November 30 - Day 5 Strange
Hearing the Call was always one of the most unnerving things. Her whole body stilled as Eyir plucked at the thread that connected them, and the summons resonated throughout her whole being.
Ash laughed raucously and splashed in the bath within reach, but for a moment she couldn’t move — frozen in place.
It released her as quick as it had washed over, and Lyn bit her tongue before she could swear.
‘Champion, to me with haste!’
“Mama, do you know where my boat is?”
She was going to have a headache later. Ash was passed his boat as she plucked that thread right back, ‘My son is in the bath, the shieldmaidens will get to you faster. What’s wrong?’
‘A Dragon is here for Odyn, we must-’
Lyn couldn’t help the laugh that tore from her mouth, ‘You’d be better off letting the Dragon have him.’
Ash stared up at her, perplexed, “Mama?”
She shook her head and glanced back down at him; it must have seemed strange, the way she was staring off at nothing. He couldn’t hear the Keeper trying to summon her, after all.
‘...All is well.’
Lyn reached down and flicked some of the water back at her son with a bright smile, “What are the pirates up to today, then?”
Reassured, and with focus back again, he slammed the carved boat down into the water and prepared to launch into his rambling tale.

November DWC Day 6 - Expectation
Tumblr media
It had been some time since Rhys had socialized with any of his fellow Tarts. There were a lot of new faces he had never met, who no doubt had no idea he was a ‘behind the scenes’ member of the troupe. He picked things up and put things down, and helped to build various props and set pieces for the performers. It was a rare occasion to find him helping at any events due to his rigorous work schedule on the farm, but he was well overdue for some socializing and Dicenne’s Harvest Celebration was just the event for it.
There was a moment prior to his arrival where he almost turned around and left, worried that he wouldn’t fit in or that there would be too many questions about Aurelia. While on paper she was the daughter of the family he worked for, the Padleys, in reality she was Mrs. Padley and Rhys’s own daughter. It was quite the scandal among the farms in Elwynn Forest, but the more he learned of the local drama, the more he realized this was quite typical. Apparently attractive, young farmhands often found themselves the target of the wives of Elwynn Forest.
The squeeze from the small hand held within his own gave him the courage he needed to keep going, and he was glad for it. Everyone was so welcoming and had no expectations, and while some may have raised their eyebrows regarding him having a daughter, it wasn’t because they were being judgmental, but only because they had no idea in the first place. She was quickly accepted into the Tart family and made fast friends with Lynesse’s similarly-aged son, Ash.
After dinner, the two sat together in a nearby grassy area where Aurelia introduced Ash to a local bunny family by name that she had just met, while Ash made the grass grow longer for their new furry friends to munch on simply by asking it politely to do so. Everyone had found it endearing, but also quite intriguing since the duo clearly displayed some serious prowess in magic.
This was the first time that others had questioned his daughter’s skills, wondering if she was able to commune and understand all animals. Is that what she was doing? Is that what he had been doing? He always felt a kinship with the farm animals that he took care of, often finding them easier to ‘understand’ than most people. Not to mention they usually did what he asked of them. Was that magic? He just had assumed he was always good with animals and had passed that compassion down to Lia. She had a tendency to attract animals of all varieties, and Rhys had never feared them bringing harm to her.
Maybe he wasn’t as completely useless as he had felt for so much of his life. The orphan boy who couldn’t even speak until the age of ten, was never adopted, failed most of his studies; he never had much confidence in himself and could do nothing right. Until now. He did at least one thing right, and she was perfect.

FINE. SPILL THE TEA. How's he been feeling about Lyn lately?
Tumblr media
Friendly, mostly. Things never really ever got back to how they were before ~that~, which is kind of a shame because he does miss those times and how close they were, she was probably one of his best friends at the time - not to mention she was always so great with Kara too.
Now it's just...different. Not bad, but the feelings are gone. Thankfully, the bad feelings are pretty much gone too. The best is gone from the friend, but she's still someone he would consider a friend for sure. Maybe with time they'll get back there! He does enjoy it when she and Ash come over!

