolling sector housing provisional care will pan out is a definite concern. But what we’ve been allotted is all we’ve got at the moment. We don’t even have a ‘who’ or a ‘why’ yet. So we’ve got to make do.”
“It’s a long time before we have to worry about moving,” ‘Choly offered unhelpfully. “Silver linings, that we were federal employees, I suppose. Surely five years’ provisions will be long enough for them to get Central repaired, or even replaced.”
“It’s less that we don’t have to move, and more that we can’t. That’s probably the one thing I’ve signed off on in the past month that I straight up can’t stand the thought of.” Cecil squirmed in place to straighten in his fiberglass seat. “Look. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. It’s all we’ve been discussing for days, between getting packed up and speaking with the FEMA attorneys. I’m going to turn off my ears until we’re at the complex, okay? Try out your new reader’s headset, get used to it. Chill a bit. We both need a chance to unplug from this shit for a moment.”
Cecil put a hand to ‘Choly’s knee, then used his other hand to gesture along the surface of the thetic halo to free the handshake. The faint glowing of the circuitry within the translucent organometallic structure encircling his head went dark, and he slouched back with a slow grunting exhale to stare out the window.
With a pouting nasal snort, ‘Choly pulled the bone conduction headset from his diamond bag, unfolded it, and slipped it on. He had many ways in which he envied Cecil’s survivorship. Here and now, he most envied the feature of his boyfriend’s accommodations which enabled him the ability to unplug from unpleasant discussions. He did wonder if Cecil had any theories as to motive and perpetrator, but despite all the time they’d already had to discuss the Central bombing, Cecil always conveniently found the means to sideline the subject in favor of just about anything else. But this felt nothing like how Cecil had withheld from ‘Choly that the Fulton Mass and the Supermarket Geek had been one in the same, despite vocal interest in both Web sensations. He could chalk up Cecil’s behavior to the traumatic nature of such an experience: Cecil had, after all, survived an explosion which destroyed a majority of the building which housed the city’s largest concentration of servers, networks, and energy sources.
Maybe ‘Choly was being insensitive, forcing Cecil to talk about it any more than he had. It was one thing, to disclose secondhand information about a tragic event, but another entirely to have been directly involved and impacted to the extent as his other half.
So he focused on fidgeting with the new reader. The model nearly felt like a totally different type of technology compared to the reader ‘Choly had had for eight years leading up to Central Day. His last reader had been rooted and customized to his specifications, and he’d had all the settings just as he liked them and hadn’t had to adapt to a new model or interface every four months like the Levelers. This reader had nothing in common with his last one, barring the fact they were both readers. Last time he’d tried to set it up, to his chagrin he’d figured out how to handshake the cube tray wrist loop to the reader storage. It had no mounted cube tray, and he hated it, but he’d just have to deal. He still couldn’t figure out how to pull up the screen’s keyboard, and the Web settings were greyed out where he couldn’t edit them. The notifications reminded him on the regular that the reader’s operating system awaited pending updates. He couldn’t turn off these reminders, either. His jaw tightened.
A hybrid slasher sounded like an easy distraction at first, since he knew they had a long transit ahead of them, but he knew he couldn’t focus on a film in his mental state. As he set his music cubes to shuffle and adjusted the volume of his headset, he realized that the reason he couldn’t access Web settings was because Web in Tri-City had ceased to exist. Can’t pull up specs on a dead network. He swallowed and Cecil let him hold his hand, joining him in watching the cityscape flicker by around them.
He had to look at the time on his reader to be certain of the time of day, because the trichotomy of the rolling blackout made it impossible to tell just by the qualities of the neobrutalist building surfaces. Tesla Incorporated had divided the city into sectors five levels high and roughly one mile square. Primary sectors aligned with the first shift of midnight to eight in the morning, secondary sectors with the second shift of eight to four in the afternoon, and tertiary sectors four to midnight. The city already reflected the effects of the roll. Projected adverts and running lifts animated the active secondary sectors. Charged Wolfram concrete alone illuminated the stretches of yawning primary sectors. And tertiary sectors lay dark and silent, as they had not yet received any returning inhabitants. They’d have to get used to the Tesla employees, vehicles, and equipment now a present and constant sight in Tri-City for the indefinite future. Only emergency vehicles, public transportation, and ShipShop drones shuttled about the thoroughfares.
The denizens of the bus had all come from HP and HP Overflow. ‘Choly got stuck surveying the survivors. He didn’t often feel much camaraderie with strangers, and it dulled him to find himself reflected in the angles of others’ segmented thetic limb prostheses and cosmetic reconstructions, and the haggard fabric of their faces. He wondered if they, too, experienced the sense of this othering unity, like they all belonged to a new class of citizen altogether, when they regarded his wheelchair, and his leg brace. He shook his head of it and assumed no one else would entertain this brand of nonsense.
His eyes lolled in dismissal of his mentality, silently cursing out those living higher than Level 19. How dare they have access to solar energy? He had never really given the upper crust much thought or attention, but in that moment, his sentiment throttled him to tremendous jealousy. The disaster had all but not affected them. Besides the loss of Tri-City specific Web broadcasts, ‘Choly couldn’t think of a single way the Twentisomes didn’t simply go on as they always had.
He sneered. Except those in the Newark Bay area, of course. But somehow, ‘Choly was jealous of those evacuees most of all. They’d been affected by the bombing more than any survivor. Only the block directly adjacent to Central, Levels 5 to 19, had been evacuated until the reactor explosion. FEMA thought they had the nuclear facility under control, only for twenty thousand civilians to get irradiated by four of the nine reactors melting bottom-out. One of the four exploded outright, sending two reactors into the bay with it. The entire Newark Bay would be in a permanent state of phosphorescent excitation until federal employees could seal up the waste fuel and any irradiated debris. Newark Bay survivors would remain under the care of Overflow facilities throughout New Jersey and New York for indefinite supervision and medical care. ‘Choly had been glued to documentation of this nascent exclusion zone, and he endeared it as though some transcendental slurry of ghosts trapped in place for centuries to come.
The bus let out at its next Level 10 stop, this time in Journal Square. Everyone unloading here retrieved their luggage from the under-bus cargo, and besides those who lived on Level 10, they filed out to the public lifts appropriate to their final destination. Tesla operated the lifts with on-site generators dedicated just to this mode of public transportation, already acutely aware of not just the heightened necessity for vertical mobility, but also the varying injuries the returning population had sustained. Almost too graciously, the power company, cooperating with federal emergency agencies, had taken injury and disability accommodations into consideration, and extended all the help they could within the apartment complexes for those who could not simply take the stairs once they were on the right level.
