Una Mostra Collettiva Internazionale condivisa in due gallerie a cura di Sandro Bongiani e Ruggero Maggi con la partecipazione di 137 artisti e 357 opere per il decennale dedicato a Shozo Shimamoto 2013-2023

Sandro Bongiani Arte Contemporanea di Salerno è lieta di inaugurare presso la galleria Sandro Bongiani Vrspace e nello Spazio Ophen Virtual Art Gallery la mostra collettiva internazionale dal titolo: “Memorial Shozo Shimamoto 2013-2023”. Un progetto e una mostra indipendente, a cura di Sandro Bongiani e Ruggero Maggi. A distanza di 10 anni dalla dipartita di Shozo Shimamoto (25 gennaio 2013), viene organizzata in Italia una mostra collettiva internazionale con la partecipazione di 137 artisti internazionali per il primo decennale della sua scomparsa. Una parte del lavoro svolto dall’artista giapponese risulta ancora poco noto al grande pubblico, e precisamente la ricerca svolta negli anni 80 e 90, con le particolari azioni e le proiezioni di spezzoni di film sulla sua testa rasata utilizzata come spazio performativo e luogo per ospitare l’opera. Quasi una galleria del corpo e forse “la più piccola galleria al mondo attiva negli anni 80”. Per ricordarlo a dieci anni esatti dalla scomparsa abbiamo ritenuto utile inviare per posta alcune silhouette della testa vista da dietro di Shozo Shimamoto invitando gli artisti a fare il loro intervento, come aveva fatto lui a partire dal 1987 invitando gli artisti a realizzare il proprio personale atto performativo con ciò che ritenevano utile per completare degnamente l’opera. Achille Cavellini, Mayumi Handa, Allan Kaprow e da diversi altri protagonisti internazionali dell’arte che sono intervenuti nel tempo sulla testa dell’artista giapponese disegnando, incollando carte, adesivi, materiali diversi e persino proiettando frammenti di film percepiti come flusso immateriale perfettamente in linea con le idee di ricerca portate avanti dal grande artista giapponese pronto a ricevere in se l’apporto comunicativo di altri autori.

Un progetto - scrive Sandro Bongiani - in cui la collaborazione diventa il momento prioritario dell’agire con le idee che si integrano in un insieme unitario e collettivo. Bongiani definisce "Swarm Art", in cui il comportamento collettivo interagisce in modo collaborativo producendo risposte funzionali al sistema comunicativo, come avviene concretamente nel web utilizzando le migliaia di relazioni ramificate nel Network, o come realmente succede nel complesso intreccio di cellule relazionali attive presenti nel sistema cerebrale umano che si integrano tra loro aggregandosi per poi trasformarsi provvisoriamente in un insieme inaspettato e assai complesso capace di ridarci la dimensione vera della relazione collettiva”. Del resto, noi non siamo altro che piccole parti di un unico sistema relazionale che può condividere l’isolamento oppure, estendersi come essenza amplificata in una infinita e assai complessa comunicazione di idee.

Nasce nel 1928 a Osaka (Giappone). Diviene un autorevole esponente del Gruppo Gutai, formato nel 1954 nella regione del Kansai, insieme ad altre figure note come Yoshihara Jiro, Kanayama Akira, Murakami Saburo, Sshiraga Kazuo: le attività del gruppo hanno anticipato i grandi cambiamenti dell'arte occidentale dei primi anni sessanta. Una grande piramide al centro della piazza che ospita il Palazzo della Regione Lombardia. Un oggetto 'unico' che, al termine della Design Week, sarà utilizzato come copertura dell'Osservatorio 'EVK2CNR' situato alla base dell'Everest. Un'installazione di design eccezionale, realizzata in acciaio e tessuto tecnologico da aziende lombarde, al cui interno si potrà vivere una speciale experience che coniuga design, tecnologia e sostenibilità. È solo una delle proposte che la Regione offrirà, in occasione della Design Week, da lunedì 15 a domenica 21 aprile, "un ricco palinsesto di iniziative ed eventi di particolare attrazione e interesse" spiegano il presidente della Regione Lombardia, Attilio Fontana, e l'assessore con delega al Design, Barbara Mazzali. Prevista anche la presenza di diversi oggetti di design, di importanti aziende lombarde, oltre che la possibilità di dotarsi di oculus per entrare in una realtà immersiva sui ghiacciai. "Shaped by Design" by D.O.S. (Design Open Spaces) Piazza Città di Lombardia ospiterà inoltre 'Oasisquare. History of Forgotten Landscapes': un invito alla riflessione sul rapporto tra umanità e natura attraverso installazioni che esplorano l'impatto umano sull'ambiente. Vengono presentate 6 mostre Retrospettive in coincidenza con il tema “Stranieri Ovunque”e in contemporanea con la 60. Biennale Internazionale di Venezia 2024