February Daily Writing Challenge Day 3 - Consequence
Tumblr media
Going along with this storyline: Prologue -> Here Fio Day 1 -> Here Xylaes Day 1 -> Here Pyraelia Day 1 -> Here
Tumblr media
"Hey. Weird question. Do you have some time this week to come out to an Estate in Quel'thalas and get rid of a soul that's taken up shop in the body of the noblewoman that lives here? Hers is elsewhere at the moment, but I think this other one probably has to be out before the other one can go back in? No rush. I've got plenty of sedatives. Lmk."
The ridiculing snort-laugh that came out of Red’s mouth when he was shown the comm message from Lynesse made Taric smirk. Yes, he was well aware how this sounded. No, this was not his first time, nor Red’s first time,  in dealing with a wealthy person's body being inhabited by another soul - most likely brought on by said wealthy person’s desire to mess with cursed objects or locations. They weren’t exactly known for considering the consequences of their actions. He didn’t know the specifics yet, but a lot of assumptions could be made.
It wasn’t widespread knowledge, but those closer to Taric or Red would know that they have connections to the spirit world. A trait that runs in the male side of the Darkmorn family; being able to see and speak with spirits was the surface level trait, and the simplest explanation that would be given to anyone wanting details. But it went much deeper than that. They could traverse through the veil with ease, allow themselves to become possessed, trap souls, free souls…destroy souls, and more.
Taric had been ‘lucky’ enough to inherit the generation-skipping trait that gifted him sectoral heterochromia, causing his right eye to be half blue, half golden. ‘Half-in, half-out’ as he would describe it, being able to see whatever was beyond the veil and into the real world at the same time. Two planes of existence stacked atop each other. Not understanding what was happening as a child made for an extremely difficult time growing up, but now that he was older, this was simply his norm.
“So what do you think? I’m heading over today and you’re welcome to join. But uhh..this is more your wheelhouse.” The forcible removal of a foreign soul from a body, that is. Taric could do it, but Red was more experienced and much more apathetic about the souls and the people from which they would be removed.
“Is it anyone we know?” ‘Noblewoman’ meant money, but it also meant secrecy and having easy blackmail to hold over someone’s head should the need arise.
“I don’t know yet. I won’t be given an address until I’m on my way.” Taric was just as in the dark, although he was well aware that Red might be familiar with whomever it may be, given the older man’s own time spent as a noble within Quel’thalas decades ago. Especially if they were of an elder bloodline, like the Darkmorns themselves.
“Well I can’t let you go by yourself on your birthday, now can I?”
Taric blinked a few times. Huh. How time flies and skews when you’re out in ‘the field’. He hadn’t even realized that his birthday was approaching, and now it was suddenly here. “Right. I guess it just slipped my mind. So that’s a yes?”
“That’s a yes.”
At least this birthday would be interesting!

Please consider queueing reblogs, pretty pretty please! I want to enjoy this event, but it presently appears as a massive periodic dump (rarely possible to take the time to read all at once, even if in the mood) with long stretches of quiet in between. I really think queueing reblogs would boost engagement for writers doing the project as well as make this blog more enjoyable to follow.
Hey anon! Gloamingdawn/Saltsparkle here.
Thanks for reaching out with the suggestion. We’ll talk it over and see if that’s how the whole project team wants to move forward.
Right now the posting schedule is what it is because we know it works for us as a small team. If something like this will work better for us, we’ll make the change. If not, it will likely stay as is (sorry!).
We reblog all the participating stories to the DWC blog so they’re centrally located in order for people to access them on their own time in a way that works best for folks’ individual schedules. I’ve personally found that using the blog’s archive helps me not to miss a story.
We hope you’re able to continue to enjoy the writing challenge this week regardless of the outcome!