‘Choly removed his headset, and Cecil turned his halo back on. Cecil pulled a piece rolling luggage behind them and put the smaller piece in ‘Choly’s lap, and pushed ‘Choly along inside the public lift. Once the lift was to its five hundred occupant capacity, the Tesla worker ordered the pocket doors shut and they were on their way to Level 15. Fortunately for the pair, they would exit on Level 12 about fifteen minutes later.
The facade of their apartment complex crawled with advertisements for ShipShop’s new drone program. They filed in with about a hundred of their technical neighbors, and waited in line for the Tesla-operated elevators. Many of those who had the option grew impatient and dragged themselves up the stairwells rather than wait ten at a time. When ‘Choly and Cecil rode, only eight could fit from the wheelchair, and the Tesla employee cited space and weight limits. At the last minute, a heavyset tall blond man in a white bodysuit and a thetic with insectoid quadrupedal limbs squeezed their way into the elevator, its ninth and tenth occupants.
Everyone in line yelled and groaned at him. The pocket doors shut, and the Tesla employee slapped him in the chest. The thetic’s heavily stylized mannequin-like holographic features swiveled around to apologize to the group in the elevator without turning its cylindrical head.
“Did you not just hear me, ShipShop?” the operator snapped. “You of all people should know better than to push capacity.”
“We just got off shift.” He rolled his eyes and slicked back his short sweaty hair. “Gimme a break.”
“Please forgive him, if you could,” the thetic insisted with hesitant posture. It telescoped itself tight up into the back corner of the elevator to occupy the least amount of space possible. “We’ve had a particularly dicey day of it.”
The Tesla employee ignored the pair and addressed the other eight people.
“Floors, everyone?” She instructed the elevator as indicated.
“–Wait.” ‘Choly couldn’t decide whether to stare at the ShipShop employee or the thetic, whose upper half very clearly had once belonged to some manner of public transit autopilot system. “You already got back home? You sure you’re in the right building?”
The blond shoved his gloved hands in his pockets with a matter of fact slouch.
“Never left. ShipShop associates weren’t allowed to evacuate. Ninth floor, by the way.”
The Tesla worker jammed the button a second time for emphasis. ‘Choly and Cecil both flinched that he lived on the same floor.
“That’s sure an interesting customization,” Cecil commented of the thetic, not making eye contact with either. “ShipShop approve that?”
“If you let me help you carry your luggage,” he sleazed, “I’ll tell you all about it.”
‘Choly flipped his sunglasses down and shrank in his chair. Despite obvious body language that ‘Choly disapproved, Cecil nodded and shrugged with a bored frown.
“Yeah. Yeah, sure. Not sure why you’re offering to lug anything after what you said was a particularly awful shift, but I imagine not too many of the neighbors we knew before all this are coming back. Might as well get familiar with our floor mates.”
The ShipShop employee tried to take the handles of the wheelchair to shuttle ‘Choly along, but Cecil shouldered the man away and gave him the luggage. Cecil pushed ‘Choly, and the blond let out a hesitant chuckle as he let the thetic carry both the rolling luggage and the carry-on from ‘Choly’s lap, trawling along on its four long spindly legs.
“A natural redhead, then, I’m presuming,” he grinned as he trailed along behind them.
“You were saying?” Cecil quipped, not looking back.
“Oh! Angel here?” It let out a digital chirp when mentioned, but said nothing. “It was the navigation system of the ShipShop delivery truck I was working on April Fools, but it crashed on the Lincoln Skybridge. ShipShop wanted to scrap it ‘cause they faulted its navigation matrix for the six-car wreck. Funny how I haven’t met a single person who had a good night on the First, right? Anyway, I smuggled it into the taxi that picked me up before crash collection could haul it off. Been working on it all month. It’s given me something to busy myself with, mostly alone here. The legs are a work in progress, but it’s pretty great, right?”
“Gives me the creeps,” ‘Choly blurted out with a sharp saucer-eyed sniff. “Fff. Franken-thetic.”
“Giving him the creeps is a good thing,” Cecil translated wryly. “I’d be lying if I said I weren’t a little impressed.”
“What are those legs even from?” ‘Choly continued, fidgeting.
“That’s my secret.” The blond grinned. “Name’s Jacob, by the way.”
“Cecil. And this is Melancholy.”
“Jus’ ‘Choly’s fine.” They got to Cecil’s door and ‘Choly glanced to Angel. “Hazarding a guess. Those legs are somethin’ salvaged from a yard on Level 2.”
Jacob straightened in place, not blinking for a moment while he processed the theory.
“Now that’s an interesting thing to suppose.” He whet his lips and pressed them together. “I guess I could say you answered one of many questions, by asking one of your own.”
“He’s on the level.” Cecil gestured for Angel to relinquish their luggage. “Though I wonder if you are.”
“What coy dialogue. I was right to help you along to satisfy my curiosity. Is it just the two of you here?”
“Yes– Wish I could say one way or another if it’s been a pleasure.” Cecil shrugged gratefully at the thetic. “Thank you, Angel.”
“Oh, don’t thank me. I was just acting on Jacob’s behalf.”
“I don’t like sayin’ stuff besides what’s meant,” ‘Choly started with a frown. He glanced both ways down the hall. “Why did you follow us? You didn’t just want our impression of your robot.”
“910-B. We’re down at 925-B.” Jacob eyed the apartment door. “You said it yourself, Cecil. What’s the matter with helping a couple of my floor mates get settled back in? We were going the same way.”
“Do let us know if you need a thing, will you?” Angel swiveled behind Jacob to the other side, trying to nudge him along, its features flickering anxiously. “Jacob keeps odd hours, but if we’re present, we’re more than happy to be at your beck.”
“Right. Y’all need help inside?”
“We appreciate the help, but I hope you’ll understand that we’re not inviting you in at the moment.”
“I’ll come borrow a cuppa glow later then.” Jacob kind of hopped in place and gave them a jerking salute with his left hand, his head askew. “I’m gonna go crash.”
“Goodnight,” ‘Choly called out after them jokingly as they walked off without further circumstance. He double-checked the time on his reader. Not quite three in the afternoon yet.
Jacob thoughtfully mumbled Melancholy under his breath, just loud enough to be heard.
Cecil already had the door open before ‘Choly noticed, and shoved him inside to use the wheelchair to prop the door open. He dragged the luggage inside. A good number of lights and appliances were still on. ‘Choly wheeled himself down the hall track to the kitchen, and spaced out in disgust at the thought of what the void of electricity might have wrought of the living space. He realized he was staring at the coffee carafe in particular. Cecil abandoned the luggage in front of his reading chair and joined ‘Choly in the back half of the apartment.
