Greymarrow is one of the best wizards hands down. After holding a sword meant to free trapped souls in his hand for less than a minute he not only figured out how to do it himself but also crafted a spell that dose the opposite effect on to of alowing him to rip you soul out of your body if he gets his hands on you for a few seconds.
I compared him to the Dr. Facilier of the Sea of Thieves for a reason - the guy is a magical genius extraordinaire. Obviously he's not that great at physical combat, but he more than makes up for it with crazy magic usage and a knowledge of the Sea of Thieves that allows him to dance circles around everyone for his own amusement. (Which he does, enthusiastically.)
And unlike the Shadow Man of Disney Princess and the Frog fame, he doesn't get caught in his own traps. And that makes him infinitely more dangerous.

More Edelstance
"I do. I've always been told that inheriting the Crest of Macuil was a blessing bestowed by the Goddess Herself.” The Crest of Noa as well. Her parents had insisted that they had a duty to the Saint whose blood they shared to preserve both her power and her secret. That was why she and her brother must do the unthinkable when they were of age. It was all for the greater good, they had insisted. That had turned her stomach, but she must believe that there was truth in the sermons. Her power was a gift that no backstabbing duke could take away. "And a responsibility. I know that some nobles are terrible, but it's because they misuse blessings."
"It's more than misuse." The kettle screeched. "Crests are no more a blessing than height or running quickly. They give us strength or magical power and allow us to use mighty weapons, but those have nothing to do with leading an army or administering a territory. And we pretend it gives us a divine right to rule. And when men think the Goddess chose them, they become monsters. They...violate others. Even the good nobles turn a blind eye. So nothing changes. And the victims would rather die for a glimmer of freedom.”
Edelgard blushed. “I've said too much. Your tea.”
Constance watched her poor the cups. She ought to let this go. Demeaning Crests was near to heresy. But Edelgard's eyes were aflame. She had always seemed so controlled, a rarefied Princess far above Constance or anyone else. This girl was vital, the energy pouring off her like a waterfall. Edelgard was the antidote and inverse of Solon and his darkness. She would bask in the light even if it meant entertaining ideas the monks would frown upon.
"No, you haven't," she said. "Someone should do something about those who abuse their privilege." Those who had turned their backs on her because of petty political squabbles. "But what can be done? Not let Solon run wild. He's worse than all of them."
"He's a monster doing what monsters do. Blame the people who let him do it." Her voice was cold, dangerous. "And what I intend to do is dismantle the whole noble system. Let people prove that they are wise and kind enough to rule. It won't matter if they have a Crest or not. It won't matter whether they were a peasant. Everyone will rise and fall by their own merits."
Constance paled. She was talking about upending Adrestia as it had stood for a thousand years. It would destroy Aegir's power base. He would find a way to make Edelgard even more of a puppet than her father. Which was almost enough to make Constance want to help her. To wipe that smile that smug grin from his face forevermore. Every noble would be forced to make the kind of breakthroughs she was striving toward. Yes, she could quite like this heresy.
What was she thinking? Terror must have turned her mind to mush. "The nobles would revolt. The Archpriest in Enbarr would ask Lady Rhea to place Adrestia under interdict.”
"And yet I must try. It's not only commoners who suffer. Even here, every other student has some pain related to their Crest. This worship of hideous strength makes us all rotten. Only the power to crush is respected and all weakness and infirmity is purged, with blood if need be." She sucked in a breath and her voice cracked. "My own family--”
Oh. Oh. Dark rumors had swirled around the Hresvelgs ever since the insurrection. The summer of 1175 had been the Plague Summer. The greymarrow, till then as terrible but rare as being struck by lightning, had seized Enbarr by the throat. A thousand had died, but nearly ten times that number had been crippled. They woke up one morning with a headache and the next they couldn't move their legs or worse. The healers could do nothing. Survivors were stacked in invalid homes or left to beg on the streets. Roger von Ochs had been disinherited and packed off to the country. An heir confined to their bed was no good. But it was House Hresvelg that had suffered the most. Ten of the children had died, leaving only the second youngest daughter who had only returned to Adrestia weeks before. She was truly blessed by the Goddess.
At least that was the story. Gossip had it that the other ten had been smothered because their illnesses had left them defective.
Like me.
No wonder Edelgard wanted to transform Adrestia.

A Ghostly character who saved trapped souls in skulls
and accidentally released Captain Flameheart
Sir Arthur Pendragon is the Captain of the Blackwyche, which is Shipwrecked at Shipwreck Bay.
Background[edit | edit source]
According to his journal, Pendragon was once a prince of an unknown kingdom. During his time in the Sea of Thieves, he was given the Sword of Souls by Madame Olivia and was considered the "Champion" of the Order of Souls. During one of his quests, Pendragon fought with Greymarrow who sealed Pendragon's soul in a painting on his ship, the Blackwyche.
The Seabound Soul[edit | edit source]
During The Seabound Soul Tall Tale, player Crews will find Pendragon released from a cursed painting of his likeness in the Captain's Quarters of his ship Blackwyche thanks to a certain Stranger who freed him with a Ritual. With his Sword of Souls and Enchanted Lantern, Pendragon offers the player the chance to retrace the steps and release the souls of three other cursed Captains: Captain Martha Jane, Captain Randal Stone and a third mystery Captain who was supposedly imprisoned on a Ship called the Ashen Dragon. The Tall Tale sees Player Crews doing just that by finding each of the Captain's Skulls imprisoning the cursed souls and releasing them.
Dialogue and Journals[edit | edit source]
The following is all the Journal Entries in his Tale Book and the dialogues Pendragon has with the Player Crews or the freed Captains during The Seabound Soul:

Fun fact! Greymarrow’s first name is Gideon!
Yep! No wonder he goes by Lord Graymarrow, "Gideon" probably got him some stares as a living pirate. (Now, everyone stares at him, but for different reasons.)