You are amethyst, a gorgeous purple stone that reflects your peaceful, serene personality. You are patient, kind and have a healing energy that makes others feel calm and at ease when around you. You may find that people tend to vent their problems, anger or frustrations to you quite often. This is precisely because you are such a great person to lean on in times of hardship.

After the Festival
Tumblr media
((Mentioned: @gloamingdawn, @valarin-sunstorm, @dicenne))
Normally the subtle rocking of the ship and the small crashes of the tide beckoning the creaking wooden frame would bring comfort. It meant he was home, even if home was always moving, reeked of cigarette smoke, and involved sleeping in the most uncomfortable hammock ever. Lately it was feeling different, though. Iestyn had made friends ashore, however dubious the word ‘friend’ was to in his vernacular. “People he liked being around” would be a more accurate term.
He had attended Owl Fest, a two-day long art and music fair hosted by familiar faces. It was a risk to go at all, he knew that. He knew she would be there. Still, he didn’t want to miss everything. They meant more to him than that. Or, no, it wasn’t that they meant anything to him. It was that he thought it would be fun. He had nothing better to do that day, anyways… He shook his head, looking out the porthole beside his hammock. He could stop visiting altogether if it came to that. It wouldn’t bother him any. He rolled over.
Laraeline had been there. It was the first time he had seen her since that awkward encounter. Best to pretend none of that ever happened, wasn’t it? Iestyn made plenty of mistakes in who to trust before. He just had to stop getting ahead of himself. Either way, getting her covered in glitter was a great way to break the tension, even if it came with… consequences. The thief’s jacket sparkled every time one of the damned flecks caught the sunlight, even days later.
Speaking of such, Iestyn had a growing feeling that Lynesse was considerably less amused by his shenanigans than others. There were a few hints here and there: her reluctance to accept the hit he had put on Laraeline until knowing the full story (where was the fun in that?) and the downright exuberance she displayed in burying him in glitter (above and beyond the call of duty. She had even glittered him once as an “example” without being paid!) Still, Iestyn supposed for the times Em wasn’t around it was good to have someone keeping him in check. Light knew what trouble he could get into with no one acting as his conscience. He laughed to himself.
He couldn’t really hold anything against Lyn, he definitely deserved the punishment he got twenty times over. Besides, he would do about anything for a laugh and it amused the hell out of Valarin. It was nice to see the lad again, too. Their last encounter ended Iestyn with a concussion, and… he had said something to upset him. Couldn’t rightly remember what it was at this point, but he realized the priest had something haunting him, just like he did. The thought upset him more than it should, really, at least Iestyn deserved his nightmares. Val deserved peace. In lieu of that, he could give him a few laughs here and there.
Iestyn wondered if it was obvious to Dicenne that he was missing his performances on purpose. He was, what, four for four now? His absence was becoming noticeable, it seemed. People were starting to come up to the thief and describe what he had missed out on or even brag about being there when he wasn’t. He ran a hand through his hair, looking towards the ceiling of the cabin, now. The performer had been busy on his comm again, talking to his sister throughout the festival. Maybe he should just talk to him. If anyone would understand—
He laughed. Good one. Why would the thief tell anyone anything? The more people knew about him, the more they could use it against him. He had far too many enemies for that.
If he was smart, he’d cut ties now. For all he knew, he could have bumped into her again. Last time was… far too close for comfort. She needed to be safe, and that meant he had to stay as far away as possible.