“I don’t like him,” Cecil remarked.
“I do. He’s just weird enough to get stuff. The. The coffee maker.” ‘Choly sniffed, and pushed his sunglasses lenses back up. “That half carafe’s been brewing for a month.”
“I’m not looking forward to investigating the fridge. We’ll deal with that later. Promise me if Jacob or that thetic come to the door, you won’t answer it. –Think it’s stuffy in here, or is it just me?”
“I promise,” ‘Choly echoed dully, registering the remark to the air quality. “Guess the HVAC hasn’t got working full swing quite yet.”
“Hopefully it’ll get circulating soon. It’s hot and… not dusty. Stale? in here.”
“Agreed.”
Cecil tried the faucet in the kitchen, eliciting a deep groan in the wall and little else. Then he tried the bathroom sink, and finally the bathtub faucet. A successful splatter of stale-smelling water spilled out into the tub, and he let it keep running, hoping to jog the plumbing a bit. He stared at the water for some time before leaving to fish through the kitchen cabinets, and returned to fill the one large resealable container they had on hand. He also filled a drinking glass and smelled of it before sipping it. When it passed his inspection, he filled the next two largest containers as well. All the while, ‘Choly had retrieved his cane from beside him and righted himself, leaving the chair in the kitchen to flop on the daybed. He pushed everything off the bed that he’d strewn about trying to quickly get ready to meet Augen for lunch a month ago, and readily dozed off. Cecil let him rest while he unpacked to distract himself.
“I’m thinking ordering dinner from ShipShop,” Cecil half-asked, half-announced from across the apartment. “Chinese?”
“Mm? Yeah. Sure.” ‘Choly took off his glasses and rubbed at his face. “Guessing that’s our main option until they get the lift situation hashed–”
The walls of the building hummed in decline, and everything fell dark. Only one of the two long walls of the apartment had exposed Wolfram concrete, and ‘Choly and Cecil just sat in place trying to accept this phase of the rolling blackout.
“–out.”
“Guess I’m done unpacking for now.” Cecil sighed. “We should buy some more Wolfram installments. One wall isn’t gonna cut it long-term.”
‘Choly got up and made the executive decision to open the blackout curtains over the window which took up the entire outer wall of the apartment. He stared out from where he stood with a difficult brow.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to seeing the city only lit by the concrete,” he murmured.
“We’re inside. It’s fine. Come on, tell me what you want for dinner. The Web reception tanked with the power. I’ll go up to the rooftop kiosk and order in person. For once I’m glad we’re on the ninth floor of a twelve story building.”
“Let’s split something with shrimp.” ‘Choly started to walk toward Cecil, but stopped short. “I just put a finger on why that guy followed us. He recognized me.”
“From where?”
“The wreck on the Skybridge. He saw me and Augen walk away. Fuck–” He tugged at his sweatshirt in the twilight. “I’m even wearing the same shirt I was wearing–”
‘Choly could hear Cecil’s agitation mounting.
“…How were you two involved in that wreck?”

What would happen if McMenamin's owned the Winchester Mystery House, still occupied by its batty creator, who had acquired strange and bizarre artifacts throughout her long life, even more than the Mystery Shack, and continued on her mad construction?  How would such a place run?
Here’s a dream I had the other night.
Along the Oregon coast, just south of Astoria, there are some 500+ acres of utterly untouched wilderness, once owned by what is now described as a madwoman.  I say untouched, but there is a building deep within the heart of it, a giant rambling construction dictated only by the whims of a spiritualist trying to avoid the wrath of a self-imposed curse.  She filled this building with her long lifetime's worth of artifacts, bizarre and arcane, filled with spirits and spiritual energies beyond the ability of any one person to control.  It would sound the start of some great horror story or murder mystery but no, what the hotel chain that bought it out saw was a financial opportunity.
It is a grand establishment, with so many secret passages, bizarre architectural flourishes, ghosts, and utterly eccentric décor and effects it couldn't be anything but one of the most fascinating establishments in all of Oregon.  It's original owner, now into her hundreds has stayed on living there, as part of the purchase agreement.  She is allowed to continue her procurement of magic and unusual artifacts, and so long as the hotel can operate, continue her rambling construction (never ending, to stave of that which she fears hunts her).  The hotel chain has fixed up the place a treat, covering it in beautiful artwork, adding amenities galore, and making it an incredible destination.  But it wasn't a purchase without risk.
The place is deeply haunted.  Like a spiritual magnet, it has drawn all sorts of entities, ghostly, magical, arcane, and otherwise, to it.  While many of these apparitions are harmless and only add to the allure, some are very dangerous, and could cause trouble for patrons.  Therefore, in addition to the usual hotel, restaurant, and sales staff of front desk, office managers, cooks, housekeeping, bartenders, servers, sales associates, and so on, there are three classes of spiritual workers employed:
Exorcists – Considered the most important (or at least the most self-important) these workers are the last to deal with any given situation.  Through their spiritual and magical prowess they are capable of purging magical entities from our dimension back to their home plane.  Their work is violent and dangerous, and they oversee the care and maintenance of the spiritual energy of the building – never too much, always just enough.
Brutes – Below the Exorcists are the Brutes, the physical bouncers of this ghostly place.  They are, through grace or training, able to physically beat the stuffing out of anything magical or ectoplasmic that comes their way.  When more severe means aren't needed, they pitch out the ghostly riff-raff.
Empaths – Considered the most lowly of the spiritualists, these people, through their own skills are able to diffuse conflict with ghosts and other magical entities.  They are first to be called, and are the ones with the most paperwork to deal with as they ensure that any claim of malicious spiritual activity is, in fact, ghosts and not rowdy patrons.  They are the talkers of the bunch, and work to peaceful resolutions of conflict, moving artifacts when needed to cleanse their energies, finding out the requests and needs of ghosts that are reasonable to work with, and meeting them, and otherwise working to keep the prestige of the strange nature of the place while avoiding conflict between the mundane and the magical.
I work as an Empath.  I have, throughout my life, been privy and partial to the strange, and yet, generally most sympathetic to it.  I find no need to kill the spiders in my home, but to find the best means that we can all live together. I, along with my fellows, am considered soft, but valuable at least. Although I deal with a lot of paperwork, constantly writing and filing reports of minor spiritual mischief and ensuring that it is dealt with or moved up the chain accordingly.  Patrons sign a waiver which states that if they attribute ghosts to their own wrongdoings, they are subject to significant fines, and follow up on those thankfully isn't my job, but I do have to ensure that everything in that regard is written up correctly if the Exorcists find no spiritual causes of destruction.