Pfff greymarrow be like “Evil self care!”
"Entertain yourself by watching an entire world suffer, it's very good for your mental health. Yours, not everyone else's. I would know, aye."

Greymarrow is one of the few who willingly became a skeleton. Everyone else was either cursed, killed or its a side effect of a power ritual. He became a skeleton to better be intune with magic mumbo jumbo
Definitely, and he acts like the dark mage that he is. Flameheart is pretty into dark magic now that he's been cursed (he's still considering trying to turn into a proper Ashen Lord with the crystals and all that) but Graymarrow is the original. And an absolutely terrible person to match.

Greymarrow probably sees or knows what’s going on. If anyone where to come to him for help understanding or fixing something he would make them beg, then just laugh in there face because he’s an asshole
"Hello?"
A pale green light - the ghost-light, the same as in the Air Temple and the color that man was - shone past him, unlike anything in that part of the Spirit World. Aang whirled to see a tall, lanky skeleton, long beard bound in a multi-forked pattern, clad in an ancient jacket. It was hard to tell, but they seemed to be leering menacingly.
What-
"They don't really know anything," the figure said, blue eye glowing eerily. "Pendragon, Slate, those Order fucks and the Pirate Lord himself... or they're just cowards and won't admit it. Funny that they'd turn out to be the kind of knaves Flameheart accused them-"
Who's Flameheart?
The guy with the sword mentioned a spectral flame-
"Is Flameheart the person that man warned me about?"
"Oh, of course."
That wasn't really an answer, or at least more of a question - but Aang persisted anyway. "Are you a friend of his? Or someone who knew him?"
I have to get back - the moon and ocean-
"Flameheart?" A clacking laugh - then the skeleton stared at him again, tingles of unease rapidly intensifying. "Oh, I won't ruin the fun of that one. But he has no idea what he's doing, has to meddle with the tools of true power to get anything done."
That was really cryptic-
"Can you tell-"
"No."
Aang met the skeleton's gaze - it did nothing except make him shiver, but after a few moments they spoke again. "It's only me and the woman who can fathom the true genesis of what's going on here with this little invasion stunt. And I'm not telling you, whelp." Another bony grin. "This gets boring."
Before the Avatar could say anything else, the ancient skeleton vanished in a puff of smoke and greenish mist, leaving that corner of the Spirit World just as it had been.

Fun fact! The only reason greymarrow was able to kill Slate was because Slate was far past his prime. Even so he fought for a long time and greymarrow only won through undead stamina. Eli was struck down because he no longer held the strength to wether the blows
Huh... you know, I didn't think of that. It does make sense though, as a boss Graymarrow is basically a bullet sponge with no really original moves (and he's slow) and as a character he's a scholar, not a fighter. So it makes sense that he wouldn't be too good at combat - at least not when he fought Eli Slate.
He's had plenty of time to practice, though - and keep in mind that this is Graymarrow, or Sea of Thieves' Dr. Facilier. He's got ways around not being too skilled at cutting people up with a sword.

How are you gonna go about greymarrow? He’s got one of the biggest knowledge and skill with magic in the SoT vers and even when he’s down he’s not out. In current lore he’s dead dead unlike the gold horder who is just a cockroach. But even dead greymarrow is clawing at the wall between worlds and has his fallowers conducting constant rituals to spring himself.
If I'm being completely honest, I'm working on the assumption that neither of those two (or Briggsy) are really dead. Skeleton Lords seem to be a bit more resistant to being killed than their lower brethren - they can get physically destroyed, but they tend to just come back in the end. Personally I think it's probably a situation like a proper DnD lich (which these guys basically are anyway) where their lifeforce is bound to something a bit stronger than just their skull, and they reform later if killed - stylish pirate outfits and all. Or stored somewhere else... maybe Belle would know something about that.
(And, as you'll see... the Sea of Thieves and the Sea of the Damned are... more than normal themselves. To go further would be fun, but a big spoiler.)
As for Graymarrow - he's the Dr. Facilier of the Sea of Thieves, bitter sickly loner in life turned rather sadistic and standoffish lich, and he acts like it. What's his plan? Who knows...
He also does a lot of laughing at Flameheart Senior, who has started to develop a god complex. As the old mage and scholar, Graymarrow has a much better idea of who's actually in charge - the only person who rivals his knowledge of the metaphysical is Belle, with even the Pirate Lord being rather ignorant as to some of the darker aspects of the Sea of Thieves.
