Lyvia: Fantasy
For FT Rare Pair Week @ftguildevents
Fantasy
Juvia was standing at the edge of the ballroom. Everything was peaceful at last. Her friends and guildmates were enjoying themselves, everyone was dancing and laughing, and enjoy the wonderful ball that the palace had thrown in their honor. In one corner she saw Lucy and Natsu, talking with Sting and Yukino. In another, Kagura and Erza. And Gray was on the dance floor with Wendy. Juvia admired the way he was like such a good brother to the little dragon slayer. Wendy was laughing, and Gray even smiled. Juvia let out a deep sigh. She had been hoping to dance with Gray herself.
There was laughter on the other end of the ballroom and Juvia looked for the source. Lyon, standing with a couple of the girls from Mermaid Heel. Lyon.
Since the moment they had first met, Lyon Vastia had been nothing but sweet to her. Defending her… promising to fight for her…
And she had to admit, he was handsome. He had a smile that made her knees weak, the way he ran his fingers through his pale hair—his laugh—and those stunning green eyes, Juvia had to admit… he was…
Her heart skipped a beat thinking about him. What is this? Juvia hasn’t had feelings like these in some time… She could see him, emerald eyes glancing up and locking with hers. That soft smirk, the one that made her heart flutter. He marched across the ballroom floor, flawlessly stepping past dancers, eyes never once leaving hers. Pressing his hand against the wall behind her, and leaning over her, he cupped her cheek. “Juvia…” he murmured, as her cheeks grew hot, “Will you be mine?” Her heart was pounding.
“L-Lyon-sama!” She gasped, reaching out for him. “Juvia… Juvia…” He was so close, their noses brushing. He was going to kiss her. She clutched his shirt, and closed her eyes, waiting for his lips to finally touch hers. But it never came. The fantasy was over and Juvia was shaken.
Another bout of laughter made her find him again. Lyon… her knees were weak, but she steadied herself and made her way across the ballroom. Lyon was still standing with some of Mermaid Heel. Is Juvia really doing this? Juvia felt her heart skip a beat as she approached the ice mage. He glanced up, forest green eyes glancing over her. She saw the flush rise in his cheeks and he nodded once.
          “Juvia…”
“Lyon-sama!” She tried to contain herself, clutching at her heart. “Juvia was wondering if…” She trailed off. She didn’t usually hesitate when it came to these things, but there was something about Lyon that made her flustered. “If… if you would like to dance…?”
Lyon’s eyes lit up, and a smile touched his lips. “Juvia…” He held out his hand, “I would like that.” She entwined her fingers with his and he gently pulled her out onto the dance floor. There was something that felt so right about their dance. Lyon’s arms around her, he was close. And he talked to her—mostly about the games. When he laughed, she felt it in his chest. He was warm… and comforting.
The song faded into a slow dance, and Lyon paused, searching her eyes. She smiled, too comfortable in his arms, “Lyon-sama, do you mind if Juvia dances with you once more?”

Ever since Sting had discovered what Valentine's day was, Rogue had stayed home with Frosch and Lector while Sting went on dates. The first time, Lector had rented 13 going on 30 to watch while Rogue and Frosch bought ingredients for gingerbread cookies. Then they had made the cookies together before watching the film. After that, they had played board games until Sting came back. The next day, they would get up bright and early to buy all the chocolate that went on sale. It had been fun, and had become a tradition as a result.
This year, however, Frosch and Lector feared that they would have to break their tradition. You see, about six months ago, Rogue got a boyfriend and would likely be spending Valentine's day with him. Frosch normally liked Gray, but not when he was getting in the way of something she had looked forward to all year. Lector didn't really care for Gray on a normal day, they just weren't close, and to add that he was going to ruin their tradition, well, Lector definitely upset with him, to say the least.
But Gray made Rogue happy, so the exceeds had agreed to grin and bear it. They felt they should be happy for Rogue. That was why they didn't say a word and just waited for the day to arrive.
When the day arrived, Sting dropped Lector off at Rogue's house to go on his date. Lector hadn't told him about his worries and intended to spend the day with Frosch. He knew his friend would cry, and he wasn't exactly in a laughing mood either, but as they say, misery loves company.