All of us spiritualists have a particular sort of uniform.  We all – no matter our class, wear the same clothes, meant to protect us from malicious entities; heavy boots with iron toes, a black jumpsuit with copper piping details, thick leather gloves, bags and satchels full of our various effects. It is both practical, and meant to keep us as indistinguishable from one another as possible, apart from the mask, which is unique to any of us, and can be dropped or traded off at any point to prevent further distinction among us in a crisis situation (you might know the one with the elk skull did something, but now there are just six humans in the room).  Sometimes you need to be one of many – sometimes you need to stand out to avoid dangerous spiritual situations, and this is the best compromise so far.
Each mask is generally skeletal in form, and made of a light and robust material.  It comprises a breathing apparatus in the front, which may be needed if an entity turns particularly hostile, or if work is needed in the pools and lake on the grounds.  Decorated with arcane symbols, there is some personalization allowed here, as the form must follow function, and each spiritual worker has their own little means of making it through the labyrinth of magical manipulation.
For all I am on a low rung and do more paperwork than I care for, I do enjoy my job.  The facilities are amazing, exciting, and unique, and even after a long hard day of work, they still provide surprises and enjoyment for most of us working here.  The building's original owner is fascinating, and there are seemingly no end to the magical creatures, artifacts, and events one might encounter on a daily basis.  The grounds are lush and extensive, and we are allowed use of them within reason, wandering the gardens or trekking through the libraries and museum-like portions of the building are always soothing on the nerves.
The woods are full of fair folk, drawn to the ancient and untouched wilderness beyond the hotel grounds, and they are as fascinating and beautiful as one would expect.  They glitter in a myriad of colors, and have the lingering countenance and bearing of wild animals in their 'human' forms.  They look different from us, yet compelling.  We've found so long as you don't eat their food or give them your name they are harmless to us, and sometimes will even enjoy our company.  It's generally considered a right of passage among the folk working here to have some sort of close encounter with them.  Some get a bit caught up in this; as time slows among the fair folk, your 15 minute break might turn into a long screw and a good nap if you time things out right, and you won't even be late back to work.
My fiance works as a bartender here, both to the human patrons and serving the spirits of spirits to the spirits.  Ghosts may not pay well (they don't have to, running a bar for those that drink the actual alcohol is profitable enough) but they do tip strange.  Any number of kinds of currency, barter, or artifacts may show up in the jar when you serve them.  There have been a few previous bartenders and servers who have retired happily at an early age due to a particularly generous patron.  We're trying not to directly hope – it's all up to chance, but you never know. We have acquired an alarming number of teeth though.  They'll probably turn into an art project.
I've not been working here as long as my fiance, but I've been working long enough to become pretty well accustomed to my job.  In any given day I'll make my rounds, investigate anything I've been delegated based on customer complaint, speak with whatever entities and creatures I can work with, and file the relevant paperwork.  Even for my rank I'm toward the bottom, and I receive the more simple and often dull jobs.  Most of what I work with is the leftovers of rowdy patrons, chasing unicorns out of the gardens (they're goats... they're fancy goats), and patrolling the lesser haunted halls and ensuring the usual activities are up to snuff (moving pictures,  floating candles, hot and cold spots, vaguely disquieting noises, the usual.  In addition to asking ghosts to leave, we also ask them to step up their act at times too).  I know it will get more involved with time, and I have patience.
It's one day when I'm almost off my shift and I'm being harassed by a Brute about how I've filed my paperwork for the day in regards to some patrons who have broken a stored Christmas tree and attributed it to ghosts (I KNOW I've done it correctly, don't tell me how to do my job when the only paperwork you have to file is 'found relevant ghost, punched it in face, it left') that we all get a very interesting call over our coms.  We're asked to assemble in the attic space (one of many) where an Egyptian Sarcophagus has been kept for almost as long as the building has been around. The Brute and I are closest, and therefore I'm handed a job I'm not sure is entirely within my scope.
It would seem the eclectic owner has had some sort of epiphany recently, and desires the sarcophagus, it's effects and its contents to be moved to a new area of the building, however, it's occupant, a mummy of the 6th dynasty, has been rousted by the move.  He is not in a bad mood, but is stalling movement awaiting someone to hear out his demands.  While this would often be an Exorcists work, he is peaceful in his protest, and I'm the first Empath to get there.  He is almost immediately forthcoming with me – he wants to go home.  He doesn’t belong here, and never did, of course, and has been quiet and patient but enough is too much and he's quite done.  There is, as I convey this to those around me, the immediate question of how much of the very valuable artifacts associated with him he will take with, I see greed in the eyes of the managers I work with, but... it is all for naught.  He doesn’t want anything but to go, not to move on, but simply to go back to Egypt and find his way there.  Having not moved on as expected, he would at least like to go somewhere which must be somewhat more familiar.  He knows time has passed, but he can't simply wait around as an exhibit for whatever is to happen to him next.
It is surprising to see such animation – he has not been active ever, to anyone's knowledge, yet speaking here amongst us he begins to take back the trappings of life.  He is between, we understand him for he is not living, and the language of death is universal, but he is not a ghost either, a living construct. If what inhabits him now is the same spirit he had living, or if he has simply taken on a life of his own in death is unclear, but there are physical flashes in his withered form of the person he once was. There is some hemming an hawing, a real live mummy after all, but it is agreed that I am to serve as diplomat, as he has immediately taken to my straightforward and curious way of speaking to him, and get him on home, wherever that may be, expenses paid, of course (it is definitely good PR to return artifacts of certain provenance to their homelands, no one is so pig-headedly greedy here as to not see that). The hotel has had to deal with reparations before, not all artifacts here were attained through legitimate or kind means, and this, well, if only the being wishes to go, and the rest is still up to the estate here, it can be managed.  It's a frustratingly corporate world, and this is beyond anything I've dealt with, but I'm ready to make do.
With my fiance, a mummy, and my spiritualist know-how, we're somehow going to navigate all this to a better end, and, eventually, get back to work.

Since Google Plus is going away,  I’m going to back up Steve Yegge’s platform rant.  And confirm the opening paragraph.
One thing that struck me immediately about the two companies -- an impression that has been reinforced almost daily -- is that Amazon does everything wrong, and Google does everything right.  Sure, it's a sweeping generalization, but a surprisingly accurate one.  It's pretty crazy.  There are probably a hundred or even two hundred different ways you can compare the two companies, and Google is superior in all but three of them, if I recall correctly.