La Galleria Sandro Bongiani Arte Contemporanea è lieta di inaugurare in coincidenza con il tema “Stranieri Ovunque”e in contemporanea con la 60. Biennale Internazionale di Venezia 2024, presso il Pavilion Lautania Valley a cura di Sandro Bongiani le mostre retrospettive di 6 artisti selezionati per questo particolare evento che inizia ufficialmente il 16 aprile con l’artista americano pre-pop Ray Johnson e proseguirà di mese in mese fino al 24 novembre 2024 con Guglielmo Achille Cavellini, Ryosuke Cohen, Reid Wood e infine con gli italiani Gabi Minedi e Raffaele Boemio presentando per ognuno artista significative opere scelte appositamente per questo particolare evento a loro dedicato. Dopo la mostra del progetto internazionale dal titolo “LiberaMente / Is Contemporary Art a Prison?” a cura di Sandro Bongiani, presentato ufficialmente il 2 ottobre 2023 presso la Galleria Sandro Bongiani Vrspace ecco una serie di altri importanti appuntamenti sul tema dello straniero ovunque, ovvero “Stranieri Qui e Altrove - Foreigners Here And Elsewhere”, in cui viene segnalata la condizione di diversi artisti marginali attivi che in modo originale e solitario hanno continuato a lavorare nell’isolamento collettivo, alcuni anche per diversi decenni non curandosi minimamente del mercato e del sistema ufficiale dell’arte producendo nel tempo opere per certi versi non conformi ai dettami imposti dal mercato e proseguendo in un cosciente viaggio solitario e personale. Saranno presentati, inoltre, dal 16 aprile fino al 24 novembre 2024 presso il Pavilion Lautania Valley le retrospettive di sei artisti contemporanei: Ray Johnson / da martedì 16 aprile a giovedì 23 maggio 2024, Guglielmo Achille Cavellini / da venerdì 24 maggio a martedì 2 luglio, 2024, Ryosuke Cohen / dal 3 luglio a sabato 10 agosto 2024 Reid Wood / da domenica 11 agosto a sabato 14 settembre 2024, Gabi Minedi / da domenica 15 settembre a venerdì 19 ottobre 2024 e infine Raffaele Boemio / da sabato 20 ottobre a sabato 24 novembre 2024. Ad un tema generico scelto da questa biennale abbiamo preferito segnalare la condizione difficile e marginale attiva di 6 artisti di diverse generazioni e latitudini del mondo costretti a vivere da “straniero sempre”, non semplicemente nel senso geografico del termine ma soprattutto umano e esistenziale. Ecco una sorta di convinta rilettura delle proposte in atto presentati per l’occorrenza in un padiglione del tutto virtuale, con un’area immaginaria di 3 sale presso il Pavilion Lautania Valley in cui sono stati coinvolti 6 artisti in altrettanti mostre retrospettive in un lucido e suggestivo percorso, ognuno con la propria specifica personalità e intensità creativa per una condivisione globale via web a 360 gradi in tutto il mondo a basso contenuto di emissioni CO2.