Rogue was dressed more elegantly than usual, trading the black hoodie he usually wore on Valentine's day for a deep red turtleneck sweater. He had his hair up as well. He was definitely going out. Lector realized that he had been holding on to his hopes that Rogue would stay with them instead of spending the day with his boyfriend, since he hadn't said that they would go out. Frosch was doing a surprisingly good job at faking her smile. She must really want Rogue to be happy.
Lector looked a bit tired. Frosch wouldn't have been surprised if he'd stayed up late crying. He made a point never to cry in front of her. Together, they waited for Rogue to leave, but he showed no sign of doing so. Maybe Gray was picking him up. Breakfast was a bit quieter than usual, and Rogue asked if something was wrong. They both brushed it off, but Frosch could tell they weren't convincing him. At least he let it go.
Half an hour later, Rogue got up. Moments later, the doorbell rang and Rogue let Gray in. They stepped into the kitchen, Gray holding purple and blue flowers the exceeds couldn't name.
"Are you two done eating?" Rogue asked. The exceeds nodded. "Great! Lector, do you mind renting the film again while we buy the stuff we need?"
Stunned, Lector barely managed to nod. Frosch, meanwhile, jumped up and flew into Rogue's arms. Rogue smiled softly and freed one of his arms to take Gray's hand.
"We'll meet you here, okay? Do you want any specific decorations?"
"The red and blue mint chocolate heart things!" Lector requested.
"Those are great. I'll make sure we get some." Gray agreed.
Lector flew off to rent the film. They had asked the shop to hold it, but Lector liked picking it up the day of, it gave him some time alone to look around town at the decorations that had been put up.
Frosch, meanwhile, couldn't believe she had ever doubted Rogue. If he was going to pull something like that, he wouldn't have sprung it on her on the same day, he would have told her in advance. Still, she couldn't bring herself to let him go. Since Gray liked her as well, adding him to their family tradition wouldn't be too bad. It might even be an improvement.
This would be a good Valentine's day.

The ticket master at the haunted house had insisted people go in pairs, but Gray and Rogue didn't mind at all. If anything, it was an opportunity to enjoy Halloween with just the two of them. They, with their teams, had gone to the festival together to enjoy the holiday. The problem with that was that their teams didn't know that the two of them were dating, and thus couldn't take hints that the couple wanted to be alone.
It had been a little hard to make sure they ended up together, since as far as their teams knew, they barely tolerated each other. Natsu and Lucy had gone together, to Sting's disappointment. Minerva had gone with Yukino and Erza had promised to make sure Wendy wouldn't get scared. Carla and Frosch would stay outside, after Rogue had wrested a promise out of Carla that she'd keep an eye on Frosch and had made Frosch promise not to run off. Sting, meanwhile, had taken the coat Gray had dropped to disguise Happy and Lector as one person before realizing Rogue didn't have a partner. That was when Gray had swooped in to offer to go with Rogue. Yukino and Wendy had asked them not to fight and Sting and Natsu had requested that they not fight without them (priorities).
They went in last. Rogue grabbed Gray's hand once they were inside. Rogue's ability to see in the dark and hear things coming did weaken the experience for him, but he didn't mind. Gray was halfway immersed in the story being told, of two explorers searching for missing children, when Rogue nudged him.
"There's a door over there. Wanna take a look?" Gray knew it was probably a staff door, but the glint of mischief in Rogue's eyes sold him on the idea.
"Lead the way."
Rogue tried the door, which was locked. He stepped aside and waved dramatically at the lock.
"Your time to shine, darling." He cringed as soon as the words came out of his mouth, but despite the darkness, he could see Gray fighting a smile as he peered into the lock.
"This should do it." The key he made needed to be jiggled around a bit, since Gray had been going off the lock instead of copying the real key, but it did the job. "There we go."
Rogue led the way, listening out for trouble. The corridor they were in seemed to be part of a network spanning the whole house. It was narrow and poorly lit and the floorboards creaked underneath Gray's feet. Rogue, being lighter and generally quieter, didn't make a sound. Suddenly, he stopped Gray. "Someone's coming."
They ducked around a corner and waited as someone in a clown costume passed by them. It was a good thing Frosch had stayed outside. She hated clowns.
Once the coast was clear, they went back to exploring. Rogue found a rickety staircase that led to the basement, which creaked loudly enough that Gray was surprised that they hadn't alerted the whole house. They reached a fork in the corridor and Gray picked one.
