Rotating post-Bragollach Curufin and Finrod in my head right now
I don't actually headcanon that Curufin hated Finrod from the get-go, but I do headcanon that (with very, very few exceptions) Curufin interprets any act of unearned kindness towards him as a form of condescension (derogatory)
So I have this headcanon I'm currently rotating in my head that is like... Finrod assumes (correctly, actually!!) that Curufin had a really awful time before he got to safety in Nargothrond, because he has a very beloved son to worry about, and after losing his father, even the possibility of losing his son must be extremely stressful. So Finrod, not being heartless, tries to be extra nice to him because Curufin would probably refuse any offer of comfort but surely being kind is just basic human decency, right?
Curufin, who's already in a terrible mood because What If Celebrimbor Had Died and because he's feeling like he's failed his job as a lord, takes this kindness to be a very backhanded, passive-aggressive way of Finrod to stress that Curufin is in need of help, and relying on his mercy. Which is even more humiliating because Finrod is the lord of the least of the Finwean houses! This is even worse than having to be under Nolofinwean authority!!
But it's also objectively true, so Curufin is in no position to make a scene, and he's smart, so he doesn't. But Feanor would've? Feanor would've put pride above safety? Does that make Curufin a lesser man than his father? After failing as a lord and as a father is he failing as a son too? Oh but that's super uncomfortable to think about. It's much easier to project it outwards and decide this is all Finrod's fault somehow. (See also: Luthien and Beren's mercy is an insult actually)
And this is how Curufin goes from ambivalent, even sort of positive feelings towards Finrod to... "Yeah sure I'm fine with you dying if it gets me a realm. Whatever." It's not immediate, it's a long process full of ups and downs, but this is what kickstarts it

The grandchildren of Finwe rated on how likely they are to use the word "brother/sister" as a term of address when talking to their siblings
A completely objective ranking that is in no way an attempt to procrastinate A Task I Have To Do
Maedhros: 1/10, mostly used to assert his authority, everybody hates it
Maglor: 2.5/10, only in moments of Great Emotion
Celegorm: 9/10, given that he makes it mean either I love you or I hate you, he sure uses it a lot
Caranthir: 0/10. No.
Curufin: 1000/10, can convey the full spectrum of human emotion just saying the word brother, extremely obnoxious, make him stop
Ambarussa: 7/10, 🥺 made verbal
Fingon: 6/10, doesn't do it particularly often but means it when he does
Turgon: 9/10, very cute about it, you can tell he loves them
Aredhel: 5/10, you have to earn it (derogatory)
Argon: 4/10, picks his moments
Finrod: 10/10, he makes it sound like the sweetest of pet names, people have been known to want to be sibling-adopted just to experience it
Angrod: 3/10, bows to peer-pressure but doesn't really see the point
Aegnor: 8/10, only when he's in a good mood
Galadriel: 6/10, you have to earn it (affectionate). Would be 9.5/10 if her only brother was Finrod