Looooooong text below the cut
Stevey's Google Platforms Rant I was at Amazon for about six and a half years, and now I've been at Google for that long. I actually did a spreadsheet at one point but Legal wouldn't let me show it to anyone, even though recruiting loved it. I mean, just to give you a very brief taste:  Amazon's recruiting process is fundamentally flawed by having teams hire for themselves, so their hiring bar is incredibly inconsistent across teams, despite various efforts they've made to level it out.  And their operations are a mess; they don't really have SREs and they make engineers pretty much do everything, which leaves almost no time for coding - though again this varies by group, so it's luck of the draw.  They don't give a single shit about charity or helping the needy or community contributions or anything like that.  Never comes up there, except maybe to laugh about it.  Their facilities are dirt-smeared cube farms without a dime spent on decor or common meeting areas.  Their pay and benefits suck, although much less so lately due to local competition from Google and Facebook.  But they don't have any of our perks or extras -- they just try to match the offer-letter numbers, and that's the end of it.  Their code base is a disaster, with no engineering standards whatsoever except what individual teams choose to put in place. To be fair, they do have a nice versioned-library system that we really ought to emulate, and a nice publish-subscribe system that we also have no equivalent for.  But for the most part they just have a bunch of crappy tools that read and write state machine information into relational databases.  We wouldn't take most of it even if it were free. I think the pubsub system and their library-shelf system were two out of the grand total of three things Amazon does better than google. I guess you could make an argument that their bias for launching early and iterating like mad is also something they do well, but you can argue it either way.  They prioritize launching early over everything else, including retention and engineering discipline and a bunch of other stuff that turns out to matter in the long run.  So even though it's given them some competitive advantages in the marketplace, it's created enough other problems to make it something less than a slam-dunk. But there's one thing they do really really well that pretty much makes up for ALL of their political, philosophical and technical screw-ups. Jeff Bezos is an infamous micro-manager.  He micro-manages every single pixel of Amazon's retail site.  He hired Larry Tesler, Apple's Chief Scientist and probably the very most famous and respected human-computer interaction expert in the entire world, and then ignored every goddamn thing Larry said for three years until Larry finally -- wisely -- left the company.  Larry would do these big usability studies and demonstrate beyond any shred of doubt that nobody can understand that frigging website, but Bezos just couldn't let go of those pixels, all those millions of semantics-packed pixels on the landing page.  They were like millions of his own precious children.  So they're all still there, and Larry is not. Micro-managing isn't that third thing that Amazon does better than us, by the way.  I mean, yeah, they micro-manage really well, but I wouldn't list it as a strength or anything.  I'm just trying to set the context here, to help you understand what happened.  We're talking about a guy who in all seriousness has said on many public occasions that people should be paying him to work at Amazon.  He hands out little yellow stickies with his name on them, reminding people "who runs the company" when they disagree with him.  The guy is a regular... well, Steve Jobs, I guess.  Except without the fashion or design sense.  Bezos is super smart; don't get me wrong.  He just makes ordinary control freaks look like stoned hippies. So one day Jeff Bezos issued a mandate.  He's doing that all the time, of course, and people scramble like ants being pounded with a rubber mallet whenever it happens. But on one occasion -- back around 2002 I think, plus or minus a year -- he issued a mandate that was so out there, so huge and eye-bulgingly ponderous, that it made all of his other mandates look like unsolicited peer bonuses. His Big Mandate went something along these lines:  1) All teams will henceforth expose their data and functionality through service interfaces.  2) Teams must communicate with each other through these interfaces.  3) There will be no other form of interprocess communication allowed:  no direct linking, no direct reads of another team's data store, no shared-memory model, no back-doors whatsoever.  The only communication allowed is via service interface calls over the network.  4) It doesn't matter what technology they use.  HTTP, Corba, Pubsub, custom protocols -- doesn't matter.  Bezos doesn't care.  5) All service interfaces, without exception, must be designed from the ground up to be externalizable.  That is to say, the team must plan and design to be able to expose the interface to developers in the outside world.  No exceptions.  6) Anyone who doesn't do this will be fired.  7) Thank you; have a nice day! Ha, ha!  You 150-odd ex-Amazon folks here will of course realize immediately that #7 was a little joke I threw in, because Bezos most definitely does not give a shit about your day. #6, however, was quite real, so people went to work.  Bezos assigned a couple of Chief Bulldogs to oversee the effort and ensure forward progress, headed up by Uber-Chief Bear Bulldog Rick Dalzell.  Rick is an ex-Armgy Ranger, West Point Academy graduate, ex-boxer, ex-Chief Torturer slash CIO at Wal*Mart, and is a big genial scary man who used the word "hardened interface" a lot.  Rick was a walking, talking hardened interface himself, so needless to say, everyone made LOTS of forward progress and made sure Rick knew about it. Over the next couple of years, Amazon transformed internally into a service-oriented architecture.  They learned a tremendous amount while effecting this transformation.  There was lots of existing documentation and lore about SOAs, but at Amazon's vast scale it was about as useful as telling Indiana Jones to look both ways before crossing the street.  Amazon's dev staff made a lot of discoveries along the way.  A teeny tiny sampling of these discoveries included:  - pager escalation gets way harder, because a ticket might bounce through 20 service calls before the real owner is identified.  If each bounce goes through a team with a 15-minute response time, it can be hours before the right team finally finds out, unless you build a lot of scaffolding and metrics and reporting.  - every single one of your peer teams suddenly becomes a potential DOS attacker.  Nobody can make any real forward progress until very serious quotas and throttling are put in place in every single service.  - monitoring and QA are the same thing.  You'd never think so until you try doing a big SOA.  But when your service says "oh yes, I'm fine", it may well be the case that the only thing still functioning in the server is the little component that knows how to say "I'm fine, roger roger, over and out" in a cheery droid voice.  In order to tell whether the service is actually responding, you have to make individual calls.  The problem continues recursively until your monitoring is doing comprehensive semantics checking of your entire range of services and data, at which point it's indistinguishable from automated QA.  So they're a continuum.  - if you have hundreds of services, and your code MUST communicate with other groups' code via these services, then you won't be able to find any of them without a service-discovery mechanism.  And you can't have that without a service registration mechanism, which itself is another service.  So Amazon has a universal service registry where you can find out reflectively (programmatically) about every service, what its APIs are, and also whether it is currently up, and where.  - debugging problems with someone else's code gets a LOT harder, and is basically impossible unless there is a universal standard way to run every service in a debuggable sandbox. That's just a very small sample.  There are dozens, maybe hundreds of individual learnings like these that Amazon had to discover organically.  There were a lot of wacky ones around externalizing services, but not as many as you might think.  Organizing into services taught teams not to trust each other in most of the same ways they're not supposed to trust external developers. This effort was still underway when I left to join Google in mid-2005, but it was pretty far advanced.  