Quella di Ray Johnson da autentico “stranger” rimane una proposta decisamente ai margini del sistema dell’arte ufficiale e diffusa ad ampio raggio, grazie alla capillarità del mezzo postale in diversi paesi del mondo. Per lungo tempo è stato considerato dalla critica negli anni 60’ per essere “il più famoso artista sconosciuto di New York” e un pioniere della performance nell'uso della lingua scritta nell'arte visuale. Una ricerca che accoglie persino frammenti di oggetti di vita. Ray è stato un assiduo raccoglitore di cose “trovate e recuperate” per essere rimesse nel circuito della comunicazione e nell’arte restituendo a loro una nuova vita. Le associazioni delle cose e i processiin cui accadono realmente erano alla base della comunicazione visiva, una sorta d’indagine intesa come un “work in progress” assolutamente del tutto provvisorio, che non può avere mai una definitiva conclusione.

Una pratica per certi versi trasversale e nel contempo deviante e poco credibile agli occhi del sistema dell’arte ufficiale, basata essenzialmente sulla contaminazione tra i diversi strumenti espressivi: collage, fotografia, oggetti recuperati, disegno, performance, happening e testi scritti, utilizzando frequentemente il gioco oscuro delle parole con unasorta di operazione, in cui “i giochi di parole non sono solo un fatto ludico” fine a se stesso,ma un’altra diversa possibilità di liberarsi dalle costrizioni e dagli impedimenti e affidarsi all’invenzione e alla creatività della parola, avvalorata anche dalle collaborazioni attraverso l’invio postale.

Johnson ha sempre preferito lavorare su piccoli formati, precludendo così l’appoggio del grande mercato dell’arte ufficiale, rifiutando spesso di esporre o vendere il proprio lavoro. Del resto, il mercato dell’arte preferisce le grandi dimensioni e una produzione creata appositamente per essere “mercificata” in senso commerciale. Si direbbe, una ricerca del tutto “trasversale” rispetto alle proposte svolte in quel periodo da altri autori, che accoglie diversi mezzi espressivi con interventi che di fatto hanno creato attrito come del resto ha fatto, quasi nello stesso periodo, anche Guglielmo Achille Cavellini in Italia utilizzando la scrittura, il comportamento, la concettualità e persino l'ironia ben sapendo che questa era l’unica strada possibile da percorrere. Secondo lui l’arte è vita, uno scambio fra individui, una compenetrazione di idee, e un nuovo modo di pensare in un processo decisamente fluido e in evoluzione che si rivela in modo puntuale esaminando gli scritti e le azioni performative “Zen Nothings” svolte dall’artista americano. Oggi a distanza di 27 anni dalla morte il suo lavoro sperimentale dagli anni 60’ in poi è considerato dalla critica parte integrante del movimento Fluxus e persino originale anticipatore della Pop Art americana di Leo Castelli.

Ray Johnson (1927-1995)

Nato il 16 ottobre 1927 a Detroit, nel Michigan, i suoi primi anni di vita comprendevano lezioni sporadiche al Detroit Art Institute e un'estate alla Ox-Bow School di Saugatuck, nel Michigan. Nel 1945, Johnson lasciò Detroit per frequentare il progressivo Black Mountain College in North Carolina. Durante i suoi tre anni nel programma, ha studiato con un certo numero di artisti, tra cui Josef Albers, Jacob Lawrence, John Cage e Willem de Kooning. Trasferitosi a New York nel 1949, Johnson stringe amicizia tra Robert Rauschenberg e Jasper Johns, sviluppando una forma idiosincratica di Pop Art. Nei decenni successivi, Johnson divenne sempre più impegnato in performance e filosofia Zen, fondendo assieme la pratica artistica con la vita. Il 13 gennaio 1995 Johnson si suicidò, gettandosi da un ponte a Sag Harbor, New York, poi nuotando in mare e annegando. Nel 2002, un documentario sulla vita dell'artista chiamato How to Draw a Bunny, ci fa capire il suo lavoro di ricerca. Oggi, le sue opere si trovano nelle collezioni della National Gallery of Art di Washington, D.C., del Museum of Modern Art di New York, del Walker Art Center di Minneapolis e del Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
