sometimes its kind of upsetting to see like anti dsmp/anti mcyt stuff because i think its very easy for people to look at creators that get popular with bad rep and just like completely dehumanize them. do i think the creators make oversights and are often assholes? yeah. especially dream and god fucking knows i think schlatt is awful because he knows what hes doing and *doesnt care* but like. shitty people are people. ignoring that they should still be treated as people you dont actually know is just kinda fucked up

sometimes i see posts and i go "yep. fair assessment but also please just focus on what makes you happy instead of this. they dont care about you they dont care about your opinion" because of course theres going to be genuinely good assessments about how the popularity has inflated dreams ego or how people who are overly positive and protective about/of ccs that fuck up w/o apology are fucked up themselves.

and then sometimes i see people genuinely pissed off that tommy only recently learned about conversion therapy or that dsmp is popular or that theres a lot of white people involved w/e w/e and im just like.. you getting mad about popular people and the people who like the content they create isnt going to solve any problems. its not. youre just putting yourself in a negative feedback loop, over and over, getting more and more purist about what people can or cant consume and its. exhausting

its especially exhausting when it comes from people who are *also* into content with gross creators and even content thats really fucked up itself! like! they all suck!! homestuck is a bunch of poorly handled racism metaphors with shittons of ableism and a creator thats just fucking horrible and a fanbase thats annoying as hell, *that was once The Annoying Fandom* with the same exact energy of dsmp now. your favorite white cis man isnt better than ours, jse and mark are active friends with pdp which is way worse than tommy and dream having small collabs with him! your favorite popular anime most likely has a shitton of ableism and racism and misogyny, where do i even fuckin begin with stuff like slashers and even the gross shit you can find in *kids shows* like mlp (which literally has racism and cultural appropriation in every corner)!

in the end everything is fucking terrible so turn on your brain and focus on what makes you happy and turn your anger towards the fact that theres real life people fucking dying so who *gives* a shit if some popular white boy isnt handling his platform correctly. fucking no one does, have you *seen* the music industry? just stop wasting your energy getting mad about white boys and generalizing an entire community with creators and fans of color, women, lgbtq+ people, disabled people, etc etc as a bunch of cishet crackers all because dream schlatt and tommy are. i promise you life gets a lot easier when you remember this is just another piece of media that happened to get popular and controversial because turns out: the world sucks. go get some junk food and have a picnic in your front yard and feed birds or some shit idk. curate your own experience instead of shitting on others

like. at this point it all just feels so performative. you care about the people that these creators have hurt? okay, go support those people then. be a better person than the creator is if you hate them so much