"Not that way. Someone's waiting there." Rogue whispered. They found a small door in the wall with a spy hole in it and took turns looking through it into an empty room.
"Hey boss, we've got a code 7 on our hands." Rogue heard someone say. That probably involved them.
"Gray, I think they noticed we were gone." Rogue could hear footsteps around the house as the actors started to mobilize.
"Well, we're not Natsu or anything. Let's just sneak out." Gray suggested. Given that every corridor was being watched by now, it would be easier said than done. Rogue could leave on his own, but he wouldn't abandon Gray, even though the worst thing that could happen was a fine.
"They're all watching the corridors. Our best bet is to get back to the part we're supposed to be in and play dumb."
"Sounds like fun." Gray pushed the door open and stepped through, realizing that the other side was a painting. Rogue followed him and they quietly made their way through the last room. Since no one was operating it, nothing jumped out at them. Quietly, carefully and with a little help from Rogue's magic, they left the house.
"What took you guys so long, were you making out or something?" Sting asked tactlessly.
"What if we were?" Gray asked.
"You llllike hiiiiim." Happy drawled out.
"Well, what if I do?" Gray challenged him. Rogue decided that the best way to resolve this was to drape himself over Gray's shoulders, like a cat and give Happy a wide smirk.
"So you were making out. Got it." Sting said. Letting him believe that was probably in their best interest. If Sting or Natsu found out about the tunnels, things would probably escalate quickly.
Instead of responding, they went off to enjoy the rest of the festival.

Team up
Rogue panicked as he realized that Frosch's scent had grown stale. Trying to keep calm, he looked for Sting. He was probably still talking to Natsu's team, which had dropped by for a visit. Rogue bristled when he saw Gray was still there. He had had no reason to believe he wouldn't be, but it annoyed him nonetheless. Gray had a habit of trying to smuggle Frosch out of the guild, and though everyone insisted Gray had every intention of bringing her back, Rogue didn't have their confidence. It wasn't that he particularly distrusted Gray, more that he was concerned with Frosch's self preservation skills, or lack thereof.
"Have you guys seen Frosch? She was with Lector the last time I saw her, but she's gone." Rogue tried to keep any accusatory undertones out of his voice.
"Frosch is gone? Are you sure you checked everywhere?" Gray asked before Sting could answer.
"I'd be able to smell her if she was here!" Rogue hissed insistently. "I wanted to ask if you guys saw her before I panicked."
"Alright Rogue, calm down. We'll look for her. You guys don't mind helping out, do you?" Sting directed his question to Natsu's team.
"Sure man, I'll take Luce, Wendy can go with Erza, you go with Yukino. I guess that leaves Rogue and Gray." Natsu agreed quickly. Were Rogue not panicking, he would have questioned it.
Gray, however, did notice, but didn't comment on it. Clearly, if they were scheming to make him and Rogue, that meant Frosch was probably safe. He'd let Rogue know once they were out of earshot.
"Okay Rogue, let's go. Where's Frosch most likely to go?" Gray asked.
"The park. There's a pond with all these cool frogs." Rogue said after thinking for moment.
Unsurprisingly, Frosch was not at the park. Rogue seemed to be thinking up the next most likely location, but Gray stopped him.
"Hey, Rogue? Now that the others can't hear us, I've got to tell you something." Rogue looked up, apprehensive. "I'm pretty sure this is a set-up so we'll get along, so Frosch is probably safe, wherever she is."
"By who? Who would do that? Why?" Rogue uttered.
"Our teams, probably. Natsu was awfully quick to team us up, and Sting agreed on the spot. Isn't that suspicious?"
"Come to think of it, it was pretty strange. Those bastards! How could they do that to Frosch?" Rogue exclaimed.
"I understand that you're mad, it's a crappy thing to do to you. To both of you. But I think the only way to make sure it doesn't happen again is to play along." Gray suggested. He didn't dislike Rogue, but his protectiveness of Frosch, though understandable, was making him hard to get along with since he'd apparently decided Gray was a threat of some kind. If Gray could dispel that illusion, he thought the two of them would get along. "Now that we know Frosch is safe, we should kill some time so that they think we bought it. Then we meet up with the others at the guild and pretend to get along and they'll give Frosch back. Sound good?"