From the time Bezos issued his edict through the time I left, Amazon had transformed culturally into a company that thinks about everything in a services-first fashion.  It is now fundamental to how they approach all designs, including internal designs for stuff that might never see the light of day externally. At this point they don't even do it out of fear of being fired.  I mean, they're still afraid of that; it's pretty much part of daily life there, working for the Dread Pirate Bezos and all.  But they do services because they've come to understand that it's the Right Thing.  There are without question pros and cons to the SOA approach, and some of the cons are pretty long.  But overall it's the right thing because SOA-driven design enables Platforms. That's what Bezos was up to with his edict, of course.  He didn't (and doesn't) care even a tiny bit about the well-being of the teams, nor about what technologies they use, nor in fact any detail whatsoever about how they go about their business unless they happen to be screwing up.  But Bezos realized long before the vast majority of Amazonians that Amazon needs to be a platform. You wouldn't really think that an online bookstore needs to be an extensible, programmable platform.  Would you? Well, the first big thing Bezos realized is that the infrastructure they'd built for selling and shipping books and sundry could be transformed an excellent repurposable computing platform.  So now they have the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, and the Amazon Elastic MapReduce, and the Amazon Relational Database Service, and a whole passel' o' other services browsable at aws.amazon.com.  These services host the backends for some pretty successful companies, reddit being my personal favorite of the bunch. The other big realization he had was that he can't always build the right thing.  I think Larry Tesler might have struck some kind of chord in Bezos when he said his mom couldn't use the goddamn website.  It's not even super clear whose mom he was talking about, and doesn't really matter, because nobody's mom can use the goddamn website.  In fact I myself find the website disturbingly daunting, and I worked there for over half a decade.  I've just learned to kinda defocus my eyes and concentrate on the million or so pixels near the center of the page above the fold. I'm not really sure how Bezos came to this realization -- the insight that he can't build one product and have it be right for everyone.  But it doesn't matter, because he gets it.  There's actually a formal name for this phenomenon.  It's called Accessibility, and it's the most important thing in the computing world. The. Most. Important. Thing. If you're sorta thinking, "huh?  You mean like, blind and deaf people Accessibility?" then you're not alone, because I've come to understand that there are lots and LOTS of people just like you:  people for whom this idea does not have the right Accessibility, so it hasn't been able to get through to you yet.  It's not your fault for not understanding, any more than it would be your fault for being blind or deaf or motion-restricted or living with any other disability.  When software -- or idea-ware for that matter -- fails to be accessible to anyone for any reason, it is the fault of the software or of the messaging of the idea.  It is an Accessibility failure. Like anything else big and important in life, Accessibility has an evil twin who, jilted by the unbalanced affection displayed by their parents in their youth, has grown into an equally powerful Arch-Nemesis (yes, there's more than one nemesis to accessibility) named Security.  And boy howdy are the two ever at odds. But I'll argue that Accessibility is actually more important than Security because dialing Accessibility to zero means you have no product at all, whereas dialing Security to zero can still get you a reasonably successful product such as the Playstation Network. So yeah.  In case you hadn't noticed, I could actually write a book on this topic.  A fat one, filled with amusing anecdotes about ants and rubber mallets at companies I've worked at.  But I will never get this little rant published, and you'll never get it read, unless I start to wrap up. That one last thing that Google doesn't do well is Platforms.  We don't understand platforms.  We don't "get" platforms.  Some of you do, but you are the minority.  This has become painfully clear to me over the past six years.  I was kind of hoping that competitive pressure from Microsoft and Amazon and more recently Facebook would make us wake up collectively and start doing universal services.  Not in some sort of ad-hoc, half-assed way, but in more or less the same way Amazon did it:  all at once, for real, no cheating, and treating it as our top priority from now on. But no.  No, it's like our tenth or eleventh priority.  Or fifteenth, I don't know.  It's pretty low.  There are a few teams who treat the idea very seriously, but most teams either don't think about it all, ever, or only a small percentage of them think about it in a very small way. It's a big stretch even to get most teams to offer a stubby service to get programmatic access to their data and computations.  Most of them think they're building products.  And a stubby service is a pretty pathetic service.  Go back and look at that partial list of learnings from Amazon, and tell me which ones Stubby gives you out of the box.  As far as I'm concerned, it's none of them.  Stubby's great, but it's like parts when you need a car. A product is useless without a platform, or more precisely and accurately, a platform-less product will always be replaced by an equivalent platform-ized product. Google+ is a prime example of our complete failure to understand platforms from the very highest levels of executive leadership (hi Larry, Sergey, Eric, Vic, howdy howdy) down to the very lowest leaf workers (hey yo).  We all don't get it.  The Golden Rule of platforms is that you Eat Your Own Dogfood.  The Google+ platform is a pathetic afterthought.  We had no API at all at launch, and last I checked, we had one measly API call.  One of the team members marched in and told me about it when they launched, and I asked:  "So is it the Stalker API?"  She got all glum and said "Yeah."  I mean, I was joking, but no... the only API call we offer is to get someone's stream.  So I guess the joke was on me. Microsoft has known about the Dogfood rule for at least twenty years.  It's been part of their culture for a whole generation now.  You don't eat People Food and give your developers Dog Food.  Doing that is simply robbing your long-term platform value for short-term successes.  Platforms are all about long-term thinking. Google+ is a knee-jerk reaction, a study in short-term thinking, predicated on the incorrect notion that Facebook is successful because they built a great product.  But that's not why they are successful.  Facebook is successful because they built an entire constellation of products by allowing other people to do the work.  So Facebook is different for everyone.  Some people spend all their time on Mafia Wars.  Some spend all their time on Farmville.  There are hundreds or maybe thousands of different high-quality time sinks available, so there's something there for everyone. Our Google+ team took a look at the aftermarket and said:  "Gosh, it looks like we need some games.  Let's go contract someone to, um, write some games for us."  Do you begin to see how incredibly wrong that thinking is now?  The problem is that we are trying to predict what people want and deliver it for them. You can't do that.  Not really.  Not reliably.  There have been precious few people in the world, over the entire history of computing, who have been able to do it reliably.  Steve Jobs was one of them.  We don't have a Steve Jobs here.  I'm sorry, but we don't. Larry Tesler may have convinced Bezos that he was no Steve Jobs, but Bezos realized that he didn't need to be a Steve Jobs in order to provide everyone with the right products:  interfaces and workflows that they liked and felt at ease with.  He just needed to enable third-party developers to do it, and it would happen automatically. I apologize to those (many) of you for whom all this stuff I'm saying is incredibly obvious, because yeah.  It's incredibly frigging obvious.  Except we're not doing it.  We don't get Platforms, and we don't get Accessibility.  The two are basically the same thing, because platforms solve accessibility.  A platform is accessibility. So yeah, Microsoft gets it.  And you know as well as I do how surprising that is, because they don't "get" much of anything, really.  