ok lol but the thing is I ship elmax in a strictly fanon way for fun in my own enclosure, I'm in no way insisting that that's reality, or that the whole entire show is actually about that, or debating/insulting/harassing people to that effect (which is partly what that post was about). the thing about me is I keep heavily compartmentalized sets of Actual vs Just For Fun takes on st and they don't mix when it's time for me to write serious analysis or discuss the actual plot.

elmax the ship is a fun dynamic to think about, but it will not and should not happen in actual canon for several reasons. elmax the duo is super important in reality though, so I do hope they log some quality time in 5.

What would you rewrite about stranger things on seasons 3 and 4?

interesting question! guaranteed 5 will recontextualize some past stuff, so it's possible some things that aren't so great IMO are actually just because the story is still unfinished. that's often what happens with things I've complained about after a new season drops. but as it stands now:

everyone seems to have beef with 3, but I liked it a lot (definitely in a different way than 1 and 2 though). my main complaint with it, and 4, is the total change in Joyce. 1-2 Joyce is probably in my top 3 characters and 3-4 Joyce barely makes the list. I realize she deserves a life outside of her kids, but her love for her kids is why we fell in love with her. relegating her to a comic relief / icky romantic arc at the total expense of interaction with her kids is a waste of Winona Ryder.

it's the first season so far where Will isn't in acute crisis, but her firstborn child is also right there and had to execute his possessed boss with a pair of scissors after being beaten half to death, maybe he could use some support as well. but shh the magnets are being funny. (yes ik parentifying Jonathan is part of her character, she isn't a perfect mom but she loves him too, can we see it please?)

and I know this show has telekinesis and monsters on it, but Joyce infiltrating an ultra security secret military base and passing as a male Russian solder simply by not speaking was. c'mon. (I'm sure that's there to deliver some themes or parallels if I think about it longer but. on the surface. silly.)

s4: I wish we'd spent more of the El-without-powers time exploring what her actual personality is in ways not directly related to her relationship or powers/heroism/lab plot. again though, that's very much what's going on with her character, and she does have deep foundational traumas she needed to address before anything else. probably I was just eager in 4 for what she isn't ready for until 5.

to combine those two issues, one thing I NEEDED from s4 was a good Joyce/El scene. doesn't have to be something deeply emotional. just a lowkey moment with the two of them, and El getting some mothering. can't believe El literally lived as family with Joyce and all we got was 20 seconds of her angrily eating risotto.

there's a post floating around that said it would've been compelling if El actually liked California and had to choose between her new and old life. I think that's a very interesting idea. the school bullying stuff honestly fell a bit flat for me (important parallels aside) and I'm not sure how to articulate why.

and although I've come to understand the Hopper Russia arc has important themes to deliver as well, it's still on thin ice. I would cut it way down.

I'm sure there's more but yeah it'll be interesting to see how my opinions will change after I've digested 5 and the completed story!

Do you have any recs for some good Max, El, lumax or elmax blogs?

I haven't been here too long and I don't follow that many people so really I'd like to see the answer to this question myself! It's so hard to find elmax on here because people will have a blog name like ALLELMAX24/7 and then you look and all they post is steddie or something. everybody loves lumax and yet there isn't a lot of lumax centric content or blogs, and el blogs are often m*leven blogs. honestly the best discussion on those ships I find is actually among either byler blogs who minor in elmax/lumax or elumaxers who sorta ship them all interchangeably.

what's your honest thoughts on hopper? personally, I think he's an interesting character but I just can't make myself like him after what he said to el in their fight in s2 and how he treated joyce in s3

Yeah I've been on an anti-hopper kick lately lol. there's stuff I enjoy about him but I don't Love Him because I find it really hard to get past both of those things you mentioned. he was a dick to Joyce throughout 3 but even worse imo is the way he treated El, because she's a kid, and a horrifically abused one, and he's her only lifeline in the world. anyone having even 1% an idea of her background should know that there are certain things you absolutely cannot say to her, and he said probably the worst one, and then barely ever apologized for it. I would expect for her trust to be way more shaken by that. I feel like the colossal ptsd and trust issues El would have are glossed over in the interest of time. anyway I was fine with hopper being dead in all honesty

I loved getting to see El getting to have a female friendship and do regular kid stuff, I never thought about shipping them and I wasn't following st online so I didn't know anyone did either. and I know the sleepover scene is a universal favorite elmax moment, but the way I adore that scene is still not in a shippy way. after a childhood like hers just imagine how it must feel to El to feel cozy and cared for and fall asleep next to someone like that. oh no my emotions

I came on here to find your blog (& funny enough, that last anon talking about the timeline theories was top of my dash) cause while scanning season 2 for gif editing purposes, I saw max getting on her skateboard with bright green shoes and her red jacket, and your theories instantly sprang back into mind. For funsies, I scrubbed ahead to where I knew she would be wearing her GREEN jacket, and sure enough, red shoes. (The ones we're so used to seeing her in for the rest of the series) Both jackets, both shoes, nearly identical, just perfectly color swapped. Gotta admit, I still don't know where I stand on this theory, nor do I even know about it all that much, but that is indeed, a ✨️bit weird✨️ Sorry btw if this is common knowledge for this theory and I'm just way late to the party, but I guess I just got a little excited lol

Is it possible that Kali was moved to a different facility?

Picture this:

- she wakes up in the lab (kinda trippy how it seems kind of different, huh?)

- it's closer to the city she currently lives in, she's been knocked out for two days to get there. She is not informed of this.

- why are they all missing??

I know this doesn't account for whether she thought El ran away slash got killed, but it would still be fucked up enough for her to want to escape. Plus it's not like she could train for telekinesis or electromanipulation with the other in group training anyways.