"Alright. Then what do we do? Do we pretend to look for Frosch?" Rogue asked.
"That's an option, if they're watching us. But you'd hear them if they were, so I don't think we need to. We can just sit back and find somewhere cool to relax for a couple of hours." Gray felt that even if the others had realized that they'd seen through them, they wouldn't interfere if it looked like he and Rogue were getting along.
"That makes sense but ...um, well ...your clothes." Gray realized that he was wearing his underwear and little else.
"When did that happen? Guess it's getting too hot here. Do you want to get some ice-cream? I'll pay." Gray deflected, rapidly picking up his clothes. Dragonslayers liked food. Rogue seemed to be no exception, as he agreed without hesitation. Gray felt a surge of worry for his wallet, but let it go. Rogue probably wasn't over the trick their teams had pulled on him, he deserved a treat.
Surprisingly enough Rogue hadn't gone overboard spending Gray's money, a concept even Wendy and Lucy struggled with. He had chosen a combination of mint-chocolate-chip, white chocolate and chocolate ice-cream in a portion that wouldn't cover the ice-cream man's entire retirement fund. Gray had chosen a mix of of mint-choc-chip and coffee.
"Don't worry. I'm freezing everyone's fridges solid for this." Gray said. Rogue chuckled, and Gray realized he had dimples. He took another bit of his ice-cream instead of thinking about it.
"Please tell me that includes Sting and Yukino. I'll let you into their apartment." Rogue offered mischievously. Gray decided not to remind him that he could duplicate their keys with his magic.
"Tonight?" He asked instead. Rogue nodded.
When they had finished their ice-cream, they went back to the park, as Rogue had offered to show Gray around town. At the pond Rogue pointed out the different species of frogs that lived there, looking far more open and excited than Gray had ever seen him. Gray had never known frogs could be so fascinating, not that he remembered most of what Rogue told him.
Awkwardly, Rogue tried to move on from the pond, a little embarrassed at how he had babbled on about the frogs. The only person that liked frogs as much as he did was Frosch. He had trouble remembering that other people weren't as interested in them. How had Gray managed to get him to let his guard down? Not an hour ago, he had rather disliked Gray, even though he had understood that that dislike was unfounded. To change his mind so quickly...
"Hey, Gray?" Rogue asked hesitantly.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry for being a jerk before. You're actually pretty cool."
"Don't worry about it. I'm not always the most trustworthy either." He didn't want to fully admit that Rogue's worries weren't completly unfounded. Natsu had told him what had happened in the timeline Future Rogue had come from.
Rogue showed Gray around the city. It wasn't really a typical tour. Gray wasn't sure Rogue even knew what a typical tour was supposed to be like, but this was more fun anyway. The tour mostly consisted of Rogue showing Gray the places he thought were cool, like the shaded spot under a bridge, safe from the sun's rays, or the place where the roof of the Gazania University auditorium overlapped with the shadow of a tree, granting them a beautiful view of half the city while staying cool. There was also a bakery that made excellent tiramisu, and an abandoned church in the woods just outside of town. The stained glass windows cast beautiful lights on the stone floors, and they shifted as the breeze outside moved the leaves of the trees outside.
It was probably time they returned to Sabertooth, and though Rogue couldn't wait to see Frosch again, he was sad that his afternoon with Gray was over. But after his past behavior towards Gray, it wasn't like Rogue could just ask...
"Hey Rogue, I had fun, despite the whole trick thing. Do you want to do this again, when our idiot teammates aren't interfering?" Gray asked. Rogue felt his face heat up instantly and mumbled in agreement.
They entered the guildhall together.
"Hey guys! We found Frosch. She was with Minerva!" Sting said, his eye twitching like it usually did when he was hiding something. If he believed his years-long friendship with Rogue or Minerva's involvement would keep him safe from retribution, he had another thing coming. For now, Rogue let him think he'd gotten away with it.
"Frosch! Thank goodness you're safe!" Rogue didn't mention being worried, not wanting Frosch to feel guilty. Gray walked over to his team and smiled at Rogue. As they left, Gray mouthed 'See you at midnight'. Rogue wondered what it would take to get Gray to add Minerva to the revenge list.