But they understand platforms as a purely accidental outgrowth of having started life in the business of providing platforms.  So they have thirty-plus years of learning in this space.  And if you go to msdn.com, and spend some time browsing, and you've never seen it before, prepare to be amazed.  Because it's staggeringly huge.  They have thousands, and thousands, and THOUSANDS of API calls.  They have a HUGE platform.  Too big in fact, because they can't design for squat, but at least they're doing it. Amazon gets it.  Amazon's AWS (aws.amazon.com) is incredible.  Just go look at it.  Click around.  It's embarrassing.  We don't have any of that stuff. Apple gets it, obviously.  They've made some fundamentally non-open choices, particularly around their mobile platform.  But they understand accessibility and they understand the power of third-party development and they eat their dogfood.  And you know what?  They make pretty good dogfood.  Their APIs are a hell of a lot cleaner than Microsoft's, and have been since time immemorial. Facebook gets it.  That's what really worries me.  That's what got me off my lazy butt to write this thing.  I hate blogging.  I hate... plussing, or whatever it's called when you do a massive rant in Google+ even though it's a terrible venue for it but you do it anyway because in the end you really do want Google to be successful.  And I do!  I mean, Facebook wants me there, and it'd be pretty easy to just go.  But Google is home, so I'm insisting that we have this little family intervention, uncomfortable as it might be. After you've marveled at the platform offerings of Microsoft and Amazon, and Facebook I guess (I didn't look because I didn't want to get too depressed), head over to developers.google.com and browse a little.  Pretty big difference, eh?  It's like what your fifth-grade nephew might mock up if he were doing an assignment to demonstrate what a big powerful platform company might be building if all they had, resource-wise, was one fifth grader. Please don't get me wrong here -- I know for a fact that the dev-rel team has had to FIGHT to get even this much available externally.  They're kicking ass as far as I'm concerned, because they DO get platforms, and they are struggling heroically to try to create one in an environment that is at best platform-apathetic, and at worst often openly hostile to the idea. I'm just frankly describing what developers.google.com looks like to an outsider.  It looks childish.  Where's the Maps APIs in there for Christ's sake?  Some of the things in there are labs projects.  And the APIs for everything I clicked were... they were paltry.  They were obviously dog food.  Not even good organic stuff.  Compared to our internal APIs it's all snouts and horse hooves. And also don't get me wrong about Google+.  They're far from the only offenders.  This is a cultural thing.  What we have going on internally is basically a war, with the underdog minority Platformers fighting a more or less losing battle against the Mighty Funded Confident Producters. Any teams that have successfully internalized the notion that they should be externally programmable platforms from the ground up are underdogs -- Maps and Docs come to mind, and I know GMail is making overtures in that direction.  But it's hard for them to get funding for it because it's not part of our culture.  Maestro's funding is a feeble thing compared to the gargantuan Microsoft Office programming platform:  it's a fluffy rabbit versus a T-Rex.  The Docs team knows they'll never be competitive with Office until they can match its scripting facilities, but they're not getting any resource love.  I mean, I assume they're not, given that Apps Script only works in Spreadsheet right now, and it doesn't even have keyboard shortcuts as part of its API.  That team looks pretty unloved to me. Ironically enough, Wave was a great platform, may they rest in peace.  But making something a platform is not going to make you an instant success.  A platform needs a killer app.  Facebook -- that is, the stock service they offer with walls and friends and such -- is the killer app for the Facebook Platform.  And it is a very serious mistake to conclude that the Facebook App could have been anywhere near as successful without the Facebook Platform. You know how people are always saying Google is arrogant?  I'm a Googler, so I get as irritated as you do when people say that.  We're not arrogant, by and large.  We're, like, 99% Arrogance-Free.  I did start this post -- if you'll reach back into distant memory -- by describing Google as "doing everything right".  We do mean well, and for the most part when people say we're arrogant it's because we didn't hire them, or they're unhappy with our policies, or something along those lines.  They're inferring arrogance because it makes them feel better. But when we take the stance that we know how to design the perfect product for everyone, and believe you me, I hear that a lot, then we're being fools.  You can attribute it to arrogance, or naivete, or whatever -- it doesn't matter in the end, because it's foolishness.  There IS no perfect product for everyone. And so we wind up with a browser that doesn't let you set the default font size.  Talk about an affront to Accessibility.  I mean, as I get older I'm actually going blind.  For real.  I've been nearsighted all my life, and once you hit 40 years old you stop being able to see things up close.  So font selection becomes this life-or-death thing:  it can lock you out of the product completely.  But the Chrome team is flat-out arrogant here:  they want to build a zero-configuration product, and they're quite brazen about it, and Fuck You if you're blind or deaf or whatever.  Hit Ctrl-+ on every single page visit for the rest of your life. It's not just them.  It's everyone.  The problem is that we're a Product Company through and through.  We built a successful product with broad appeal -- our search, that is -- and that wild success has biased us. Amazon was a product company too, so it took an out-of-band force to make Bezos understand the need for a platform.  That force was their evaporating margins; he was cornered and had to think of a way out.  But all he had was a bunch of engineers and all these computers... if only they could be monetized somehow... you can see how he arrived at AWS, in hindsight. Microsoft started out as a platform, so they've just had lots of practice at it. Facebook, though:  they worry me.  I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure they started off as a Product and they rode that success pretty far.  So I'm not sure exactly how they made the transition to a platform.  It was a relatively long time ago, since they had to be a platform before (now very old) things like Mafia Wars could come along. Maybe they just looked at us and asked:  "How can we beat Google?  What are they missing?" The problem we face is pretty huge, because it will take a dramatic cultural change in order for us to start catching up.  We don't do internal service-oriented platforms, and we just as equally don't do external ones.  This means that the "not getting it" is endemic across the company:  the PMs don't get it, the engineers don't get it, the product teams don't get it, nobody gets it.  Even if individuals do, even if YOU do, it doesn't matter one bit unless we're treating it as an all-hands-on-deck emergency.  We can't keep launching products and pretending we'll turn them into magical beautiful extensible platforms later.  We've tried that and it's not working. The Golden Rule of Platforms, "Eat Your Own Dogfood", can be rephrased as "Start with a Platform, and Then Use it for Everything."  You can't just bolt it on later.  Certainly not easily at any rate -- ask anyone who worked on platformizing MS Office.  Or anyone who worked on platformizing Amazon.  If you delay it, it'll be ten times as much work as just doing it correctly up front.  You can't cheat.  You can't have secret back doors for internal apps to get special priority access, not for ANY reason.  You need to solve the hard problems up front. I'm not saying it's too late for us, but the longer we wait, the closer we get to being Too Late. I honestly don't know how to wrap this up.  I've said pretty much everything I came here to say today.  This post has been six years in the making.  I'm sorry if I wasn't gentle enough, or if I misrepresented some product or team or person, or if we're actually doing LOTS of platform stuff and it just so happens that I and everyone I ever talk to has just never heard about it.  I'm sorry. But we've gotta start doing this right.