August 26 - Day 7  Growth
“Mama! Measure me!” Ash squealed and went running down the hallway with one of his wax coloring sticks held high above his head, triumphantly.
In her mind, years ago, when she started this Lyn figured they would do it every six months or so — which had held for a while, up until her son had started to understand the concept of his own growth.
There had been a couple of weeks where he’d wanted to stand up against the door jamb every day. And then he had one of the mint plants that had been rapidly growing that he wanted to measure. Followed by a sage shrub. And a lavender bush in a small pot. She hadn’t wanted to stifle his curiosity, and the plants at least did visibly get taller as she charted them on the other side — something that thrilled Ash to no end.
But today it was just him, and it had been a couple of weeks.
She sighed out a quiet, content laugh as she dusted the flour off her hands and grabbed an actual pen before following, knowing the wax wouldn’t last, “Alright, alright.”
The four year old elfling bounced happily in place, too much excitement to contain in his small body as Lyn did her best to adjust him, “You’re going to have to stand still, you know, if we want this to be perfect.”
That stilled him for a moment while she drew a line right at the top of his head.
“Ears too Mama!”
She marked another line just at the tip of one of his ears, too, and wrote a date by both.
He turned around and looked, the lines a bit higher than they had been previously, and laughed with delight, “I’m bigger!”
She smiled down at him, her little boy who still felt like he’d just been her little baby days ago. Sometimes it was funny how fast time passed.

February 23 - Day 5 Ambition/Relentless
Going with this storyline: Prologue -> Here Fio Day 1 -> Here Xylaes Day 1 -> Here Pyraelia Day 2 -> Here Taric Day 3 -> Here Lynesse Day 3 -> Here Sheizara Day 4 -> Here Red Day 5 -> Here
They had trapped Theirastra in her last soulstone. Her final “just in case”, the back up plan, a piece that was meant to be a saving grace.
Fiorenze so badly wanted to smash it and destroy what was left of the Highborne soul that had betrayed her, but that would also be it. No more second chances. That small piece of her soul that she had fragmented off over half a decade ago would rejoin the whole, and she would be truly mortal.
The price of her ambition had been to lose everything. It stung.
She wanted to vomit, and not because of the vertigo of being back in a body after days trapped outside it.
It was hard to recount the passing of the last many hours; Pyraelia had, at some point, warned her about a spell she was going to cast. Xylaes had been a constant companion near the mirror while she’d been trapped, but gone as soon as it became clear that she was safe again. The two contractors hadn't stuck around long either, enough to make sure she was back to rights and then to get paid.
Doctor Gloamingdawn had done a couple of checks and cleaned a deep scratch on her forearm before relaying something quietly to Keranna before leaving herself. Keranna had set the soulstone, pried out of the pretty ring setting it had been housed in, on the side table next to the bed with a hammer and exited the room after tersely giving her the instruction to destroy it.
Everyone had gone, and she was alone.
The pervasive, painful throbbing in her body was relentless as she sat up and took the hammer in hand. The brain fog was hard to muddle through and caused distraction — what was she doing again? Why was she here? Purpose slipped through motive like sand between her fingers until her eyes caught the soulstone glimmering on the nightstand again.
She would be alone until it was destroyed.
That was the price — or the incentive.
Her stomach heaved, empty. This body hadn’t eaten in days, but she wasn’t hungry. Anxiety clawed at her. She didn’t want to be alone.
A deep, uncontrolled sob wracked her frame as she lifted the hammer up, and the tears rolled freely as she brought it down and shattered the cursed thing. Green glass turned to powder with a quiet, whispered shriek.
Theirastra was destroyed, but even as the fragment of her own missing soul returned she realized that she certainly didn’t feel whole.

"Our interactions are rarely long, polite greetings in Elysian Hold before going our separate ways to attend the needs of our allies, but she has an aura about her that tells me she is a true sister-in-arms. She bears confidence free from hubris, an ideal to which all paladins can aspire. I have never before met someone with such inherent poise and dignity, and were times less hectic I would be glad to get to know her better."

What Kind of Liar Are You?
Tagged By: @irrfahrer - thank you!
Safrona's Results: Omission
You believe, in the end, that you were always telling the truth. Because of course you would never actually lie, would you? You aren't creating any stories out of thin air, simply deciding to take some facts out of your story. In the end, you want the best for everyone, and if you have to slip from the light, so be it. Shying away from the truth wouldn't hurt anyone, after all.