VoIP PBX - Enabling Business Growth
VoIP PBX - Enabling Business Growth
Enterprise communications has all the time been a challenging enviornment for administration....subject to price, perform, reliability, and other pressures and concerns. The emergence of VoIP expertise....and particularly utility to PBX techniques via IP primarily based protocols....has provided an infinite opportunity for firms to reap many advantages.
Many firms today have a number of office areas across the country or around the world. Presently, each office uses its own PBX system and inter-office telephone calls are routed through the PSTN and charged long distance and worldwide charges by carriers. Most corporations also employ staff on ip pbx uae an element time basis who work from their houses. These workers get reimbursed for telecommunication bills they incur while performing their duties. It simply makes enterprise sense for firms to explore alternate options to consolidate their telecommunication systems and scale back prices.
The answer......buy a Voice-over-IP enabled PBX system and deploy it in a Digital Office setup.
Voice-over-IP (VoIP) is a reasonably new technology for transporting voice calls over the Internet which allows customers to comprehend substantial value savings on long distance and worldwide calls. Besides price effectiveness, VoIP enabled PBX methods (or IP PBX) supply easy integration with existing telecommunications methods and are characterised with low working costs as their improve is done by way of software updates rather than more expensive hardware substitute. Moreover, the expertise simplifies the communication infrastructure (no need for separate voice and data cables) while providing excessive scalability.
Digital Office models are used by firms that wish to consolidate their communications, cut back costs and achieve extra cohesive company photographs. To implement the model, an organization has to install a single IP PBX system in its headquarters and distribute to employees IP telephones or common telephones with VoIP adapters. Staff can make intra-office and inter-office telephone calls by dialing PBX extensions. Such calls are routed via the Web and are practically free. Firm customers, on the other aspect, can dial a single inbound number plus extensions as a way to reach the company's staff. The latter obtain the calls on their IP/Common Telephones at any location on the planet with Web connectivity.
So what kind of a VoIP PBX solution does your business need? - a turnkey Digital Office answer that could be personalized to meet your organization particular wants.
My suggestion for this solution is the highly acclaimed bundle from Packet8. Not too long ago 8X8, Inc's Packet8 Digital Workplace Resolution for small and medium sized businesses obtained Community Computing Journal's Editor's Choice award over aggressive offerings from Covad Communications and Velocity Networks. That is some pretty stiff competition....and says loads about Packet8's performance. The Packet8 Virtual Office solution acquired the best total ranking for its wealthy feature set, call management tools and low subscription price.
The Packet8 Virtual Office is an economical, simple-to-use different to conventional PBX methods that enables users anyplace on this planet to be a part of a VoIP-hosted digital cellphone system that includes auto attendants, conference bridges, extension-to-extension dialing, enterprise class voicemail and ring groups, along with a rich variety of different enterprise telephone options usually discovered on excessive-finish, premise primarily based PBX programs. Their Virtual Workplace reduces a company's telecommunications total price of possession (TCO) with a minimal preliminary investment combined with unlimited native and lengthy distance business calling all through the United States and Canada and Packet8's low worldwide rates.
VoIP PBX or IP PBX (Internet Protocol Personal Branch Trade) is a telephony system that makes use of IP knowledge networks to facilitate telecommunication. The speedy benefit of VoIP PBX is that enterprises utilizing it need not have to interchange their present telephones or phone numbers to accommodate the new VoIP facility. It's a strong technology that works in tandem with the present communication infrastructures. In different words, the VoIP know-how can use the existing PSTN lines by way of the VoIP gateway, and there is no a lot of extra infrastructure concerned in its entire set up.
How does a VoIP PBX work?
The basic architecture of an IP PBX system consists of an IP PBX server, one or more SIP telephones or VoIP phones, and a VoIP gateway, as talked about already, to hook up with the prevailing PSTN lines (optionally available though). The IP PBX server functions quite much like a proxy server. The SIP or VoIP phones, which could be either hardware phones or gentle telephones, has to register with the IP PBX server, and after they want to make a name to another cellphone - a VoIP or SIP phone - actually a request is ship to the IP PBX server to determine the connection. The IP PBX server could have a directory of all users/phones and their respective SIP addresses, and using this data, it could connect an internal call or route an exterior call via a VoIP service provider or a VoIP gateway, whichever is applicable. The process is simply quick and simple.
So, what are the advantages of VoIP PBX over standard PBX techniques?
An important plus of VoIP PBX is that it's many occasions simpler to install and configure than a traditional telephone system. Anyone who is aware of the basics of pc and networking can set up the IP PBX in a LAPTOP and keep it fairly well. Also, since it's all software, there isn't a complex wiring involved anywhere. If anyone wants to attach a hardware Visit blog cellphone to an IP PBX system, he/she will directly plug it into a regular network port (soft telephones can be put in straight into the LAPTOP). This have to be learn within the backdrop of the fact that within the case of proprietary phones, solely a trained technician could deal with its set up, configuration, wiring, and total maintenance.
Another massive benefit of IP PBX is its low price of operation. Since the calls make use of IP networks, even lengthy distance worldwide calls are many occasions cheaper. If the decision is made between the phone programs that hyperlinks the branches of enterprises, it is completely free of price. Additional, since IP PBX is built on an open SIP customary, users can use any SIP software/hardware telephone with nearly any SIP based PSTN Gateway, IP PBX or VoIP provider. There isn't a query of a vendor lock-in in any circumstance.
One more constructive with IP PBX is that it may easily handle any number of extra phone connections and extensions with out disturbing the effectivity of the community. This is in deep distinction to the traditional phone programs, which might require further hardware modules to accommodate the newer connections and extensions.
The IP PBX serves as a gateway in order to transfer voice in Voice Over IP networks. This gateway really performs the role of a phone change as is found in conventional networks.
